Windows doesnt boot anymore , amd format gives problems aswell. [K8N Neo2]

hi guys,
i made a thread about this issue in the dutch MSI forums aswell, but the more help the better no?
i'll first start with my system specifications , so we have that out of the way:
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (s939) bios v1.5 (tried 1.B but that didnt solve my problem)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64bit 3500+ (2.2Ghz) (dont know the core , i think it was newcastle)
Geheugen: 2X Crusial BallistiX CL2 PC 3200 512MB (i also have 2x Corsair XMS PC3200 CL2 memory, but i only equipped my computer with the Crusial BallistiX memory atm)
Videocard: Sapphire Radeon X850 XT PE
Power Supply: Enermax 20 / 24pins 32A on the 12V line
well, my problem started about 2 days ago, when i shut down my computer, since the F.E.A.R demo ran a bit laggy ( i had all 4 of my memory modules in my PC then, and i wanted to remove the corsair memory ) once removed i only had the Crusial BallistiX memory in it , in dual channel , slot 1 and 2 (slots closest to CPU) , but once i booted my computer, i got a BSOD just after windows loaded.. something about the ACPI. the STOP number was:
STOP: 0x000000A5(0x00000011,0x00000007,0xF771F180,0x0100000E)
then i putted my corsair memory back in, but then i still got this BSOD.. and it said something about the BIOS, so i updated my bios to 1.B , but that didn't help a bit, so i donwgraded my bios again to v1.5 , hich i have now. i only have the crusial ballitix installed atm, which runs stable according to memtest (ran it for 14 hours, then i stopped it) with this timing: 2.5-2-2-5 1T  (Cas latency 2 just wont run stable)
so my memory is OK i suppose.. and wlel, i couldnt get into windows, so as a final solution, i decided to format the harddrive, so i entered my WindowsXP CD , and it began loading the drivers (and i pushed F6 , and loaded the S-ATA / Raid Drivers ) , but straight after it loaded the things of the CD i get:
- a BSOD , with something about the ACPI
- reboot
- flashing underscore in the upper left courner..
so i cant really do anything , except get into the BIOS. i also tried to start windows in safe mode, but then i get a message similar to this:
'Cannot start windows , because the following file is damaged or missing:'
<windows-mainfolder>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
so i first thought about a virus, but that seems kinda odd , since i run a virus scan everyday (my virusscanner is NOD32) , and i think a virus with such destructive power will be detected..
another number from a BSOD (i get this one most of the times now) is this:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x804F35C1,0xF7C45F10,0xF7C45C10)
hopefully you guys have an idea what to do, and as a final solution, i am willing to afford a new harddrive, but will that solve my problem? or is something else causing this problem?
Yordy_
(sorry for my bad english, i'm dutch  )
*edit*
something i forgot to mention, is that sometimes when i enter the BIOS , it just freezes ( i cannot do anything.. )

Quote
Try another CmosClear like mentioned before for the DMI-Pool and PNP Area to reinitialise.
didnt really get that, but i removed the CMOS battery , and placed it back in again , but that didnt help, and by the way, my problem got worse :(
i didnt do anything really.. just trying to start my computer .. but i can currently do this:
1. Press power on button
2. watch screen
3. press power button to shutdown
and that is as good as it gets :(
it sais to press del to get into the BIOS,but no matter what i press, it doesnt matter.. it then goes to the post screen, and displays this message:
CMOS Checksum failed! Loading defaults
something like that.. and here the system is totally frozen so i have to power off / reboot
and before hat message i cannot push a button!
I dont think my motherboard can be rescued can it?

  • IBook doesnt boot anymore

    Servus alltogether,
I really have a BIG problem with my iBook here. I've installed the Screen Spanning Doctor in order to activate a second screen, and my iBook doesnt boot anymore. It gets to the point with the grey apple and the wheel, and then (using apple+v) there seems to be a problem by loading a file called dyld
    dyld:library not loaded: usr/lib/libz.1.dylb
    etc/rx line 262 55 trace / BPT trap couldnt find root user usr/sbin /update
I tried to reset nvram in open firmware without any sucess. I can log on in single user mode, but i dont know what i can do now from there.
It would be also very helpfun if soneone could tell me how to mount a external hard drive (I have a Lacie hard drive, perhaps I can rescue my data. Its still there, I checked it in single user mode.) or a usb-stick.
Perhaps it is also helpful when I tell you this: It is a G4 ibook, using the newest patch of mac os x tiger, and my graphic chip is a ati readon 9200 (which should work with the screen spanning doctor but apparently didnt).
I am really in trouble here, because I need this iBook for university. So please help me if you can.

