Windows License Key lost

I had purchased a llicensed pre-installed WIndows 8.1 enabled HP laptop. Recently I tried to dual-boot my laptop with Ubuntu 14.01 for educational purpose. By mistake I ended up formatting my entire hard-disk, which meant that even the Recovery folder got erased. I wish to reinstall Windows 8.1 on my laptop, but I don't have the license key of my original Windows copy. I purchased the laptop from a licensed HP vendor, but he says that the company doesn't provide a Windows repair CD. The license key isn't located in the BIOS of the laptop, it isn't even available on any sticker on any external part of the laptop. What can I do to find the license key and re-activate my original Windows? Pease guide me.

I bought the $30 Quicktime Pro license when I had windows and now I have switched to mac and want to continue to use Quiktime Pro. I put in the license and it didn't work. I later realized why as the user above has, and it makes no sense.
Apple should provide a work-around for this. It is not logical to make people pay more than once if they change operating systems but wish to continue using their online purchase. The download of the Quicktime client is free anyway, it is only the online pro license key which I paid for that costs money. So there is no reason to make people pay twice. That's bad business and while some companies might have this flaw, it is far from the standard for a well organized company.
Normally when you buy a license for software online, whether that be a game or whatever you pay for the account license and then you can download whichever client you need for free. If you switch to mac or windows or whatever, your account is still good. So with apple you can download the right client for free as with others, but if you switch to mac you must pay for the license again because they keys are not consolidated into one system, even though the client is still a free download. This makes no sense economically whatsoever as the user only wants to continue to use what they have paid for at no additional cost to they company.
Apple should either consolidate all the Quicktime Pro keys to one system or the sales department should offer a workaround of some sort. This is just not logical and for the online license key model of business and is just bad business relations as well.

For acs windows, there is no license key. You need to purchase the acs software.
During installation, it does not ask for any key.

Windows license key from sticker are unreadable

I was looking at the bottom of my T400 today, and I noticed that both the Windows Vista sticker that the machine came with and the Windows 7 sticker that contains the license keys are unreadable. It appears that the license keys have faded the same way that something printed on thermal paper (like an old school fax machine or a cash register receipt) fade over time or when exposed to heat.
Obviously I don't care about the Vista sticker as I upgraded for free to Windows 7. However, if something were ever to happen to the machine and I needed the license key (such as a reinstall) I'd like to know how to go about getting one.
I noticed on the T420 that the sticker is located in the battery compartment, and this sticker shows no signs of fading.

It looks to me that the serials are printed using some sort of laser printer on top of preprinted sticker stock. The fused toner that forms the characters is prone to wear from abrasion such as when you slide the ThinkPad in and out of a sleeve. Print something that has a lot of black on standard paper using a laser printer. Fold the paper over the black and you'll see that the toner has cracked. I believe something similar happens with the stickers on the bottom of ThinkPads.
For the past several years, starting with T60 series, I've always put a layer of standard 3M office tape over the serials on the bottom of every ThinkPad. These serials include MTM, Windows, MAC addresses, etc. All of these serials are as readible today as they were when the ThinkPad was new. This also suggests it's an abrasive wear not thermal degradation issue.
I suspect the stickers got moved inside the battery compartment (or elsewhere like inside the SIM/SD compartment on TPT2) for this reason.

When I try to purchase a Acrobat standard license, it shows only 'Windows" in Platform.

Never have figured out why they do not allow one S/N for both versions, particularly since some folks may have a Windows desktop and a MAC laptop. Unfortunately they do not and you have to purchase a version for each.

Photoshop Elements 12: Windows Leicense Key on secondary Mac

I've purchased Photoshop Elements 12 from the officially Adobe Web Page. I could only select Windows or Mac Amazon is selling a Windows/Mac Version for the same Price as Adobe. Now I want to use Photoshop Elements as permitted in the License Agreement on a secondary device, which is an MacBook Air.
Apparently, the Windows License Key is not accepted during the Installation Phase.
How can I get the secondary Installation running on the Mac?

On the other Hand Adobe explicitly allows a second Installation on another Computer with the same license. No word abot having the same Operation System. And when you look to Amazon, their offer both, 12 and 13 as a Win/Mac Combo License - but Adobe doesn't. That's Stange, isn't it?

I've lost Windows 7 license key

As stated in the topic, unfortunately I've lost the license key to my Windows 7: Home Premium
due to the damage to the sticker (after 3-4 years it completely faded)
and by chance it just occurred that I needed to re-install the system (recovery didn't work)
So my question is how to effectively contact Toshiba about recovering the licence key?
I'm asking since Polish Toshiba site has completely closed off the possibility of contact.
I do not need the recovery disc (as I've seen in some topics) just licence key

I did not, I had access to original Windows disc and didn't think I would be unable to recover the system. I'll need to gain access to new Windows OS (price of the recovery disc is almost the same as the new OS).

You can check you Adobe account online to see if the serial number is registered under your account. If not then your only option will likely be to contact Adobe Support directly thru chat to see if they can provide you with a/the serial number. For them to do so will require you being able to prove ownership.

Windows 2008 Server License Key not working on VirtualBox

I have a validated licensed copy of Windows 2008 Server and I need to load it on a Virtual machine (I am running Oracle VirtualBox). When I had the server running on a hardware based server it worked fine. The license key activated and it worked. Now when
I load it onto the VirtualBox solution it fails. It will take it when I run the manual command but will not show my server as activated. This is for my private use only (internal home LAN) but I would prefer to have the activation be correct since I use this
setup to help keep fresh on Windows 2008 servers while being on a Linux OS with a VM software loaded. What can I do to have this server activate correctly under the VirtualBox?

Base on my experience, after we convert a physical computer system to virtualize environment we need to reactive it, with MAK active method we need keep this vm to connect to
internet and with KMS method please confirm this vm can communicate with your KMS server.

How to get Windows Server 2012 trial license key? I'm trying to install WinServer 2012 Trial on a VMWare Workstation 9. I'm asked for the product key during set up. If I ignore putting in the key (since I don't have one) The install fails stating no valid
key. I tried this with Oracle's Virtual Box and the same thing happens. I tried using Majic JellyBean to find the key, but that only works on pre-installed OS. A Technet article said to use aaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-ddddd etc. in the spaces. That doesn't work either.
Articles all over the web seem to have other people in the same boat. Please help :)

It sounds like the key you are trying to use is for setting up a KMS, not for activating a windows server station.

1 Windows 7 machine doesn't want to activate its license key after deployment.It says "this copy is not genuine".
When I run >Cscript.exe c:\windows\system32\Slmgr.vbs /ato it says "Error: product not found."
It seems as if it doesn't find the local/general KMS key (needed to activate the key).
I was wondering if somebody could explain the working of this KMS key so we can analyze/troubleshoot.

How to recover lost product license keys and not just Microsoft licenses?

Which products have you tried? Have you looked at Magic Jelly Bean? Depending on the OS and software, some keys are not retrievable. You should also know that certain software are not transferable from one PC to another, reference the license terms of each for clarification.

There are so many products out there that claim to recover lost software license keys and all of the ones I've tried either recover only MS license keys or no keys at all. I'm trying to recover keys from my fathers old system to install on his new one and some of the products he used do not have the keys available. Anyone out there with a viable product key recovery tool that will get back more than just MS license keys?
My father will be greatly pleased.
