Windows destabilized after installing ipod

I'm having a strange problem since I installed my IPOD video 60GB. Within a couple minutes of installing the IPOD software (ITunes was installed a couple months ago), I got the blue screen of death, repeatedly. Even with my IPOD disconnected my computer became unusable, with spontaneous restarts and multiple blue screens. The screen says I have an unknown driver conflict and that Microsoft can't help me. Sometimes, my machine will run for 5 to 20 minutes and sometimes it won't even boot up, but it always ends in the blue screen of death. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks

After having Windows 2000 Professional trashed twice to the degree that I could not even boot into "Safe Mode" I have gotten my iPod Nano (iTunes, really) to work on my Dell Dimension XPS.
First, of course, I had rebuild the PC from the original back up disks (twice). Lost all of my installed software and everything in My Documents, etc. Needless to say, I have lost any warm and fuzzy for Apple.
I believe that the problem can be traced to the CD burning software originally included with the machine when it was shipped. In my case that was "EasyCD Creator" (version 4) from Adaptec.
I removed (uninstalled) everything that was associated with EasyCD (two programs, as I remember). Rebooted, and, for safe measure, I created an Emergency Repair Disk. I fortunately had a newer version of EasyCD (version 5, now labelled as from Roxio), and installed that. Got and installed the latest updates for it from the Roxio site.
Next I downloaded the latest iTunes from Apple, but did not install. Rebooted. Finally, I installed iTunes, but did not connect the Nano. Rebooted (yippee, it came back!) and started up iTunes. It loaded successfully. I then went about the business of connecting the Nano.
(If you do not have newer CD burning software, you could try to load iTunes after removing EasyCD 4, and worry about getting a replacement for EasyCD at some other time.)
My conclusion (from lots of digging and thinking) is that the CD burning software from Adaptec and the iTunes software can't co-exist.
Your PC, of course, may be configured differently and this may not work for you. Best of luck. What a journey it was.

Turning off the Protected Mode at Startup setting fixed the problem for me. Switched off all protected mode settings in Preferences exited Adobe Reader XI then restarted. Now I can successfully open files without the program crashing. I run the same versions of Adobe Reader and Norton Internet Security on Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems and the problem only occurred on Windows 7.

  • Can't burn blank CD after installing ipod software

Can't burn blank CD after installing ipod software - I have the system prefs set to launch Toast 6 when inserting a blank disk, and the drive just churns and then ejects the CD. It mounts and runs burned music and data disks with no problem.
My job requires me to burn data disks from pictures I take at work. Should I re-install Toast? The OS? I ran Disk Utility to check/fix permissions, and no change.

The CD that came with the nano won't have anything on it that you won't get with a full iTunes install. In fact, it may have been an OLDER version of the iTunes software than what you had installed before.
I'd reccomend downloading the latest version of iTunes from Apple and installing that to rule out software reversion issues.
If the problem still exists, try booting into toast before inserting the blank disk and see if Toast can still burn to the CD. If it can, then odds are you have to re-instruct your computer to boot toast when a blank CD is inserted. If it can't see the blank CD, or the Finder spits it out again, then I think you'd have to re-install Toast.

  • Windows fail to install IPOD

I got the IPOD installed on my laptop but want to install on my Sony computer running Windows. After software installed and reboot, I plug the IPOD into the 2.0 USB port...but the computer doesn't recognize the IPOD to install the necessary driver after the reboot. It is looking on the CD. Wonder if I can find the right spot to direct the computer to look for the drivers. is there any problem with the software being installed on two personal computers? It already works on older Dell Latitude laptop??

I had trouble installing my iPod software the very first night I got it. I believe it didn't install because I had my firewall & antivirus software enabled. This is just a suggestion, but maybe if you have these & have these enabled, you should disable them until you install the iPod software.

No matter what time I go on any program, after I am done doing whatever, internet, itunes, my documents, whatever, it always restarts. Whats going on? Also before I installed ipod, it would charge no problem. Now it only charges when updating files. Called tech support, no help at all. I have a 1.1 usb port. Please help. I am very disapointed. Also I have 30GB ipod.

i would recommend a usb 2 card they dont cost to much. this will more than likely be the cause of your problem

  • In XP Mode on Windows 7, after installing application as like I would normally on an actual XP system, application will not start in windows XP mode itself.

