Windows games on intel macs

will windows games now be able to play on intel macs?

No. It isn't the processor that dictates whether software may be used, but rather the operating system. Only Mac software will run on the new iMac, either as universal application, or under Rosetta (by emulation). The only way to run a Windows-based game would be using Microsoft Virtual PC (which to my knowledge will not run under Rosetta), or, if someone was able to find a way to load and run the Windows OS on a new iMac.

It will never run in OS X. You need to install Windows on your machine.

  • Using Windows Peripherals on Intel Mac running windows

Is there any resources online listing compatible USD peripherals while running Windows on an Intel based MAC.
I am about to finally migrate completely to MAC with purchase of a MAC mini to replace my old Tosh laptop. In the past year I have managed to minimise the use of this laptop. Its only function now is to run SKYPE with my Linksys CIT200 cordless skype phone.
Antyone know if I can run windows on an Intel MAC mini and successfully load up the driver for this phone?

  • PC GAMES ON INTEL MACS???  Is it possible?

Is it possible to play PC games on an intel mac yet? In theory it should work since you can run it as a PC. I want to play that Battlefield 2142 game very badly.
Please tell if you know it's possible. Thanks.
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you're going to run a PC Game on a Mac, first I'd advise you to find out if the game is compatible with Mac, some great games like Warcraft 3 and the whole Blizzard game library since Starcraft offer an OS X installer that you can download from Battle.net, other large publishers have begun doing this as well, Domm 3, Half-Life 2, Call Of Duty 2, all run on Mac. However, there a some games that will most likely miss Mac, EA for example has never done a game for Mac, their latest C&C Generals was ported some 2 years after it's release for windows, also C&C 3 Tiberium Wars will be PC-only. Go here for more info http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ to find out what it is, and then here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303572 for instructions on how to install it.

  • Can I play a windows game on my mac air?

I have a game that came out recently, called "DayZ, standalone" and its for windows 7, my question is, can I play that on my mac air (late 2010) 1.4GHz intel core 2 duo / os x 10.9.1. It would be so helpful if I could know, thanks.

    Only by installing Windows.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Anti-Virus and Firewall Software for Windows (on my Intel Mac)?

    Hello,
I have just ordered my first Intel Mac, as well as my first copy of Windows XP. How ironic that I would be asking this on the Apple Discussions site, but what Windows anti-virus and firewall software is recommended? I want to be well protected on the Windows side.

    Templeton,
It is embarrassing enough that I am installing a copy of Windoze on my brand new Mac, not to mention voluntarily opening myself up to a host of viruses, spyware, and other PC garbage. If I can’t trust another Mac user for help here, then who can I trust?
Thanks for your mere comment. Now, anyone else with actual knowledge to share?

  • Compatiability to run Windows on New Intel Macs

Is it the plan for new Intel Macs to be able to run Windows-based programs without having to run emulation programs like VPC?

I work in Environmental Science and the amount of
programs for presenting and manipulating data are few
    and far between.
Have you looked here for software that you might be able to use?
Wouldn't this approach open up a lot of avenues for
Apple and make switching to Apple easier for people?
Perhaps, or it could make people think of a Mac as just an expensive Windows PC. And developers could say, "If Macs run Windows, then let's save some money by not making a Mac version of our software." And consumers will probably post questions here about how their Windows program won't run right on their Mac, or call Apple asking for Windows support, or get all upset because Windows crashed their Mac and erased all their data and blame it on Apple...
Apple has said that they will do nothing to prevent Windows from running on Intel-based Macs, but they will also do nothing to facilitate it. This means that if it is at all possible to run Windows on your Intel-based Mac, doing so will be totally unsupported by Apple.

  • Playing windows games on the Mac

What's the best way to play windows games,, through VMware or Parallels? Or maybe through boot camp? Im trying to play NHL 08.

Use Boot Camp. Virtualization is not ideal for games.

  • How well do windows work in Intel Macs?

On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 meaning excellent, in your experience how well does windows truly work in your mac? Would you describe it as sufficient, tolerable, wonderful or a waste of time?

