  • IPod Nano: Error Message "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it"

Hi everyone, I just received 2 brand new iPod Nanos for my kids for Christmas, thought I'd be smart and sync them both now before wrapping them so I don't have to be messing around with them on the day. One synced without a problem, then using the same cable, same computer, same USB port, the 2nd one came up with "The USB device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it" I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging and reinserting the USB. Is there anthing else I can try before returning it? Thanking you for any help.

I have solved my problem, I ended up ringing Apple and got an awesome lady who told me to reset it by pressing the sleep button and menu button together for about 10 seconds and once it actually turned on for the first time the computer then recognised it, so it's all good, :-) Thank you lovely lady!

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi ameet2005,
Please check if the following suggestions help:
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
    1. Click "Start" button, type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press "Enter". Click “Continue”
    if necessary.
    2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
If the issue persists, please check if it can be resolved by running
    System File Checker.

  • Windows XP does not recognise USB devices after installing itunes 7.2

After downloading itunes 7.2 my PC no longer recognises my ipod nano (2G, 2Gig). Uninstalling itunes 7.2 and reverting to a previous version makes no difference.
On top of this my PC no longer recognises my external USB 2.0 HDD.
Uninstalling and allowing windows to rediscover USB devices \ hubs etc as per MS recomendations has not resolved my problem
Both devices function with no issues when plugged into my laptop.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this will be greatly received!
    Many thanks
    Justdoit2.

Power down and wait... does not solve the "USB Device Not Recognized" problem in my desktop running XP Professional.
All five USB Root Hubs are stucked. I tried uninstalled them all and let XP to find new devices but afterwards the problem still remains.
By the way, I have a thousand songs stored in the iPod Nano (2nd generation). Will iPod reset erase all my songs?

  • Itunes on windows does not recognise ipad

iTunes on my windows xp pc does not always recognise my iPad.  Also, the icon in the task bar which indicates when a usb device is attached, does not appear.
Neither of these problems appear when I attach my iPod.
    Any suggestions will be welcome
    Robin

The iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone do not appear as external drives which is why they do not show up in your Task Bar as externals the way an iPod will do if the option "Manually manage music…" has been checked. With that option selected the option "Enable disk use…" automatically becomes available which means that you can drag files to the unused portion of the drive. This is not the case with the devices mentioned above. As to the recognition of your iPad by iTunes you might want to check to see that the connection is firmly in place each time that you mount it onto the computer-- both the computer USB connection and the Apple Dock connector.

  • ITunes does not recognise USB Flash Drive

    Hi everyone,
I am repeating this request in the hopes that the daytime crowd will have someone who can help!
I plug a usb flashdrive into my MacBook with iTunes active.
    It comes up on desktop.
It does not appear as device in iTunes.
I can move files (albums) to the device from music menu under Go.
I cannot save my playlists from iTunes.
How do I get iTunes to recognise the usb drive.
    Thanks,  Steve.

    Hello Limnos,
Thanks again for all your help.
Since my initial response I've looked in a little more depth at the track names.
All my files are stored and played at CD quality from the original CD rather than MP3.
It appears that track names are extracted from the Library and look a little different from those that appear in the iTunes playlist.
I see now that the first element of the track name is the track number from the original CD. So if my playlist is made up of 3 CDs then all the track 01s get stored first and played first, followed by track 02s etc.
I do not think it will take a great deal of effort to renumber the tracks from 01 to xty in what ever order I want them played since I usually play complete albums all the way through.
    Thanks again,  Steve.
BTW. Based on this I went out today and bought an 8Gb flash drive that I shall use to take our music with us on holiday.  Saves a great weight in CDs! (and lets us get under new airline weight restrictions)

  • Satellite Pro A300-1H2 - Windows does not recognise HDD

    Hi,
i'm a newbie, this has probably bin asked before so if it has you'l have to excuse me, i have a satellite pro A300-1h2.
I got the blue screen unmountable boot volume, so have tried to fit a new samsung drive. I put in my windows disc it loads all the drivers then says there is no hard disc?
In bios it recognises it ???
    Thanks if anyone can help

    Hi
The problem is that your notebook supports the HDD SATA controller but the OS system does not contain the SATA drivers
You could set in BIOS the SATA mode to compatible.
This will allows you to install the OS without the installation of SATA drivers.