Just did a clean install of windows 7.  I then downloaded windows XP mode and Windows Virtual Mode.  Everything ran flawlessly and everything is updated.  I needed to Install a program called Dentrix 10.5 which can only be installed on Windows
XP for numerous reasons and one including it needing to use Microsoft .NET 1.0.  I installed this program on Windows XP Mode as I would as if I were installing it with a computer with windows XP.  The Install of the program went fine and completed.
Still being in Windows XP Mode I wanted to see how it would run.  I hit Start Menu, All Programs, Startup Programs, and clicked on the Dentrix Application.  Once I clicked it the time glass on the  mouse was there for a few seconds and
then went away without the application starting up at all.  One thing that I'm thinking is why after I clicked Start Menu, All programs, is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?  Any Ideas how
to get the program to run?  Like I said, I am trying to run the program in Windows XP Mode and not Windows 7 as I have found many Q's and A's on only how to do that.  Also this is the second application which I downloaded and the first being Microsoft
Security Essentials so I know I don't have some virus from keeping from opening the Dentrix Application.  Incase you are wondering the Microsoft Security Essentials opens and runs fine in Windows XP Mode.  So Pretty Much My Main question is: Why
my application not starting up in Windows XP Mode?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Once I clicked it the time glass on the mouse was there for a few seconds and then went away without the application starting up at all.
A couple times a week I open Dentrix 11.0 in a virtual machine on Windows 7. I experience the same thing almost every time I open the VM. I must first get Windows to "reconnect" my network for me. Do this by opening Start | My Computer, and
double-click on the mapped network drive leading to the Dentrix data. After I can see the Dentrix data drive, Dentrix will be able to read it too and will open correctly.
In Dentrix, seeing nothing (or briefly seeing a hourglass and then seeing nothing) is a classic sign that either:
    - The database files are marked as Read Only
    - The program cannot access the data files (probably the folder it is pointed to does not contain any data).
    - Or possibly the database path does not point to the right location where the data files are located
Open the folder where you installed the program files of Dentrix (probably c:\program files\dentrix\) and double-click to run EP.EXE. The database path will be revealed. You can "Browse" to the correct location, and "OK" through the dialog to
close them. Then try opening Dentrix again.
Should that not work, open Start | My Computer, and try to open the path (starting with the drive letter, then the folder structure you saw in EP.EXE).
By the way, if your path uses UNC (starting with two back-slashes and then the computer name of the server), you'll need to map a network drive and replace your path with a mapped drive path. (Map a drive in Start | My Computer | Tools | Map Network
Drive). Dentrix really doesn't like UNC paths.
Dentrix 10.5 can only be installed on Windows XP
    Microsoft .NET 1.0
Just FYI, Microsoft .Net Framework 1.0 is required only for the "Time Clock" feature of Dentrix. Windows 7 already has .NET Framework features up to version 3.5 built in, and Time Clock (in my experience) works great under Windows 7 without installing
    .NET 1.0.
Have you tried installing directly in Windows 7? I have a specific reason why I don't (I have a newer version of Dentrix installed on my Win 7 machine, and use the VM to go back to an older database occasionally - so I can't mix two different program versions
on the same machine). If you were to try installing this program under Windows 7 directly, Dentrix will launch the Microsoft .NET Framework install after the Dentrix install is completed. Just cancel out at that point (Windows will probably give you an "incompatibility"
error message anyway before allowing the install to go through) and I believe you can run it under Windows 7. That might eliminate the networking-through-the-VM issue. So, if you have no other reason not to install Dentrix on your Windows 7 machine directly,
I'd try it. You might be surprised and if it works, you'd save yourself some headache with connecting the to network through the virual machine.
Is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?
During the installation, on the Select Program Folder screen, you must have clicked the "Startup" option under Existing Folders. By default, "Dentrix" will be typed into the box at the top. If you simply clicked Next, it would have gone
to the correct location. The screen is a little confusing, because something in the list will be highlighted by default, but what is typed into the box at the top will actually be used.

  • No video on Windows 8 after installing drivers

    Hello,
I've just done my first Richland build, specs in signature, and freshly installed Windows 8 on it. Upon first boot, it just uses a generic display driver and all seems to work ok, except, I cannot rate my computer, it breaks with some error that it couldn't test playback performance.
So, I've then downloaded the latest driver pack for my 64-bit Windows 8 OS, installed it, accepted the offer to reboot, got the usual message, and then the display went black and into standby. If I switch it off, and back on, I can see the windows splash screen for a split second before it goes black again.
I can use the latest restore point, and I at least get display, but if I reinstall the drivers, same thing happens again.
Seeing I don't seem to be able to figure out what is wrong, I wanted to at least test this under Windows 7. Installed a fresh copy of Windows 7, display is there, rating works, but graphics performance sections are rated 1.0. Went and installed the latest driver pack, no issues, rated my system again, and graphics performance is now rated 6.8, which is about what is to be expected for integrated.
So, seeing this all at least seems to work under Windows 7, does anyone have any idea as to why this isn't working under Windows 8, and what I might be missing?
    Thanks!
    [Edit]
It seems I didn't wait long enough on Windows 7. Have got the exact same symptoms on Windows 7 now.
Either the new drivers simply are buggy (possibly, seeing it's a brand new APU), or my new APU has a dodgy GPU on board, which may hold up in BIOS mode, and being utterly underutilized by the generic driver?
I don't really want to RMA my new APU if it's just a driver issue. But how to be sure?
Anything else anyone can think of I could try? Or is there actually a way to test your onboard GPU for hardware errors?

GrG, did you use the MSI chipset drivers or AMD drivers for IGP?
    http://www.amd-drivers.com/download-RadeonHD8670D-mobility-driver-for-Windows7-64bit.html
Just to make explicit note, I had no luck with this driver set either.