I have to take points away, 98% out of 100% for lack of drivers and driver support,
Lack of good fan thermal management.
    Otherwise, fine.
The lack of the PC BIOS and use of UEFI instead, which also is what mandates the use of GPT and therefore a "hybred" MBR.
I wish I had a good link to Geekbench for comparison of MacBook Pro models running both Mac OS and Windows, and then there is a section for PC hardware.
You will also see the stray Hackintoush models thrown in as well.
    Windows graphic drivers
File system and disk management handling
    support for SSD
Windows on those laptops will use the part of the drive platter/tracks that is the slowest, often 60% of what the outer tracks achieve.
Getting games, drivers, audio needs a bit "hand-holding" but then most PCs have their own issues as well. RAM timing, voltage, compatibility, etc. to marry memory + motherboard + BIOS to get everything right.
All depends on the Mac. What you do or use. The quality of the applications etc but that is more "OS" issue than platform + hardware.
My Mac is a workstation and is so easy and similar to a PC mid to full tower EXCEPT it will run warmer due to lack of fan control.
Windows 8 may only be in Preview for now but it is very nice and promising. Some eye candy, but real tweaks under the hood gone in. Could be as much as there was from Vista (cough) to Windows 7. And 8 now in its state is as much or more than Windows 7 RC was, so that is a lot.
I would say "it" is all those things you described. Sometimes all of that on the same mac.
But if you really run Windows primarily which many do, but like the hardware, and the Air is nice and cost is impossible to beat.... might want a true Windows PC laptop. Thunderbolt technology is something Intel has said this month to the PC. Along with PCIe 3.0 and SATA 3 6G. SATA3 had a bumby year on PCs and Apple didn't escape, 2011's have had their problems and why they have refreshed and changed chips and design so many times this year alone. Kudos.
If you want to use SSD, mixed bag. Windows has better support. Apple has not always supported 3rd party and yet been slow (now changed or transitioning). And even Intel SSDs had to have firmware updates for everyone, and once more, to work properly on Mac hardware. Complex little buggers.
Don't generalize. How does CS5.5 run on XYZ? there too depends on RAM, processor/cores speed and efficiency, and type;/number of drives.
How do games play?  again, some of them get lost and confused by the Intel 3000 graphics and don't switch to the discreet graphic chip the same or as well.

Hi I Was Wandering How To Play Old Mac Games Eg: Marathon As I Get The Error "You Cannot Open The Application Because Its Not Supported On This System".

  • How do I play windows game on my Mac without downloading windows on my mac?

I know this is probably impossible, but there are a few pieces of software I'd like to install but they are for PC only. I'd love to know how to install them on my Mac without having to get something like Parallels and downloading Windows on my Mac. Is there any kind of software that can "convert" it or anything?

    You don't.
Sure there are a few games that will run sort of something using Codeweavers, but for the most part you need Windows completely and for performance, in BootCamp.
Running Windows in virtual machine software is about 1/5th the performance of direct boot into BootCamp. But for most other apps that are not power hungrey, it's good enough and easier than having to direct boot hassle.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
And for the best gaming machine, a Windows 7 tower is the one to use, Mac's can't upgrade their video cards like 3D games require from time to time. There are no/little video card upgrades for the MacPro, but on Windows there are a insane amount of video card upgrade possibilites for the fastest play.
You'll get about 1-2 years of online gameplay running Windows on a Mac, then the video card will get you and you'll be fragbait.

  • Music library from Mini (windows formatted) to Intel Mac Book

My daughter's windows computer crashed hard the other day. She has all her music on her mini and we want to transfer the music from the mini to the Intel MacBook. I've been unable to find any software that does this transfer. There are lots that will move from a Mac formatted mini to a Mac computer, or from a Windows formatted mini to a Windows-based computer, but none that I've found that will do the transfer from Windows to Mac directly.
    Any suggestions?

  • Windows 98 on Intel-Mac

I would like to know if Windows 98 can run on a new Intel-iMac.
I now have a Power Mac G4 with a SCSI card used for a Nikon dia scanner. If I switch to an iMac I cannot, obviously, use a SCSI card anymore but I could use a USB/SCSI converter that I already have. The problem is that the scanner/converter combination works only with Windows 98, hence my question.
    Thanks for an answer,

is it possible to upload, and use, a windows 98 operating system?
Both Parallels Workstation and VMWare Fusion will run Windows 98.
Paralles substitutes Booth Camp or sits on top of it?
Neither, really. Parallels Workstation and VMWare Fusion both are "virtualization" technology which run the guest operating system as a process within Mac OS X. Neither are a true "substitute" for Boot Camp which runs Windows as a native operating system for the Mac hardware and so provides better performance. For many people, the slightly lower performance of Parallels and VMWare are acceptable and provide the benefit of not having to reboot the Mac whenever you want to switch operating systems.
Since Boot Camp won't run Windows 98, Parallels Workstation or VMWare Fusion are your only choices.

  • Windows games on a Mac???

    Okay so I just bought the newest MacBook Pro. 2.2 ghz core 2 duo 2 gb ram 120 gb hard drive. I have bootcamp and did the parallels stuff. I can load windows and mac. Now my problem is;
    1) I can't get Windows to detect the airport connection or the ethernet connection.
    2) I've installed Sims 2 for windows onto the Windows parallel side and when I try to play it, it tells me that it doesnt detect a graphics card that supports direct X 9.0 or sometime. Now I'm thinking, "shouldnt my graphics card be good enough being that I just bought this Macbook Pro [from a retail Apple store]"
    Any ideas or solutions??

I received a reply for a ? similar to this by posting to the Parallels forum. I was told that Parallels supports DirectX 8.1. However, someone else posted that they loaded v. 9.0. Register in the Parallels forum (http://forums.parallels.com) to post questions. One of the posts discussing this topic is: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=12428&goto=newpost.
Hope this helps. I haven't found time to finish getting games to work yet. Let me know how u do.

  • Hello, i need to know if there is any way to use windows games in my mac without install a windows os?

i want to play some games but i dont want to install any windows OSs, could you help me please.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can try CrossOver, that allows you to install Windows apps in OS X. However, it doesn't always work, so it's possible that games don't work.
If it doesn't work, you have to install Windows with Boot Camp. You will get the best performance
