Windows do not open. I cannot download from some sites

Ever since the update to 3.6.12 I have been having prob;ems downloading from certain sites. I am obliged to open an IE browser for those downloads.
WHen I try to manage some Add-Ons the window opens for a split second and disappears.
And now this latest Error 401 - No Proper Credentials.
I am an intermediate but have no clue why this is happening. I just started FF in Admin Mode same problem
Win7 Home Premun, x64, i7-860 dual quad 8 MB, 2.6
What could be interfering with this? Can anyone help me?

This may seem like a very simple thing, but make sure you have a clip selected before you click on the adjustment buttons. If this does not work, you may have to reinstall imovie.

You need to update Firefox to 3.6.17 via Help | Check For Updates.

Cannot download from Intranet sites

Hi,
We have VPN setup through a Cisco 877w router. Everything works fine, we can share files, browse the Intranet pages but we cannot download files (.doc, .xls) from the page. The browser says folder or files not found. Those files can be accessed via the file server.
Could someone let me know what could prevent it please?

Go to cisco.com and search for ip tcp mss-adjust. This explains how to manipulate the maximum segment size on your office lan. Your server probably starts sending your requested file with an mtu of 1500. Since it traverses a tunnel that has a smaller mtu and the don't fragment bit is set on your server the router just drops the packets returning an icmp message "df set but fragmentation needed". You problably woud be able to see that on your server using a packet capture program. Just try to lower your server's MTU size of program the "ip tcp mss-adjust" command on your router. Start with a value of 1300 and gradually go up.

Problems downloading from some sites

I have been trying to download Onyx from various websites and have failed with the message +"operation could not be completed (Webkiterror Do......."+ I can't read the rest of the error message despite widening the window. This also happened when trying to download Google videochat plugin (brother in law has a windows computer and is unable to connect to my iChat). Firefox also stalls on the downloads. I can update my software from Apple but I am stuck.
Firstly, could someone tell me how to get the whole of the message and secondly how to stop it from happening? The firewall for safari should allow all incoming traffic.

Hi, sorry I've been at work. I've run the disk utility and repaired the files. I've had a look through the internet plug-ins and can't see anything that shouldn't be there and I can't see any remnant of Onspeed in the pref files. I'm lost. I'm a but flumoxed as to why Firefox is hanging on the downloads as well.

I can surf, but I can't download from some sites

I have a WRT110, which works fine. I can surf, wireless is good. But in a few cases, I can't download software or updates -- Lavasoft AdAware, a Verizon app that I need for FIOS, even Microsoft SP3. Any idea what settings could be causing this? I don't know enough to have changed any of the defaults yet.
Note: I am using the built-in firewall, no other firewall. I've tried turning off the firewall and my anti-virus program - no change. Thanks in advance.

Ok..Try to connect the computer directly to modem and test to download those updates you mentioned. This will confirm whether the problem was caused by router. If still having same problem, it's either the problem on your computer or Internet service.

Firefox Window Will not Open on iMac

When, I open firefox the options menu loads in the tool bar at the top of the screen, but is grayed out. Also, the main window does not open. I can access some options from the tool bar, but the browser window never opens. See screenshot - http://screencast.com/t/suM5Sso7keZ

Have you tried Firefox safe mode? It could be an extension reponsible.
If not, you could try moving the profile to another location, such as the desktop and then starting up Firefox so that it has to make a new profile. See if that works. If so, it could be something in the profile that is damaged, such as the localstore.rdf file.

when I try to download from some site,for example this:
"http://downloads.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.4/macosx/vlc-0.8.4.dmg"
or from sourceforge.net nothing is downloaded and on the window of safari, in the title bar, appears for example: "vlc-0.8.4.dmg.gif 1x1 pixel".
what can I do?

By the sounds of things you have NetBarrier installed.
Check your ad-blocking settings to see if it's blocking the download of files from some of these sites.

Csound1 What Ive been trying to explain is that I have been running bootcamp, I open the app where the first screen is the introduction, i hit continue, the first time I select "download the latest windows support software fromm Apple" then I return and instead select "Install Windows 7." Then hit continue. The third screen is where I "Create a Partition for Windows" I set Windows to 80 gigs then hit INSTALL. As stated before Bootcamp cannot find the install drivers saying "The installer disc could not be found." My windows software is on a USB drive not a disc, I tried using a virtual disc reader to make it appear that the windows software was running on a disc, still no luck. What I would like to know is how to install windows on bootcamp.

Open Acrobat. Use the click-path Edit - Preferences - select the Category "Email Accounts". In the dialog there is the "Add Account" drop-down. Select "Add Other". The "Add Webmail Account" dialog presents. You'll fill out the dialog's fields with Outlook.com settings. (don't forget the "Advance Settings" button)
From a look-see on the web it appears that the following are the needed settings. BUT, you'll be wanting to validate.
The Outlook.com SMTP server settings for sending outgoing messages from an email program on desktop, cell phone or mobile device are:
• Outlook.com SMTP server address: smtp.live.com
• Outlook.com SMTP user name: Your full Outlook.com email address (not an alias)

With OSX10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02 when I try to open a PDF downloaded from the web I get 'There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired. Preview will not open either. Older PDFs OK.

I am running OS X 10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02. In the last few days I have been unable to open PDF's downloaded from the web. Reader gives the error message 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired'. Removing Reader and trying to use Preview to open these files give the error 'Preview cannot open this file. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise' (or something like that). Downloading the same files with Reader removed from my Mac Preview opens the files OK.
I was recently prompted to update Adobe software but did not note exactly what the update was nor when it was done.
Reader and Preview will both open PDFs I downloaded a week ago. Reader will also open files downloaded on another Mac running OS X 10.0.0 and copied to my Mac. Any ideas?

from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Okay i looked them up and YES they are compatible with macs. if it's formatted for windows then no it will not show up on the mac, you need to repartition it on windows or try and see if you can pick it up in Disk Utility on osX. i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?

ActiveX print window is not opening from crystal viewer

I'm facing problem on Printing from Crystal viewer .
I have launched the crystal report from an ASPX application. For the print icon , I have added code for opening the ActiveX print window instead of usual crystal print window.
Issue is , print window is not opening in the client machines whereas window is opening properly in the server machine where the crystal report is installed.
We have implemented RDC type of reporting and not the RAS .

Just bought a new Imac OX 10.9. Installed contents from previous Time Machine. All looks good. But, now, when I try to open any file downloaded from interent (like the Amazon mp3 downloader, for example or a plugin update) I get this message:
"XXX can’t be opened because it was not downloaded from the Mac App Store" . Help! Thanks

Got it solved! System preferences, security & privacy icon, general: allow apps downloaded from Mac Store and Identified developers! Phew!