Sure but I have updated my bios through MSI live and it put an old one insted of the newest, so now my richland cpu is not supported :S
For real? You've used live update to update to the latest BIOS and it updated your 2.x BIOS to 1.x? AFAIK, the current last BIOS you can auto-update to is 1.7, but I imagined it would only let you update if your BIOS version is < 1.7, seeing it clearly states that once you've gone to 2.x, you cannot go back to 1.x. If it really did that, I'd consider that to be a serious bug MSI should really fix. Why on earth would they break Richland support if you've got a Richland APU in your board on update?
Quote from: petter on 27-June-13, 04:41:32
thisway first I have to flash a new bios somehow. After that I am gonna deal with the graphics driver. However I am very disappointed with MSI services and products so far
Sorry about your separate issue, if I was in your shoes, I'd be extremely disappointed with MSI too. In my case, my current disappointment is slightly offset by previous good experience.
That aside, I've made a little progress on my issue. With the default BIOS settings, the most my display ever held up before dropping out was as long as it took to run a full 3DMark 11 test. Not sure how long exactly, but it would have been well under 30 minutes, and I managed that once maybe. Most of the time, it dropped out straight on login. Now, I've managed to push the maximum time of having a stable display to around 4 hours, simply by turning AMD Cool'n'Quiet off in the BIOS settings. Initially, I thought it fixed it, once I went past two hours, but around the 4 hour mark, bang, display dropped out again.
So, if disabling AMD Cool'n'Quiet can make such a big difference, what might that mean? And what else then could I possibly try in the hopes of getting a stable display? Anyone else having any other ideas?
Any suggestions are most certainly appreciated!

  • Lenovo G510 BSOD on Windows 7 after installing RST Driver

    Hello,
I was hoping to figure this out without having to post but unfortunately I cannot seem to get around the problem. I purchased my laptop (Lenovo G510) last month and immediately upgraded to a SSD and then downgraded to Windows 7. There have been no problems until I was installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (Link to Driver).
After installing the driver and rebooting I get the BSOD at the main Windows login screen in any of the boot modes (Regular, Safe, Safe with Network, and Safe with Command). The error dump shows that the issue is linked to itaStorF.sys. Normally I would not need this driver installed and I would just use the Windows generic driver but I have decided to replace the ODD with a HDD Caddy with the 1TB HDD that came with the laptop.
I have seen others say that they have used a HDD Caddy with no issues but I get the BSOD error with this driver even before I installed the Caddy. I can install a more up to date driver from Intel but they eject the HDD Caddy when it is detected and they are meant for Windows 8.
I can provide more information if needed as well as error logs. I would greatly appreciate the help from the community! Thanks!
    Quick Computer Info:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    SSD: Crucial M550
    HDD: Western Digital WD10JPCX
    HDDCaddy: Link to Caddy page
    Edit:
For some additional information, I have done each of the lenovo diagnostic tests, check disks, and memory tests which all came back as healthy.

The issue seem unrelated to the Instant Client. (Looks like you installed from the "full" Database Client product.)
Anyway, is that Windows 7 64-bit? Then, possibly, the software you installed was 32-bit and the driver shows up in the 32-bit MS ODBC admin tool (in wow64 subsystem, for 32-bit apps).

  • Syncing files with Windows 7 after installing Lion

I keep my original files on my iMac desktop and sync with my Windows 7 laptop via home network. After installing Lion I have been unable to sync offline files. Was working fine with Leopard. When I run sync center from the laptop it gives me an error saying all the files are in use by another process. None of the files are open on the mac so not sure what is causing it. I have fiddled with permissions on the mac but doesn't seem to make any difference. Anybody got any ideas?

Though this is an old thread...
I have the exact same problem: Win7 64-bit, and even waited for the Lion Server 10.7.3 update hoping the problem would be fixed... but NO, the same problem is still there.
Symptom: client is a Win7 laptop, the server is Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion Server with SMB and AFP shares. Win7 Offline Files stopped working after I upgraded Snow Leopard to Lion Server. It keep saying "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". Some other WinXP clients are fine with the Offline Files though.
I Googled and studied online for several days now and it might be related to the "Oppurtunistic Locking", or "oplocks" for short, in the SMB protocol. Since Apple has re-written SMB, there's no "smb.conf" anymore to change oplocks setting. Does anyone know how to change the setting in "com.apple.smb.server.plist"?
    From the Internet:
    1. Oplocks should be DISABLED on the server if there is any other file sharing protocol (AFP) other than SMB.
    2. Offline Files will NOT work if Oplocks is disabled on the server side.
    3. It was possible to config oplocks setting in smb.conf before Lion but now there's no such file anymore.

  • Using Windows 7 after installing Lion.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate using Bootcamp in my iMac. Will it be safe after installing Lion or will it get corrupted?

    Will not be safe.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3199099?tstart=0
It may, but it could also present unable to boot back into Windows, it may change the partition number and require editinig BCD or just boot from Windows DVD and repair if possible and lucky.
I would install Lion to another drive, which is possible. It will need to erase the entire drive. Then clone the OS back if you want - or just run Lion off external and test it for a few days.
