Windows don't recognize itunes anymore

windows does not recognize itunes anymore say to uninstall and then reinstall, will i lose all my songs

Hi there kevindstrait!
I have an article that can help guide you through the uninstallation and reinstallation process of iTunes on your Windows PC:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
As it says in the article:
While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up.
Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

Braden

  • My iPhone is not recognized by my Windows Vista or by iTunes anymore!

Hello all!  I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can offer that would point me in the right direction.
I have an iPhone 4 (AT&T) that works fine.  I have a Gateway Fx MS2252 P-7805U laptop operating Windows Vista Home Premium at 64-bit.  I used to be able to plug my phone into my computer to sync it, but this past may my laptop caught a virus and crashed... I took it to a mom-and-pop computer repair place and they backed up my info and completely reinstalled all of Windows.
The problem is that now my computer is not working properly with my iPhone.  Here are the symptoms:
I plug in my iPhone and I get three short beeps, and it does not appear under My Computer or iTunes.
I uninstalled the Apple Mobile Device Manager driver and then plugged my phone back in so that it would re-install, but the install is always unsuccessful.
I plugged my iPhone into a different PC with iTunes and it works properly (as well as my USB chord)--so I know the problem is in my own computer.
Also, the version of Windows they gave me won't update.
I cannot update any of the drivers in Windows--when I try to update any drivers through the Device Manager, it just says that I have the most up-to-date driver.
No matter how many times I uninstall/reinstall iTunes, I keep getting an error message saying "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."  I've uninstalled any other CD burning software on my computer, but that does not solve the problem.
So all I can narrow it down to is perhaps something with the driver or registry.  I'd really rather not uninstall/reinstall Windows if it's possible to get around that...
Can anyone offer me some insight?  Or point me in the right direction? I would GREATLY appreciate any help! Thank you .

  • Windows don't recognizes my DVD drive

If I insert a disc nothing happens.
When I open Device Manager and look at the Root, the DVD/CD driver is installed. In a subfolder (marked with a yellow triangle) it said:
Device status: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corruped or missing (Code 39).
How can I solve this problem. It worked before.

Is it easy to install the driver or do I have to re-install Windows? If I have to reinstall the driver from the CD I can't do it cause it doens't recognize it.

  • TS3299 opticals drive disappeared in my Windows 8 computer.   After  1-1/2 on the phone this was corrected but now my Itunes don't  recognize the drive.  Error message stating registry errors.  I tried   running in windows 7 compatibility mode that don't

Purchased a new Ipad for my wife and integrated it with my windows 7 system and Itunes and made it through.  Was able to sync and bring pictures, contacts and bookmarks over.  Not to say it was easy because I never used any Apple product except my Ipad and Itunes.  Really enjoyed using the Ipad and was thinking of getting a new Iphone this week being my contract is up.
Then the trouble began I bought a new windows 8 system after having trouble with my old hard drive.  I have finances and Tax programs I use that I thought would be easier to continue using windows rather than trying integrating past years Quicken & Turbo Tax information into a new Apple system.
Well now I'm sorry I bought the new windows 8 system.  First all my optical drives disappeared when installing itunes.  After spending 1-1/2 on the phone with a service rep and finally was able to see my optical drive I thought everything was OK.  Then more trouble.  When I open Itunes I receive an error message that says my Itunes no longer recognizes my optical drive try reinstalling.  I reinstalled 10 times and tried compatibility mode and the end result is my Itunes no longer could burn Cd's.  I had this problem if I'm not mistaken in the past with ME system back many years ago.  And did not want to go through this again but here I am disgusted once again.

