Windows does not recognize my iphone name, but itunes does

This is a reqpost of another forum on diff site, but is the exact same problem i have~
After the IOS5 update~  and and updating two phones on same computer~
I have windows 7 x64bit, and the problem is it does not recognize my iPhone's name anymore.. in itunes it shows the correct name but when ever i look at My Computer listed under portable devices the name is wrong instead of being Louie's iPhone it shows Kim's iPhone (My Fiancees iPhone).. i can still access it and get my pictures and stuff but the name of the device is just wrong.. so im hoping you guys know how to solve this problem.. this only started happening when i installed iOS 5...
so to sum it up..
iTunes... Louie's iPhone
Windows... Kim's iPhone
here are the things I already did but did not work...
... uninstalled everything apple, rebooted and reinstalled.
... restored my iPhone as new 3x and still nothing....
I am at a lost here.. so please help me guys? i know you can solve this coz sinful has never failed me before

In Windows 7, it is not possible to change the name by right-clicking and selecting properties! It doesn't work...
The only solution that worked was to search the registry for the incorrect name and adjust it by hand, which strikes me as a pretty ****** solution! Better would be that the Apple USB driver would just use a neutral name like "iPhone". Which makes me wonder what would happen if two iPhones are connected at the same time: how can they be told apart in the "Computer" application?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    Hi kathyt8952 ,
Would you please share us more details of the issue ?
Have you checked the driver issue from the device manager ?Have you tried to connect the device from another USB port to have a check ?
We can take the following steps to have a check .
1.Open "run" from the start menu, and run "services.msc".
    2.Search "Apple Mobile Device".
3.On "status" column right click and then click on "Properties"
4.In the "general" tab find the "startup type" drop-down arrow menu and make sure "automatic" is selected.
5.Also in the general tab check the "service status". If it does not say "started" then click the start button.
6.At the bottom of the properties window click "apply".
If the issue persists, we can refer to the following link to have a troubleshoot :

  • TS1500 Windows does not recognize the iPhone as existing, though iTunes can see it.

Windows does not recognize the iPhone as existing, though iTunes can see it.

I found a webpage where a user reported the same issue as me.
He said he determined that "foreign pictures" -- meaning any pictures not taken using the iPhone's camera -- were the cause. Once he deleted the "foreign pictures" -- such as pictures obtained from receiving texts from others which included pictures that he saved onto the iPhone, then iTunes worked.
In my case, the fix was to upgrade the iPhone's OS from 5.1.1 to the latest version.
    Now, both issues are solved:
Windows recognizes the iPhone as a storage device.
iTunes can see pictures that I've saved on the iPhone.

  • My new computer with Windows 8.1 does not recognize my iPhone when connected via USB.

My new Dell Computer with Windows 8.1 does not recognize my iPhone 5 when connected via USB.  I have reinstalled iTunes to no avail.

Hey, I may have to if I can't get this one to work!!
I have tried a different USB to no avail.  Both cables work on my old Dell so I don't believe they are the issue.
I uninstalled iTunes as directed by Apple Support and reinstalled.  Apparently, Apple Mobile Device Support is not loading with it because it does not show up in programs.

I have a desktop mac operating on Mac OSx 10.4.11 and the system does not recognize my iphone and I am unable to upgrade to the newest itunes version. What do I need to do?

