Windows DVD Maker: no audio on burned dvd
I burned a movie using Windows DVD Maker, the playback video is fine but there is no audio. Audio is good on original AVI format of the movie but I get no audio when I burn it to a dvd using the Windows DVD Maker. I have an HP G60-445DX notebook pc, Windows 7 32bit Sevice Pack 1installed. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi akanyr,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having problems with your audio. I have done some research and I have a link for you that has a few steps to try. Step 2 mentions installing the latest audio driver and I have the link below for that. Step 4 in the document suggests a different DVD burner and then has a link for their burner. I don't recommend that program one way or the other but there are several DVD burning programs out there.

Windows dvd maker does not recognize the dvd drive in this computer
I have windows 7 release candidate on my old desktop and this newish notebook. Windows DVD maker works fine on the desktop but on this Lenovo 3000 N200 it will not recognize the built in dvd drive. I have checked with Device Manager and the software is up to date and the device is working normally. I can make DVD movies using a free program called DVD Flick. DVD Flick recognizes the DVD burner, so why won't Windows DVD Maker work??
Hi Ppprrrggg,
The following information was copied from Troubleshoot problems with creating a DVD-Video using Windows DVD Maker
My DVD failed to burn. What can I do?
Try one or more of the following:
Verify that the DVD burner is connected properly to your computer and powered on, and that any necessary software drivers for the DVD burner are installed. You can check your hardware settings in the Device Manager by doing the following:
1.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.
Click Hardware and Sound.
3.
Click Device Manager.
Make sure that the videos you're trying to burn are not corrupted. To see whether the videos you want to burn are corrupted, try playing or viewing them using Windows Media Player. If the files don't play using the Player, Windows DVD Maker cannot burn them.
Choose a slower burning speed for your DVD burner by doing the following:
1.
Return to the Add pictures and video to the DVD page, and then click Options.
2.
In the DVD burner speed box, select Medium or Slow.
Does it work?
Thanks .
I uninstalled DVD Flick and followed the steps above but no luck.....any other ideas??? Apart from the fact that Windows DVD Maker SHOULD work I find it extra annoying because I think it is a very good program....it's better than DVD Flick, and besides not wanting to fork out money I would prefer to have nothing to do with programs like Nero.
Hi,
When you click DVD Maker-what exactly happens?Or what kind of error is?
when i click dvd
when I click dvd burner I select videos 2 burn.....videos I can watch on windows media player. After selecting the slowest burn speed I click on ''burn'' just like I do on my 7 year old desktop (which will then burn a dvd movie). But on this notebook I get a little window......''windows dvd maker''. It reads ''dvd burner not found. A dvd burner was not found. Make sure a dvd burner is connected and installed then try again.'' How useless is that???!!! I find it hard to believe this problem cannot be solved. Also I don't believe I can make the problem any clearer!!! Windows has no problem finding the dvd drive if I want to burn a data dvd so how come I can't burn a dvd movie using windows??? please help!!!!! -
Windows Movie Maker won't play on DVD player
I have the OS7 now
The instruction say that a burned MASTER disc will play on DVD players and most computers???
I have used Mp4 and WMV formats with Windows Movie Maker, but none will play on DVD players but play well on computers???
I had formally use the Windows DVD Maker and the final file was UBF which seemed to work on all players and computers. My DVD Maker will not allow completion of Movie, it notes, " I need the proper codes to make it work"??
I have looked on the Microsoft site for these support codes but cannot find them??? Windows Movie worked well on my Vista OS. What has MS done to screw up this software???
WGC_BACYou need to read the owner's manual for your DVD player to find out exactly what video formats it will play. Then you must ensure you record your video to DVD in a format that is recognized by your DVD player. The Windows 7 Windows Movie Maker
may have a different default video format output that what you were using in Vista. You have the option to specify the format of the video you record to DVD.

