Windows disc wont boot...?

Hi
I have migrated my OS / Programmes drive from my PC onto another drive, and hoped I would be able to boot it up on my MAC- however the drive is regognised as a 'windows' drive, but refuses to boot...could someone tell me what Im doing wrong?
Thanks!

Windows normally needs to be "repaired" via System Recovery or such, depending on whether XP or Vista, and boot from your CD/DVD. The boot manager is confused as to where it "woke up."

    Hi kinghamster678,
Can we get into the recovey mode ?Have you got a installation media or a recovery disk ?
Resettting the machine is the last option and we will lose all the data.We can try to boot from the installation media or a recovery disk. Then we can choose the recovery mode to have a repair.
    "Startup Repair " ,"System Restore".

  • T-400 with Windows 7 Wont Boot

T-400 Thinkpad with Windows 7 64 Bit suddenly wont boot.  No changes were made to the system.  Turned it on got message "Windows was unable to start".  Choose "Start Normally" or "Repair Mode".  Neither option will work.  I got a Windows 7 Home Edition 64 Bit dvd and tried to start Windows from the DVD.  After choosing the prompt to boot from cd/dvd the Windows splash screen shows up with Starting Windows, but will go no further.    Any suggestions?

  • Windows partition wont' boot from internal secondary HDD? No bootable device error

Here is my scenario: I previously had a 500GB bootcamped HDD in my 2012 macbook pro. The boot camp partition was running windows 7 and the mac partition was running 10.9. I replaced my original HDD with a 250GB SSD, took out my optical drive, and replaced that (op drive) with my original HDD. When i boot from the main drive, the SSD, it successfully recognizes the HDD with the 2 different partitions on it. But when I try to boot into my windows partition(on the HDD) by holding option at startup and selecting the windows partition, I keep getting a black screen "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and hit any key". I tried installing rEFIt, but still no luck. Here is the output from partition inspector:

Please download Gdisk from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ . You do not have a valid MBR on disk1 so Windows will not boot, even though you can see the volume in OS X Finder on the HDD.
Use Gdisk to recreate a Hybrid MBR which includes GPT#4.

  • Windows 7 wont boot after install of boot camp drivers

I have been trying to get boot camp on imac mid 2010 with Maverick.   TodayI used
    Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621
    The first set of drivers
    Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033
kept crashing on windows. Today I noticed a new set of drivers, well its the same issue. If I leave off the boot camp drivers windows is fine, except no sound and other driver missing issues but it works. The problem seems to be Mav or the drivers, before updating to Mav everything was fine. Sometimes I can even get to the windows log on screen, at one point I was able to log on and do things. So being smart, I restarted and the problem came back.  Who says Macs dont have issues.
    Any thoughts

Just ran into this same issue.
My problem got resolved after using the x64 version DVD of Win7 (just x64 instead of the DVD that had both x86 and x64 versions).
    What I did:
    My host is Windows 8.1
After installing Windows 7 x64 as VM on my 8.1 based laptop two days ago, I wanted to do the same on my desktop PC, but I had the same issue described here.
I used a DVD just with the x64 version for my laptop and a DVD with both x86 and x64 version for my desktop.
Tried repairing as advised by a post, but got the error: "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible
with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows."
I exported and imported the VM from my laptop to my desktop to test it and it ran with no problems.
So I tried the DVD that had just the x64 version of Win7 and that installed without issues.
I'm curious if this happens only when a DVD with more than one Win7 versions is used.

  • Windows Vista Wont Boot!! HELP!!

Hello -- I have owned and Acer Aspire M5641 for 4 months with Windows Vista Home Premium preloaded by Acer.
I started having problems with random shut dows, restarts, blue screens. The last blue screen was 0x0000007B. I couldnt get past it, not even in safe mode. So I emailed Acer Support (apparently I have to pay to call) and explained the problem to them, asked for help. They told me to do a System Restore back to Factory Defaults.
I went ahead, completed that and now when I turn on the system I get the Acer splash screen, and then  a black screen "Windows Boot Manager" that says: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be to blame. Well isnt it setting back to factory defaults, How can there be a software/hardware problem?  Anyways, it continues to say : To fix the problem insert installation disc and restart computer. If you dont have this disc, contact the computer manufacturer/system administrator.( I have contacted Acer, they are no longer responding to my pleas for help. I refuse to call and pay $300 for them to probably decide not to help me anyways.) The screen also says,
    File: \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
    Status: 0xc0000221
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt.
It also gives me an option instead of loading Vista (which I cant) to use a tool: Windows memory diagnostic tool which comes up with, status: Hardware problems were detected, to identify and repair those problems, contact your system administrator/computer manufacturer.
I have tried to contact Acer, thus far they havent helped/responded. I tried booting from a Vista Recovery CD, but that was of no help either.
Can I use a Recovery DVD from another computer manufacturer? (a friend has one from HP) Or is there a way to get a Vista install disc from somewhere? Without buying new from store. I have the product key from the preloaded version that came on the computer.
Any Ideas/Suggestion would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You!!

