  • Windows installer will not install ITunes 7 or Quick Time

I previously ran iTunes 4 with an earlier model iPod. Recently upgraded to iPod for video which was not recognized by iTunes 4. Attempted to download updated iTunes software and continue to be unsuccessful. Here's what happens:
I am able to download both iTunes 7 and QuickTime to my hard drive, but when invoke the respecive .exe files I get the same error message which reads, "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I have never heard of the respecive.exe file in regards to itunes or ipod. Are you sure you followed the troubleshooting steps word for word? I've had some people read the follow, "Empty your temp folder contents" to mean delete the temp folder. You have to be careful to follow them closely. I still sometimes have to reread some steps only to find out I didn't read it correctly the first time.
With that said, how do you know its a windows installer problem? If you were installing itunes & QT using their standalone installers there won't be a file called respecive.exe for either. You should be launching itunessetup.exe to install itunes (which can possibly contain QT). I forget what the standalone QT installer is called but I know it isn't respecive.exe.
Here are the steps I suggest to people who have trouble installing itunes. Please read them over first and ask a question if something isn't clear.
    1. Uninstall itunes and ipod software
    2. Reboot your PC
    3. Re-download the itunes installer and QT and save this installer to your desktop
    4. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations. You should see folders like {06EB3288-C5F4-4C73-8EEE-AC798668FF66}
    5. Look in each of these folders for itunes.msi and delete the folder. Be careful to only delete the folders containing itunes, msi
    6. Clean out your temp folders, Delete as much as you can in these folders except for the folders Cookies, History, Temporary Internet Files.
    a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
    b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
    7. Go to http://www.download.com/3000-2094-881470.html and download the regcleaner. Unpack it and run it. This is a nice utility that will delete broken registry entries and create a file with them. This way if it deletes anything needed you can add it back. Note I never had to do this with using it for many years. Also it doesn't list XP but you'll be fine. I run XP on both.
    8. Reboot your PC.
    9. Now try to go and install everything again. I'd do QT first then follow with itunes. Remember to disable virus/firewall/privacy/web accelerators before launching the install.

  • Windows 7 installation will not recognise the Bootcamp disc!

I have a 2008 Macbook running Snow leopard.
Installed Win 7 via bootcamp but when I insert the Mac Snow Leopard disc to install the Bootcamp drivers etc after the Win 7 install has succeeded, the Windows 7 installation will not recognise the disc!
    Any ideas
    Thanks in advance

If you used your Leopard DVD then it won't work.
As ScuseMe said only the OSX Snow Leopard DVD contains the drivers for Windows 7.

  • My new computer with Windows 8 will not recognise my ipod..

Has any one had problems with Windows 8 recognising a 4th generation ipod.  When I go to itunes it wont sync.

Try one or more of the following:
    Restart your computer
    Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes
Reset iOS device (will NOT delete everything)
Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if iTouch shows (should show as a digital camera)
Restore iOS device (will delete everything)
Make sure iTunes and/or iOS firmware is up to date.

  • Window Vista will not recognised my Iphone any fixes?

Upon updating my Itune to 9.1.1 my Iphone will not be recognized any longer and a tool bar pop up message comes up. _*“USB device not compatible…”*_ I’ve removed Itune and reinstalled it and still not fixed. I have two Window Vista running computer and both does the same thing. Need help or is there any patch to fix this?

Go to Apple's iTunes page and re-download iTunes. Once installed, the build number should be iTunes 9.1.1 (12), and the syncing bug should go away. This new build isn't being pushed out to people who downloaded iTunes 9.1.1 (11), so it won't show up in Software Update; you'll have to go get it manually.

  • Windows Installer will not load on Late 2007 MBP (3,1)

