WIndows File Repository Vs WebDAV Repository

Hi,
Colud you please let me know what s the difference between
windows file repository and webDAV repository .
Thanks in Advance,
Ashok

Hi Ravi,
if you want to integrate a Windows File Server, the file system repository is the easiest way to implement this.
Here you can use the W2KSecurity Manager to manage the access rights.
But all Users have to do an User Mapping in the Portal. That means that they have to save their username and password in the portal before they can access the files. If the password for the file server has to be changed periodically, this method is not very user-friendly.
if you have a WebDAV Server, you could use the WebDAV Repository to connect to this server. In this case you can use the kerberos module to install a really Single Sign-On.

  • Windows File Share configuration from AIX Portal

    Hi,
we want to connect a Windows file share as  KM  Repository to a portal running on AIX.
The network path is configured using jCIFS and user (DOMAIN.NET\USERNAME) is entered with password. The corresponding path is also entered in the FS Repository manager using ACLSecurity manager. A Windows System is not configured .
In the repository managers monitoring view our new repository manager shows a green button. In the KM however, it is not visible. The portal log shows the following error:
"Cannot retrieve credentials from URL for file 'DOMAIN.NET; USERNAME/' "
We tried to connect the file share with the same user/password. This worked fine.
Is there something else to configure ?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
the problem was the passwort. Using "?, %" or other special characters interpreted in a URL may not be used.
After changing password to a alphanumeric everything works just fine.

  • Problem while uploading text file through portal into WebDAV repository .

    Hi all...
I am not able to upload any file through portal onto my webDav repository for remote server however reverse is possible i.e. any document created at remote server is reflected in portal.
Everytime when i try to upload file though portal , i get the following error::
The item could not be created because an exception occurred in the framework.
    Kindly suggest what to do....
    ThankS

    Hi Chetna,
Have you specified any user information in the webdav repository....Like always connect through this user, in the webdav repsository tab....This user may not have write permission in the windows.
Also are you sure that the user you logged in portal by which you failed to create new files or folders and the user that was able to create file in the windows are one and the same.....

Could any one help in solving this issue.
    Regards,
    Sravanthi

    Hi Chiluveru Sravanthi
According to the documentation, there is a difference between the path syntax for the repository manager and the network path. Did you pay attention to this difference when doing your configurations?
    Network paths (Network Path)
Specifies the path to the Windows remote server.
The path consists of the IP address of the Windows remote server, and a path specification.
    For example,
    192.168.0.1share
Alternatively, you can enter the UNC name and path of the server, for example,
    servershare.
SAP recommends that you specify the IP address, since you can then check the availability of the server more easily, using the ping command.
Note: It is not sufficient to enter the server name alone. Specifications in the form of c$ cannot be resolved either.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/63/7f283ac3d7c54b94964931fa1b4ed9/frameset.htm
File System Repository Manager (Root Directory)
This denotes the path to the root directory in the file system to which the repository manager is assigned.
If you want to integrate documents from a Windows system, this can be a drive letter (followed by a colon) or directory path on the local server or a remote server share (for example, //myserver/myshare/somedir).
If you are running your portal on UNIX and want to access the file system on another UNIX host, you must mount the required directory on the portal server.
Example path when using a UNIX system:
    /usr/company/share
The repository manager is responsible for the specified directory and all its subdirectories.
Note that multiple repository manager configurations are not allowed to have the same subpath in their Localroot parameter.

  • Windows & File System Repository - security issues

    Hello,
I got a strange behavior in EP 6 SP 2 using KM and Windows file systems. Here is the scenario:
    - I created a Network Path and a File System Repository pointing to a Windows 2003 File System, following the portal help instructions. Both EP6 server and Windows 2003 server are in the same domain.
    - according the KM Monitor, the repository is up and running
    - the portal users can access their respectives folders in the file system after having their uids / passwords mapped in the user mapping option
    - the portal is assuming the permissions (read & write & list folder & etc) from windows
So far it seemed to be everything ok - but after some tests we got the problem:
    - user "A" has his uid/pwd mapped in portal, and read & write access to the file system "dept_folder". He can access the folder through a KM iview, with r/w privileges.
    - user "B" has his uid/pwd mapped in portal, and ONLY read access to the file system "dept_folder". He can access the folder through an KM iview, with read privileges.
    - and here comes the problem: if user "A" is logged, and user "B" replaces his uid by user "A" uid in the user mapping (only the uid, the password doesn't matter) he can access the file system "dept_folder" with the same privileges than user "A".
I looked in SDN, SAP Notes and SAP Portal Help trying to find an article related to this, no success so far. We have CM Patches 2 & 3 applied, and Patch 4 doesn't have any comment about this specific security problem.
Has someone already face this problem ? Or could be something wrong in my configuration ?
    Rgds, and tks in advance
    Fernando Cervantes

    Hi David
The same occurred here, I think I know the reason. Let me just give you an overview of my configuration:
    Network Path id          ccc-ccc1fs-drive_i
    Description *            DRIVE I - CCC1FS Server
    Network Path *
    ccc1fs\Drive_I
    Password           *********
    Re-Enter Password      *********
    User *            ccc\service
The user was provided by the Windows administrator and has full control for this folder.
    File System Repository
Description                  File System drive_i CCC1FS Server
    Prefix *                 /ccc-ccc1fs-drive_i
    Root Directory *            //ccc1fs/drive_i
    Windows Landscape System       Windows
    ACL Manager                Not set
    Security Manager          W2KSecurityManager
The important here is the Security Manager configuration - it must be W2KSecurityManager, otherwise you will have the user permissions overrided by admin user permission. And you will need to configure a Windows system landscape too.
I hope this can help you...concerning the bosses, I got the same situation, I said the whole stuff would work fine
    Rgds,
    Fernando

