Windows doesn't recognize Iphone after 3.1 upgrade

Hi everyone,
I have a iPhone 3g that I upgraded to 3.1 on release date. Since then the phone has worked and synced okay. (except for it occasionally not coming out of sleep mode and I assume that will be fixed in 3.1.1)
However, my main issue is all of a sudden today when I plugged my iPhone into my computer Windows says that the USB device is not recognized because of a device malfunction.
I have tried several times after rebooting both iPhone and computer. I have also downloaded iTunes 9 (64-bit ver.) again and reinstalled using the "Repair" option from the iTunes installer. I am running the 64-bit version of Win 7 RC (have not had one issue with Win 7 and iTunes yet so I don't think that is the issue).
I have read some other posts saying that they did a restore to the iPhone and that fixed some of their issues. I however am unable to do that because Win and iTunes do not recognize that I have the phone plugged in. Also when the phone is plugged into the computer it does still charge and show that it is plugged in.
The iPhone is not jailbroken. And I used all original cabling for the upgrade etc.

Try restarting AMDS: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

    Hello again, GiannisFromAthens.
At this point, considering that the primary issue is with getting the Windows update resolved, we need to get that taken care of first. To do so you may need to consult Microsoft, or whoever supports the installation of Windows on your computer, for more troubleshooting to resolve it.
Once that is resolved, if you are still experiencing the issue, you may find better information by using another of Apple's Support resources at https://expresslane.apple.com/GetProductGroupList.action for a more hands on response.

  • Trying to charge my shuffle and windows doesn't Recognize it.

I was trying to charge my son's shuffle and windows doesn't Recognize it both of them. I even tryed to charg them in the pluge in. But that does not work eather.

I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

  • Updated to 1.2.2 - Now Windows Doesn't Recognize

Hiya, I've had this 5G 80gb iPod for about a year and this is the first major problem I've encountered.
After updating to 1.2.2 (something I now regret) Windows refuses to recognize my iPod, I've followed all the guidelines and I've even tried to connect it to my laptop to no avail. The Device Manager seems to show a problem with the USB port, but I can use other hardware without any problem, and the iPod won't work on any of my six ports (there's a weird 'negative' sound each time I connect it). I can listen to my music alright, but I can't take or put anything in my iPod if Windows doesn't recognize it.
Could it be a version problem? And in that case, is there a way of reverting the firmware?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi CamBej,
Have a look at this article about windows not recognising iPod,
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
If you want to revert back to version 1.2.1 on your iPod you will have to restore it, version 1.2.2 has been removed as it was causing a lot of problems.

  • HT201274 attempted to download new ios 6 software. wiped out sim card and computer doesn't recognize iphone now. blinking apple icon is only thing I get

Need help with iphone 4. tried to download new software and it zorked sim card and phone. Only get a blinking apple icon. Computer doesn't recognize iphone so I can't restore

    Hello henry lfrommiami,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To troubleshoot this issue where your iPhone gives you the message "No SIM Card installed" please follow the steps below.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Turn airplane mode on and then off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Check for a carrier settings update. Go to Settings > General > About. Install any available update.
Remove the SIM card and make sure that it's a valid SIM that your carrier provided. Also make sure that it's not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
A SIM tray that comes with one iPhone model won't necessarily work with a different iPhone model. When you insert the correct SIM tray, the SIM tray should be flush with the device.
If you have another SIM card, insert it. You can use a SIM card from any phone with the same format as your iPhone SIM card. If your iPhone works with that SIM card, contact the carrier that issued your original SIM card.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still see the issue, contact Apple support.
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone
    Cheers,
    Alex H.

  • After Restoring, my Windows XP machine doesn't recognize iphone

Hi, and thanks in advance for the help.
I recently restored my PC(running windows xp). And after downloading and installing the latest version of itunes. My computer fails to recognize the iphone. I've tried everything I can think of. But here is a list:
-restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service
    -Restarting Itunes
    -restarting the computer
    -Uninstalling Itunes, and Reinstalling it
-plugging the iphone in different usb ports
-Plugging an Ipod classic in the same port(and it worked).
-Downloading the drivers moving them to C:/Windows/Drivers
-Hooking the iphone up to a different computer(and it recognized it
I don't know what to do now. Before I restored the computer it would recognize the iphone with no problem. But i still cannot see why it won't now.

