  • Disabling the F1 Windows Help and Support key

Hello! I see there's lots of people that have been having this problem, but I felt I was in a unique (HA) position in that I have a Windows 8 OS, so the problem can't be solved following the steps to a Windows 7 solution. I've tried several things.
First off, background; I have an HP 2000 laptop running Windows 8. I have wanted to use the function keys in a video game, but they were set as macromedia function priority. I went into BIOS and switched the action keys to DISABLED so that I could use FN+F
Key in order to use the macromedia, and instead they revert to normal function. This is fine. BUT: It only worked for F2-F12. The F1 key is still mapped to open Windows Help and Support. I've tried to rename the helppane.exe (I am admin but only "Trusted
Installer" can modify the file), and ran into problems. SO I tried to follow the steps to use regedit to block the helppane.exe, but the .exe isn't located where it is on a Windows 7 machine.
I have been working to try to find a solution to this problem for going on hours now, with no recourse. ANY solutions would be very welcome. Thank you.

You sure you already save after changing setting in BIOS
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02035108&cc=id&dlc=en&lc=en
If yes, find your model in HP site and find the update BIOS, update your BIOS, and try again
since this PC OEM. HP will provide better answer for you, and if you keyboard also comes with extra software I suggest to uninstall it first to check

  • Windows Help and Support screen glitch? And keyboard malfunction! Help!

I have 3 problems. At the log in screen of my hp stream notebook 11, I wasn't able to complete my password due to a malfunction in one of the keyboard keys. I shut down the computer and came back later to try again. It worked but when I logged in, the Windows Help and Support screen kept repeatedly popping up even when x'd out. I would let it repeatedly pop up (like a glitch) and I would x it out and it would go away. Also as I was typing in anything (wordpad, internet, search), every other key letters and numbers were acting as shortcuts to different screens such as apps, the log in screen, control panel etc. then the Windows Help and Support screen would pop back up again as a glitch. Please help!

    Hi @aaliyah22
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
You mention three different issues, and I am happy to assist with this. Obviously we need to start with the keyboard. As it is just the one key you describe as  a problem, I would try a cleaning. You could see if some compressed air helps first as some debris may have gotten into it. Also you can look at these two pages and see if anything helps.
    Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
    Cleaning your Notebook PC
The other two problems sound a lot like something like a software or possibly a malware related issue, but you can start with trying a system restore to a point before the problem began and see if that helps.Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
Then take a look at these.

  • Windows Help and Support Message box keeps popping up

I am not really sure what happened but my keyboard stopped working.  It kept typing out random letters and not the ones I typed.   At the same this "Windows Help and Support" box started popping up.  So, I can't use my keyboard but the pop up window keeps interuping Netflix and vidoes and I can't watch them and  Word documents.  Pretty much anything I do gets interupted by this box and stops whatever I am trying to which is trying to build a website at the moment.
I uninstalled the support.   It no longer appears in my program list but the box still keeping popping up and stopping everything I am doing.
What I am suppose to do?  It doesn't say its the HP Support it says "Windows Help and Support" at the top of the box.
    I have tried everything.

  • Cannot contact Windows Help and Support Centre as I receive the message "An ActiveX control on this page is not safe, your current settings prohibit running unsafe controls on this page". My ISP says this is a Mozilla incompatibility?

I run Windows XPSP2, my ISP is BT Broadband, security suite is BT NetProtect Plus which is essentially a McAfee product. I am having trouble with a printer connection - when I turn it on I receive a message "USB Device not recognised". I have done usual things turned off, unplugged, replugged with identical lead that is known to be OK, uninstalled software and tried to reinstall from CD (cannot complete as message recived again as oon as I turn on printer). Final solution is to click on this message as it advises to obtain USB troubleshooting advice from Microsoft Help and Support Centre. This is when I get message in my original question which prevents me going further. I have accessed Windows/Contol Panel/Internet/Security and set level to medium but this makes no difference. Contacting my ISP, I was told this was an incompatibility issue with Mozilla. If so I have no way of finding out what my connection problem is.