I have used I-movie 6.0.3 to create a movie including added an audio track brought in from Itunes, so MP3 files. I then brought it to I-DVD 6.0.4 to burn and saved as a disc image to check it. The disc image looks and sounds correct, but when I burn it to a disc and try to play on either a DVD player or on a computer there is no sound.
Any ideas on what to do?Hi
Any idea ? - Yes, iTunes Copyright mechanism.
In iTunes - copy out the needed audio as an Audio CD .aiff
Now Use this in iMovie.
The re-edited movie will now work with iDVD and even better so if You DON'T use the
Share/Export to iDVD function in iMovie.
• Just close iMovie
• Open iDVD
• Import Your movie project (Icon with a Star on it)
∆ Now iDVD will do the rendering and so much better.
Save as a DiskImage
Test this with Apple DVD-player
Burn it with Apple Disk Util tool (or rather if You bought it : Roxio Toast™) AND AT x1 speed.
This is important though it gives far less errors (speed can't be set in iDVD 6 - it reads speed from
DVD disc)
I use only Verbatim
I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)

Hello I have a burned copy of a DVD that I made on my PC and lost the project files, I want to make copies of this disc. Does Idvd do that, or is there another program for mac that can do this??
Hello Adam,
you can do that with Disk Utility. Have a look at this:
How to copy previously-burned DVD-R video discs

DVD Studio Pro - Markers and burning DVD questions
Hi everybody... I'm not very experienced in DVDSP, actually this is my first professional project with DVD Studio.
I have three issues I don't know how to solve:
1. I have 4 differents video tracks in my DVD. Each track has some Chapter markers. When I use the simulator to test the NEXT/PREVIOUS Chapter everything is ok and when the last Chapter of the current video is reached, if I press again "Next Chapter" nothing happens and that's ok. The problem is that when I test the DVD in my DVD reader, pressing "Next Chapter" when the last chapter of a video is reached goes into the following track. I do not want this to happen, I just want to limit the chapter next/prev on the current track. Is it possible?
2. I set precise chapter markers for the beginning of a new section. On Mac Simulator and Apple DVD Player everything ok, but on the actual standalone DVD player the audio of the next marker is cut for about 2 sec... So the chapter is not exactly as design, first moments of the audio cannot be heard and that's very bad because this is a video lecture... Anyone has experienced that or has an idea on how to solve?
3. I read in the forum that to burn the actual DVD many suggests to use Toast instead. When I create the build and import in Toast the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files, I see that DVD Studio creates some layout non DVD standard files in the VIDEO_TS folder. Some suggests to remove these two files. It is safe? Why DVD Studio includes them in the build if they are NOT according to DVD standards??
Thank you so much for anyone who can help!!
AndreaMerlino wrote:
3. OK so if it's safe to remove the files from the build manually no problem. I've found only two files one .LAY and one .layout. Are there any other files that need to be removed?
No, those are the only ones. One other item that you've probably already figured out: The Orange Book ("the DVD Bible") is very specific about content and very limited in what it allows. I believe the reason for this is that the specs were decided almost 20 years ago and as compared to current electronic devices, the players are dumb as a rock. While we're all willing to deal with this, it leaves one significant pitfall: If you are not careful with the naming of your "Build" folders you'll quickly have dozens of identical folders with contents that appear identical except for how many identically named files they contain.
I've adopted a policy of religiously naming my build folders with descriptive and explicit names ("Wash D-I Recital 2013 Build 1") and stayed away from anything that requires me to remove the .layout file. It is the only actual identifier 'til you open the VIDEO_TS folder in a player. DVDSP doesn't actually remove the layout files, it just discards them from the data stream as it burns the files.
That said, thanks for the work-around idea you came up with; you're going to be a really good author with that kind of savvy. -

After reading the boards, it sounds like the Pioneer DVR-112D 18X DVD Burner (Drive only) is the unit to buy and replace this Sony one.
There appears to be a spacer issue related to the door on the G5 Tower case. Will the spacers from the Sony unit work on the Pioneer unit, or can the Pioneer unit just be installed as is using the existing ribbon cable. I've read the PMG5OpticalDriveDIY.pdf replacement manual, but am confused about SuperDrives vs. the Pioneer DVR-112D.
Can anyone clarify the details of replacement?
Also, will I need new software (Roxio, Toast) to burn CD's and DVD's after replacing the drive?
thanks, and best regards,

DVD Studio Pro will not burn DVD in Lacie D2 External DVD Burner
I ordered a new pack of DVD's. These are the Beall 16x DVD's I bought from Meritline.com. I had been using the 8x Beall's with no problem. I was told that my interal drive was not compatable with the faster burning DVDs. So I bought a LaCie D2 External DVD burner 16x. I still can't burn a dvd in dvd studio pro. I tried Patchburn. It said that this burner is already supported.
I am using DVD Studio Pro 2.
Any ideas?Have you tried burning on other types of brands when burning to your external LaCie? My company bought a NEC external DL burner and it only worked with some type of discs, Maxell DVD+R DL worked but Traxdata DVD+R DL and some other Noname disc didnt work, maybe try that?

