As a test, shut down (power off) your computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used). If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power). Do this to reset the shuffle

Start up the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer. Does this problem recur when the shuffle is the only USB device?
If it does (as another test), select the shuffle in iTunes, so that its Settings screen is showing. Check the box for Enable disk use, and Apply. Does that make any difference regarding this problem?

Computer freezes while transferring information

Hello - if anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it! I bought a new MacBook today and was using a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable to transfer files from my old computer (a Powerbook G4). It all started off fine and then seemed to freeze while transferring documents. The blue status bar was about 40% complete and the note at the bottom of the screen said "about 22 minutes remaining". Nothing was happening after about 45 minutes - so I hit "apple-Q" to see if I could reset it (probably a mistake!!), the rainbow spinning circle appeared for about 15 minutes, then went away, then I saw this: "Mac OS X has finished downloading, continue?" and so I clicked yes. That was about an hour ago and still I have the same frozen screen: Transferring documents, about 22 minutes remaining". HELP!!!

Thanks. After canceling the transfer (by unplugging the firewire cord) there was an error code that showed the names of the files it had trouble with. After deleting them, I was able to star the process over.
It seems to have done the trick. Thanks for your help!

ITunes for windows freezes while synchronizing nano 6g

Hello there. I have been a proud user of the 8GB 6g iPod nano for five months and never ever had eny problems with it until today.
I was about to add some more music and the sync process froze on "beginning synchronization". The spinning icon on ipod's screen appeared with "connected, eject before disconnecting" announcement, but nothing happened. iTunes stoped reacting to any clicking, dragging, anything, could be only shut down via task manager. Shut down or not, the ipod shows the same all the time, even after all system restarting, itunes reinstallation and stuff. The trouble doesn't appear when I just click "synchronize" without making any changes, but when I mark even one small track to add or remove from ipod, it freezes as posted above. I can still listen to the music and use al other features of both ipod and itunes, though.

Have you tried working through TS1717: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues?
I would imaging the difficulty with transferring purchases while offline is that iTunes can't phone home to check the authorization of the computer.

ITunes freezes while transferring TV season from Apple TV back to computer

I bought a season of a show on the Apple TV and it downloaded the entire season fine. When I open up iTunes and it starts syncing, it indicates that the computer is transferring the shows from the Apple TV back to the computer, but then iTunes freezes in the middle. The Apple TV appears to be fine. I'm currently running Custom Sync as the option.
I'm running 2.4 ATV OS, the latest iTunes (8.2) on a Windows XP. Network is a Linksys 54G wireless router.
I've looked at some things and have tried reauthorizing, rebooting, etc. It's a pain because I have some new content that I want to get on the Apple TV, but it defaults to transferring shows back before adding new content from iTunes onto the AppleTV.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the update, but that doesn't really help me since my computer (desktop) and my computer about about 50 feet from each other and I really have no desire to unplug either to sync. The reality is that this has been a problem with 2.4 since it was released a month and a half ago and there is no reason why Apple hasn't fixed it by now.
What this has led me to do is not download any shows to my AppleTV, I just buy them on my computer now and the downstream sync works fine.

i have a problem on my toshiba Satellite L840-A626 .. and tht is Adobe flash player update suddenly appeared on screen and i accidentally clicked update..
My laptop shutdown immediately then after that. Its always freezes in start up.. start up repair wont work and when i opened my laptop again its always a black screen displaying "starting windows". .. freezes again .. hoping for your response thnk you ... support team

You did not mention the system you are using now but the notebook was preinstalled with Win 7 system and I guess this OS is still in use on your notebook.
Therefore you should be able to access the Advanced Menu pressing F8 button while powering on the unit.
Then you should choose the option Repair my computer to enter the system recovery options menu.
Here you can choose different repair options like Startup Repair or System restore which helps you to set the OS to early time point before the update has been installed.

IPod Mini Freezes while transferring music

Hey all...
When transferring tracks from iTunes to my iPod Mini, iTunes seems to freeze after / during track #3 song transfer.
I've reset, restored, upgraded, done everything i've been reading.
I've even done a full MP3 libary scan for any corrupt mp3's, and have removed all 'suspicious' mp3s... with no improvemnt.
There is nothing wrong with the iPod being recognized by Itunes on my G4 Powerbook...
It just freezes...
No explanation.
Just freezes.
Any suggestions?

