Windows format to mac

I originally formatted my ipod using a PC but now have a Mac and was wondering if there is a way to reformat it and if it is worth it for updates or if it's fine to keep it as is.
Thank you!

Connect the iPod to your Mac and click on it's icon when it appears in iTunes. This will bring up the Summary tab, click on the restore button. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, load the Mac version of the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Windows Formatted to Mac...

My Nano was originally formatted on a PC and I have just downloaded the latest software update on my Mac.
How can I reformat my Nanon so that I can install this on my Mac?

If you don't have the songs in iTunes there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod and copy them back to a computer, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward..

  • Switching from pc format to mac format

i recently bought a macbook and started using my video ipod on the mac. wheni downloaded movies from the itunes store it said that the vio could not be put on my ipod because it needed to be updated. when i tried to update it it said only macintosh format ipod can be updated. what do i do? how do i re format my ipod for my mac without deleting my music and moves? is there a simpler way to put the movies on the ipod?

Do you use the iPod only on Macs? And is all your content still in your iTunes library?
If Yes to both those questions, go ahead and do a restore on the iPod which will erase it & reset everything to normal. And then you can sync back onto the iPod all your library content.
If you use the iPod on a Windows machine as well and all your content is somewhere on either computer that can be retrieved after restoring the iPod, then restore it on the Windows machine so it will be in windows format (a Mac can read a windows iPod, but Windows can not read a Mac iPod). After restoring, sync back the content from the Windows machine to the iPod, then put the iPod into manual update mode. Eject it, move it to the Mac and put content from the Mac onto it.

  • How do I change my Ipod from mac to windows format??

How do I change my Ipod from mac to windows format?? My Imac is not working at the moment, but I want to use my Ipod on my PC. How do I get my Ipod(mac formated) to get work on my PC??

Use iTunes on the PC to restore the iPod, or install XPlay on the PC without changing the format. Restoring the iPod will erase everything on it.

  • Transferring songs from a Windows-formatted iPod classic to iTunes on Mac

Hi everybody, I'm curious to see if this is even possible. My husband's Windows laptop died for the second time in three years, so he decided to switch to a Mac after seeing my MacBook last longer than both of his Windows laptops. :o) Anyway, now that the Windows hard drive is dead-and no, he didn't back up his songs to CD-he wants to transfer the songs on his Windows-formatted iPod Classic to iTunes on his Mac. I tried Yamipod, but it said "firmware unsupported" and quit-I suspect the Windows format had something to do with it. He has a lot of songs ripped from CDs and he doesn't want to lose them or have to spend time re-ripping them. Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

same thing happened to me. I purchased iPod Access from the internet (for about $15). This program will let you transfer your music and playlists from your iPod to your library

  • Formatting music from windows to a mac using third party app

i used a third party app so that i could download music from a pc onto my os x formatted ipod. initially it worked when i moved the music into my itunes library on my mac, but for some reason now a lot of the tracks won't play and my computer freezes if i press play on any track that originally was downloaded onto a pc. is there a way to identify where the songs came from and then delete then from the library without going through each one a seeing if it will play and then having to force quit itunes because it freezes?

From what I know, windows will not recognize the complicated data of a mac formatted device; hence not recognizing it. Macs can recognize a windows formated ipod though, so if you decide to reformat it on windows, then you can use it on both computers. If you dont though, looks like you are out of luck, sorry.
    Hope I helped.

  • How can I move my elements 9 files in windows format to elements 11 in Mac format?

How can I move my windows 9 files in windows format to elements 11 in Mac format?

I guess this is what I want to do.  I have jillions of photos that were transferred in a Windows version of photoshop (many different versions) plus some that were transferred from my iPhone and also in Nikon Transfer (before I started using Photoshop).  Then I got the brilliant idea that I wanted to start using Mac for all of my photo projects and I'm dead in the water right now because I can't figure out how to move all of these Windows based filed to the new Mac - especial since the I have a current mac version of Photoshop and the Windows version that I have is older.  I totally do not understand what a tly file is.

  • How to use Windows formatted iPod nano to move music to a new Mac?