I am able to import clips into idvd that have been declared shared in imovie. I am able to create a menu and have multiple video clips on the screen. The clips even play fine (with audio) when previewed.
However once I burn to a dvd-R and play back on any dvd player I get NO SOUND! The only sound I was able to get was the sound of one of those themes in Version 7.0 that come with built in music.
The actual video clip however has NO AUDIO. What is going on??? I tried a new idvd project etc but still no luck.
Any help, much appreciated.
Thanks,
Vidur SoodHi
As above.
But if You want to squees in eg 3hour on a standard 4.7Gb DVD disk.
One way is to use Roxio Toast™ and the function put in the movie anyhow.
This will do the work but to a rather reduced quality.
There are other programs that can do this too but Toast™ does it as good as
one can anticipate and to a fair price.
Alt. DVD Studio Pro in FinalCutStudio bundle
ForMac Devideon™ but then You'll buy an extra DVD-burner too. (not sold separately
as I'm aware of)

Hi,
I have a friend's homemade dvd of a German TV program and wanted to extract parts out of it and burn as my own DVD. I used Handbrake to extract the VOB files as mpeg4 files, then used MPEG Streamclip to combine the files as one 40 minute mpeg4. I then used iDVD (on my MacBook Pro, using 10.5) to burn a DVD. The DVD now works fine on the MacBook Pro, but when I try to view it on my standalone DVD player, I get video but no sound.
In the past, I have successfully used this same procedure a number of times with no problem. I'm not sure why I'm getting stuck here.
I've now tried importing all the mpeg4 videos into iMovie and have sent the one iMovie file I created to the Media Browser. I then burned that file using iDVD. The same problem reoccurs. I get video and sound when I play the DVD on a computer, but I get only video when I use my standalone DVD player. I can get a faint audio if I turn the tv sound way up, but its very faint. The video picture, however, is fine.
I never had this "no audio" problem with any of the other DVDs I burned using iDVD.
Any ideas on how I can get my audio to play when using a standalone player?I had a similar problem a few years ago. At that time I was using a MOTU 828. That particular model has since been superseded.
What happened was that everything worked correctly for the first hour-&-a-half. After that, I lost all audio. Eventually, I worked out that the MOTU had an intermittent fault. Since changing my audio interface, I've had no problems like that.
I hesitate to suggest the MOTU is at fault, but if all else fails, have it examined by a specialist repairman just in case.
Good luck with your search for a solution. -
Do not want dual audio after burning dvd
I have .avi movie with two different languages and after burning are both in movie while playing. I would like to set only one language before burning it with iDVD. Thanks
Hi
I think You support to little info.
• .avi is no Codec but just a container - so what's in it ?
• iDVD has just a few video codec that it accepts
• there are no multilingual funcion in iDVD - so each language has to be it's own free movie (will take up no: x places eg three movies = three times more space needed)
So may be I'm not really understanding Your problem - so Please Re-Phrase and add more info and step by step description on how You try to do this.

IDVD is no longer available so what is best to use to burn i movies to DVD so as they will be seen on DVD players?
Export them from iPhoto:
File -> Export
This User Tip

has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
to a folder on the desktop.
Burn that to disk with the Finder's Burn command. -
I've registered just for this problem as I've tried just about everything imaginable.
What's happening is that when trying to make a DVD from a video file (photo slideshow plus music works fine) that Windows DVD Maker will get to around 74% encoding and then just stop and give me the error message (at this point the progress meter skips to 99%):
"Cannot create the DVD
An error occured when burning the DVD"
I've tried this using an avi file, (I know it works as I have used DVDFLick and its works great,, the menus are no where near as nice as windows dvd maker), and the sample video file included windows (I beleive its a wmv file).
I have looked at the event viewer, heres my error (which seems pretty common doing a google search):

