Windows disc stuck in Mini
Just tried to install Windows XP on Mac Mini with Boot Camp. Something went wrong and the Windows installer disc is now stuck in my mini. It boots up from the disc on restart. I've tried restarting holding down the mouse and the firmware trick, to no avail. Is there a physical mechanism to eject the disc, or any other suggestions? I just want to scrap the whole Boot Camp idea and go back to normal at this point. Thanks.
p.s. Mini is less than a year old, if that helps tell which model we're dealing with.
check out Kappy's user tip:
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following: /usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

Installing Windows, disc stuck
So here's my big issue:
I'm trying to use Boot Camp to install Windows 7 64-bit (purchased). Unfortunately, I didn't research this decision prior to purchase, so when I tried to install Windows using Boot Camp and installed the Windows disc, it restarted the machine and gave me the error:
1.
2.
Select CD-ROM Boot Type: __
The computer isn't receiving anything from the wireless keyboard (?), so I can't make any selections, input any info, or even eject the disc.
I've tried restarting and hitting the alt/option key to select the partitioned drive I want to use. I've tried hitting the eject button on my keyboard. Nothing is happening or working.
I need help! I can't get back to Mac, I can't move forward with the Windows install, it's stuck stuckity stuck.
Thanks,
MelHonestly I don't think you can easily upgrade windows XP to windows 7 over bootcamp. I think the easiest (but maybe longest) way to get windows 7 up and running in bootcamp, is to backup your files on the windows partition, then erase that partition followed by installing windows 7 on the freshly erased partition using the bootcamp assistant in OS X.

Help! How can I take out the mini-disc stuck in mac?
Help! How can I take out the mini-disc stuck in mac?
I insert it into the mac, but the OS cannot load the disc and the disc cannot be ejected even i pressed the "eject" button. This happened to a family members macbookpro. A mini-cd inserted, couldn't be mounted or ejected by the drive.
I cut a rectangle from a cereal box about two inches wide and 6 inches long. Abour an inch and half from one end in the middle I cut a notch and bent it down a little.

I then inserted it slowly into the drive notch down and slowly pulled out. I did this few times and caught the mimi-cd and removed it. The drive has worked flawlessly for several years
A few days after this happened I was in BestBuy and an Apple rep was there displaying new Apple products. I asked him about it and he said they have a tool that ***** it out. -
Mini Disc stuck in CD player & printing question
I have a mini disc stuck in the cd player. I've pushed eject multiple times, but I don't think that it reads that it is in there. Is there any other way to get it out?
Also, how do you "print selection" like on PCs?Mini DVDs _are not compatible_ with slot-loading optical drives like the one in the MPB. Some users have reported success in extracting mini DVDs from the optical drive by inserting a business card with double-stick tape at the end, then pressing the eject key, and carefully pulling the disc out. Else, you may need to visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for repairs. These will not be covered under warranty.
Print selection is application-dependent. Some apps (e.g. Microsoft Word) support that feature (there's an option in the print dialog box), others do not.
You can take a screenshot of part of the screen (Command-Shift-4) and print that. -
Im running a disk from a text book and the window is stuck in the corner and i cant seem to get it to move. Ive tried restarting the computer and the disk, moving it to trash, changing screen resolution, using mission control, command+M, and nothing is working. Everytime I open it up it goes back to the same location on the screen. HELP!
Remove the disc and don't use it again.

Hi
I have a disc stuck in my drive. When I eject its stats to come out, sounds like it gets wedged, then goes back in again. Is this as serious as I fear and is there an easy way to get the disc out without resorting to striping out the drive.
Many Thanks

Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media
My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install Windows XP to is not available.
So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SATA to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.
Solved!
Go to Solution.hi kiebloom,
Yes, you will need to boot without the HDD to try and access the BIOS again. If you're able to access the BIOS using this method, reload the BIOS defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit.
From here, you can try to:
1. Re-insert the HDD and press the OneKey Recovery button to reinstall Windows 7
2. Create a recovery disc for Windows 7, format the HDD and downgrade to Windows XP
3. Dual-boot Windows 7 and Windows XP (see this guide)
Best regards,

HT1338 cannot insert the disc into mac mini.It seems something obstructed.
cannot insert the disc into mac mini.it seemssomething obstrucetd inside.
1. Go into Spotlight from the top of your Mac Mini on the menu bar.
2. And search for "CDs & DVDs" (It's also in the System Preferences)
Click on it and a small CDs & DVDs window will pop up with options of what happens when you insert a disk into the drive
3. By then, try inserting a disk in (while that window is open. This kinda wakes up your drive to accept the disk). It should accept it.
4. If nothing happens, then manually open the program that should be opening when you insert the disk or go to Finder (Eg. if it's an audio disk, then open iTunes)
5. If opening the program still does not activate the drive to start spinning the disk, then close the programs and windows you opened, and repeat step 1-4 and the disk should be spinning and automatically opening the proper program.
Or go into Terminal app and type in: drutil ejec

