Windows installer crash....unable to return to OS

I tried to load windows 7 onto my Mac via boot camp, and the installer crashed. Every time I restart my computer it sends me to windows error recovery, and the option key does not work. Any suggestions?

Mmm, when option key doesnt work I get highly suspect.
Are you sure you're holding it down (and nothing else) as soon as you turn your system back on?
Try holding down the OTHER option key just incase it's a simple mechanical issue.
I'm guessing you are using a wireless keyboard here also? I don't trust those.

How can I resolve this issue?

What do you see in event logs?

  • Windows Installer SourceList Update Cycle : How it works?

Windows Installer SourceList Update Cycle : How it works?
    Regards, Firoz Ahmad (Cheeeeeerrrrssssss)

    Hello,
Windows Installer Source List Update Cycle causes the Product Source Update Manager to complete a full update cycle. When you install an application using Windows Installer, those Windows Installer applications try to return to the path
they were installed from when they need to install new components, repair the application, or update the application. This location is called the Windows Installer source location. Windows Installer Source Location Manager can automatically search Configuration
Manager 2007 distribution points for the source files, even if the application was not originally installed from a distribution point.
Is very nice to use this features. The agent on the local computer will scan the registry. When he found a MSI product code that is define in SCCM, it will update the source for the MSI.

  • Unable to install itunes 10.5 after update issue. "windows installer package error"

So when the update for itunes happened, it wiped my ipod, and then my ipod would not work with itunes. So I uninstalled itunes and tried to reinstall it and it gives me that error message. "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have tried all the fixes from deleting everything to running command prompts. I think i tried everything.
Method 1: Right click on the setup file and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator'
Method 2: Open command prompt in elevated mode and, then unregistered and re-register Windows Installer.
    1. In the Start search box and then type 'cmd', when the command application appears at the top of the start window, right click on it and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator' and type each of these commands in the command prompt and press Enter
       • msiexec /unregister
       • msiexec /regserver
msiexec.exe belongs to the Windows Installer Component and is used to install new programs that use Windows Installer package files (MSI)
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Command-Prompt-frequently-asked-ques tions
Method 3: Start the Windows Installer service
    1. Click Start, type Services.msc and press {ENTER}
    2. Double-click Windows Installer
    3. Set the Startup type of Windows Installer to Manual
    4. Click Start to start the service. Note down the error message if any.
    5. Click OK.
If the above mentioned steps don’t resolve the issue, then
follow the steps and check whether you can resolve the issue:
Method 4: Empty your Temp directory and restart
    1.       Choose Start > Computer
    2.       In Computer, open the "C:" drive.
    3.       Open the Users folder.
    4.       Double-click the folder titled with your username.
    5.       If you see an AppData folder, skip to step 10. If you don't see an AppData folder, proceed to the next step.
    6.       Choose Organize > Folder and Search Options.
    7.       Click the View tab.
    8.       Select the option to "Show hidden files and folders." (In Windows 7 this option will be called "Show hidden files, folders, and drives").
    9.       Click OK.
    10.    Double-click the AppData folder to open it. If Windows needs your permission to continue click Continue.
    11.    Double-click the Local folder to open it.
    12.    Right-click on the Temp folder and choose Delete.
    13.    In the confirmation dialog that appears click Yes.
    14.    If you are unable to delete the Temp folder, close all programs, especially those in the Notification area ("System Tray") of the Windows Task bar and repeat step 12.
    15.    Restart your computer.
    Method 5: Removing iTunes
Note: iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes.
    1.       Quit iTunes.
    2.       From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    3.       In Control Panel, click Uninstall a program. The Programs and Features Control Panel opens.
Alternately, in Classic Panel of Control Panel, click Programs and Features.
    4.       Select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs, then click Uninstall.
    5.       When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, click Yes.
    6.       After the uninstallation is complete, do not restart your computer if you are prompted to.
    7.       If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Programs and Features remove those as well.
    8.       In Programs and Features, also remove any iPod Updater applications that are listed in the same fashion as you removed iTunes.
Method 6: You may also try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and run that to remove the leftover ITunes installer files that may be causing issues with your current installation.
You may refer the following article to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    1. Click on Start > All Programs and then click Windows Install Cleanup; the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    2. Select iTunes from the list and click Remove. If you have multiple iTunes files, remove all of them.
    3. Once you have completed the above steps to Empty your Temp directory, Completely remove iTunes and QuickTime, and Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer, you can install the latest version of iTunes from

I was able to install quick time just fine. All of the other apple software associated with itunes installed fine but itunes did not. Im not sure if there is a virus that could do this. I didnt delete anything but apple folders.
I have tried other things but i cant remember exactly there were.
When the install process for itunes is running it changes with the error message shows up during install.
    Thanks.

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.

itunes 64 bit on windows 7 is unable to install, i have the 64 bit installer version but it keeps saying "errors occurred" at the ( rolling back ) phase. HELP!!!