OK so here's what i tried:
1. Small video files, the sample one in the public folder, other 700mb avi files.
2. Unchecked all the codecs in the options menu, then checked one at a time, then checked both, *one is AC3Filter, the other is Avi Decompressor from memery, located in the system32 folder, so not sure why it registered there if it's a windows included codec???).
3. http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/mpeg-2-encoder-is-missing/page/2
Have followed this guys instructions on re-registering the required dll files (which I have checked and they are there in the System32 folder). Though when doing this using the "Run" in the start menu for the command "regsvr32 msmpeg2adec.dll" I get the error:
"The module "msmpeg2adec.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005."
Then I use the command prompt (opening as "Run as Administrator", even though I am an administrator user????) run all the same things, and everything succeeds fine, no errors (but like I said, if don't run as admin, get the same DllRegistryServer error, even though I am an administrator)
Restart the comp. and what do ya know, still doesn't work, same problem, same error.
3. Pictures and music, which burn fine and work fine on a dvd player.
4. Have checked the temporary file where the encoded files are dumped. ie:
C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Temp\AuthorScript*****.tmp
Have opened the video file in WMC (Media Centre), works fine, no audio but that's still seperated at this point, so no worries there). I noticed though that the AC3 file or audio is at 0kb, and the second it is created when DVD maker is doing it's thing, I get an error, hmm not sure what's goin on there???
5. Have used Vista Media Center Decoder utility. Results were:
Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
Audio: Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder
There are no other options (haven't needed to install other codec, don't use Nero either).
I have Windows 7 Pro (64bit), so I have all the necessary codecs built in. (As mentioned, I do have Ac3filter, but that's disable/unchecked in DVD maker, maybe that's the problem???). I would rather not download and install additional codecs.
Oh and it gets to 74% encoding then skips to 99% and the error pops up. From experience making a "picture and music" DVD, 74% is about when it starts burning, or when it merges the video and audio to make the vob file/s. It actually skips quickly to 80% and starts burning (slideshow DVD).
Computer is custom built, it not a HP or anything like that, so I don't have those .ax file extensions in system32 (for those who have seen an answer here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaapps/thread/5cb0a40d-223c-4aed-87c4-3c63f400ee81)
So any idea's/suggestions? I know this will help a lot of people as it seems a common problem. I'm pretty tech savvy, so will try to follow any suggestions carefully.
Ohh and finally, for all those who reply thank you, thank you, thank you, even it if doesn't work, any suggestions are appreciated. And for reading my post, thank you, I realise it's a mighty long post. I hope my linking to multiple sites is okay.I am attempting to burn a DVD from a Divx avi file with an mp3 audio track. I tried twice burning a DVD using Windows DVD Maker and had same result both times. Great picture, correct aspect etc but no audio. I played the DVD on a DVD player and on my laptop
- same result. I should add that I used the preview facility on the software and there was audio. But when I burned the DVD - no audio.
I searched through a few forums, including this one, and tried the recommended procedure of going via Windows Movie Maker. I opened the avi in Movie Maker and chose the DVD option, a message appeared saying that the video would open in Windows DVD Maker which
it did. I clicked on burn and yes, I got picture plus sound. However now the picture was stretched and distorted along the top half of the screen with a green band filling the lower half. I tried once more being careful not to make any silly errors and same
thing.
Divx avi with an mp3 audio track is a very commonly used format so it is surprising that Microsoft haven't configured the software to accommodate this and a number of other common formats such Xvid avi, mp4, m4v etc. with mp3 audio OR ac2 audio.
Surmising that Windows DVD Maker would at least be able to deal with a Windows movie file (a wmv file) I converted the avi to a wmv using AVS Video Converter (a piece of software which I use regularly). NB When converting it's wise to use advance menu to change
frame size to 'original' in order to preserve quality and aspect ratio. There are many other video converters on the market but AVS is a good one.
My supposition was correct DVD Maker produced a perfect DVD from the wmv file. It's unfortunate that Microsoft haven't found a solution to this problem because otherwise DVD Maker does a fine job.
CONCLUSION
Convert your file to an hmv file and then use DVD Maker
