Windows don't close after using flash

When viewing certain flash videos I am unable to close down firefox or any of its windows. When trying to save an image and pressing the save button it doesn't save it or close the browse window that is open.
Same when trying to clear the cache the window doesn't close and the files are not deleted. The only way I have found to close firefox is through ending its process in Task manager.

I grasp you are trying to recover your notebook back to factory.
Following the steps in the first link at Step 6 it states after reinstalling the drive to boot to a Windows CD and do a repair.  Did you do that step?
I suggest you contact HP support and inquire about obtaining a recovery kit for your notebook and then do the recovery from them.

  • Send message windows doesn't close after sending attached PDF from Acrobat

    I have several forms that I have created in Acrobat 9 Pro. These forms have a button set to submit to an email address. After filling out the form, and clicking on the submit button some, but not all, of users with Outlook 2007 are having a problem with the send message window not closing after sending the email.
    When they click the button the email is created with the form as an attachment. When they click the send button in the send message window the message goes into the outbox, and then gets sent no problems. But the send message window never closes after sending the message. So my users think the message never got sent.
    The computers that I am seeing this on all run XP, have Outlook 2007, and use Acrobat Standard 8. On some computers it works just fine, and on others it has the problem. It must be a setting somewhere but I can not figure it out.
    Closing the window by clicking on the "X" is no problem, but many of my users are pretty new to computers know very little about them. So something like this causes them a lot of problems.
    Any suggestions?

    My apologies, when I said "instance" I meant window.
    I also just realized the new window and then closing behavior only happens when the iTunes link clicked is in an email in Mail (presumably, this would also happen in other desktop email clients). When an iTunes link in Safari is clicked, the "iTunes loading" white page appears for a moment and then Safari navigates back to the page with the link. However, that isn't working properly, either. The white page continues to "load" indefinitely and never returns to the previous page.

  • Black screen after using flash player 3 or 4 times

    Hi!
    I've had this problem for a long time: After having played three or four videos using flash player for example, my screen turns completely black and I have to force a shut down of my PC. With how much flash is still used in browsers, this is extremely annoying and a waste of my time.

    I updated my flash player and my graphic driver and the problem still occurs. I also turned of the hardware acceleration as stated in the following article: Video playback issues but it remains the same.
    I registered this as a bug: Bug#3863932 - Video playback issues but I am uncertain whether this will actually be solved sooner there or here on the forums... So I've decided to try both.
    Please help!

    Yeah, that was always the problem: Hardly anyone CAN reproduce it. I've checked my hardware and drivers though and I've re-installed windows completely just because of this bug, thinking it might be some virus or sth, but nothing like that helped.
    And so far, I couldn't find any steps to reproduce, or anyone who also has this problem.
    I had my brother, who has a masters degree in computer sciences, try it out and he didn't know any solution or any reason either. :I You can just tell me if this is hopeless, I won't be mad, but really, a video would just show you exactly what I told you.
    There's nothing else to it. No mysterious thing I'm doing wrong. I wish it was something like that, honest
    Also, it doesn't happen with specific youtube videos. I tried mixing up the order of the videos and it happened again, after starting the 3rd or 4th video (also happens when facebook had this automatically-starting-videos-thing, which was especially fun, as you can imagine, so it's not website-specific either, sadly)..

  • Squeeze don't close after successful extraction

    Hey guys,
    since xarchiver was moved from [extra] to the AUR and is unmaintained for quiet a time, I wanted to start using its successor Squeeze. Unfortunately there is no package in the repos (last stable release was 4 years ago), so i build the Git-version from the AUR which seems to be pretty up-to-date. After moving the tap file to the right place, i can use it with the thunar-archive-plugin flawless. Except that the extract popup don't disappear after squeeze sucessfully finished the extraction. I tested with different archive formats (zip, tar.gz, rar), happens at all. I need to use the Cancel button twice (!) to make it dissapear, the extratced files remain. When opening the archives with Squeeze directly und extract them, there is no such error. I assume the error within the fuctions, thunar will call on squeeze.
    I will test this on my other machine as well. Does anyone have any idea, what cause this behaviour? Or how I can fix it? Maybe a bug that need to be reported?

