Windows Live Messenger - Service not enabled on this device

Hi
Just got my BlackBerry Curve 8900 today, and firstly it won't let me install AppWorld? It's the most up to date software but it says "System requirements not met"
Also I managed to download Windows Live Messenger, but it won't let me sign in. When I try all it says is "This service is not enabled on this handheld".
I've used and installed AppWorld on my brothers phone which is the same, and with the same network; Vodafone. His works fine, am I doing something wrong?
Thank you very much!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should check with your carrier to ensure that you have an adequate data service from them to enable the services you desire:

  • Yahoo Messenger - Service Not Enabled on this Handheld

I just installed Yahoo Messenger and get this error when I try to sign on.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?  I have a BlackBerry Unlimited Internet and Texting package through ATT and I have the BB Curve.

AT&T doesn't allow yahoo messenger. There is a workaround, but I don't have a link to it. It is kind of involved, but doable. (Having said that . . . I didn't do it.) You should be able to find it through google or crackberry.com or even the RIM forums.
I just downloaded JiveTalk. $20 and it works like a charm across pretty much any messenger service I think. I know for sure it works on yahoo and ms live messengers.

  • Icq on Blackberry "Service not enabled for this handheld"

Every time I try to login to icq on my blackberry it gives me an error that says "Service not enabled for this handheld".  I called Sprint whom my service is through and they told me that everything is enabled for messaging programs on my account.  Does anyone know how I can get this working?  My blackberry is an 8830 world edition.

  • Google talk not working on my 8310..."service not enabled for this handheld"

    Hi,
I use a 8310 curve (I use a 8310 Curve software version 4.2.2.181 (Platform 2.5.0.35). My firm has an enterprise server.
I tried installing google ttalk on my device but i get an error message...."Service not enabled for this handheld".
My colleagues using the same device with the same software version did not face this problem and are able to use GTalk mobile.
Please let me know how this can be solved.
    Thanks,
    Jassi

It should be installed without any issue!!!
Check with your BES admin to know whether they've blocked GTalk usage for employees.
Another thing are you on AT&T? If yes then you won't be able to use Google Talk. Check this link for details.

  • Media services not available on this device (playbook)

I posted a possible workaround as a reply to one of the messages on this subject and discovered that it won't be easy to find so I'm reposting the information here.
On your playbook tap on the information icon (upper right corner, looks like a gear).  When the about screen pops up, tap the down arrow and select network.  There you will find two IPV4 addresses, one for usb one for wifi.
Connect your playbook to your computer, click on the Windows start button and type in
run \\either IPV4 address and Windows explorer should pop up giving you access to your playbook for file transfers.
Once you have done that and if you prefer a two panel file manager for file transfers as I do, download and install a program called FreeCommander.  One of its top menu entries allows you to access a network drive.  Select that menu entry, assign a drive letter (take your pick) then type in the following location for the network drive.
\\either IPV4 address\media and you should now be able to access your playbook under that drive letter for file transfers.  As far as I can tell you must do both steps to access the drive.
Don't guarantee that this will work for you but it does for me although it doesn't solve the sync problem.
    Hope this helps someone,

  • Firefox will not open from the start menu or the taskbar, but WILL open when called from Windows Live Messenger

This started a couple weeks ago, but doesn't seem to coincide with any other installations or reconfigurations, so I'm having trouble getting at the root cause.
The first time I run Firefox after installing, it runs fine (complete with a full list of add-ons.) If I then close FF and try to start it from the task bar or start menu, nothing happens. I've tried starting in safe mode (shift+FF), but get the same result. I've restored FF to all the default settings, disabled all my plugins and add ons, but no change.
The really odd part is that if I click the 'Inbox' link in my Windows Live Messenger, FF opens perfectly. This made me think that it was my homepage causing the issue, but A: I can go to that page without problems once FF has started from WLM, and B: even if I use the FF default homepage or google.com, I get the same problem. Furthermore, if I restart FF from within FF (like after I disable/enable an add-on), it will also start properly.
No crash report is generated by FF when it fails to load, but Windows catches the problem in it's event log. I've pasted the contents of that record at the bottom in the hopes that someone can take a stab at what's wrong.
Finally, I've already run through the online crash help, but everything is either not related (since FF will start if called indirectly) or has already been prevented (absolutely no add-ons are running at the moment.)

