Windows - Mac Printer Sharing???

I have a perfectly working HP Photosmart 7150 connected to my Windows XP PC. I also have a wireless network running through my house. I have enabled Printer Sharing and other Windows XP (and Vista) Laptops can print to it wirelessly. How do I do this for my new Macbook?
If I connect it via USB cable, the Macbook instantly recognizes it and printing is immediately possible. I do not know why this is not happening wirelessly....? It can't even detect the HP Photosmart Printer over the wireless network. "Printer Sharing" is ticked in the Sharing Preferences in my Mac. The printer is not in "Print and Fax" nor does it show up when I click the + sign.
Help me, please. If you need any other details, please ask.
HP says HP Photosmart 7150 drivers are pre-installed in Tiger. However, the model name is not listed when I have to choose Make and Model. Why? How can I fix this?

Shawn, please do some reading here in the forum.
The Photosmart driver doesn't show up for network printing because it was written for USB only.

This must have been answered many times: How to keep Mac printer sharing on?
Brother MCF-7340 drivers have been installed from original DVD.
Turning on printer sharing remains easy. But sharing goes away by itself.

The iPad uses AirPrint for printing.  AirPrint uses Bonjour data.  Some WiFi routers do not handle Bonjour data correctly.
    Two options:
    1.  New WiFi router.  Apple's AirPorts and Time Capsules are known to work.  My Cradlepoint MBR900 works.  There are others, but I do not know of any compatibility list.
    2.  iPad App such as Print n Share.
(The option to run a program on your desktop computer that will share the printer over WiFi, may also require the router to pass Bonjour data correctly.)

  • Windows 7 Printer Sharing

I have a HP PSC 2410 connected to a computer running windows 7.  Win 7 detected and installed the printer just fine and there are no issues printing.  I have a laptop running XP and I'll be darned if i can get the Win 7 computer to spool print jobs for the laptop.  Works fine when I boot into Vista.  I have the print sharing set up and I can see the XP machine from the Win7 machine just fine.  Everything I have read says I need to install the XP drivers on the Win 7 machine.  Does this mean I need to download the large, all-in-one file for XP and install on the Win 7 machine?  Just concerned this may cause an issue.  I've looked just for just the driver file to no avail.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I too am stumped, seems no one has an answer.  Looks like we will need to upgrade the laptop to Win 7 in order to be able to print.  Although I was able to print using the RC version, now using the RTM version thats now not the case.
I did try installing XP drivers onto the WIn 7 PC, but wouldn't install no matter what method I tried.
And since HP won't be developing Win 7 drivers anytime soon, we'll just have to wait.
    Unless anyone knows differently!

  • Windows xp printer sharing to Mac OS 10.6.7

    Hello everyone?
Im mac newbie. My small office network have 2 computer. 1 computer is a windows XP and another one is macbook. My network solution is wireless. I'm installing and configure canon mf4680 printer on my windows xp computer. Then sharing and I wanna add printer on my macbook. I was following this guide
    http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharewinprinter.htm
all installation and configure succesfully done, but im printing on macbook i recieved error code. This error is printer driver error -50 etc, sorry im missed.
Pls help me guys how can install sharing printer on my macbook?
    Pls apologize my english skill

Unfortunately it is not possible to use the Canon MF series from a Mac when the printer is being shared by Windows. This is due to limitations of Canon's UFR2 driver for OS X.
But if your wireless router has an Ethernet port then you would be able to print from the Mac and from Windows if the MF4680 Ethernet port was connected to the Ethernet port of the wireless router. All the printer will require is an IP address, which the router can assign automatically (DHCP). If your wireless router does have an Ethernet port and you need information on how to set the MF4680 to DHCP then please reply.

  • Mac print sharing with windows issue...

I set up a intel iMac to share its printer with a dell laptop. From what i can see in the printer's queue..all the jobs get sent from the laptop to the iMac; however, it doesn't print anything. It seems that windows is sending the print job and the iMac is receiving it but nothing is printing.
    what could be the solution?

