I have an old Viao with a large iTuns library. How do I transfer this data to my new MacBook?

Are all of your songs on your iPod purchased music from the iTunes store? Because as far as I know only purchased music can be transfered from your iPod to your iTunes, and that is only with iTunes 7.
When i moved my windows music to my mac a few months ago i Used this
    Senuti - Mac Only
    http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/
It has very good instructions, worked well for me. Took my music off my ipod and onto my mac, then I was able to import it into my library.

  • Opening a Windows iTunes library with Mac iTunes

I have my iTunes folder on a shared drive on my network. This was created in Windows XP using that version of iTunes.
I have a Macbook Pro and have access to the shared drive. I would like to use that same library so that I can preserve my ratings and playlists. However, if I attempt to open that library I cannot seem to (either the .itl or the .xml file).
Is there a way to share the same library across machines (and not using the shared libraries functionality)?
    TIA,
    -p

By design, an iPhone syncs or manually manages iTunes content with ONE COMPUTER at a time. Every time you change computers, all iTunes content is first erased from your phone, to be replaced with the content from the new computer. And no, there's no way to prevent this.
However, if you copy your iTunes library from your Windows computer to your Mac, you'll simple be replacing like content with like content.

  • Itunes - windows load - transfer to Mac?

I just ordered a new Macbook and currently have a Thinkpad. It's not arriving until next week and wanted to start loading my music into itunes on my pc; then transfer the files to my new Macbook itunes.
Is this possible or do I just have to wait until my macbook arrives?
    Thanks.

  • Windows itunes to a mac

    hey
ok well i'm getting a mac pro and i have all of my itunes backed up to a disk.
the problem is, i'm worried about putting that disk onto a mac, will my music go to the mac itunes?

It must be me, but it seems pretty obvious that you need to import your iTunes library into the iTunes installed on your Mac. If your Windows machine is sitting on a network, just share your iTunes music directory, and make sure that your Mac iTunes is set to manage/copy songs into it's iTunes folder. If you don't know where your songs are currently sitting, they've probably defaulted to My Music in My Documents. Otherwise, just pop into your iTunes options and it will TELL YOU where your songs and library are sitting. Did you seriously think that you would have to buy your songs again??? I'm sure the bean counters at Apple would love that.

  • Importing prev windows itunes to new mac/ipod nano? advice please?

    Hi all,
sorry the subject line isnt to clear!
Basically the story is this. My partner got an ipod nano for christmas. It only worked about a week on my windows pc then failed. She got a replacement, that did the same, she then got a third one and it has not been used or plugged into a windows pc. She was very disappointed. Having said this she was also thinking about a laptop and was impressed by the ibook G4. As John Lewis were running a 10% off day and giving 2 years warranty she decided it was a no brainer and bought one. So then, i have copied the music/itunes folder on the windows pc to a DVD-rw. How do i now import them into her current itunes installtion on the i book?
    thanks
    joe

    Hello Joe,
That is an easy one. Just launch iTunes, Insert the DVD. When Finder opens the DVD, just drag all the folders/tracks/files from the DVD to the iTunes Library in the source list.
As long as you have set the Preferences in iTunes for Advanced->General->Importing to:
"Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" AND "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" all should be well.
iTunes will then add each dragged-and-dropped folder/file to it's library and copy them to the HD and sort them according to the ID3 tags in the files.

How would I transfer a movie, which was downloaded to my itunes account on my Windows computer, to my Mac I tunes account that has all my other movies on it?

Right-click them in iTunes, locate the files, move them as you would any other, and drag them into the open iTunes window on the MacBook Pro. iTunes Store rentals can only be moved through an iPod or similar device.

  • Transfer ITUNES library from MAC to Windows???

I want to transfer my ITUNES library, which is on my MAC onto my windows XP laptop. Using an IPOD as an external hard drive makes sense, but Windows ITUNES will not recognize the format of the IPOD and wants to restore and format it for windows. Any help or advice besides burning all of it to disks???

If iTunes is running the Automatically Add to iTunes folder would be expected to be empty. Your media should normally be in ..\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media. The library file you want to connect to should be at ..\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
If your library was set up on a Mac some time ago the library file may be called iTunes Library without the .itl extension, in which case you should edit the filename to include it, but only do so if the icon indicates the extension isn't present.
I.e. if there is a file iTunes Library represented by a blank sheet, select it, press F2 on the keyboard, edit the name to iTunes Library.itl and confirm the change. Then shift-start iTunes and use the choose library option to open the library file.

  • Song transfer of Windows formatted iPod into Mac iTunes?

My iPod was formatted using my Windows computer, but I recently got a Mac and i use both computers equally. However, I would like both computers to have the same music in iTunes. is there a way to transfer songs from my Windows computer to the Mac without reformatting my iPod?

You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.