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

  • RE:Windows Live Messenger

I have had my BB Pearl for about 7 months and am getting very frustrated! When I log into windows live I have no trouble, I can read my mail etc... When it comes to logging in to chat at first it said service not enabled for this handset! Then I upgraded and now it says Data Error or No Data. This is making me so angry because I use the internet and I pay for data plan! Why is it not letting me log in? I know so many people who have the same phone and it works. Please if someone can help me because I am getting very annoyed with this! I have the BB pearl 8130. Thank you!

So all the data on your device (mail, browser, BBMessenger, etc) work ok, but not Windows Live Messenger?
Has WLM ever worked on this device?

  • How do you to sync your or msn mail and run windows live messenger on 8900????

Hi peeps again, previously i was using E71 and synchronizing msn with E71 is just so easy plus window live messenger was already pre-installed on that device so i didnt have probs with it however when it comes to BB 8900, it so complicated to sync and install software. my 8900 is currently running on v4.6.1.250 (Platform 4.2.0.113)
    1) What should i do when my 8900 shows "Service not enabled for this handheld." when trying to launch MSN after typing the password and E-mail address?
    2) How to you sync your PERSONAL E-Mail with your blackberry? I've tried using the "E-mail setup" but it only give me one option which is "i want to use a work email account with a blackberry enterprise service"

You need THE BlackBerry Data Pan from your carrier. Call them and inquire.

  • Windows live messenger for 8130

This is my first blackberry and its verrry confusing lol. I've downloaded live messenger etc but it says service not enabled for this handheld. Any hints please?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First off seeings how you haven't gotten an answer to either of your questions you probably should take back the "accepted solution" you gave your own posts. People may see this and assume your problem is solved and won't even bother reading t. To answer you first question about WLM, in order for an IM client to work there has to be an agreement between WLM, RIM and your carrier. Currently those three have not made an agreement so you will be unable to use it. You can try webmessenger. It works good for me. For your voicemail how are you trying to access it and what happens when you do?

  • Aim service not enabled

Whenever I try to sign on to aol instant messaging (aim) it gives me this message "service not enabled for this handheld."
Anyone know how I can get this to be enabled?

This means that your carrier and blackberry and AIM do not have an agreement set up. Like I can't use WLM on att. Try a third party messenger service like webmessenger. That's what I use so I can talk with my WLM contacts. It may work for AIM too. Give it a try.

  • ISight microphone not recognized in Windows Live Messenger

I have a 24" iMac running Leopard. I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Bootcamp. I am trying to use the Windows Live Messenger program. When I try to set up the microphone, the program does not see my iSight mic. Sound comes through my speakers and the program sees my webcam (it shows up as "USB device"), but my microphone is not listed. I tried reinstalling bootcamp and I saw it install an iSight driver. Why doesn't the program see my microphone and any suggestions how to fix this?

I forgot to mention that the iSight camera I refer to in my post is built in to the iMac, along with its microphone.

  • Push Mail Not Working Properly for Windows Live Mail when Online At Windows Live Messenger

    Hello,
This is quite an old subject, but it seems to be a recurring problem across versions of Windows Live Messenger handheld client software and Blackberry Internet Service server software. For some time, I used to have no issues with Live Messenger and Push Mail from Hotmail. Now, once again, I am having a huge delay, of several hours, when logged on as “Online” to Windows Live Messenger.
What makes me believe that it is not a Windows Live limitation, by design, due to protocols and notification mechanisms in use, is the fact that I can receive both push mail and instant message notifications, immediately, as long as I am logged on to Windows Live Messenger as “Busy” or “Away”. If the protocols in place allowed notifications to only a single service at a time, I believe it should not work regardless of the status on Windows Live Messenger.
I have been using Hotmail for quite a while and most of my friends use Windows Live Messenger, so I would like to keep both working in my BlackBerry. I understand BlackBerry has a commitment to offering broad compatibility, great stability, and better integration than other solutions on the market that appeals to fancy user interfaces and forget about objectivity. Having a mobile platform that can keep both the corporate and consumer world happy is definitely a great advantage. There are several loyal users that would like to keep sharing the proficiency on a common user interface for business and personal use.
I do not often post messages to online forums, but this is an issue that has been annoying me for quite some time and I am really looking forward to a solution. Is anyone experiencing the same behavior with Windows Live Messenger lately? Is RIM looking for a solution?
    Thanks,