    Hi all,
I need to transfer my iPhone's musics, songs, apps and photo, etc to the Mac and I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329" guide at Apple Support site since I owned a iPod nano.
My questions is since my iPod nano is configured for Windows will the Mac be able to read it since it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
If I follow through the guide, 1. Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use, 2. Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder, 3. Copy iTunes folder to iPod. I will still need to restore the iPod to work in Mac and end up nothing left inside meaning songs, photo all erased.
Also, anyone using third party software like http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ Can advise if it's good to use this? And if iPod nano configured for Windows can works with this?
Need other more solution other this to transfer the mentioned data to Mac.
    Thanks.

iPhone… iPod… iPod Nano… which one it is? You are trying to transfer music from what source, using what medium, and to what target?
    I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329"
it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
Where exactly is this stated? I am unable to find this statement in the KB article you mentioned. And are you talking iPhone or iPod? This KB article applies only to iPod.

  • Using a Windows formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with Bootcamp on a Mac(Win XP

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use a previously formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with a Mac that has XP Bootcamped on to it. If the Nano is placed in manually manage music with the original computer it was formatted with, will it be able to accept music, movies, podcasts, etc from the windows on the Mac or will they still be incompatible?

Well, I have 4 internal drive bays filled already, is there room somewhere for 5th one in the box? I wasn't aware of it if there is?? My mac is MacPro3,1, early 2008.
That macsales.com link is interesting but I'm not in the US (I'm in Croatia), and all those brands are supidly expensive here, that $80 esata docking station is almost $200 here... bahh. For that price I may as well buy a whole new 3TB external disk, I want to dock the old one to save money.
I've browsed around and I've found Icy Box docks, which have much more reasonable prices:
    BOX IB-110StUS2-B
    ICY BOX IB-111StUS2-Wh
    ICY BOX IB-115StUS2HC
They all claim to have OSX support... anyone have any experience with them?

  • IPod is formatted for windows but i need it formatted for mac

i just got my iPod a couple days ago used from best buy and hooked it up from my mac not aware that it was formatted for windows. when i try to restore my iPod it just freezes up my computer. do i really need it formatted for mac in order to get good performance?

Right. If you restored it in Windows the iPod will still be formatted for Windows.
Now see if you can restore it on your mac.
Also, know that Windows-formatted iPods work fine in Mac OS X. The only "problem" is that you cannot update the iPod's software on your mac if another software version is released. You would have to do that through Windows.
If you plan on using your iPod with both Operating Systems, you may want to keep it formatted for Windows.

  • Can i use windows migration assistant to transfer files from my windows formatted external hard drive to my mac?

I have a windows formatted external hard drive and a macbook pro. I was wondering if i could use the windows migration assistant to transfer files from my external hard drive to the mac

    No.
Just connect the drive to your Mac. The Mac can read most Windows formats (it cannot WRITE Windows New Technology File System (NTFS) formatted drives.

  • Formatted on Mac OS === how to use on Windows

I´m traveling, and want to use my ipod 4G on my friend´s computer - windows xp. But when I connect the ipod, iTunes says this "iTunes has detected an iPod formatted on Macintosh. You must reformat this iPod to use it on XP".
Is this for real???? Is there no way to use it without reformatting?
    Thanks!

Is your iPod actually Mac formatted or is this an incorrect message? If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed: How to determine your iPod's disk format
Apart from that, if it is genuinely Mac formatted then no you can't use it without reformatting it for Windows. The problem lies with the Windows OS, Macs can read Windows formatting so had you been working the other way around you could have connected a Windows formatted iPod to a Mac.
If it is Windows formatted and you are getting that message, try changing the drive letter associated with the iPod. You'll get details in this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Cannot backup Windows 7 (dual-boot) image to external HD (formated as Mac OS Extended)

I cannot backup my Windows 7 (dual-boot) image to my external HD (formated as Mac OS Extended). I installed MacDrive 8.0 hoping to solve the problem but Windows 7 gives me an error when I try to create a backup: "...drive is not formatted as NTFS, cannot use as backup...".
I also tried making an Image of the Windows 7 partition through Disk Utility but was not allowed to do so.
I am not sure where else to go from here. I need to keep my external hard drive formatted as Mac OS Extended but I also need to backup my Windows 7 partition. I only have the single external at the moment. Is there a way to backup my Windows 7 partition?
    Thanks

Winclone will backup your Windows partition to a Mac formatted drive.
Just search for Winclone on this forum and on Goggle.