I am having a similar problem, as a lot of people appear to be. Those steps have not yet helped me. I'm trying again just in case.
I hope Apple fixes this problem, it appears to be widespread since the latest iPod and OS X updates, or maybe security updates or something.

Windows freezes while converting WMA's to M4A's

I am having a very difficult time converting my existing Windows Media inventory of music to the iTunes compatible format. When I use the "Add Folder" option it locates all of the files but will freeze after 20 or so songs. With almost 3000 songs on my computer, this will take forever this way. Any suggestions or help. Apple technical support couldn't shed any light on the situation for me.

I would do a search on the net to see if there are any free programs that will do that. If not, there are many programs that can do it, but the best thing to do is search the net and then rereviews on like CNet.com from users who have done it and how successful it was. I would only try one song and make sure the sound came out ok. To be hones, WMA are not as good as they are lead to believe. I have been in radio for over 30 years and we tested it but went back to mp3s for our music. Good luck.

Podcast freezes while transfering to ipod?

Hi,
I have subscriptions to half a dozen different podcasts, both video and audio and I have noticed with increasing frequency that when I get a new podcast downloaded to itunes fine without a problem but then try to sync my (5.5G 80gig video ipod) to the new p-casts the entire download will hang and I can’t force quit itunes, I can eject the ipod, the only thing left was to turn off and on the computer.
This problem first occurred on a National Geo video p-cast and I thought it was just a bad download so I deleted the episode and everything else download just fine.
Now this has happened to a couple CBC audio p-casts and has some randomness about when this problem decides to show up and it doesn’t matter if it is a video or audio p-cast.
Ok, so that is the case study, but I am at a lost for solutions to this problem other then a full restore of the ipod which I would like to avoid.

After three calls to apple care and restoring the ipod on another computer. I also unplugged the ipod cable from the USB hub, and plugged it straight into the Imac. I also unsubscribed to all p-casts and deleted all previous p-casts from itunes.
I then turned off any sleep settings and the screen saver and restarted the computer. I opened up itunes did a complete restore of the ipod, reloaded all the music and subscribed to all p-casts again without loading another program or doing anything but download to the ipod.
Everything downloaded without error and I am not sure which if any or all things I changed made any difference, but all is now working again.

Spaces: Word windows freeze when shifted to another space.

Having used Desktop Manager on Tiger for a couple of years, I was expecting a lot from Spaces.
I frequently want to shift windows from one space to another. Instead of ApplealtO (in DTM), I now have to open all spaces using F13 and drag and drop the windows, which would be acceptable, if it worked flawlessly. Problem is that if I drag multiple Word documents to a different space, some of the windows freeze, while others don't. I never had this problem with Desktop Manager.
Has anyone discovered a fix for this?

I have not uses Desktop Manager but I have had discussions with other users on this forum about two different ways of viewing how a virtual desktop should work.
The situation is that some people look at virtual desktops as being Workspace-oriented and some view them as Application-oriented, which is how Apple’s Spaces works. I would guess that Desktop Manager was Workspace-oriented and it will take some rethinking to adapt to how Spaces works.
Applications get assigned to specific Spaces and moving windows out of that specific Space to create a workspace is different from how Spaces was designed, and can result in unwanted behavior.
One way to get more workspace-oriented desktops is to assign the most frequently used applications to all Spaces. I have it set that way for the Finder and Stickies.

The best solution would be for Apple, in a future revision, to allow the user to select between the Workspace- or Application-oriented desktops by providing a button in the Spaces pane to choose between them. This might entail a lot of reprogramming, however.

Did you try and sync it with an address book on your computer that contained no entries at all? If so, then they are gone.
IF you backed up the phone before trying to do this, you may be able to recover some of the information using 3rd party software to try and extract it from the backup. I have no personal experience with any of these programs, so I'll leave specific recommendations to others who do.

