Windows Installer Wont recognize partition

Hi people,
I partitioned my Hard drive through boot camp with out any problems (the partition for BOOT CAMP is 20 gb)
When I go through the windows installer it only sees the one partition for the entire drive it is called untitled
Im not sure if i have the SP2, the disc is an MDG branded(that may be my problem) but doesn't say SP2 on it anywhere,
Please help me with this

Hi Paul,
to check if your XP CD is containing the SP2, you can look at the root directory of the CD for a file named 'win51ip.sp2'.
If it is there then SP2 is included if not, you can follow these instructions for 'slipstreaming' the SP2 http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp
I am not sure, what 'MDG branded' is, but it could be that the CD is not a single full installation CD but rather a 'Recovery-CD' which only works with the computer it originally came with.

Take a look at this MBP, a refurbished unit.  Don't let the late 2011 release date put you off.  For about  $500 less than an equivalent 'new' one with similar specifications you get a quad core CPU and excellent graphics.  As Steve359 mentioned, this can be upgraded if the need arises and has the same warranty as a 'new' one
I would not be surprised that these may actually be 'new' MBPs due to the length of time that they have been replaced by the current generation.  I purchased a 17" model about 5 weeks ago, and a serial number check suggests that it is 9 weeks old.

  • Windows Installer not recognizing partition!

Hey all, I just bought a macbook pro yesterday and have been trying my hardest to install xp viz boot camp. When I start boot camp, I set the partition to 32GB, then click partition. Then a boot camp icon appears on the desktop showing it is 32.11GB in size.
Next it says to put in the XP CD and click start installation. Do that computer restarts, then begins installing windows. However once it gets to the part of choosing which partition to put it on all it shows is c: with 1310xxx MB for the partition. Basically I think it is not seeing my boot camp partition for one reason or another.
I have tried multiple times removing the partition then re-creating it and doing it over and over and cannot seem to find out why the partition isn't being recognized. Any help at all would be great as it doesn't seem anyone has a solution to it. Thanks!

I am trying to install Bootcamp, I've followed the instructions up to this point:
    1
If you already quit Boot Camp Assistant without installing Windows:
    a
    Open Boot Camp Assistant.
    b
    Select “Start the Windows installer.”
    c
    Click Continue.
    2
If you are using a computer with more than one internal disk, select the disk on which
you want to install Windows, and then click Continue.
    3
    Insert your Windows installation disc.
    4
In Boot Camp Assistant, click Start Installation.
    5
Your computer starts up from the Windows installation disc. Follow the onscreen
instructions. Refer to the following sections for more information.
    Selecting the Windows Partition
It is very important to select the correct partition when installing Windows so that you
don’t overwrite Mac OS X on your computer.
To select the correct partition for Windows XP:
    m
    Select “C: Partition3 <BOOTCAMP> [FAT32].”
When I select the "C" partition by arrowing down, and hitting enter, I do not get the choice to format the partition that was initially created, what is going wrong?

  • My windows pc wont recognize my ipod

i downloaded the updater and itunes but the updater says "plug in an ipod to update it" even if it is connected and itunes also does not recognize my ipod

Ahh, Windows is fun! Try doing a right click on my computer then clicking manage. Expand disk management and make sure that you are able to see the ipod on the list of available drives and be sure that it's not interefearing with other mapped drives (if you have them).

  • Windows 7 wont recognize photos or videos from my iphone 5's.

    Greetings!
I pluged both my iPhone 5's into my computer running Win7. Upon being prompted to import pictures it will read "No new photos or videos found".
Not even Adobe Bridge will recognize that the phone has importable files.
    Any idea?

Was your phone backed up after the game but before the deletion?
You can restore from that backup.
If you do not use iCloud, iTunes will backup automatically before syncing.

  • Upgraded my macbook pro to mountain lion. But during windows installation, it refuses coz of FAT file system. Also is it possible to partition after windows installation???

I just upgraded my macbook pro to mountain lion. Now I want to install windows, but during installation using bootcamp, it says windows can't install on FAT partition. I couldn't change it to NTFS. Also how can I partition my hard disk after windows installation. Coz before windows installation, if I partition hard disk, it won't allow me to install windows saying startup disk can't be partitioned.......help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Now, I wish to upgrade from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 to latest version of OS X Yosemite, but I am in doubt and worry if after upgraded to Yosemite, can I still using my Windows XP where I installed now in Mountain Lion 10.8.5 BootCamp?
Yosemite does not allow a new installation of XP, but an existing XP installation is self-contained and will continue to work. Does your XP installation use a FAT partition? You may be better off using NTFS and then upgrading to Yosemite.
Will the Yosemite upgrade process delete my Windows XP partition or crash my current BootCamp? Can I still have an option to load OS X or Windows XP (press 'alt/option' key during boot up) after upgraded to Yosemite?
If you have made any re-sizing attempts to WXP partition Yosemite will cause problems, otherwise the Yosemite upgrade leaves XP untouched.
Are there any specific reasons to upgrade to Yosemite?

  • Win XP wont recognize the 400GB USB external HDD

I just bought a external 400gb hdd from toshiba,
    usb 2.0

says plug and play right on the box and windows xp wont recognize it.
The little blue led comes on, but nothing works at all.
The only thing that happened once, is I THINK xp recognized it as an MTP device.. which I got updates for, but still nothing.
I updated all my drivers, nothing seems to be working at all.
Please let me know how I can go about making this work.
    Thanks

    > The only thing that happened once is I THINK xp recognized it as an MTP device which I got updates for, but still nothing.
    What MTP means exactly?
Did you check if the external HDD needs an additional power supply?
Did you test it on different computers/notebooks?
Did you try to remove the HDD hubs and controllers from the device manager and rebooted the notebook in order to reinstall this devices??? If not -> do it

  • Vista wont Recognize my Zen Sleek at

I've seen a lot of posts and threads about people saying it wont work on their Windows Vista computers, but no one really has the problem I have. Windows Vista wont recognize my Creative Zen Sleek AT ALL. I plug it in, vista makes a sounds then nothing happens. The mp3 player is charging but nothing at all is happening. Can someone help please? I've been having this problem for months.

