Windows File Crawling - change of folder names in KD?

I setup a Windows File crawler and have it set to mirror the folder structure of the imported path.
However, I would like to slightly change some of the folder names in the KD and leave them the same on the actual share drive.
In my attempts to do this the crawler keeps reverting the filenames back to the way they are on the share drive.
Is there any setting that I can change that might allow me to do this?
I assume its a lost cause, but figured I'd check anyway.
Thanks for any help!

You're correct. It's a lost cause.

Here's a copy and paste in case you still can get to it:
OS X: How to change user account name or home directory name
Summary Learn how to change your user account name and home directory name (which should match) by using the advanced procedure described below.
    Products Affected
    Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.6, OS X Lion, Mac OS X 10.0, Mac OS X 10.1, Mac OS X 10.2, Mac OS X 10.3, Mac OS X 10.4
    About the account name
Each user in Mac OS X has a "Full Name" (referred to as "Name" in Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) and an "Account name" (referred to as "Short Name" in Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) as defined in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences (referred to as Accounts pane or Users pane in Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier). The account name can contain up to 255 lowercase characters with no spaces. This is the name used to create a user's home directory (also known as the user's Home or Home folder) in the Users folder. Once the user has been created, the account name (or short name) cannot be changed in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences.
    Changing the account name
Though there are other methods by which an advanced user may change the short name and related information, the easier and safer workaround is described below.
Before following these steps, you may wish to back up your important data.
For Mac OS X v10.5 or later
    Enable the root user.
    Log in as root.
    Navigate to the /Users folder.
Select the Home folder with the short name you want to change, and rename it just like you would rename any folder. Keep in mind that the shortname must be  all lowercase, with no spaces, and only contain letters.
Use the Users & Groups pane (Accounts pane in Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier) in System Preferences to create a new user with the Account name or Short Name that you used in the previous step.
Click OK when "A folder in the Users folder already has the name 'account name'. Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?" appears. Note: This will correct the ownership of all files in the Home folder, and avoid  permissions issues with the contents.
Choose Log Out from the Apple menu.
Log in as the newly created user. You should be able to access all of your original files (on the desktop, in Documents, and in the other folders of this Home).
After verifying that your data is as expected, you can delete the original user account via the Users & Groups pane (Accounts pane in Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier).
    Disable the root user.
For Mac OS X v10.4.11 and earlier
Optional step: As a precaution, you may disable automatic login prior to performing this procedure.  You might want to back up important data, too. In the event that you restart the computer for any reason before completing the procedure, this would prevent complications from having displaced the user selected for automatic login. (For Mac OS X v10.1.5 or earlier, automatic login is found in the Login preference pane. For Mac OS X v10.2 and v10.3, it is found in the Accounts preference pane.)
Mac OS X v10.3 or later: If FileVault is enabled, temporarily turn it off, which will log you out.
Enable the root user and log in as root.
For Mac OS X v10.2 or later: Open the Accounts pane of  System Preferences.
For Mac OS X v10.1.5 or earlier: Open the Users pane of System Preferences.
In the Name list, locate the user account with the short name that you want to replace. This will be referred to as the "original user".
Note whether or not the original user is identified as an administrator, which appears in the Kind column to the right.
Click New User. For Mac OS X v10.3 or later, this is the plus button.
Complete the Name and Short Name fields as desired. Be sure that the Short Name is exactly as you want it to appear.
For Mac OS X v10.2: Fill in the New Password and Verify fields.
For Mac OS X v10.1.5. or earlier: Click the password tab, then fill in the Password and Verify fields.
If the user you are replacing is an Admin user, then select the checkbox for "Allow user to administer this computer". For Mac OS X 10.3, click the Security tab to locate this setting.
Note: This checkbox is dimmed and already selected if there is not another Admin user. Mac OS X requires at least one Admin user.
Click Save. (Skip this step for Mac OS X v10.3.)
    Quit System Preferences.
Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
Choose Computer from the Go menu.
Open the Users folder in the Mac OS X disk.
Open the folder with the short name of the new user that you just created.
Drag the contents of this folder to the Trash.
Important: Do not empty the Trash yet. In the event that you accidentally move contents of the wrong folder, you may recover them from the Trash after discovering your mistake.
Choose New Finder Window from the File menu. Be sure to position the new window so that you can see both Finder windows.
In the new window, open the folder of the original user.
Press the Option key as you drag the contents of the original user's folder into the new user's folder (that you emptied in Step 16). This makes a copy of the contents.
Close one of the Finder windows.
Open the Terminal application (located at /Applications/Utilities/).
    Type: chown -R <new_name> /Users/<new_name>
Important: Replace "<new_name>" with the actual short name of the new user you just created. For example, if the new user had the short name "jacques", you would type:
    chown -R jacques /Users/jacques
    Press Return
    Quit Terminal.
Choose Log Out from the Apple menu.
Log in as the new user. You should be able to access all of your original files on the desktop and in the folders of the Home directory.
Important: If you do not have access to your original items, log out and log back in as root, then repeat Step 22. Also, be sure that you did not place the wrong files in the Trash in Step 16.
Choose Home from the Go menu.
Open the Library folder, then the Keychains folder inside it.
Select the keychain, which should still have the short name of the original user.
Choose Show Info from the File menu.
In the Info window that appears, choose Name & Extension from the pop-up menu.
Change the name to match the new user's short name.
    Close the Info window.
Open the Keychain Access application, located in the Utilities folder.
From the Edit menu, choose "<new_name> Settings". For the user Jacques, this would appear as: "jacques Settings".
    Click Change Passphrase.
Enter the desired password, then click OK. You may use the same password again or set it to match the login password of the new user.
Note: This step prevents you from discovering later that the keychain had retained an older password.
    Quit Keychain Access.
    Disable the root user.
If everything is working correctly, you do not need to log back in as root to empty the Trash. The folders you put there occupy a negligible amount of disk space.
Depending on what software you have installed, you may wish to rename other files and folders that may have been created under the original user short name to match the new user short name.
Once you are certain that everything is working properly, you may want to delete the Home directory (folder) of the original user, which should be empty. For instructions on how to do this, see this article.
Additional Information Note: Although you can change your Home name in Mac OS X v10.3 or later, you  usually shouldn't.