I finally got my nano working (no thanks to Apple, hmpf!) and it's running fine with 1.0.2 now. For those with similiar problems try this:
    +For Mac, you need to:+
+1. Downgrade to firmware 1.0.1 by deleting the files iPod_26.1.0.2.ipsw and iPod_26.1.0.2.ipsw.signature (are in the folder iPod software updates somewhere on the harddisk)+
+2. under Settings in iTunes you have to disable automatic download of updates, then restart iTunes.+
+3. Enter Disc Mode by holding menu & select for about ten seconds, then pressing play/pause & select for another ten seconds.+
+4. reconnect your nano to Reset, and when iTunes prompts to update, just don't allow it to look for updates and then reset with fw 1.0.1.+
I'm supriced Apple support didn't tell me about this? This worked great and is a very fast fix. I can't believe Apple got me to reinstall the whole OS, which didn't even solve it btw. USB 1, blah! Yeah right..

  • I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells  me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

I can not burn a CD with my itunes anymore. It tells me to re download itunes. I have done that and still have the same problem. When I do try, Missing disc recorder keeps coming up. Please help!!!!

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • ITunes and my Mac don't recognize my iPod Nano (6th generation) under devices?

iTunes and my Mac don't recognize my iPod Nano (6th generation) under devices? I have tried rebooting/resetting and reinstalling iTunes already. I have also checked the ports and cables, what can be done?

    Try here.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Could be your security software and firewall preventing iTunes from recognizing your iPod.
    Disable antivirus software
Turn Windows Firewall on or off

My computer (PC) will not recognize my ipod touch anymore. When I plug it in, it says the USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. I have tried attaching the same cord and ipod to a different computer and it is recognized by our mac. I have tried restarting the ipod, downloading all updates on my pc, restarting the pc, etc. Nothing has worked. Please advise.

  • Updated my Windows 8 and updated Itunes to newest versions and now my Ipod 7th Generation Nano is not recognized on my computer or Itunes anymore. I have went thru all steps instructed and offered here so what else can I do?

Recently have updated my Windows 8 and updated Itunes to mose recent version available. My Ipod 7th Generation Nano worked, connected and synced without difficulty prior to this updating, Now when I plug into my computer it will pop up Itunes but say that this Ipod is not recognized. I have done multiple steps offered to try and nothing has worked. Any other suggestions would be helpful. I just got this Ipod for Christmas and now can't even use it to sync content anymore.

Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

  • HT1926 Why does Itunes installed on a Toshiba Satelite with windows 8 not recognize my Ipone or Ipad?

Why does Itunes installed on a Toshiba Satelite with windows 8 not recognize my Iphone or Ipad?

It's possible that charger damaged some part of the connection on the iPad. There's little metal contacts on that small silicon chip sticking out of the port and if something happens to one of those little contacts it can effect how it works.
You can try taking it into an apple store and have them look at it. If you'd only used 'official' stuff there'd probably be no question but once they know that the damage, potential damage, was caused by a third party device, then it may be up to the discretion of the manager what they do with it. Whether they replace it under warranty or decide that the warranty is void (I honestly don't know how strict they can be with the use of third party devices and how they may/may not work)

  • Pc don't recognize my ipod touch 4 in windows explorer

my pc don't recognize my new ipod touch 4 in the windows explorer it asks for drivers when i plug in my ipod touch but itunes recognize it i have read in the internet that the ipod appear in windows explorer so i can copy photos to my pc what caan i do to fix it ?

If the photos were synced to the iPod from the Mac you will bee a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView to copy them to the PC laptop.
The image capture/My Computer/photo program will only import photos taken by or saved to the iPod (those in Camera Roll album).

PC with windows 8 wont recognize either of my 2 ipods. itunes software is current.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

  • Updated iTune to 10.3.1, not recognize iPhone4 anymore

updated iTune to 10.3.1, not recognize iPhone4 anymore. During update iTune, it popup TWICE the window of "software not certified by WindowsXP", ask for confirmation. I clicked "continue anyway". After iTune finishes update, the pc doesn't recognize iPhone4 anymore. I restarted PC, doesn't help. Anyone has the same issue here?

I have the same issue. My iPhone now shows up as Apple iPhone instead of the name I created initially.
This also means I can't sync my phone anymore.