I had a similar problem when I upgraded to iTunes 8.0.2. My problem was that the iPhone driver in Windows XP was somehow corrupted. Uninstall/Reinstall of iTunes did not help, and neither did running "AppleDeviceSupport.msi".
The symptom I had was when I plugged in the iPhone, I would get three short "beeps" from the computer in rapid succession, followed later by two "beeps" that XP makes when disconnecting a USB device, even though I had not disconnected the iPhone.
Before I had this problem, I would get two "beeps" when plugging in the iPhone, indicating that Windows recognized the iPhone, and two "beeps" when disconnecting it.
What finally helped me was the following:
    1. On the Start menu, click Run.
    2. In the Open field, type devmgmt.msc and click OK. A list of devices will be displayed.
    3. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and click the small plus sign to expand this group.
    4. If "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" is listed and the device is working properly (right click on "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver", and select "Properties"), then your driver is OK and you don't have the same problem I was having (Stop here).
    5. If "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" is NOT shown, then plug in the iPhone to the USB port.
    6. On my system, "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" would then appear BRIEFLY with a yellow exclamation point beside it, and then it would go away after 10-20 seconds. If you see the same behavior, then, while "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" is shown, right click on it before it disappears. Then select properties, and then select install device driver (or maybe update device driver - I'm not sure exactly what the choices were when I had the problem)
    7. Windows XP then went searching for the driver, did some magic, and got the driver reinstalled and working properly.
Good luck - hope this helps.

  • Failure to backup while updating 3GS to iOS5 - now iTunes doesn't recognize iPhone!

Hi, I'm trying to update my 3GS to iOS5. Working on a brand-new Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.2. Made sure I had the newest iTunes (10.5), synced my phone, transferre purchases to the computer, backed up manually for good measure. Downloaded the iOS5 update with no problem, and started the update process. Seemed to be going slowly but surely through the "backup" step of the update process. I left for five or ten minutes, and came back to a possible disaster:
    - computer had gone to sleep (guess I could have changed preferences, but I assumed that the update-in-progress would keep the computer awake)
    - iPhone screen shows the "plug USB into iTunes" graphic
    - when I woke up the computer, it showed an error message - upgrade failed. I'm pasting the text from the iPhone Updater Log below... it ends with "Restore Error 2009."
    - iPhone no longer shows up as a device in iTunes (or iPhoto). Tried closing and opening iTunes, disconnecting and reconnecting iPhone from USB port, and moving to second USB port. None of these worked. iPhone screen continues to display the "connect USB to iTunes" graphic. I found some relevant lines in the "all messages" log - pasting those below too.)
Anything I can do, short of bring both computer and phone to the Apple Store? (The phone is past warranty but I have AppleCare for the new computer)
Does the failure to back up mean that there is no previous backup I can get to? Any way to check if there's a working backup on the computer without it recognizing the iPhone?
All my apps, contacts, calendar items, music and photos are on my computer, so at least it seems that my data is not all lost. But the phone-to-computer connection doesn't seem to be coming back. Wonder if restarting computer could get it to recognize iPhone, but afraid of doing any more damage.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks,
    Adam

Image Capture doesn't recognize my iPhone or my Fujifilm camera. I am pretty sure this happened after updating to Safari 4.0.2 and having to restart which I did today. Yesterday I was able to to browse through my devices.

  • Windows does not recognize iPhone

    Hi
After I upgraded my iPhone to iOS8 it won't recognized by pc ( windows 7 , 64 bit ) as portable device . I did every thing to resolve that like update iTunes , update diver , delete some photos , restart pc and iPhone , using troubleshoot , check usb cable , removing programs which I recently installed , check usb port but the problem does not resolved . iTunes recognize iPhone but not pc . I try another pc and there wasn't any problem on that pc . Please tell me what can I do ?
    thanks

So just for reference, the problem has been solved. I don't know what changed, but tonight when I connected my phone, Windows tried to run the "found new hardware wizard." I can't explain why. I hadn't changed any settings since last night when I connected and reconnected my phone at least a dozen times. The only thing I did between then and now was shut down.
Anyhow, when the Wizard started, I remembered a tip I had found here several months ago when I was having a similar problem with my iPod. I directed Windows to search for drivers in C:\WINDOWS\inf. The wizard found whatever it needed in that directory and now my PC recognizes my iPhone as a camera.
Can't explain what changed, but go figure. Thank you Windows for being as inscrutable as ever.

I have tried with three different cables, the last one was a new one, but it never recognized my iPad.
    Can someone help me?