Try starting up from a CD (Apple-C) or in safe mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
Either of these methods should get your booted. Then, back up your data! Next, try Disk Utility to fix your disk. You may have to reinstall the OS. Luckily, you have that backup now.

  • Windows 7/Boot Camp/SSD SATA3 install problems

    Hi there,
I just registered to this community having bought a MacBook Pro 17" on Friday. The aim was to immediately upgrade the stock 5400 rpm drive with 120 GB SSD SATA 3 drive.  I installed a brand-new Corsair Force Series 3 120gb SSD but that drive was not even recognized by the Install DVD disk utilities. So I gave up on that one. I then tried an OCZ Vertex 3 and that was recognised immediately. I managed to install Snow Leopard no problems. The problem came when I tried to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp. It's important that I can have access to Windows 7 more than OS X at the moment as I am mainly a Windows user. 12 hours later I still hadn't managed to install Windows 7 after numerous attempts. The various problems included Windows 7 unable to format the drive. Also when I did manage to install Windows 7 it never quite completed the install or would freeze on the starting Windows screen. I managed to get into the Windows 7 installation a couple of times but then the whole shebang would freeze when I tried to install the Boot Camp drivers. Upon rebooting I would not be able to boot back into the Windows partition again. I was rapidly losing the will to live. So I gave up on the OCZ SSD drive as well.
This morning as a last resort I installed an older Corsair Force Series 2 SSD 60 GB drive as an experiment. It was recognized immediately by the disk utilities unlike the Series 3 version and I managed to install Snow Leopard and Windows 7 via Boot Camp with zero problems. So it all up and running. Obviously the hard drive is much smaller than I wanted. But it proves one thing and that is that support of popular brands of SSD SATA 3 drives in the MacBook Pro 17" version is flaky to say the least and on the tests I did using two of these drives it was impossible to install Windows 7 using Boot Camp.
If anyone else has experienced similar problems I'll be interested to hear.
    Regards
    Kraznet

Oh yes, there are two flaky things to contend with here: the Corsair Force 3 120GB has had recall. I also have found the older 120GB didn't work properly on some motherboards and with older BIOS and Intel drivers.
    Questions:
This is hopefully not an electronic EDU/MSDN ISO of Windows that you burned wtih Apple Disk Utility?
primary Windows - forget Boot Camp Assistant - just boot from OS X DVD and change the SSD to Windows MBR partition table and FAT and then format in Windows. Me, I would have bought Windows 7 SP1 64-bit System Builder.
From a hardware review reposted to Amazon:
The Corsair Force Series 3 SSDs were announced just a few weeks ago - boasting SandForce SF-2281 controllers and a very aggressive price point. Just days after the first units started shipping, Corsair has issued a recall of the 120GB Force Series 3 SSDs. According to Corsair, the 120GB model is seeing, "a significant percentage of these drive do not operate to specification." What the failure is exactly isn't clear, Corsair is quick to deflect blame from their partners, simply stating that both hardware and firmware need to be fixed.
Buyers of the Force Series 3 SSD in the 120GB capacity can return the drive to Corsair for exchange - retailers are also accepting returns. The 60GB and 240GB models are not affected. For more information on how to exchange a defective drive, visit this thread [...] in the Corsair support forums.
I'm surprised anyone is selling the Force 3 120GB (though it is on Newegg it is not on Amazon since it was pulled)

  • SATA RAID problem on K8N Neo2 Platinum (nForce3 ultra) & winXP x64

I entered on MSI driver dowload page, put my model, and i found out that the RAID driver for win x64 wasn't released (nforce3 ultra), but in the same page was the driver for the nforce4, so I supposed it was compatible. I made the driver disk. press F6 and he askme for the drivers, ok, i introduce BOTH drivers, he detects perefctly the SATA RAID (stripping) format the disk, copy the files and ask me for some .CATof teh raid driver that wasn't on the zip file.... omit files, reboots, completes the instalation, but on the first boot of win x64 when it's just about to show the windows screen, a bue windows, and resets the pc so fast that's unreadable.  fail safe start.. same crash.
I Installed win on an IDE and it run prefectly... In th other hand... without installing any driver the windows instalation recognices the SATA drives, but not the RAID. Maybe I just got to install the raid driver but not the SATA driver... the nforce3 driver form nvidia.com is pretty old... The real funny is that when i installed winXp x64 BETA i hadn' any problem... (winXP 64 doesn't admit the 32 bit driver=
Which driver i'm supposed to install? to INSTALL winxp64 on a SATA RAID and make it boot from there?
    Thaks a lot