From what I could find on your particular error code, it appears that the computer had an error as a result of a "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". Microsoft support can associate that error with a boot sector corruption possibly as a result of a virus. I would possibly lean towards corruption and not a hardware issue because the computer is only 4 months old. Still, to remove the possibility of a failing hard drive, I suggest you bring the unit into your nearest Geeksquad® and have them run diagnostics under the manufacture warranty. Inform the Agent of what you were doing before the error occured so they might be able to give you tips on how to prevent it. But in your current situation, I would suggest reloading the operating system after talking to an agent in a store who can better examine the computer. Recovery discs are unique to your computer and recovery discs from a friend's HP will not work. Call Acer and they should not charge you to inquire about getting a new set of recovery discs. Recovery discs are generally $10 - $30. As an alternative, go to Acer's support site (http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/webpage.cfm?website=AcerPanAm.com/us&siteid=7293&areaid=7) and order the dics from there.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Agent Kevin - CIA Precint 00135

  • Dv6 1361sb with 64bit Windows 7 wont boot even with recovery CD

Our HP dv61361sb with 64bit Windows 7 laptop died.  I can't get it to boot past the Windows 4 color flag...goes to a graduated blue screen and stops, or if I use the boot recovery discs I just ordered for it, it stops at a graduated grey screen and won't go any further if I force it to boot from the CD by hitting escape on boot..  I ran boot tests on the hard drive and memory, and all check out 100% OK.  Looked on HPs help site and it just says to insert the recovery disc and follow the on-screen instructions...can't get that far.  Any ideas?

Do you have another hard drive that you can try?

  • Windows 7 wont boot from CD

Hello, i recently had my mac Laptop serviced which involved wiping the hard drive, and now i have to re-install windows.
i have my windows 7 ultimate CD and my mac is running fully updated software, every time i hit start installation of windows on boot camp, or even boot from the CD instead of going into mac, the screen goes black and just idols, eventually the fans turn off and it appears to be completely off, moving mouse/pressing keys has no effect, but it is on, and in order to get anywhere i have to hold the power button to turn it off and then press it again to turn it on, can boot into mac okay, but i need the windows side working ASAP.
what can i do to fix this?

You may have a faulty Windows disk. Can you borrow a different one to try starting with?
I had a non functioning Vista disk a couple of years ago and Microsoft willingly replaced it via a phone conversation.

  • IMac running on Mac OS 10.5.8 & Windows XP wont boot from Mac OS

I have an iMac running Mac OS 10.5.8 and Windows XP (ServicePack 3) on Boot Camp 2.2. This configuration has worked for me perfectly for the past 2 years up until recently. From nowhere, the system is now refusing to boot to Mac OS but boots into Windows XP without any problem.
    I have tried to repair the Boot Camp 2.2 in Windows XP via the repair/update option from the Boot Camp installation but its giving a fail message;
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installingthis package. The error code is 2727.
    I have also tried to verify and repair the Macintosh HD partition using the Disk Utility but its giving me the following error message;
    On verify disk
    Invalid Sibling link
    Volume check failed
ERROR: Filesystem verify or repair failed.
I could repartition and start all over again but there are some files and emails I need to retrieve from the Mac partition before I delete and repartition.
Is there any shareware software that I can install on theWindows XP partition and be able to access/retrieve my files in the Mac partition?

you can't repair Mac OS X from Windows.
What you need to do and realize is that Disk Utility is not good enogh or reliable enough and you need 3rd party disk repair utility.
Or just restore Mac HFS from backups.
You may want to install Mac OS on another external hard drive
Recover the files there - probably best to have two partitions.
you should have already created multiple backup sets: clone type and TimeMachine
Disk Warrior is $90 or there is TechTool Pro 6 for almost same
Cloning is easy enough either from Mac OS X DVD Disk Utility Restore or from another hard drive.

  • When I load drivers for HD7850 windows 7 wont boot

New PC with Asus P8Z77-V LX mobo. i5 cpu. windows 7 64bit OS.  runs fine with its on board graphics.
I installed 2GB MSI HD7850 oc . system boots and I get video out from new card.
When I load drivers and system reboots, windows will not load and I have to use system restore to bring PC back to life.
I tried driver from CD with card, and also downloaded latest from both AMD and MSI same result
Anyone know where I am going wrong?

ok so the card if functioning so i would suggest (got the same sort of card on this computer that you use) >>Driver Fusion<< in safe mode to wipe the drivers and fragments from your system and use AMD CCC 12.10 drivers http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/12/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=12.10 as i'm using them myself as the newer ones caused my computer to have all kinds of issues in windows 7 64bit!
if they don't work you could have a go at updating your motherboards BIOS then the graphics cards VBIOS!