  • Active Content: cannot change Scripts folder name?

    Using DW 8.0.2.
After I accept the Active Content workaround to be applied to
my pages, I'd like to change Scripts folder name to "scripts" or
even move the scripts to my "jscript" folder, which already exists.
When I do this DW correctly asks to update the page links, but even
with the correct links the scripts does not run anymore.
It seems to be caused by some JS code included in the
scripts, which points to "Scripts" folder in site root. But I don't
know enough JS to identify and modify this. Any help will be very
    welcome.

Shouldn't happen. I have moved the AC .....js file many times
    to different
folders and if the path is correct, everything works
    properly. Can you
    please post a link.
You cannot lose until you give up !!!

  • How to Change the Folder Name in Workbook

    Hi there
I have a situation, I have created the workbook in existing folder (ORDER) in TEST business Area, now I have to move this report to another Business area (Custom) which has folder (Custom Order Folder), how can I change workbook folder name and item name, because my custom folder has different name.
    Like-- Original BA (TEST)
    ORDER (Folder)
    Item1
    Item2
    Item3
    Custom BA
    CUSTOM Order Folder
    Custom Item1
    Custom Item2
    Custom Item3
    Any help Appreciated.
    Thank
    ASIM

    Hi,
If you are able to export and delete the original folder, then you can rename the identifiers of the new folder to be the same as the original folderand then open the workbook so that it uses the new folder. If you save the workbook, then rename the identifiers and re-import the orignial folder then you should find that the workbook continues to use the new folder.
Otherwise take a look at this thread (Re: How to switch folder that report using form one to another? for a solution.

    Hi Experts,
    Good day!
I would like to ask help regarding mass changing of folder names in CRM in tcode 'COMMPR01' under documents tab. I tried to change the folder name of one material but it only updates the folder name for that specific material and not for the whole CRM box. Is there a way for me to do a mass change of name for the folders in CRM? Can this be done in customizing(SPRO)?

How to change home folder name ?