    You need to close the reference to excel after your ActiveX calls. Be aware that if you have the Error in of the Close Reference VI connected, the excel instance will not be closed if an error is passed to the close Reference.

  • Bring window back to focus after using "command-m"

    when i press "command-m" it minimizes any given window to the stack area(dont know if its called that) but when i "command-tab" and select the window i just minimized in an effort to bring it up again, it doesn't(the menu bar changes but i cant see the window itself). Which keyboard combos need i press to bring the window back on focus again?

    Command-Tab cycles between applications, not documents in applications.
    While command-tabbing, press the down arrow when the particular application is highlighted and you can see its windows.
    Also, you can use Exposé to show all application windows. Mine is F10, but it may be different on your computer. Check the Exposé preferences in the System Preferences.

  • Acrobat X 10.1.2 won't close after using preflight

    Since the update to version 10.1.2 I have a problem with Acrobat X. After having used the preflight function (Tools - Print Production - Preflight) I cannot close the program anymore. I have to do a Control Alt Delete to force the program to quit. Everything is just fine as long as you don't use the Preflight function. I didn't have this problem on previous versions of Acrobat Pro.
    I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, Adobe master collection 5.5. The problem occurs on my desktop system as well as on my Sony Vaio notebook.

  • Quicktime freezes everytime I open it. Windows don't close. How do I fix this?

    Quicktime freezes everytime I open it. Windows with previously watched videos keep opening. When I close them, and when the only one I wish to watch is left, it freezes and I have to force quit. A window of that video is then added to the many that open upon starting up next time.

    Here's a few things I try when an app misbehaves and crashes.
    1. Quit the app and restart it like this: Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it work like normal.
    2. If the first suggestion did not work try quitting the app again but instead of restarting it right away, reset your device like this: Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. Ten restart the app and see if it works.
    3. If neither of the previous suggestions worked I suggest deleting the app by tapping and holding on the app until it jiggles and displays a Rex X. Tap the X and confirm that you want to delete the app. Then reset your device. After the device has restarted go to the App Store and download Facebook again.
    If all these fail you might just have to search for an alternative app until Facebook fixes the problem.

  • After using Flash, I can't type in Konqueror

    I finally got flash working after it was only playing video with no sound, but the problem described in the title has not gone away. Basically, I will watch a youtube video, and at some point during the video, I wont be able to type anything in konqueror. I can type in a different window of konqueror, just not the window that had the flash playing in it. I can reproduce this about 50% of the time. I wish I could give more details. Any one else experiencing this?
    Edit: Switched to firefox and opera, so this is is less of an issue. However if someone else is experiencing this problem I can try to work it out if someone helps.

    I have the problem sometimes of exiting a page with flash playing, and the flash process still continuing to run causing all sorts of lag. I've never found the root cause of the issue, except to just kill the process manually when it happens. Next time it happens try running 'ps ax | grep libflashplayer.so' to print a list of all processes with flash running. You could also use something like top or htop to see an interactive process list to better pick out which particular process is causing the input lock.

    Hi. I have a Pavilion dv7 6195-US bought 3 years ago. 
    I have 2 HDD x 500GB.
    There was also a partition with the system restore to factory OS, but I don't remember what I've done and didn't recognized by HP Recovery Manager, anyway, the information is safe...I mean "base.wim".
    For some reasons, I had to formatted and reinstall the windows.
    I backup all my information from my laptop. INCLUDING the image factory: base.wim and the I try to reinstall my windows.
    For this point I found 2 ways on the internet: 
    1: there are 6 steps ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/Another-System-Restore-question... ) but instead of connecting my hard to another PC, I use the second of my HDD to install a random win7 and to do the 6 steps. I do the exact what is there, BUT after the step 6 and restart my laptop... basically it's stop at the point with "starting Windows and Logo"... If I remember for the first time when I opened, it supose to appear a welcome screen after that...but nothing... just freeze image. 
    Anyway, I don't know WHY or WHAT I got wrong... I try another way:

    Later edit: I don't remember wich of this 2 ways I try, but after restart seems to work until a grey background appear, ans a cmd start with "startnet.cmd"...then a text 2 seconds, but then restart... and that's it... seems like a problem of restoring windows to factory?