HI! i'm the one wih the raid problem on a k8n neo2....
That's what a i Did.. i unpacked the exe and copy the files in a floppy... question is: if i do that, windows instaler askme for some files that aren't in the .exe, anway it reconices the raid and everithing goes fine until the first BOOT on windos... it shows a blue screen, butremoves it so fast that i cant read it or pause the system. But i know it's a raid problem because if i install it on a ide disk it works.
The nforce3 drivers are almost a year old, and i'm not sure if nforce4 is compatible...
I think the're compatible because if you enter in msi driver download page and select my model, they put the Nforce3 and nforce4 for win64 and my model is only nforce3. The thing is they havent released the nforce3 for WIN 64.... So.. It's normal that win asks me for some files that ain't in the .zip file (i extracted the files o course) and Which driver should i put the Nvidia one year old nforce3 or the new nforce4. (the nforce3 for 32 bits is rejected by windows) or... i have to wait the new nforce3?
    thanks for helps

  • News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

    Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
    the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
    1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks,
    Alberto

    Hi thanks for the answers.
I do have a D-Bracket, but my problem is not that the system does not boot or does not post... my system DOES NOT POWER ON (!!!!), so d-bracket is useless!
When I plug the system power    the only thing that happens is that the power led starts blinking (with the system still in soft-off), and if I press the power switch button nothing happens!
I've the bios for 7025 v1.8 and the settings where for OFF on power-loss ond pressing the button (can't rememeber if it was more than 4 sec) was meant to turn off the computer, but considering that I un-powered the pc more than once without the MB battery the settings should be factory default by now.
I went through the Windows-XP shut-down system, and i could not be an electrical problem as I always used the PC with a pretty good UPS unit.
Right now these are the full specs of my sytem:
    - MB MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    - GAINWARD 6800 2600 GLH 256 MB Ram
    - PSU Antec TruPower 550 W
    - CPU AMD64 3500+ core Winchester @11*210 Mhz (this cpu has never overclocked very well)
    - HEATSINK Thermalright XP-90 with a 12 Cm Enermax Fan (CPU temp in always below 55 °C when stressed)
    - 1 x 512 Mb RAM Crucial Ballistix DDR400 optimized for  MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.
    Again...
Thanks for you efforts, any help will be appreciated.
    Alberto.
All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD,  just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ?  I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping  reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.
    Good Luck

  • Cool and Quiet problem on K8N Neo2 Platinum v1.3 bios

    Hello
I have a problem with the Cool and Quiet feature on the K8N Neo2 Platinum (v1.3 bios).
As soon and I boot the Core Center v1.7.0.0 will instantly overclock my A64 3500+ CPU to 3000+ Mhz.  Of course this reboots my PC.
I have Cool and Quiet enabled in the bios, Automatic overclocking disabled in the bios and the Core Center softwares overclocking is (well it was) disabled?  How can I install it or get it to stop overclocking the system.
I want to run the Core Center to enable the Cool and Quiet fan controlling stuff.
    Thanks

Strange that Corecenter would overclock your cpu to 3ghz. It's known to be unreliable software, but not that unreliable.
Are you running a stock 3500+, or are you overclocking the HTT/FSB beyond 200?
Previous posted was right about cool and quiet software. You don't need corecenter to run it. Just stay away from corecenter and even uninstall it
Cool and quiet software (a device driver that you download from AMD, or that comes pre-installed with XP SP2) simply works as follows. It introduces the notion of several p-states (processor states) that it switches between based on its reading of cpu load. A p-state is a pairing of cpu voltage and cpu multiplier.  On my 3200+ newcastle, the p-states are:
    1.5V, 11x
    1.4V, 10x
    1.3V, 9x
    1.1V, 5x
Your 3500+ might be similar. Anyway, just run cpu-z instead of corecenter to watch your cpu speed changing on the fly.
As far as fan speeds go: the cool and quiet driver doesn't affect fan speeds.  That means to get the "quiet" part of "cool and quiet" you need either
    (a) a fan that has a temperature sensor and which automatically changes its speed based on that, or
    (b) just use the motherboard BIOS setting to do the same via bios software.
    (c) use speedfan to do the same via windows software.
I myself prefer (b) but it depends on the bios accurately reporting temperature, which can vary wildly between bios releases (e.g. newcastles didn't start getting accurate temp reports until bios 1.4).