  • 'USB device malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it'

This started happening today. So I went on the Apple website to try and find a solution. I looked on all the troubleshooting advice it gave, including restarting my iPod, reinstalling iTunes, restarting my computer, I've tried everything to try and get it to connect to my computer again, but unfortunately nothing is working. Then I went to the last resort of restoring my iPod, got it into disk mode, but my computer still wouldn't recognise it so, I couldn't even restore it. My iPod is basically new, I only got it for Christmas 2010 and I'm always careful with it. I don't know if it might be something to do with the drivers needed to recognise my iPod or if it's the actual iPod, but I have no idea how to go about fixing it. Please help me!

    yea
In some cases you might have to change the Usb cable, change the usb port,  check if the computer drivers and properly installed, restart the computer and relaunch itunes again to restore. i dont know if you also used this but click on this link and you might see you solution      http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567

  • Telstra Gateway Max (C300BD-1TLAUS) does not recognise USB

Hi, I've connected a USB drive to the USB port on the back of the modem, and so far I cannot get the drive to be recognised over the network. The below describes the situation: - The External hard drive is a 2TB seagate, formatted as HFS+ (for Mac)- I've gone into the modem administration and switched on content sharing. Content Sharing-> File Sharing -> USB File sharing: Enabled- My modem is on firmware 5510_V10410- I am using default LAN IP ranges with Dynamic IP (DCHP)- After enabling the file sharing, I can see a folder called TELSTRA-GATEWAY, which has two subfolders called Storage0 and Storage1. Both of these are empty folders. I cannot see any of the existing files or folders already on the external hard drive- To mix it up a bit, I also used a thumb drive in the back of the modem, however I was unable to see anything on that drive as well- On my network I'm running both a MacBook Pro and a Surface Pro 3, I'm unable to see the drives from either OSX or Windows 10. I've scoured through existing posts and tried all the solutions offered against each of those, however unfortunately they haven't worked for me. Any help or ideas would very much be welcome, I've burned a lot of time trying to get this to work! Thanks in advance guys, Khi

Hi ProfessorPhone, Thanks for taking the time to reply. That seems strange that Telstra would retain the ability to enable USB file sharing, in it's firmware management module, but then disable it in the background. Did you or any of the people who had a similar issue, ever get a response from Telstra themselves? Makes me wonder whether I can overwrite the bespoke Telstra firmware, with Netgear OEM firmware, hence the full functionality of the router can then be enabled.... Khi

  • Firefox update 8 for windows does not recognise me as an administrator. Windows 7 home control panel shows i am an administrator. What gives and how can i make the update?

    hardware: Lenovo G56 laptop
    OS Windows 7 Home
usual logon is using Veriface, but that executes my password.
The upgrade window asks to choose between two profiles:
one is mine, where username and password are pre-filled and greyed out, the other is called Administrator, with no password. If I insert my password in this field it saya 'no such account' and if Is elect my own logon (I am the only user btw!) it says I do not have sufficient privileges!
I am going to create a second user, also an Administrator, and see if that might overcome this issue...

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Windows does not recognise nokia 3500 connected wi...

Generally I use my phone as a modem . As I didn't have a usb cable I used bluetooth to connect my phone. I tried to upgrade my phone's software using it's onboard software updater it says "no update found" though my phone's software version is 5.51 . Then I tried to use software updater but it said I need a data cable. Then I bought a cable. I connected my phone and choosed nokia mode . Phone shows that it has been connected but pc shows nothing-no sound,no pop ups nothing. Then I opened nokia pc suite but it was showing "no phone connected." . I opened the get connected wizard and selected cable connection but it was showing please connect your phone though my phone was connected. I used different ports and found no problem with the ports . Then I tried to connect nokia 6500s and nokia 3110 classic. Nokia 6500 connects with no problem but 3110 classic has the same problem as 3500c (which has same mini connector socket like 3500c). I used three different data cables but no luck with none of them. How to solve this?
