Windows Load Balancing 2008 R2 Server, in Multicast Mode

Hi,
We are experiencing a problem setting up windows load balancing with (NLB) IIS . The selected mode is multicast , however after we setup the NLB cluster IP , we cannot ping it outside the OracleVM infrastructure. This applies as well if we try to access it from another VM inside OracleVM.
We can access the private IP's however the cluster IP does not respond when the cluster is in multicast mode.
We have programmed the switches which are layer 2 for static ARP mappings on all connected ports.
Still the problem remains
Does oracle VM 3.2.1 support NLB clustering for IIS servers in multicast mode?
is there any setting that we need to adjust so that the mac of the cluster responds to requests from physical hosts connected to the OracleVM network ?

the rmi servers for the client?Well, if you have one main RMI server, you have a single point of failure again.. Why can't your application know about all rmi servers, and randomly choose one? If it's down, pick a different one.. If your applicatoin is an applet, you'll have to sign it.. Do that and put it on 2 redundant web servers. You have performance by splitting the load and you have your fault tolerance by having x identical rmi servers.
If you're saying what I think, why would you have one main rmi server that picks a different rmi server? That's more work AND your redundancy goes byebye, ie if your main rmi server dies..

how to configure the CSS to load balance 2 DNS server ?

first configure the services like this :

Then we need to setup something for the dns answer

The portmap disable requires software 5.03(33) or above.

Issue in setting Load balancing for Indesign Server CS5.5

Hi All,
I need to set up load balancing mechanism for Indesign Server CS5.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2(64 bit version).
I have dutifully following all steps defined in "WORKING WITH LOAD BALANCING AND QUEUEING FOR ADOBE INDESIGN CS5 SERVER.pdf"
After running Indesign server using batch file "startup-indesign-server-CORBA-4instances.bat" from "<ID_SDK>\samples\load-balancing-and-queuing-clients\indesignserver-startup-scripts", I get only one instance of Indesign Server running. How to run multiple instances of the INDD server ? Is running multiple instance has something to do with type of licensing ?
Now I run Clover.cmd script, I get this screen. I have no idea why its not working. Please help. Please let me know, if the scenario is not clear and more information is required.

Load Balancing on two server nodes at the sender side...

Hi Experts,
I am sending a huge message (this message is being splitted into multiple messages depending on the load and zipped, this whole process of splitting and zipping is done by the scripts) zipped from sender side , when I am monitoring in message monitoring tool I found that all the load is on one server node and other server node is free as we have two server nodes , how to distribute the message equally between these two nodes.
The same Load balancing is working properly at the receiver end (load is getting distributed between two server nodes). Not sure why this is not the case at the sender side.
Please throw some light on this issue.

HA and Load Balancing in Exchange Server 2010

Hi
My office just have 2 servers Exchange Standard 2010 (Licensed). I installed 3 roles on 2 servers (called Ex1 & Ex2). I configured Windows NLB for Hub Transport and Client Access. That 's fine.
But the maibox is seperated each server. Ex1 is main mailbox, so when Ex1 down, mailbox database will down too.
I 've read DAG solution but I just have 2 servers and it 's running WNLB. My office not enough cost to buy Hardware Load Balancer.
Does anyone have a solution for my problem ?

If you want to use DNS round robin, it is recommended to lower the TTL values of DNS records to 5 minutes.
DNS Round Robin has no automatic server failure detection. If a host goes down, Administrator will need to realize it, remove the DNS Record for the server that went down, and then clients will have to wait for the TTL value on the old DNS record to
expire.

Load Balancing Microsoft RDS server

Hi there, we have two servers hosting remote desktop service roles, is there any way to setup load balancing on these two?
Say setup a pointer "xxx.rdsfarm.com"? The pointer points to two servers with round robin? We have third party LB doing load-balance work for Citrix Xenapp.

Windows Load Balance Service - Static ARP

Hi,
We have a problem with WLBS. We have 2 windows 2000 servers connected to an Access layer 2950 switch. In the distribution layer we have 2 6509 with redundant MSFCs. The WLBS is configured in Multicast Mode
The problem in that when we put a static ARP entry on both MSFCs for virtual WLBS IP and WLBS MAC address, the processor utilization reaches to 80-95% of MSFC. Once we try to ping the mapped Unicast IP address, it partially times out and the switches responds poorly.
(arp ?Load Balance virtual-ip-address? ?Load Balance MAC address? arpa)
Any idea?