I have the answer and this might be useful for any one else wondering about this in the future. If it helped you or explained what you wanted to know. Replay to the post pls
It's quite easy actually. First have your "iTunes Library Extras", "iTunes Library Genius", "iTunes Library", and "iTunes Music Library" backed up. Download ans install iTunes 64-bit. I don't know what's so 64-bit about iTunes 64 since Win7 reports it as a 32-bit application in the task manager. But anyway. Install iTunes 64 and launch it. If you migrated your library to another drive like me go to settings in iTunes and change the directory to your location. Close iTunes. Replace the newly created files with your backed up files. Launch iTunes. iTunes will load and then update your library and from there you are set to go! so basically it is just like a normal upgrade. But if you hesitated to go from 32 to 64 like me, here is your answer.
By the way. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 64-bit and it works without problems and syncing with my iPod Touch also works flawlessly.

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Unable to install iTunes 10.5 on Win 7 laptop - "Problem with Windows Installer program"

I get the following when trying to install version 10.5
I have uninstalled everything Apple, emptied temp files, restarted the computer and I'm still unable to install the lasted iTunes.
    Any thoughts?

    1. Go to softpedia.com
    2. In the search box in softpedia.com web site type in 'Windows Installer Cleanup Utility'. Click on GO
3  On the next page, at the bottom you will see in blue 'Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 2.5.0.1 by Microsoft'
4 Click on that link and it will take you to another page. On the left side you will see a 'download' button in blue colour. Click on that button and it will take you to the next page.
5 Click on link that reads: 'Softpedia Mirror (US) exe', A download window will appear. Click on 'save file'.
6 Install 'Windows Installer ClenaUp Utility' program.
7 After installing program, open up the program and scroll down the list till you find 'Apple Software Update'
8 Highlight it and click remove.
9 Now you can install itunes 10.5
This is exactly what I did and it worked for me like a charm. I even updated my iphone with IOS 5 tonight.
There is another way which I learned later which is easier and faster. I am running Windows 7. Go to 'Control Panel'. Scroll down to 'Programs and Features' and click on it. Scroll down till you see 'Apple Software Update' and right click on it and click 'uninstall' and then install itunes 10.5. That should work also. I've heard that some people can't see it in control panel so the other way would be to do as I did and download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. I hope I've made this as simple as possible for you. Good luck.

  • I am unable to install iTunes due to Windows Installer error message on Vista

I needed to update my iTunes since I purchased the iPad2.  My Windows Vista machine will not allow me to update the program due to a "Windows Installer" error message.  I first attempted to update, then I uninstalled and am unable to reinstall the software."There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run..."

I finally got the program to install/run.  I downloaded a third copy and saved it again on the desktop.  I selected "Run as Administrator" instead of "Run"  It must have been the 10th plus time I tried to install, but this time it completed.  I don't know if the "Run as Administrator" was the key since it is Vista, or if I just got lucky. Either way I am relieved.

The Installer crashes, then it surely should be something to do with memory issue...or the explorer.
    Is your windows xp stable?
plus do you have enough free space in your c drive ?!
It has nothing to do with the OS admin..login...
The installer is exiting and should be an OS resource issue..
i would have checked for space and memory ...then looked at my OS. Any back ground crazy internet programs running....
I would look at OS since oracle successfully installs in windows xp without a hitch!

Yes, I had found a similar solution also.  I'm running XP Pro, SP3.  I went Control Panels/ Add-Remove programmes/apple software update/ change/ repair.  Then run the 10.5 exe.
While the programme updated from version 8 of iTunes, my new iTunes is now a mess.  Not all of my music was in the same folder previously but it all showed up on iTunes.  Now many albums have been left out, some have only a few tracks and some have two copies of some tracks as well as having other tracks missing.  I haven't begun to work on that.

  • ODBC: Oracle Universal Installer Crash on Windows 7 (Workaround found)

Clicking 'next' on first screen in the 10g installer makes the installer crash, showing a message 'Abnormal program termination. An internal error has occurred. Please provide the following files to Oracle Support: "Unknown" "Unknown" "Unknown". Goal for the moment is just to install ODBC. The read me in the ODBC driver 10.2.0.2.0 .exe says: This section assumes the following: Oracle Universal Installer shipping with 10.2.0.0.0 has already been installed on your system. Presuming that 10.2.0.0.0 is referring to another ODBC installer, this exe is not available, so how to install this? Since the installer from 10g is crashing, tried older ones, without success. What is going on? Is it a windows setting somewhere? How to just simply install the Oracle ODBC? Really no problems installing any other software. Avoiding of space in pathnames does not make any difference. Selecting optionbutton 'basic installation' and 'advanced installation' in installer gui both crash when continuing with 'next' ('advanced' does not have any values in that stage).

How to just simply install the Oracle ODBC?Probably what you're after is an oracle client install, no need to install a database if you just want ODBC. There is a small Express client on the XE download page, although I'm not sure if it includes ODBC drivers. The full 11g client software is at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/112010_win32soft.html
There is a support note 781054.1, if you're on 64-bit hardware with some how-tos on getting to the 32 bit ODBC drivers.