    Backup first
It is always best to have a full bootable backup before you upgrade. If you fail to do this you will be unable to return to this OS if you decide you don't like the new OS. Also there is a slight chance that an install could lose everything on the Mac. The backup must be to an external hard disk. Preferably use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable backup of the whole disk.
    Erase before the install
Once you have a bootable backup on an external disk it is best to erase the internal disk with the new installer DVD before you install.
    During the install
Preferably do not import any data or preferences from earlier OSs during the install process as this can reintroduce bugs.
    OS numbers and names
    OS X 10.4.x - Tiger
    OS X 10.5.x - Leopard
    OS X 10.6.x - Snow Leopard
    OS X 10.7.x - Lion
    OS X 10.8.x - Mountain Lion
    More about Macs
The Apple History site has specifications for every Mac ever produced: http://www.apple-history.com/
    Upgrade to Leopard
Those wishing to upgrade to Leopard should be aware that install disks can be expensive unless you contact Apple. Details: http://lowendmac.com/deals/best-os-x-leopard-prices.html Standard Leopard installers impose several hardware limitations including speed and RAM size but all these restrictions can be overcome. Google for details. Leopard works well at 500 MHz with 1 GB of RAM and many happy users have less than this.
    Upgrade beyond Leopard
OSs beyond OS X 10.5.8 require an Intel processor. If in doubt check this: Click the apple at the top left of your screen and select 'About this Mac'. This will give you your OS number. Then click 'More Info' to see which processor you have. If it says PowerPC you cannot upgrade to Snow Leopard and above. If you have an Intel Mac it is well worth upgrading to Snow Leopard now and then considering other options after that. You can buy Snow Leopard here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
    Upgrade beyond Snow Leopard
Information about upgrading Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z/A
    Important
Check that your Mac complies with any requirements. If you are not in the US you should use the Change Country link at the bottom of Apple pages.

  • ITunes 10.5.0.142 does not recognize my iPhone 3GS

My PC is running Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit OS.  My iTunes and iPhone syncing has been flaky since I began using this machine in July, 2011 but was working.  However, now iTunes does not recognize my iPhone at all.  Previously I was able to force a sync by opening iTunes and then plugging in the phone, but now that is no longer working.  The iPhone is recognized by the computer as it does charge, I can see it as a device in Window's Explorer and it asks what I would like to do with the photos / videos.
Here is the latest info on what is installed for each device:
    - iTunes:  10.5.0.142
    - iPhone:  OS 5.0.1, Firmware 05.16.05
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Feel free to ask further questions as I'm not exactly sure what other information to provide at the present time; I'm pretty much at a loss right now.
    Thanks!
    John

I am having the same problem. I have a 16Gb iPhone 3GS ios v 4.2.1 with iTunes v 10.5, yet when I connect the phone it tells me there are no updates available. I have 2 iPads, an iMac and a Macbook pro - all of which have upgraded successfully. I thought ios5 was available for the 3GS iPhone. Anyone got any ideas?

  • My computer does not recognize my iphone

I am frustrated!  My computer (which I just restored from an older time machine version and got mountain lion on, does not recognize my iphone now.  I'm not sure what is going on, but I need to figure it out because I have a new iphone 5 that I am ready to plug in, but want to make sure the latest version of my phone is on my computer.

    Mac, Windows, Linux?
If you have Windows, make sure you have run Windows Update, reboot, or turn off your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that is blocking the device.  The last one is what was stopping my iPod from talking to iTunes.

  • Vista does not recognize my iPhone / Not charging

    Two problems:
    1. Extemely slow charging:
    - I've had my iPhone plugged in to the wall all night. The battery meter only shows 20% power.
    - When charging from my computer or the mains, the charge icon does not appear.
    - I've tried charging off my laptop, desktop and the mains.
    - I've tried using the cradle and just the usb cable by itself.
    2. Widows does not recognize my iPhone:
    - I have Vista 32bit
    - I have tried multiple USB ports, all of which work with other devices
    - I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes about 10 times now
    - I have restarted iPhone and my PC many times now
When I start the machine, this is the sequence of events:
    1. I get a message saying:
"Windows needs to install driver software for you Unknown Device"
    2. I get a message saying:
    "Installing device driver software"
    3. I get a message saying:
"Windows couldn't find driver software for your device"
    - I click on "check for a solution"
    4. Then it tells me:
"Windows Vista does not support midiport device"
PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I GO COMPLETELY CRAZY!!!

The failure to charge sounds like a defective cable. Check this first.
If you are running 64 bit Vista it will not work with the iPhone.
If you are running 32 bit Vista make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (7.5). The reboot the phone - hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears (about 8 seconds).