I am trying to install Windows on Boot Camp on my Late 2007 2.4GHz MBP running Snow Leopard. I ran the Boot Camp Assistant, created a 50GB partition, loaded my Windows disc into my drive and had it reboot to start the installer. The white boot screen loads, the cd drive spins up and after several seconds, goes to a blank (black) screen with absolutely no text or cursor. Shortly after, the cd drive spins down and then the fans speed up a bit. I never see the Windows Installer load up.
Initially I was trying to install Windows 7 x86, which I am aware is not officially supported at this time. However, the exact same thing happens when I try to use a Vista SP2 x86 disc and a Windows XP disc (non-SP2, but I would expect it to at least boot up the installer). All three of these discs should be able to boot up the installer and yet none of them do and all work fine when booted on a PC or in a virtual machine.
All I have seen online is problems with black screens after the Windows system has been installed, which is not my problem. I have also seen descriptions of a blank screen with a cursor or an error saying "No Bootable Disc Found". This is also not my case. Immediately following the typical white boot screen, the screen becomes blank as if it is off.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I have the same computer, 17", same MacOS, W7 Home Premium, 32-bit. But I have a different W7 installation problem.
After the install gets going, the first reboot happens okay but when the "completing installation ..." stage starts, after a minute or so the install freezes. My basic wired mouse locks up and the "..." stops counting.
I made a new Boot Camp 80GB partition. The first was 100GB. Starting again, I switched to another W7 installer DVD but the same freeze happens.
I suspect there is a conflict in the installation with my particular hardware. Or perhaps, the SuperDrive cannot move to the next part of the DVD. I've not seen any SuperDrive problems before this so I doubt the SD is the problem. However, I do think the SuperDrive gets too hot during extended read sessions.

  • Windows 8 will not install itunes 11.1.3. Why?

I am currently trying to install itunes on my new laptop and it give me the error message, " This app can't run on your pc." I have downloaded the Windows 8 64 bit version 3 times and they all don't work. I have gone to 'My Computer' > 'Properties'  to see that I have Windows 8 64 bit. I have not idea what to do at this point. Please Help. Thank you.

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Installations will not recognize itunes.msi

My itunes was installed on my external drive, marked H: . The drive fried, and i am trying to install itunes on my harddrive, C:
I get an error message during installation:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click ok to enter again, or enter an alternate path to the foldercontaining the installation package “itunes.msi” "
I clicked ok to retry—no luck. This error message came up.
"the path c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\application data\apple\apple software\update\itunes.msi cannot be found. verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package “itunes.msi” "
I found the file "itunes.msi" in Windows\downloaded installations, and I cut and pasted it to c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\application data\apple\apple softwareupdate\ , and I pressed okay to retry, but even though the file is in the directory, the installer didn’t recognize it, and I got the message, “The older version of itunes cannot be removed. Contact your support group.” So, I had to cancel.
    Any suggestions?

When you get these types of message, you usually need to do an installer file clean up.
Here is a method for removal of iTunes and related components with clean up and reinstall.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

iTunes 11.2.2 for Windows x64 will not successfully install.  Removed prior iTunes, and still will not install. 10.7 installs just fine, but constantly asks to upgrade to 11.2.2.  Any Thoughts?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.
If needs be, the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") may be able to help force through the installation.

  • Itunes will not install..windows INSTALLER service not available.windows 7

I am trying to find a fix for this...just bought a new computer with windows 7, all updates have been performed. Itunes will not install...it just stops and says "windows installer service not available" Can't find a stand alone downloadable version of installer 5.0 which is what comes with 7 from the research I have done. I have the newest version of itunes saved on desktop, tried running it from desktop, tried running as admin, tried several other ideas that I found on here and Microsoft..but nothing is working. Any advice?

Same error message "This version is for a 32 bit computer, yours is a 64 bit!"
Doublechecking ... by any chance did you migrate a 32-bit version of the iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support and Bonjour programs to the 64-bit machine from a 32-bit machine using the PC Mover utility?
(Your symptoms are consistent with that ... the installer service throws the message when trying to uninstall the 32-bit itunes and related 32-bit componentry prior to installing the new 64-bit versions.)

  • Itunes will not recognise music on my ipod?

I have recently encoutnered a problem with my 5th generation 60gb ipod which I'm hoping someone can help me with?
When I plug my ipod into my computer and open itunes, it recognises that the ipod is plugged in, but asks me to set-up the ipod, like it is the first time I have used this ipod. Also it does not recognise any of the 5,000 or so songs on the ipod.
When my ipod is not plugged into my computer all 5,000 songs still appear on it and play with no problems.
For some reason itunes will not recognise the songs on my ipod - even though I have added them all with this software and about a third of them on this computer.
If I choose to proceed with the set-up of my ipod, I am afriad I will lose all 5,000 songs off my ipod.
Can anyone offer a suggestion - as it is, I either wipe my ipod or concede that I can't add any more songs to it, even though it is only half full.
Oh yeah, I have added all files to my ipod manually.
    Thanks!

With those symptoms, it's probably worth checking to see if you're getting a Windows drive letter confusion. For troubleshooting advice on that, see the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