  • Messed up Windows 8.1 install after using Boot Camp 4 drivers

    Hey guys, I just finished successfully installing Windows 8.1 on my Mac with Lion. There were no issues there, but I royally screwed up the Windows partition after trying to install the Boot Camp support software from a USB flash drive. I didn't look into it enough and am now realizing (after the fact of course) that I needed Boot Camp 5.1 for support for Windows 8.1!
    I realized that something was wrong when I tried to install the drivers and software from my Boot Camp 4.0.4 and I received a prompt on Windows telling me that it expected Windows 7 instead and then asked me to run in compatibility mode to see if that works. I stupidly clicked yes and then my Windows locked the screen on me. So of course, I unlocked it and the display is all messed up with my battery indicator at the top left, most of the screen is black and a small portion on the right side is not black. It instantly locks itself again. I can only repeat the process with no way to correct it (that I know of).
    Is this install of Windows 8.1 salvageable? I am getting the new drivers from Boot Camp 5.1 now, but it won't help if I can't even get to the desktop for Windows. Help!

    Right - this would be the easiest thing to do. Will I have issues the Windows license being activated again? I have actually never had to reinstall before so I have never had license issues.

  • Can't remove PC-DOS from Windows 7 Boot menu after using PC-Doctor for DOS Bootable CD

    I have a T60, Win 7 Pro
    I had some issues and tried the PC-Doctor for Dos bootable CD to run some diagnostics. Since then, upon bootup, I have a PC-DOS option in my boot menu that just won't go away.
    Using EasyBSD, the only os supposed to be in the bootloader menu is Win 7, yet, everytime I boot up, I get the boot menu. 
    I even tried using bcdedit to sstop displaying the boot menu but it still appears (for a split second).
    Looking for some help in steps to remove the PC-DOS option from my windows 7 boot menu.

    I have tried something like that with ZenWalk (Slackware- based distro) and it worked for me on my  Lenovo b305 with ATI 5450, no problems like that. Not sure about how Ubuntu will deal with these AIO systems. But I have a feeling that it is not your HD or booting, sounds like a video problem. ATI and Linux don't get on well.
    Can you see the console y Alt +F1? perhaps you have to reconfigure Xorg manually. 
    My advice is to ask in Ubuntu forums they might have better ideas. ATI 5??? line is still "new"  for Linux and  the open drivers need time to work properly.
    Also keep in mind IdeaCentre was not build for Linux...Issues like this might happen also post install.

  • Why does "grab" close after use

    If I launch the Grab application, use it to grab a screenshot, save the screenshot and then move away, say to Safari to get another screen on which I want to use Grab, when I return to Grab, it has closed.  I then have to relaunch it.  Why???  I never asked it to close...  Never said "quit"... 
    I know it didn't always work this way although it's been this way for a while now.  Is this a bug??  Or intentional???

    I did what you suggested with Activity Monitor...  Yes, even though the application appears to quit, the Grab process is still running in the Activity Monitor even though it shows as a closed app in the Dock.  And more to the practical point, when I now use <command><tab> (whatever that's called) to move through the available, running apps, Grab is not there... 
    It's not a big deal but I know it wasn't always that way...  I use Grab a lot and I've been curious about why this changed for quite some time now...  Maybe it changed when Mountain Lion came along???  I don't recall...  It's certainly been a while...  I just now got curious enough to wonder why it changed...
