Windows Explorer needs to close

Brand new Vista Ultimate installation. Brand new iTunes 9 installation.
If the iPhone is plugged in, clicking Add file... or Add folder causes Windows Explorer to crash. But if the iPhone is NOT connected, it works OK.

Same problem for me... if my iPhone is connected to my PC, Windows explorer crashes every time I try to open a folder in Windows. Very convenient!
Incidentally, when I first installed iTunes, it screwed up several completely unrelated icons on my desktop.

I can't guarantee that Windows Explorer will stop hanging, but I can guarantee that Vista will run faster.
No computer should have been sold with only 1 GB of RAM when Windows Vista is installed.
Get the memory from Toshiba Direct or buy memory made by Kingston. Those are the only ones you can trust to be in spec.
See the section Adding memory (optional) starting on p. 50 of the User's Guide.

  • My Firefox.exe process remain open after I close the browser. If I open it it's says to open a new window.I need to close the process manualy(Ctrl+Alt+del). What can I do?Thanks .

    Need to close the process.

It does take Firefox a while to shut down; it has to update some databases. But it should take less than a minute.
In the support article, this problem is called a "hang at exit" because Firefox hangs when shutting down. Maybe something here will help: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs#Hang_at_exit
Also, sometimes open Firefox windows disappear from the Task Bar. You can use Alt+Tab to switch to them if they remain open.

  • Reader 9 causes message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience." whenever a tab is closed.

After installing reader 9, Internet Explorer gives the message: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." everytime I close an internet window. If I remove reader 9, the problem no longer occurs. Reinstalling reader 9 causes the problem to return. I got rid of reader 8.1.4 because it was not working properly. Any suggestions about this issue?

  • Adobe reader 8.12 wants to close windows explorer?

Hello, I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 and I really need to install Adobe Reader as I am entering into a Cisco Networking course soon, but I'm having a problem I don't quite understand.
It says the following applications are using files that need to be updated by this setup. Close this applications and click retry to continue.
And the program listed is windows explorer.
My options are retry, ignore, and exit.
Retry doesn't work heh, and exit, well it exits installer of course. I haven
t clicked ignore because I lost my account profile once already from an old photoshop cs2 disc i tried to install on vista.
    Any advice?

Did you try closing Windows Explorer?

  • Must close Windows Explorer when installing 7.2 on Vista OS.

What's the story with that? When trying to install 7.2 on Vista Home Premium a box comes up telling me "The following programs are running which some files need to be upgraded, Please close these programs and try again." Well, that program happens to be Windows Explorer. Luckily I chose a different installtion path so I didn't upgrade over 7.1.1, after reading about all the problems people are having with 7.2. Can anyone tell me why a program would need the core of the OS to close? It makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

Well, that program happens to be Windows
    Explorer.
are you sure it isn't saying Internet
Explorer? (if the QTPlugin has been used in that
recently, the itunes/quicktime installer bundle will
    ask to close IE.)
Nope, it was windows explorer, not IE.

  • Firefox won't open a message tells me it is all ready running I need to close the window to open firefox. Firefox is not open so why do I get this message

When I try to open firefox a box opens up and tells me firefox is already running in another window and I need to close the window if I want to open firefox in a new window. Firefox is already closed, nothing is left open when I close out firefox. I would only have this problem once in a while but now it is happening more often why?

Open Task Manager and click on the Processes tab. Scroll down to "Firefox.exe" , click on that line and click on "End Process" button.

  • I want to uninstall firefox but it tells me i need to close it i have checked on taskl manager and firefox does not show as being open. I have Windows 7 OS

I have Windows 7 OS on my desktop. I had trouble with IE9 loading a shoutbox in a Carers Forum I belong to. I loaded Firefox and it allowed me to use the shoutbox okay. But when I tried to access the games aracade it told I needed to download Adobe Flashplayer (the games play okay on IE9). I tried to download Adobe Flashplayer and it downloaded halfway, then told me I needed to close Firefox for the download to continue. I have made sure that it was closed by checking Task Manager to see which applciations were open. I get the same message if I try to download using IE9. I have tried to uninstall Firefox using Control Panel, but I get the same message saying I need to close Firefox... again i checked Task manager but it says it is not running.