  • Dual DDR problem with K8N Neo2 Platinium.

    Hi all,
    I have a new K8N Neo2 Platinium since last week. My configuration is : AMD 64 Venice 3000+, 2 x 256 MB Kingston Value RAM (KVR400X64C25/256) 160GB Seagate SATA, MSI FX5700 VTD 256MB etc...
The problem is I cannot work them in dual DDR mode! But they works in single mode very good. I know that my RAM pairs are not in vendor list! But I love my RAMs..They are CL2.5 and I think they are valuable...
    So what can I do?

Deathstalker , lots of value kinston ram is qualified .
Just take a look at NF4 testreport:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/testreport_pdf/7125/memory.pdf
And what you say about value ram vs non jedec spec OC ram is often quite the opposite as valueram follows the jedec spec
and is a more "hit" than miss with most motherboards contra what OC ram is .
Dxvideo , make sure you use memory slot 1+2 as said, also try booting to bios with one stick and save cas as 3.0
then install second module . Se if it helps with looser cas value .They also follow jedec SSTL 2.5v standard
but is verified by vendor -/+ 0.25v so you can also set voltage manually to 2.6v (or more) to help them out .
If it worked in dual chl on NF2 doesn't neccesary mean they will on A64 system as this memory controller is more picky than
the external memory controller on NF2 boards.

  • Weird start up problem with K8N Neo2

    Hello all,
I'm hoping SOMEONE can help me with a very annoying and very perplexing problem with my Neo2. I've read quite a few posts and can't seem to find anything similar to my problem.
Ever since the first time I booted my setup I've gotten this problem where when I power up my PC all the fans start up and the HD starts to spin up as well, but then it makes this click, spins down, then spins back up, clicks, spins down... and well, you get the picture.  It keeps doing this until I power off the PC.
The first time this happened I thought the HD had died, especially since I heard a lot of people where having sudden deaths of their Deskstars. So I hooked up another HD I had lying around, but, same problem. So at least I knew the HD was not the problem, and here I was starting to think about how an excellent excuse this was to get a new WD Raptor, LOL!
After fiddling around with the connectors, the cables, the CPU and the memory, I made this last ditch effort to clear the CMOS. Well, low and behold, the damn thing booted up fine. I thought, oh well, sometimes the most obvious solutions are the ones that you never think about. So I install everything and turn it off. Next morning I wake up, turn on the PC, and the hard drive spins up, clicks, spins down, spins back up, clicks and I start to cry.
Well, for the past few days, whenever I want to use my PC I have to clear the CMOS to get it to boot. Stangely enough it works just fine if I don't power it down and after some grueling Doom 3 sessions.
Im thinking it might be a bad CMOS battery, but then it would still boot and it would just loose the settings, right? Or maybe I have a bad CMOS? Or is the board just plain defective?
I'll appreciate any help and insight you guys can give.

    Sounds like you are shorted out on a standoff or something. You may want to pull the motherboard and start fresh. Here is some good reading material at this point;

  • Problem with K8N Neo2

    Hello,
I am having problems with my new MB.  I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum ms-7025 and when I go into BIOS it will lock up when I enter the HT Frequency area.  I have Crucial Ballistix Memory and am trying to get more than 200fsb.
I have built several other systems and haven't had problems with overclocking before.
I am using a SATA in SATA 1, with an ATI Radeon 9500, 1 gig of Crucial Ballistix memory, an Antec slk 3700bke with 350 watt P/S.

    Thanks,
Between this and moving my SATA to 3 I was able to get the system to 233fsb and it posts at 260 fsb.
It locks up during Memtest86 at 260.  I'm not sure if it's PowerSupply or Heat, so next on my list of things to do is a new 500+ watt PS and replacing the AMD heatsink.