  • Restrict Permission to change the Folder name of Cfolder Collaboration

    Hi,
As a part of my requirement i would like to restrict the users having the 'WRITE' authorizations  from changing the folder name of folders created under the collaboration. It would be great if you any one can provide some inputs to achieve it

    Hello Vikas,
I can tell you a workaround, how to achieve this.
as an administrator with admin authorization navigate into a folder press the authorization button and select read authorization for (a) user(s)/user group(s)/role(s) used in the collaboration.
Then create under the folder a new folder "Workspace" and navigate into this folder press the authorization button and select write authorization for (a) user(s)/user group(s)/role(s) used in the collaboration.
The procedure could be automated by writing a piece of code, which calls the cFolders APIs:

  • Changing "untitled event" no longer changes coinciding folder name

I guess this doesn't cause any sort of problem, but is a change I've noticed and just trying to figure out why. I just upgraded to the new iPhoto '09. I recently uploaded photos from my camera and then changed the folder name from "untitled event" to a custom name, as I've done many times in the past. Previously, if I then went to "show package contents" in the iPhoto library, the new name I had changed the event to would also show as the folder name within the iPhoto library. Suddenly that's not happening since the upgrade. My most recent folder was changed, but when I look at that same folder in the package contents, it still just shows the date and not the custom name. Has anyone else noticed this? Again, not a problem, or causing any issues. But I do find it odd that the event name now would no longer coincide with one another.

No one is - and no one is really happy about it - but since you really don't (at least shouldn't) go into the iPhoto library very often it also is not a giant deal

  • Changing Directory/Folder Names to Lowercase in RH 8?

Using RH 8 on Windows XP Professional
I need to publish my RoboHelp project to an Apache server.  Some of my directory/folder names have capital letters in them, which wasn't a problem with RH 5.  My project always worked on the server despite that.  However, when I publish with RH 8, pages and images inside directories with any capital letters in their names won't show up. However, if on the server I manually change the directory names to all lowercase, these pages and images show up. Now, I just need to be able to publish this way from RoboHelp, which is my problem.
Here is everything I've tried.  If you have suggestions on what else I could try, please help.
Every time I published the project, I checked the "Use Lowercase File Names (Recommended for UNIX)" option, but this only changes the html file names not the directory names.
In RoboHelp's Project Manager area, when I renamed the directories to lowercase letters, they immediately went back to the capitalization that had previously.
Then I tried closing RH and renaming the directories to lowercase in a Windows Explorer window.  However, when I open the project back up in RoboHelp, these directories show up with capitalization again...even though the source directories have been renamed with lowercase letters.
After that, I tried deleting the .cpd file (with RoboHelp closed of course) because I had seen from other forum posts that this fixes a variety of problems. When I re-launched RH, I still have the same problem with the directories showing up with caps.
If I try to republish with all of the directories on the server in lowercase, RoboHelp either creates a new directory for the capitalized folders (can reside side by side with the lowercase folder of same name on an Apache server) and puts the contents inside it or it dumps it's contents at the top-level directory of the project.  For example, if my folder says "Papers" in RoboHelp and I already have a folder named "papers" on the server, I'd have two folders, "Papers" and "papers", on the server when RoboHelp finished publishing.
I tried deleting all the files on my server and re-publishling in the off chance RoboHelp would magically publish the directories in lowercase.  Of course, this didn't work, but I was getting to the point that I'd try anything.
Again, any suggestions you have on what would work would be hugely appreciated.

    Hi again
I can't help but to notice you said you deleted the files from the server. You didn't say folders too.
About the only other thing I can think of is to try renaming yet again to something like folder1 so the names are actually different. Then push that to the server and see if it mysteriously shifts to mixed case.
Frankly, I'm surprised it failed to work straight off. But you never know sometimes when dealing with servers.
CPD is a Cache Project Database. Most of your project files are now in an XML format. Those files used to only reside in the CPD and instead of CPD the extension was MPJ. This is a Microsoft Access Database file using a custom file extension. Just making an educated guess here, but I suspect it's primary purpose these days is to provide an easy means of reporting on the project.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Changing User Folder Names

