WINDOWS FORMAT ON A MAC
Okay, I just got the 80 iPod. I plug it in and it does not read my serial number and lists the format as Windows. It also cannot download all my tunes and no videos because I'm "not updated." But I am. Any suggestions???
If you don't intend using the iPod on Windows you could restore it. Restoring it will erase the hard drive, reformat it for Mac, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings
Just for additional information. An iPod formatted for Mac won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive without the aid of a third party helper program. This is one for instance: XPlay 2

Problem with windows formatted iPod on Mac
I have a 20gb 4th gen iPod formatted for Windows. I just received a Mini Mac as a gift and now I want to use the iPod on it. When I connect the iPod and run iTunes it recognizes it and updates and does everything it's supposed to do, but if I try to click on any of the items in the menu on the left (Library, Playlists, etc.) iTunes quits completely and the iPod is ejected. I've tried restoring but that makes it quit, too. I've also tried completely erasing everything from the iPod manually (even the hidden files and folders) but that doesn't reformat it. Any suggestions?

Mini Mac Mac OS X (10.4)Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives. -
Music library from Mini (windows formatted) to Intel Mac Book
My daughter's windows computer crashed hard the other day. She has all her music on her mini and we want to transfer the music from the mini to the Intel MacBook. I've been unable to find any software that does this transfer. There are lots that will move from a Mac formatted mini to a Mac computer, or from a Windows formatted mini to a Windows-based computer, but none that I've found that will do the transfer from Windows to Mac directly.
Any suggestions?Senuti or iPodRip

Restoring Windows formated ipod to Mac Platform
Hi..
I own a 15Gb 3rd generation ipod which is windows formatted. I recently bought the imac(intel core duo) and I would like to restore my ipod to mac from windows. When I tried connecting the ipod to my mac using USB, the ipod shows up as a drive and even the ipod software recognizes it but I cannot choose the restore option. It says that I need to connect using a firewire to restore the ipod. When I connect using a firewire, the ipod starts to charge but is not recognized by the computer nor by the ipod updater even though its plugged in. I am using ipod software 2006-3-23 and my imac is running on OSX 10.4.6
Please le me know what I can do.
15Gb 3rd Generation ipod Mac OS X (10.4.6)Before doing anything, please make sure all your music has a backup on the iTunes either on your PC or your new Mac.
Then, put your iPod in disk mode (USB or Firewire is fine - but use the one that your iPod can be recognized by your Mac). Connect it with your Mac, open the Disk Utility, go to Tab "ERASE" and click Erase (Mac OS extended (journaled) format). Once it has been done. Eject your iPod and do a Reset. Reconnect your iPod with your Mac and open the iPod updater and click Restore -
Song transfer of Windows formatted iPod into Mac iTunes?
My iPod was formatted using my Windows computer, but I recently got a Mac and i use both computers equally. However, I would like both computers to have the same music in iTunes. is there a way to transfer songs from my Windows computer to the Mac without reformatting my iPod?
You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

Hello
Currently, I have about 12GB of music on a PC and an iPod (20GB 3G) that regularly syncs with this music. I've purchased a Mac and I plan to move all that music over.
Now I think I can move that music across easily enough across the LAN network (is there an article which describes how this can be done?).
Once I've moved that music over I've got to sort out the iPod. How do I format the iPod to a Mac? I know I could keep it PC formatted but I'd prefer if it wasn't. It seems a bit complicated but I hope someone can explain it to me.
Thanks*How do I format the iPod to a Mac?*
Connect it to your Mac and restore it with iTunes. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7 -
Anyone know how to reformat a Windows formatted ipod to Mac?
Just upgraded my PC to a shiny new MAC but can't for the life of me see how to reformat my Ipod to make it work with the new computer!
All I have suceeded in doing so far is restoring the factory settings and deleting everything that was on my ipod before but it still isn't recognised when I plug it into my Mac! Help!"All I have suceeded in doing so far is restoring the factory settings"
Did you carry out this restore on a PC? To reformat for Mac the iPod has to be restored in iTunes For Mac. Try putting the iPod into Disk Mode, that may help computer recognise it:

I have an IPod Touch that has been formatted for a Mac. All instructions I have been able to find use ITunes or Device Manager to reformat the device for Windows. This cannot be done if Windows doesn't recognize the device. Is there another way to set the device back to the factory settings directly on the device without using ITunes?
Ipod touch is not formatted one way or the other at all.
Just sync it to the new computer using itunes.

How do I change my Ipod from mac to windows format?? My Imac is not working at the moment, but I want to use my Ipod on my PC. How do I get my Ipod(mac formated) to get work on my PC??
Use iTunes on the PC to restore the iPod, or install XPlay on the PC without changing the format. Restoring the iPod will erase everything on it.