  • Acrobat reader install fails on vista - says close windows explorer

I'm trying to install the latest reader on a Windows Vista laptop but the installation fails with an error message "you must close windows explorer".  In task manager there are no running applications but I can see explorer.exe in the list of processes.  I think this is running the desktop/taskbar so I don't want to close it.  Any ideas how to get round this?
    TIA

    This might work.
    1) Open Adobe Reader
    2) Go to Edit then Preferences
    3) Under Categories on the left side click on Internet
    4) Uncheck Display PDF in browser and click Ok.

Install Portable Firefox 3.6.x to your hard drive for that one website. It won't affect your current Firefox installation at all. <br />

  • Canon Utilities Camera Window DC has encountered a problem and needs to close

I just purchased Powershot SX260 HS. I loaded the software and all works except the Camera Window. I keep getting the message encountered a problem and needs to close. I have tried uninstalling all of the software on my PC related to canon (this is not my first canon) and reinstalling the software that came with the sx260 but this did not work. Any suggestions?

  • TS1717 Now I'm starting to get annoyed. I have tried several times today to open up iTunes a message pops up saying that iTunes has encountered a problem. Then it says it needs to close it and Windows will notify me of a solution. Still nothing.

I have tried several times to open iTunes. First I get a message that says that it's encountered a problem and then it said that it needs to close. It also says that windows will notify me of a solution. I've even tried uninstalling it as well as installing it again even downloading it again and still no luck. Any suggestions?

    I guess I'm just lucky.
I've had my black 5Gb Zen Micro over 2 years, used nearly daily and zero problems.
I bought a red 8Gb Zen MicroPhoto last summer, for the car. Again, plugged it in, loaded a bunch of music, never looked back. Another daily player, and all it's done is play music flawlessly.
I also bought a silver 52Mb MuVo TX FM last summer for outdoor stuff and it did have one problem around December, but re-loading the firmware took maybe 5 minutes and it's been perfect ever since.
At least in my experience, Creative players have been trouble free and good value.
My brother got an iPod Shuffle given to him for a Christmas present and it locked up the first day. He ended up selling it and buying a Gb Zen Nano Plus.

  • Windows Home XP - "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"

    Hello :
I just updated to iTunes 7.7.0.43 for Windows Home XP. The earlier version was working just fine. But last week I downloaded the update and although the program works fine, every time that I exit from this application I get an error message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." I went to the support site and did several things including creating a new ueer account to test whether user or system-specific (I cannot tell); re-installing the application; re-creating my library and play-lists; etc. But I still get the same error message. Otherwise the application works fine, plays music, imports music OK, etc. This condition only occurs a few seconds after I exit from the application. Can anybody out there help me ? I am at my wit's end with this annoyance ! Thanks.

Whether or not this will be fixed by a software update depends on what the root cause of the issue is. I would recommend trying MSCONFIG, although I can understand your reluctance to do so. Is your computer currently in Normal startup mode? If so, and if Apple's MSCONFIG steps do not resolve your issue, you can easily revert to Normal startup using the utility. If your computer is currently in Selective startup mode, just make note of the changes you make so you can change them back after you determine whether MSCONFIG resolved the issue. If it does, I'd suggest using the utility to disable a few items at a time until you narrow down which is the cause of the issue. Then you can determine whether this is a startup item or service that you need to have running on your PC.
    MSCONFIG for XP: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275
    MSCONFIG for Vista: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305415
You may also want to check and see if iTunes and/or QuickTime are running in compatibility mode. If the are, turn this option off and retry iTunes.
    -Go to C:\Program Files\iTunes\
Right-click on iTunes.exe and click Properties
    Click the Compatibility tab
Uncheck the option to run in compatibility mode
    Click Ok
    -Go to C:\Program Files\QuickTime\
Right-cick on QuickTime.exe and click Properties
    Click the Compatibility tab
Uncheck the option to run in compatibility mode
    Click Ok
    Test iTunes again.