Power down (assume you have already tried the SMC reset) and insert the Applications DVD that came with your new iMac. Boot up while holding the "D" key down (may be best with a wired keyboard) to run the Apple Hardware Test according to these instructions:

Your Leopard discs are useless, since this machine shipped with Snow Leopard. Boot the machine with the disc that came with it and run Disk Utility from there. Since you say it's new, call AppleCare and let them fix things if you're unable to start it up.

Do i need to make a clone or will my time machine backup work.
TimeMachine drives are not "hold the option key bootable" like a clone and with Lion there is only a "hold Command r"  Recovery Partition on the same drive your trying to repair.
So to get a external source to boot Lion, you need to Carbon Copy Cloner Lion to a another new/blank Disk Utility HFS+ Journaled formatted drive. Disconnect your TimeMachine drive before doing anything and don't clone to it or everything will be erased, use another drive.
Once you have Lion cloned, hold option and boot from the Lion clone and test it out.
    mcwilliamsc wrote:
I only have one external drive andni dont think a clone will fit.
Only clone to another drive with no data on it, don't clone to a partition, don't clone to a TimeMachine drive. Disconnect all other drives before cloning so you don't make a mistake.
    mcwilliamsc wrote:
Also when you say c boot do you mean using a lion install disk as opposed to the install option when you boot into disk utility?
Your signature says you have 10.6.8, obviously there are no install disks for 10.7, however you can make some by "hold option" and clicking on Purchases in the MacAppStore and redownloading the Lion installer (but don't install)
Follow these directions to make multiple "hold c" bootable DVD copies of the Lion installer.
    http://eggfreckles.net/notes/burning-a-lion-boot-disc/
Test the disks out, you can see it's just like the 10.6.8 installer disk with Disk Utility and everything.
With a Lion DVD one can install Lion AND the Lion Recvoery Partition on a new or totally erased drive, like we are about to do.
When you clone Lion, it only clones the Lion OS X partition, not the Lion Recovery Partition. So by totally erasing the entire disk and installing Lion from the DVD can the Lion Rececovery Partition and Lion OS X partition be restored and your GPT repaired and your firmware flushed.
So once you got a Lion clone disconnect it, then c boot from the DVD and erase your ENTIRE Lion internal drive, this means you have to select the drive makers name on the left, HFS+ journaled of course.
Once that is competed, install Lion fresh, this will create both the Lion OX  partition and the Lion Recovery Partition.
When that is finished, don't bother booting into the fresh Lion install, simply option boot off the Lion clone and reverse clone onto the Lion OS X partition, this will place back Lion, all your programs and files just like before.
Then you should be back to normal, your GTP is fixed, EFI is fixed (reboot twice) and you have everything except the Windows bootcamp partition.

  • 24" iMac - Wont boot from HD or disc... Help!

    Hi guys,
Just been working on iMac, forget the exact spec but it's a 24" Intel 2.something Core 2 Duo or whatever it is, 4gb DDR2 RAM, gotta be about 2 years old to the day and after my last 2 Macs have lasted forever, never developing a fault, I didn't take out Applecare... Perhaps I had a bit too much faith...
As I say, just working away and all of a sudden, upon putting a video in Quicktime to full screen, the whole image has kinda of condensed itself into the top 20% of the screen and started slightly flickering the image. I've tried quitting some of the programmes, but neither the mouse nor leyboard have been responding so I've just had to turn the computer off.
I've gone to turn it back on, and after about 30 seconds, it's got as far as the grey screen but then the little spinning progress indicator pauses and it does nothing else.
I've reset the PRAM and that made it take longer before it froze but ultimately did nothing.
I've now tried getting it to boot from the Snow Leopard disc but this does the something, until after about 3 - 5 minutes, the screen goes all pshychedlic, like looking at an old school TV really close...
So looking for any suggestions on other things to try before I have to take to my local store... Any hazard a guess at what may be up with it?
I've got a back up the whole computer but I don't think this is a software problem, I'm assuming it's going to be a hardware one?
Any help at all would be much appreciated!

Ok, tried Safe Mode and that wont boot either. Saw a little progress bar on the grey screen though which made a change, but ultimately, it crashed once that had disappeared.
I've just noticed that at the point when the progress wheel stops spinning, a pattern of dead pixels appears across the screen that aren't there when the progress wheel is spinning.
The more I talk to people about this, the more graphics card seems to come back as the likely culprit, based on the fact that:
    - it started by me putting a video to full screen
    - the fact the display went weird when it first happened and also it plays up after it crashes with the psychedelic colours
    - it wont boot from HD, disc or now in safe mode either, however it does run AHT fine.
    - I've hoovered out the vents on the iMac and somehow it seems slower than it was before (bit odd)
    - the dead pixel thing mentioned above
So now thinking it may be time to get a new graphics card?
Reckon this is likely, even though the AHT hasn't picked up any problems? As mentioned earlier, I'm not too concerned about it would seem it doesn't particularly test the graphics card too much, so all just seems to point towards it.
Anything else that I could do to single this out as the likely culprit?
Guess this is a chance to upgrade!