I'm using Windows 8 Pro (64-bit), along with the desktop version (not the app). But I also recall having a bit of trouble with this on my laptop (Windows 7 home edition 64-bit) as well.
At random times in the middle of my typing, Skype will freeze. It will remain frozen for a few minutes. When this happens, I usually just minimize it and do something else and check back on it to see if it's working. It always unfreezes, I haven't had a crash yet. However, this is getting to be very annoying. It happens rather frequently and interrupts my chat with friends.
I have already made sure that skype is not running in ADMIN or DEBUG mode, etc etc. I'm also using the latest version of Skype.
What could be causing this? And how might I be able to fix it?

Using the Desktop version because, well, the modern version is unworkably stupid in too many ways to express.
30-60 second random freezes while typing. No crash. And call still work.
These type of Microsoft FAILS can surely drive a person to insanity.
Why do simple applications like these reduce in performance year after year wile doubling in file size many times over?

MSI P35 Neo-F (MS-7360): Computer randomly freezes while playing games

Hi there,
I have reached the end of my technical knowledge right now and I'm not even sure if this area of the forum is appropriate. The problem:
While playing higher-end games like Crysis 2, Anno 1404, Mass Effect 2 etc. my computer randomly freezes and the last few milliseconds of sound are being looped on my speakers (kind of like a buzzing sound).
By "freezing" I mean that my computer becomes unresponsive to any action other than pressing the Reset-Button or holding down the Power-Up-Button (no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, no mouse movement... you get it).
There's no exact timing as to when these freezes occur. The fastest freeze happened after less than a minute of playing a game, slowes one (just today after switching to my newer case with better cooling) took about 2 hours.
This freeze only occurs while my System is under load. No freezes while browsing the web, using office programs, listening to music or watching videos.
System Specs:
Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo-F (MSI-7360)
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2
Graphics: Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W (upgraded from Xilence XP600, 600W)
New CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13 Pro (upgraded from OEM Intel Boxed Cooler)
New Case: Zalman Z9 Plus w/ 4x 120 mm Fans (Upgraded from a Case with only 1x 250mm side Fan)
2 Western Digital HDD (1x 2TB, 1x320 GB)
1 DVD Reader/Burner (unimportant for that error I guess)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
2 Screens: 1x 24" Asus VS248H and 1x 21" LG Flatron Wide W2240T
Since this error is bugging me for quite a while now and since this is not the first forum I'm trying to get help from, here's a list of steps i already took to get rid of it, obviously to no good use:
reinstalled games where the freeze occurred
updated all Drivers (including cleaning old versions in safe mode; also tried older drivers)
updated BIOS to v1.A0
Reinstalled Windows
bought new Case and CPU Cooler to improve Air Flow/Cooling
checked Seating of all components (took out, cleaned, reapplied thermal grease where neccessary, re-inserted)
cleaned old case of dust (obviously no problem in the new case, which is 2 days "old")
ran 7 sequences of Memtes86+ without any errors
ran Prime95 without any errors for about 45 Minutes
ran Furmark for 15 Minutes under full load (burn-in test) without any problems, even though my graphics card hit the 100°C frequency-cut level
ran Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously without any problems
took records of component temperatures and system voltages without noticing anything unusual (at least not after i switched to the newer PSU, which is about 1 Month old - yet didn't resolve the problem)
tested with cyclic removal of 1 RAM device to further rule out RAM malfunction
tested with only 2 RAM devices in dual channel mode (Slots 1 and 3)
tried to reduce RAM clock (800 MHz --> 667 MHz) to no avail
checked S.M.A.R.T. values of HDDs, no issues reported
tested without any background programs
raised/lowered voltages to RAM, CPU and Chipset in BIOS to increase logic circuit stability/decrease heat production
I need to mention: After I transferred my system to the new case, i was able to play longer than average compared to my old case. So I am guessing that improper cooling was part of the problem, yet improving cooling obviously didn't resolve it.
Since these freezes are really annoying and nobody could help me resolve this so far, I'm hoping to find some new ways of narrowing down the problem or even getting rid of it here.

Yes, I monitored CPU and RAM usage, there is no recognizeable pattern to be seen and it almost never happens under full load.
I will see if a friend of mine can test my GPU on his computer, and I will test it underclocked right away.
Though one more question regarding that: Should I only underclock GPU Core Clock or both Core and RAM clock?