The thing is, I didn't install anything. When I got my new Vista computer, I plugged it in and everything worked fine. I couldn't install or can't install anything. The 3rd time I tried it wont recognize it at all. I plug it in and nothing happens.

  • Windows Installer Doesn't Recognize BOOT CAMP Partition

    Hello,
I need help and cannot find the answer anywhere on the Internet. I created a 15 gig Windows partition through boot camp successfully. My macbook restarted to run windows installer and I got through all of the screens except where it asks which partition I want to install windows on (Only gives the option of C: which is the size of my Mac OSX drive). I didn't want to install over that drive since it'll write over my Leopard OS. Does anyone know why it won't recognize the boot camp partition? I show the partition on my desktop and in my drive directory.
I also am using an old Windows XP CD that I am not sure if it has SP2 on it. I know we NEED SP2 but I'm wondering if the CD might not contain the SP2 then it won't recognize the partition (maybe the reason for needing SP2). I thought that it would still install it just wouldn't work if we updated to SP2... any ideas?!?
Thanks for any help in advance!

You do need SP2 or later, and even then, some discs do what yours did, don't prompt for target partition or give any option, AND auto select the full OS X partition.
Unless you can slipstream a full SP2 I'd shop for an SP3 disc, and make sure you aren't cutting the partition size short (and leaving 20% free on OS X at least afterwards).

  • Boot camp partitioned 32 GB for windows, but windows does not recognize it.

Tried today to install Windows XP on the Mac (hard disk = 320 GB) with Boot Camp 2.0.
Started the partitioning and left 20 GB for Windows, Boot Camp asked me to insert the Windows disk and start the installation. The computer started, the (ugly) Windows installation screen appears asking me if i want to install windows, repair windows or quit the installation. I continue with the installation and then it asks me which disk needs to be formatted. I saw only one option (red flag number 1) and moreover, this option stated that the disk mentioned was more than 132 GB (red flag number 2). Ignoring the red flags and quitting the installation, I continued. I formatted the disk and so on. All seemed to be going well. Then the computer restarted but ended up being in a loop (entering the windows installation screens and restarting the computer). It took a while till I figured out how to stop this loop and with the installation disc of Mac OS X I found out with disk utilities that the whole disc had been formatted (oh no!). With disc utilities I managed to format the whole disc again to make it suitable for a clean installation of Mac OS X and corrected the mistake which had been made.
Now - more cautious - having the clean Mac OS X installed I tried it again. This time I let Boot camp create a partition of 32 GB for Windows. Again I put the installation disc of Windows in the Mac and started the installation. Again, however, the Windows installation showed one disc with 132 GB on it. This time I quit the installation leaving it the way it is. The computer restarted and I let it boot into Leopard with the Alt/option key. There I see that Boot Camp seems to have done a good job. The 32 GB disk (MS Dos, FAT32) exists as a partition and there seems nothing to be wrong with it.
Who knows how to solve the problem with Windows which does only recognize one disc of 132 GB? Or who knows why the windows installation recognizes this as such?

This problem is caused by a Windows XP install disc without Service Pack 2.
    How to solve this problem?

  • Windows 8 installation w Bootcamp: partitioning doesnt work

    Hello,
I try to install windows 8 with Boot Camp on a brand MBA 2013.
At the step "Create a Partition for Windows" I select the size of the partition, click install and then ..... Nothing happens. The progress bar under "Status: Partitioning disk..." is animated but actually nothing moves: the progress percentage stays to zero and nothing happens during hours.
If I Force Quit Boot Camp Assistant, the MBA is not partitioned: stil one disk with original space. I tried to verify the disk: no problem. I repaired the Disk Permissions, restarted: same problem.
Can you help me please??!! Thanks in advance :-)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8 because Apple hasn't released Boot Camp drivers for it, so do it at your own risk. If you don't want to break the Mac, install Windows 7.
    SlugsForBrows wrote:
    1) how do I uninstall windows 8 from that partition and then restore that partition to recreate the whole, original volume? Is there a way of uninstalling windows that means I can use it again (i.e. I don't want to be paying another £60 for the privilage of a new license)
If you didn't erase OS X, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to erase the Boot Camp volume.

    2) how do I do the PROPER bootcamp installation? and what happens if I hit that bit where windows 8 doesn't like the bootcamp partition i created?(i know not to format the hard drive now!)
Thanks for any help guys, much appreciated!
Open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to install Windows. When you are on the partitioning screen, format only the BOOTCAMP volume and install Windows on it.
Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to download the drivers, but now they are useless for Windows 8

  • Windows installer not booting after boot camp partition

I'm running OSX 10.9.4 and trying to boot camp windows 8. Everything is going right up until after the partition when the Mac restarts. It goes back to OSX and doesnt launch the windows installer.

I haven't really kept up lately but the only thing I see missing in your information is you didn't say if you had Formatted the Boot Camp partitiion to NTFS. The last I looked into Boot Camp that was one of the mandatory things you had to do in order for the installer to "see" the partition.
You end up formating it twice.
The original format when you make the Windows partition should be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" it's done by the Mac (BootCamp) then when your booted from the Windows installer you then have to format it again with the NTFS format. And of course it has to be on an internal drive. And a full install disk not an upgrade disk. Boot Camp 5?
Take a gander at the instructions again and see if you might have missed a step?
Hope it helped, at least I bumped ya up.......
