Windows Embedded POSReady

Hi,
I would like to ask about Windows Embedded POSReady? is it still available from Microsoft or replaced by Windows Embedded 8? or those are the same products with different naming? can anyone explain please?
Also, is there a developer download for it if we would like to test a POS .NET application or it's available for purchase only?
Thanks,
Jassim

  • Anyone heard about Windows Embedded POSReady 7 Pro?

Has anyone heard about Windows Embedded POSReady 7 Pro? We manufacture ATMs and were forced to switch from Windows Embedded POSReady 7 to Windows 7 Professional FES last year due to changes in the additional terms (ATs) which stated that
POSReady 7 (without the "Pro"-suffix) must not be used with ATMs.
Since then we started implementing OA 2.1, for being able to activate our machines automatically and had to inform all our customers that we now have to buy more expensive licenses with reduced functionality (no BitLocker in Win7Prof, no Embedded Enabling
    Features, no LP support, etc.).
Last week I found a very interesting EULA on MyOEM.microsoft.com for the new OS-variant "Windows Embedded POSReady 7 Pro", which suddenly is allowed on ATMs explicitly:
    2. ADDITIONAL LICENSING REQUIREMENTS AND/OR USE RIGHTS
    a. Specific Use. You may use the software on a device with automated teller machine (“ATM”) as the primary functionality.
    See
    https://myoem.microsoft.com/oem/myoem/en/topics/Licensing/emblicres/Pages/DP-WinEmbPOSReady7ProEULA.aspx for details.
Our distributor supported us and already found the ATs for Windows Embedded POSReady 7 Pro, but was also surprised that Microsoft introduced this new variant.
Does anybody know more about it?
Where can we (indirect embedded OEM, who purchases through distribution) get such relevant information earlier? ( The only source of information I know is the MyOEM-portal) And why did Microsoft release the new variant now?
    Best regards, Roman Maier

I have never heard of a Pro version for POSReady 7. It is not listed in the life cycle:
    https://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/product-lifecycles.aspx
Nor is there a download for it:
    https://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/downloads.aspx
Sounds like someone is doing some funny business. The successor to POSReady 7 is Windows Embedded 8.x Industry, which comes in two flavors - Pro and Enterprise.

  • Why won't Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 (Windows XP) log off, shut down or restart?

    Hello,
I have recently installed Microsoft's Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 or Windows XP on my Dell latitude D510.  Anytime I try to log off, shut down, or restart it says logging off with the bar going across but even after 1/2 an hour the thing still says
that.  I tried disabling my sound card, reinstalling the driver, and the Microsoft UPH thing but still nothing.  Anytime I want to turn off my laptop I have to hold down the power button which I know is bad for it but I have no choice!  Any
help is appreciated, Thanks in advance.

    Intel Pentium M 740 @ 1.73GHz

  • Windows Embedded POSREADY 7 - Domain Network

I am working on setting up a POSREADY 7 image to replace our existing XP based point of sale units.  Part of this process is adding the POSREADY machine to our domain.
The segment of network that our pos systems are on has no internet access.  Everything is firewall-ed back through our corporate network.
I thought that when a machine was joined to a domain, the domain network profile would be picked up as the one you are connected to.  My machine seems to be connecting using the public profile and getting stuck identifying the network.
Am I not understanding things correctly?  How can I make this machine use the domain network profile?
    Thanks
    sb

Turns out it was a hardware firewall issue.  I am joining a child domain and in order to determine which network you are connected to, a dns probe needs to reach out to the PDC emulator of the root domain.  This was not open in the firewall.  Once
I adjusted my rules, it worked fine.

  • Windows Embedded Stranded Features

    Hi all,
I am using Windows Embedded Stranded in my POS machine. I want to know that Turn Windows Features On or Off function is available or not  in Embedded Stranded  version.
    Thanks,
    Bibin

If you want to add / remove features, you can use
Windows Embedded POSReady 7, which is targeted for POS systems. System Image Manager can be used with POSReady 7 to automate OS installation -

WES7 doesn't have the on/off features since you can pick and choose features in ICE.

  • Windows Embedded Standard 7 (POSREADY 7) and WSUS?

Do any of you have experience with WSUS and POSREADY 7?
I am struggling getting some patches to install from our WSUS.  Specifically, KB3000988 and / or KB3008627.
My question is - in my WSUS server, these updates show as Update for Windows 7.  I don't see one that applies as an Update for Windows Embedded Standard 7.
My thought would be that Windows Embedded Standard 7 is just a flavor of windows 7 - so my hopes would be this update should apply - but I can't get it to do so.
Have any of you seen this?
    Thanks
    sb

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes - KB2918614 broke something that I need to push out and install an MSI remotely using Powershell, and KB3008627 fixes it.
This is a newly deployed image - installed during the month of December across 675 clients.  The updates on the image were installed via the internet -  going straight to Microsoft, and yes, 2918614 was one of them.  I am now trying to push,
ideally, 3008627 out using WSUS and it is not going well.
I have a lab unit next to my desk - freshly imaged to match the field.  I went through and uninstalled KB2918614 - and re-pushed it to this system using WSUS.  It installed without an issue.  But it still wouldn't see the others.
I then put the Lab unit on a subnet that had internet access and tried to hit Microsoft to see if the patch would install.  It did not show in the list of available updates?!?!  Now I am really confused..