Big trouble while installing windows 7 on Toshiba mini 305-310
After upgrading my RAM from Gig to Gig, I decided to install windows 7 on my mini 305-310(black model). First, when I installed windows 7 ultimate (64 bit), everything was fine except screen resolution(my screen resolution stuck at 800 by 600 and I couldn't find the solution). After hopeless attempts, I decided to reinstall windows 7 hoping the screen resolution problem would be solved.
When I re-install windows 7, so many problems emerged. My current problem is "hardware problems were detected" message. Right now, I run memory problem test but I don't know what I did wrong. If hardware problems were detected, that means my Gig ram would be a problem?
I just finished memory test but I can't re-install windows 7 on it. The latest error message is 0x000000F4.
Any help would be great since I spent two days without any success.
My Gig ram is a Crucial brand.
Thank you.
Frustrating starterThank you for your reply. Actually, my posting has some word problems. Actually, I upgraded 2 gig crucial RAM before I installed Windows 7. In two days, there was no problem after Windows 7 install except screen resolution problem. However, after 2 days, I got an error message("hardware problem"). so I replaced my original 1 gig ram and ever since there is no error message regarding "hardware issue".
Right now, I try to find drivers for fixing my screen resolution issue but still there is no success. It would be great if anyone shed light on me to tell what kind of driver I should download and where I can find the driver.
People asked me why I upgrade Windows 7 and they seem to think anyone who upgrades Windows 7 on a netbook is stupid. Well, I may have a stupid mistake for trying to replace XP but isn't it a natural way to have a curiosity for "new" one? My main computer is Mac desktop and I love it but for a personal research, I also need Windows. -
OSX disc stuck in drive whilst installing bootcamp.
I just did the stupidest thing I could have possibly done.
I took my Snow Leopard OSX disc that came with my Mac (I'm running SL don't worry), and put it in my cd drive and ran boot camp assistant, then partitioned 40GB of the drive for windows. After that it said to insert my windows CD and click install.
I FORGOT TO take out the SL disc and put in a windows disc when I hit install.
It restarted my computer and went to a black DOS like screen telling me this.
"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
It won't let me eject the SL disc, and every time I shut down and restart it goes back to this screen. I'm stuck!!!!
I'm using my gf's mac book pro to create this thread, I hope it finds someone.First, to get out of that screen, turn off the computer. Then, turn it on and hold the Option (Alt) key until you see a cursor in the screen. After that, choose Macintosh HD to start into OS X.
After starting into OS X, eject your DVD, and open Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows volume. Finally, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose "Macintosh HD", so your computer will always start into OS X -
Ok, details of installation below, so when I try compose an email, I just get a compose window icon stuck in the windows
taskbar can't actually enlarge it and use it. If I restart in safe mode with all addons disabled, then it works fine. But
If I restart normally and manually disable addons/plugins, then close and start normally again i.e not safe mode, it
breaks, so does not seem to be an addon or plugin but rather something with the configuration.

Trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini Mid2011
Am trying to install Windows 7 on Mac Mini (Mid 2011) OS X Mountian Lion (10.8.2) - 2.3GHz/i5/4GB/500GB with external optical drive attached. Using Windows 7 Ultimate (on USB Flash Drive) and Windows Support Software (on separate USB Flash Drive), as the external optical drive is not recognized when Boot Camp restarts to begin installation process. Here are some issues I am having:
Going through BCA, when selecting the new partition to install on (Disk 0 Partition 4 BOOTCAMP), the warning of "cannot be installed...", so I select Drive Options (advanced)/Format. Drive is reformatted to the NTSF, but loses the BOOTCAMP name. (Reformats to UNTITLED);
Installation of Windows 7 proceeds, until after its third restart and the color bar with the light burst at its center appears at the bottom of the screen with messages stating "Preparing....". The computer then reboots and starts this endless boot loop.
As it never gets to the part where the Windows Support Software is engaged, can I have both the Windows 7 Ultimate installation and the WSS on the same USB?
I have been researching this issue, but with no difinitive solutions (other than snarky "You obviously didn't read the prior post for this issue..." & "Don't people READ previous posts?" responses.), other than one rude reply saying this was a known issues and there is a fix/driver for it, but no reference as to where this fix resides.
Please if anyone has a solution, I would be very grateful for serious and considerate answers. If you feel the need to be rude/snarky/downright unhelpful, don't reply. This is a community help page, not your venting page.
Thank you in advance for all serious replies.
JAMinardRight now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea. -