    Hi Folks.
    I’ll try to be brief.
Just bought a new computer with pre-installed Windows 7 home premium.
I’ve always been a little confused since XP (or was it Vista?) by the three user folders; ‘owner’ ‘default’ and
‘public’ but like most people I’ve got used to it and it doesn’t bother me, I know all my stuff is in
    ‘my’ users folder.
What really really bothers me is that on my new computer the ‘main’ user folder doesn’t bear my name but that of the computer
store where I bought the computer. I’ve tried but can’t change the name.
There is no way that I can live with this computer for the next few years with
‘Joe Bloggs Computers’ being the owner and main man on my computer.
Every time I look for files, download files, transfer files, save files, etc,
its to ‘Joe Bloggs Computers’ that they go.
I’ve changed the ‘computer name’ to mine via computer properties and also changed the ‘Registered Owner’ name to
mine via the registry but the main user folder still bears only the name of ‘Joe Bloggs’.
I’ve played around with folder ownership properties (which I find mega confusing) where ownership and rights belong sometimes to me, sometimes
to Joe Bloggs, and sometimes both to me and Joe Bloggs together.
The hard drive has protected partitions which contain the OS but this problem bothers me so much I’d be willing to reinstall the using the
recovery discs to solve the problem but hopefully you guys find a solution.
    Thanks

I think you should do this -
Change your user account name from Control panel.
At the Control Panel you need to click on user account name.
Click on the Change Name option
    Then
change folder profile and make sure create a new account with administrator
This new account is only needed to change the folder profile name.
To create a new account click Manage Another Account > Create a new Account
Log off your computer and then log in with the newly-created account
Now Open Windows Explorer then navigate to C:\users
Right click on the folder you want to rename and change it to the same name as your new  user profile with which you log
    in to your Windows 7
At this point you have successfully renamed your Windows 7 user folder but to avoid possible error you need to perform a registry
edit. Go to registry editor by typing “Registry” (without quote) in Start Menu. Navigate to the following registry value:
Righ click on the profile list and navigate to  “Find” Menu
Type in your old user in the search box and then hit ‘Find Next”.  Navigate to the “Profile Image Path” located on the
right pane of the registry editor and click twice on it
Edit  the registry value to rename it to your new user profile

  • Problems after changing user folder name

    Hi everybody,
My pc had a problem with the HHD so I needed to send it back to the repair centre. During the reparation the company created a user called 'user'.
Since I had a backup that had to restore data in C:\Users\Andrea I changed the user's name as in this guide http://  superuser.com/questions/495290/how-to-rename-user-folder-in-windows-8 (I followed the step: 'I have
already logged into that account' since that was my situation.)
Now when opening Windows Update (only the desktop version, while the metro version works fine) I got this error
    http://  postimg.org/image/6c6konbhh/
I hope someone has an idea of what's happening.
    Thanks in advance.
P.S. Sorry for the links but I couldn't post links or pictures because the forum says that I am not verified.

Create new user account with administrative privilege and try Windows Update.
If same issue, follow the steps to solve.
Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative tools > Services
Stop the Background Intelligent Transferring Service, Cryptographic Service and Windows Update service.
then goto C:\Windows rename the Software Distribution folder as Software Distribution.OLD
    Reboot the PC.
Now you can try Windows Update.

  • How to change the folder name of saved pictures

A problem I was facing with iPhoto 11.
In the older version of iPhoto everytime I imported photoes from my camera it used to save it in the iPhoto Library under the same exact name as the Event Name. Meaning, if I chose the event name to be "2013 - My Birthday Party" and hit import for the pictures I wanted it to import, the same exact even name I could search for under the iPhoto Library. There under "Orginial" folder I could easily look for "2013 - My Birthday Party" a folder name same as the event name.
Now in teh new version of iPhoto (iPhoto 11) first I've noticed that the folder "Original" now became "Masters" which is fine by me (who cares what teh name is, as long as it stores the pictures and can backup this folder with Time Machine). However, the second thing I realized and this is my problem, is that iPhoto stores all my imported photoes under folder and subfolders which indicates the date I imported the pictures from my camera and not the name of the event.
This is quite annoying, as all my photoes since 2008 are categorized by the event name I gave them and not by the month/day/date etc. as it is now.
My question is whether there is a way to enforce iPhoto to keep the old methodology of storing its photo while keeping the event name under the "Masters" folder?
And please do NOT ask me why I need to go directly to the Finder folder... it doesn't resolve my issue.
    Thanks in advance!
    N

You need the latest version of iPhoto for that export option - and you can't run that on 10.6.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Exporting does not remove images from the Library, it simply make a new file.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