  • Problem uploading content into repository over WebDAV

    Hi,
Sorry if the questions is responsed yet, but I haven't found it.
I am a new user in Oracle and Oracle XML DB. I have installed Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1. The dabase was created through the wizard and I have enabled 2100 and 8080 ports to work with FTP, HTTP and WebDAV. I have also created a new USER called DAVID with DBA permissions.
With this user I can upload 'not xml-content based' resource over FTP with different sizes but when I try to upload it over WebDAV I receive a message windows error and the resource is partially uploaded always with less than 500 bytes.
For example, I have upload a chm file with 19Mb. over FTP but I can't do the same over WebDAV.
What is the problem???? What I can do???
    Thanks in advance,
    David

OK!, I can't created a bigfile tablespace, I specified only 1024Mb. but oracle tries to create a tablespace with 192Gb.
Finally, I have created a normal tablespace (initial size 500Mb), I have opened 2100 and 8080 ports to operate with FTP, WebDAV and HTTP.
Transfer over FTP works well but WebDAV continues with problem.
I have read the Bug 3703236 posted by mdrake, but I don't found any comment that helps me to solve the error.
As it say if I rename any file to xml, I can uploading to the repository over WebDAV without problem, but this file can't be renamed. For instance, in repository file system, rename msmsgs.xml to msmsgs.exe returns an error.
Also I have opened a TAR.
    Any Idea?.
    Thanks in advance,
    David.

  • Indexing webdav repository

    Hi,
we have configured windows file share into KM by webdav repository and SSO. Now our requirement is to index these repository documents. As these scenario works as an SSO model, i have created index_service and other service users in ADS.
I am indexing it by assigning datasource as these webdav repository. I have some 8000 documents under this repository. But when the indexing is ove, i could see that only few hundred documents are getting indexed. Other documents failed to get preprocessed. It is throwing error as
    Return Code: 13502
    Return Message: HTTP-Proxy: BadGateway
    Document Status: Preparation Failed
    Action: Index
    Retry Count: 3
What is that i can do to get all the documents indexed ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ganesh N

    Ganesan,
    1) Check if all the documents are visible in KM content iview.
    2) Since you are able to index few documents I guess the problem could be with TREX's limitation. There are few limitation with TREX (it wont index xls with more than 10000 lines, pdf more than 5Mega bytes etc).
    Refer this document,
    http://help.sap.com/bp_epv260/EP_JA/documentation/How-to_Guides/10_TREXRec_en.pdf
    3) Check if you access to those documents on the fileshare (authorization to Read the file)

  • WebDav Repository - MS Sharepoint Integration

    Hi Everybody,
I'm trying to apply the things I read in the article "Interoperability between SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 and Windows SharePoint Services" (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/9e891378-0601-0010-5386-a3387f1b161b).
It's about configuring WebDav repositories to access HTTP Systems. I'm trying to acces documents stored in MS Sharepoint.
I'm having a problem with security.
The IViews I use to access the WebDav repository I defined are working well and showing the content stored in MS Sharepoint.
My problem is that those IViews are showing the info with the privileges granted to the user I've used to define the HTTP System.
In that config screen, there's a checkbox that says "Same user domain". Its hint says that if it is checked, the credentials of the logged user would be forwarded to the http server, but this is not happening.
I'm logging on to SAP Portal with an user that has no permissions in Sharepoint and i'm still seeing the documents and I can even upload new documents.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks in advance, Fede.

    Hi all,
the WSS WebDAV Connector (aka "SharePoint WebDAV Connector, SWC) was released some days ago and a new Interoperability Section on Microsoft-sap.com is now live.
See http://www.microsoft-sap.com/technology.aspx --> SAP Enterprise Portal (EP) for the WSS WebDAV Connector.
In the SWC documentation there are some hints for the configuration of the security requirements / authentication types which should be helpful for your problem.
    Kind regards,

  • Can a WebDAV repository be created pointing to a folder in the same portal?

    Hi All,
I am in the process of testing the WebDAV repository feature in our portal(EP6SP9 on windows platform).
The problem is I do not have another portal with CM running to test this functionality. As the WebDAV repository has to point to another WebDAV server, I am trying to point it to the same portal in which I am creating the WebDAV repository. Is this possible?
After creating the WebDAV repository, I am able to see the WebDAV folder(the prefix given during the WebDAV repository creation) in the KM area, if the URL name given during the HTTP System creation is like "www.somename.company.com". But I am not able to see any content under this folder. But this URL cannot point to any portal, as the URL name of the portal should have a port number like "www.somename.company.com:50000/irj/portal"
If I give the proper URL of the portal I am not even able to see the WebDAV folder.
Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated, as it is a very urgent requirement for us.
    Best regds,
    Naresh.

    Hi Julian,
I am also having the very similar kind of issue as Naresh.
Thanks for your positive reply that it is possible.
I would like to know whether the server URL of the HTTP system is right if it is like "http://someportal.companyname.com:50000/irj/portal". Because if I give this as the server URL, I am not in even able to see the folder(the prefix name which we give during WebDAV repository creation) in the KM Content iView.
If it is wrong, what is the right format of the server URL to be used in the HTTP system creation?
I am able to see the folder(the prefix name which we give during WebDAV repository creation) without content if the server URL is like "http://someportal.companyname.com". But I feel this is not right as we are not even specifying the port number as "50000" here.
And what is the system path to be used during the Repository creation? can that be "/documents"? If so, can all the documents under "/documents" be accessed from the WebDAV repository?
Your reply will be of great help to me as I am in urgent need of a solution to this problem.
    Thanks & Best regds,
    Alagammai.