Despite the problems you have been experiencing with the processor utilization, I agree with your choice going for the multicast mode.
The principle of the WLBS is that both (all?) the physical servers must see all the packets that are destined for the cluster. The individual servers then decide between themselves which frames to process and which to leave for the other guy. It can do this in multicast mode or in unicast mode.
In unicast mode, the servers respond to an ARP from the client (or router) with a virtual unicast MAC address. The client uses that address to send frames to the cluster. So why do they not get filtered by the switches in the normal way? The anwser is that the servers do not use that MAC address as source for their frames, but use their own addresses. The switches therefore never see frames sourced from the virtual MAC address, and so flood them throughout the VLAN. If you have a big VLAN, then that can cause scalability issues.
Now for multicast mode: when the client (or router) ARPs for the service address, the servers reply with a multicast MAC address. The clients (or router) then send their frames with that address as destination. The propagation though the VLAN is therefore controlled by IGMP snooping. Incidentally, some routers - including I presume the MSFC - will not believe an ARP response that gives a multicast MAC address. In my case, I had to configure the static ARP entry - IP to multicast MAC - in the router to make it work at all.
There is one other thing to say about the mutlicast scheme: the heartbeat between the servers is sent on the same multicast MAC address,but is not an IP etype, and is therefore not limited by IGMP snooping. It will be flooded to the entire VLAN. Look out for frames with etype 0x886F.
So, why are you having problems with the multicast scheme? My guess is that you have IGMP snooping, but AFAIK the 2950 supports IGMP snooping only in software rather than on the ASIC. You could switch off the IGMP snooping - that would relieve your processor, but would flood all you WLBS traffic.
I can suggest some possible aproaches to this problem:
1. Put up with the increased processor load.
2. Change your switches to something that supports IGMP snooping in hardware, or connect the WLBS servers only to switches that support this.
3. Use the unicast scheme, put your WLBS on a dedicated VLAN, and allow it to flood.
4. Use the unicast scheme and put CAM entries in all your switches for the virtual unicast address, with egress ports towards the WLBS servers.
Let me know how you solve this one, because I have the problem too, except that my servers are connected to switches that either support IGMP snooping in hardware, or do CGMP.

SAP GLM Print Request - Load Balancing of WWI server

Hi GLM Experts,
I am using new GLM + module that generates labels based on Print Requests. I am unable to understand how I can load balance the WWI services when there are multiple label printing requests.
In GLM + we associate a WWI to a Print Station and which can then be associated with a printer. So in the configuration we are tying up a printer a WWI.
Also during label printing, if the scenario uses print request module, then the use need to select a print station and printer. What happens if the WWI related to the print station is down?
For example I have two services in WWI server GENPC1 and GENPC2. I created WWII and WWI2 as two print stations. I will associate my printer PRNWWI to both the print stations WWI1 and WWI2.
During label printing if the user picks and WWI1 and Printer PDNWWI and if the GENPC1 WWI server assocaited with print status WWI1 is busy and down I want WWI GENPC2 to generate the label?
How to setup the above load balancing or fall back? Please let me know.

The load balancing of synchron WWi servers is donein the "RFC" layer, therefore you have no inffluence here, for asynchron WWI servers you can do a lot to manage the WWI load balancing by using "exits" etc.

How to set up load balancing with overload server on css

can anyone tell me how to set up a load balancing config on css that will enable me to LB proxy caches and when they have too many connections then LB against an overload proxy-cache.
Such that when the normal proxy-cache farm is under the ceiling of max connections then the overload server is not used ?
I don't think redirect or sorry server will do this ?

CSS Load balancing for Exchange Server

Hi,
I have CSS configured in single arm and I have multiple servers configured for load balancing and it is working fine but when I am configuring Exchange server for load balancing I am facing problem and applications and printer/scanners are not able to send the email through the Virtual IP address configured for exchaneg server.
But if we configured the real server IP in the printer/scanners they are able to send the email. While checking the logs on the exchange server, it is showing that request for the email so coming from the Exchange VIP configured in the CSS.
I can telnet on port 25 on the VIP address (192.168.200.237). But unable to send the email through this VIP.

Add service command in the group but didnt work for me. If i will remove the group command then I cant telnet on port 25.
I think this is related to single arm modle or some wrong configuration for the NAT.

Printers are on Vlan 80 ( gw is 192.168.80.1) and exange server is on vlan 200 (gw is 192.168.200.1) i have multiple vlan which will communcate with exchange.
I hv other servers on 200 subnet which are working fine in load balancing.
My CSS is single arm setup.

Load Balancing in Report Server

I'm running Reports 6.0 and OAS 4.0.8 and am using client/server legacy forms & reports. I'm calling reports (with parameter file) from a form. I'm calling the form using show.web_product and paramform=html.
My problem is that I can't get the server queue to accept more than 1 job at a time. The load balancing features of OAS/Reports means that there has to be at least 20 or so reports queueing (source - Oracle Support) before a new engine will switch in - even if you specified more than one minimum at start-up. If a report is running everybody has to wait for it to finish. That includes those waiting for the parameter screen as this has to be created by the report server as well.
As we are running an intranet with less than 300 users it's unlikely that we are going to get the throughput. I've tried saturating the queue with small scheduled jobs (which do invoke new engines) but these engines disappear as soon as the job is finished.
The only work round is to recreate the parameter forms in a web form. Something that is going to take a lot of effort given the number of reports that already have parameter forms.
Has anybody else come across this? You can't all be General Motors or BP..

It is not a must, but it is recommended. If you are planning to configure PCP then it is a must.

Load Balancing with forms server 10g

Hello,
i've a cliente which is right now processing a migration from a client-server 6i platform (using Terminal Servers) to a forms 10g web platform with several Application Servers 10g in standalone.
At the end, client want to enable Load Balancing in order to have some manage at each Application Server load.
The idea to accomplish is to have an hardware Load Balancer. The client already has a CISCO CSS 11503 SSL.
Is there any documentation where i can check more info about the compatibility/configuration to this architecture.