    Hello everyone
Recently I had 2*512mo of PC3200 ( double side ),  they hold all approximately 235mhz has 2.5/3/3/8 1T (tested separately)
But, when I puts them into dual they are stable under memtest always with 235 2.5/3/3/8 1T but are unstable under Windows,  under xp they are stable until 207mhz maximum whereas they hold much higher under memtest
If I want to be stable A 235mhz under Windows it is necessary that I put them in 2T but y' has an enormous loss of perf
I tested different bios (1.37mod, 1.4 official, 1.41mod, 1.5 official, 1.8r3mod, 1.9 official and 1.B4mod) and always the same problem I also tested on port 1 and 3 (near to the CPU) and 2 and 4 but there it is still worse

  • FSB Frequency Problems on K8N Neo2 Platinum

I am using the K8N Neo2 Platinum with Newcastle 3500 and 2x512 Kingmax Hardcore ram, and I stumbled across a problem.
Whenever I try to set the frequency above 225 Mhz, something freezes during boot-up.. I tryed setting the HT at 4x, CPU mul. at x9 and FSB at 250Mhz, but I cant boot, I get a message... something like Disk Read Error, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart. My HDD is SATA Maxtor 120GB.  This is really driving me crazy, plz help.

My K8N Neo2 never liked Kingmax hardcore RAM - they gave all sorts of instability, errors and boot up problems.
They also gave errors in memtest86, even though they work fine with no errors in a P4 system later on.
I had to replace them and after that things worked fine.
You also may have to repair your windowsinstallation and try some other RAM.
Does not hurt giving RAM some extra voltage as well.
When your system is stable - you might want to update bios for best hardware support.
Syar´s EasyBios 7025CU2.1C3 is a good version and it sets 2.75v at default which would be enough for most RAM to boot fine and run stable.

  • Occasional Boot up problems, with K8N Neo2 Plat.

    Hey everyone,
I've had this setup for a couple weeks now and I'm still experiencing random problems booting up. I thought I had concluded that it was fast writes issue, however the other day it did it again.
What happens is while loading winxp.. right before it's going to actually get into windows it just hangs. Now sometimes I can just hit the reset button and then the next time around I will get the safe mode menu and if I select normal boot it will boot up fine this time. Any ideas? I'm using the latest 1.4 bios, and tried both the latest nforce drivers from nvidia's site and those beta 6 ones that are floating around.
The system works perfect aside from this issue, once I'm in windows it's rock solid.  Any help would be appreciated! Thanks..

It may be worth a look but it was dexterryu talk of instability
    Quote
When I even try to install windows when the drive is on Sata 3 or 4 the pre-install hangs after loading the Nforce driver
That made me suggest looking at memory as well.
Other than booting you say your system seems stable.
Have a look hereCorsair Memory Identify your memory & see if there's a * next to it, if there is then Quote
    * These parts support 2-3-3-6 latency on Intel platforms, and 2.5-3-3-6 latency on AMD platforms
applies. Don't think it does in your case be best if you confirm it yourself.
Your issue seems to be more about windows trying to detect your raid.
It wouldn't do any harm to slacken your memory timings to see if it makes any diff.
but I think in the longer run you would get better results with the updated Raid Bios & Updated Raid Drivers . See Beta Bios & Drivers

Guys this might be solution: Turn off your laptop. Disconnect all devices connected to the PC. Remove battery and disconnect from wall. Press the power button at least 20 seconds. Connect back battery and turn on your PC. It should be fixed by now, I did with my Pavilion 14, and both sleep and turning off problems were fixed.re:  Black Screen and Dead keyboard after locking computer. I tried this with my Envy 17t-3200 3D CTO.  Didn't help.  for this computer this means removing the back cover and unplugging the battery wiring harness form the Motherboard. I currently have sleep mode disabled when on AC and am still getting the black screen, dead keyboard lockup.  I really know I'm hosed since even the caps-lock is non-functional. I see this problem more when I'm at work were I tend to Win-L lock the screen when I walk away from my desk.  Seems like locking the computer then letting the screen blank is doing something evil. After I force a reboot, by keyboard backlight forgets it's setitngs and returns to full brightness. If I lock the screen then bring back the computer before the screen is blanked, it seems fine. I don't think there's any way to adjust the screen blanking when the lock screen is up (even my desktop power-saves the monitors after a few minutes on the Lock screen). I'm not sure it's HP or MS that should be looking into this.  My computer is about 3 years old so I can't pester HP with warranty requests. I'm not sure how prevelant this problem is. Are all Pavellions and Envy's having the problem?  Mine has Radeon graphics which was a bit unusual at the time.  I have to install the HP Display driver before any AMD updates or the screen dimming doesn't work (at least with win 7 and 8). Dave.