ActiveX is an Internet Explorer plugin system and will not work on Firefox or many other browsers. To use ActiveX you will need to use Internet Explorer.

Does anyone know how I can stop this happening.

Hello SaravSB, welcome to teh HP Forums.
I see that you're having an issue where the Windows help and support is popping up. I will try to help you with this.
I've looked into this for you, it seems this was an issue from back when Windows 7 launched. Any "solutions" also seemed to vary user to user. You may want to try contacting Microsoft for support on this. I was able to find a couple of posts off the answers.microsoft.com forums.

    Hello
I found a simple yet effective solution for this problem, my friend had the same issue so instinctively as a technician, I suspect this was a malware of somekind so I re-formatted and installed Win7 funny it's still there, so I did a Hard disk wipe using Dalvik's and re-partitioned and formatted again, to my surprise it still have the same problem.
So I ask Mr. Goo' old Mr. Google for answer, but I've found more complications, sorry for the story, so without further a do, the solution.
Boot to safe mode. (may also work in "normal mode")
    Go to Task Manager>
    Click the Services Tab>
Right click "HelpPane.exe" or Help and support service>
    Select Properties>
    Click the Security tab>
Click the Advanced tab (for permissions options)
Then select the "permissions entries" one at a time>
    Click Change Permissions>
    Then click Edit>
CLEAR ALL THE CHECK BOX FOR ALL ENTRIES
This should prevent access to the HelpPane.exe to all users/programs.
This resolved my friends Windows 7 "Help and Support thingy" issue, hope it does yours too.
Message me for questions and/or clarifications/corrections.
    Thank you"

To fix the problem of the help pane appearing everytime you start windows do the following:
    1. Run 'msconfig'
    2. Go to the 'Startup' tab
    3. One of your 'Startup items' is causing the pane to appear and you are going to have to find out which one it is!  Untick ALL the items and reboot.  The help pane will not appear harrah!  Rather than adding the Startup Items back in one at a time and rebooting a hundred times, tick half the programs back in and reboot.  You can find the culprit in about 5 reboots if you do it logically and add/remove half/quarter etc at a time.
    4.  Finally you will be left with all your Startup items ticked and the guilty program unticked (and that annoying help pane will no longer be appearing)
    5. Now delete the guilty Startup Item from the registry (which will also remove it from the msconfig startup tab.
    6. Open 'regedit'
    7. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg and delete the guilty program folder.  BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST!
    8.  You're welcome."
Both of those, as well as other steps are located in this thread: Windows 7 "Help and Support" keeps popping up.
You could try those suggestions and even give that thread a read over, other wise the best option would be contacting Microsoft as stated above.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • What is up with the Help and Support Section for Business Catalyst?

It has been very difficult for my customers and myself to access the help and support section of the site for Business Catalyst issues as we are constantly diverted to non-related Abode issues. The portal for support on Business Catalyst issue needs to be ISOLATED from ADOBE's main support section. It is bad enough that there are so many issues to deal with, but to add all the issues for all the applications is simply impossible to decipher and discover a solution.
Before the Adobe integration on the Cloud services it was much more simpler, wiith a much more efficient and cleaner layout, now every page looks like its generated by a bot that doesn't understand what I am looking for. Even the actual URL of the page is hidden so I can't even book mark it without opening the frame in a new window. My clients will not know how to do that.
    Simplify plesase!

OK.  If both of you are Windows 7.  Make sure you go to Windows update (START button, type in Windows Update). Check for updates and update whatever that are available. (especially Microsoft .NET Framework 4 )
After that see if you still get this error message.
The last resort would be to unistall and reinstall the whole thing.
    Follow the steps below:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

It sounds like there is an issue installing iTunes and other Windows updates on your PC. The article linked below provides troubleshooting suggestions that will resolve most issues like the one that you've described.