  • Win7 Embedded POSready

    Hey all :)
The winsxs folder takes op 30% of my drive, i know how to clean it up on win7 and win7 embedded but i cant find an diskcleanup update for Posready for the cleaning process, am i missing something or is that function not avalible on POSready?
Other windows 7 versions have KB2852386 for that purpose.
    Windows 7 POSready SP1.

The Windows 7 update can be applied to POSReady 7 since POSReady 7 is just another version on Windows 7.

  • WINDOWS EMBEDDED COMPACT 7

    Hi ,
I am having Windows Embedded Compact 7 setup on XP SP3 pc. I need to install a SDIO wifi driver on my Windows CE device. I have tried to install it via cab file and got installed successfully.
The SDIO Wifi driver got loaded but it stopped runnning. It seems the SDIO commands not reaching the WIFI card.
I have also checked the driver by including it into the OS image through Platform registry and bib files. It worked fine.
Is there anything i need to do for the CAB file generation for WEC7 ?
    Best Regards,

  • Which OS is best alternative to windows embedded ?

    Hi
I am looking for a suitable OS for my application. The app. will be deployed in industry or POS. The only requirement is that it must support multiple screens, thus it should support modern graphiccards. the application now runs on windows embedded (and it works quite good, thanks JavaFX!). I also tried Ubuntu, I am very new to linux, but I already faced problems during installation because Ubuntu seems to have problems with newer NVidia graphiccards.
What Linux compilation focuses best for a JavaFX application with rich multimedia support and nothing else?

i currently use vista but i think that it is a pain
in the butt. i want to use either linux or solaris
(which is better). but i don't know if it would
hinder my use of java are other os as good at running
java a widow os's.I am currently using Vista (machine has XP/Vista). I am new to Java Programming but I know computers wise hardware and software just not programming. I have also use Gentoo in the past. Is much cleaner and less lag. Overall I am back in Vista for now. :)
I just did a quick search don't know if the link is correct,

  • Flash Player installation problems with Windows Embedded (WES/XPe)

I've deployed 13 HP T5740 Thin Clients at my office, each have Windows Embedded Standard (WES/XPe) and with Internet Explorer 7.
With limitations on VMWare servers and sound, users need to view webinars on their local client. When I try to install any version of Adobe Flash Player, the installation instantly fails...no reason given.
Is there a known issue with this? And is there a workaround?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

It's not working at the mo and it says under run without permissions - Shockwave Flash Object Enabled version 0.0.0.1
Just tried to download version 10.2.153.1 and now the download manager opens but then just 'hangs' - nothing happens.
On Firefox, version 10.2.153.1 installed and enabled OK. No problem playing clips with Firefox.

  • Hyper-V as User on Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro

I believe I'm having permission issues when attempting to use Hyper-V on Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro.  Hyper-V seems to install cleanly, and from an admin account I can use the Hyper-V Manager without issue and connect to a running VM.  However
if I attempt to use the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection application from the same account, it reports "You do now have the required permission to complete this task..." And attempts to run either the Manager or the Virtual Machine Connection result
in the same on a standard user account.
Standard wisdom seems to be to add the user account to the "Hyper-V Administrators" group but when I've looked in the Computer Management utility and the group "Hyper-V Administrators" does not exist. I've tried manually adding full
permissions to the WMI interfaces for CIMV2, StandardCimv2 and Virtualization namespaces through the WMI Control Properties interface. I've also added the user to the "Administrator" role for Hyper-V services in AzMan as a long shot.  Beyond
this, I'm not sure where to go next.
The end goal is to be able to run the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection Utility from a non-administrative user. Any advice is appreciated.
    -Matthias

Your question might be more general to Hyper-V and not specifically embedded. WE8.1 is Windows 8.1 with lockdown features so there is nothing special. Account level (Administrator vs. non-administrator) does effect what permissions are granted to access
    certain OS features.
Maybe the Hyper-V forum can address the account level -

    Hello.
I found the following information in the Adobe forum, but was not able to find useful information.

  • Windows Embedded 7 on the Nokia Booklet?

Considering the 1GB memory limitation, would there be any noticeable performance gain after installing Windows Embedded 7? While researching performance benchmarks of WES7, I came across this statement on a user forum that caught my attention:
BogdanV: My first try at building a custom CE image and I have to say, the increase in performance is spectacular on a Atom netbook !
He goes on to later add:
BogdanV: Well, I've got Compact Embedded 7 via Connect (from Microsoft), so you should be able to get it too
EDIT: I mean Standard, not Compact ... I keep forgeting.