I have a very similar problem....
I got a MAC PRO a couple of weeks ago and I have two USB printers (an EPSON CX 4200 and a CANON S900 connected to it).
I tried both Ifelix procedures to add the printers connected to the MAC and I had problems with both procedures.
If I try the http://mac-ip:631/printers/printer-name I am successful in adding the printer to the Laptop running windows XP however when I try to send something to that printer the job goes straight to the "completed" queue on the MAC.
I spent two hours with Apple support on the phone today and they could not figure out what was going on and suggested that I post my issue to this forum to see if anybody has any ideas.
I also tried to configure the printers using Bonjour (as per Ifelix method) but at some point during the printer setup I get an error message indicating that I do not have "sufficient access" to install the printer driver even though I am logged in as admin on the windows XP computer.
Has abybody experienced similar pain? Is anybody here being able to print to printers connected to a MAC PRO from a Windows XP laptop?
I should also say that my computers are in a network and both are connected to a Linksys Wireless Access point/router.
The Laptop is a wireless laptop and the mac pro is conneced to the linksys router via a regular network cable.
Also, I have no issues printing straight from the mac to both printers.
    Would appreciate any suggestions/comments.
Thanks in advance for your time.
    regards,
    marcelo

  • Windows Vista Printer Sharing - Error: 256

I am trying to share an Epson CX4800 printer that is connected to my Vista PC with my iMac. When I try to add the printer from my iMac using Windows Printing, I can see the Vista machine. • Canon Pixma MX300 Printer sharing through Windows PC

I have a canon mx300 printer hooked up to a windows pc and share it wireless throught aiport extreme with a Macbook pro and Macbook. Thing is I can not use the CD that came with the printer to install the drivers on the MACS. They will not work when I try and connect to the printer throught the windows pc. I can not even find the Pixma MX300 on the mac printer list yet they sell it on the apple site.
I have gone to canon site and downloaded the latest versions of the drivers but when connecting through the windows pc those versions still do not work. Only thing I have been able to do is try a preloaded driver found on the Mabook Pro/Macbook but they do not work 100%. Paper feeds funny and colors do not work correct. Any recomendations.

The easiest thing to do is install Bonjour for Windows on the PC. Then, your Mac will be able to find and use the printer.
However, from the Mac's point of view, the printer is no longer a Canon printer. It is a Windows printer and you have to go through the Windows SAMBE printer sharing features.

  • After updating to 10.6.8 cant print from a PC to Mac printer

I have two HP printers attached to my MBP 7.1 that where working well also from a Windows Laptop in my home network before I update OSX to the last one 10.6.8
I have try also with bonjour that recognize the printers but nothing happens. From MBP I can print without problems. What can I do? I need some advice

The printers I work with them are connected to the USB and sharing is enabled. There is something strange with permissions in the Sharing window for "Printer Sharing": both are enabled to "Everyone" but with "No access" and when I change to "Can print" all the other users disappears and when I try to insert again a user to give permission, the "Everyone" change again to "No access". I don't know what to do, I delete one of the printers and install again but nothing happens.
An other point that can be important is that I can't see any more Mac files from the other Windows 7 laptop in the network. From MBP I can connect to the smb://server

  • Printer sharing in System Preferences will not stay checked

I have two printers connected to my iMac (10.7.3) and I am trying to enable printer sharing for my MacBook Air to utilize the iMac's printers.  On the iMac, I go to System Prefrences > Sharing and check Printer Sharing and I ensure that both printers are being shared.  Everything is checked, but the second I close the System Prefrences window, the printer sharing stops working.  I go back into System Prefrences and the Printer Sharing box is unchecked.  Any idea as to why this is occuring?

Does Printer Sharing actually work until you close the preference pane? You've tested it?

  • Print from  Windows XP to a shared Mac printer

My Mac is using OS 10.3.9 and I want to share my ML-1210 with a PC. I attempted to use CUPS but the PC claims the ML-1210 cannot be "shared". Is there a step-by-step process for sharing a Mac printer with a PC? Thanks.
    1) I have installed the latest Samsung-GDI with foomatic and ESP ghostscript driver combination for my ML-1210 (which apparently is supposed to assist in sharing).
    2) I added the printer on my PC linking it to my Macintosh as sharing;
    3) When I attempted to print nothing happened. I opened the PC Print Center and found there was an error. When I opened properties/sharing on the printer I received an error message "Sharing is not supported for this kind of printer".
    4) I'm almost positive I've seen postings on the web claiming that this printer has been shared. So I'm obviously still doing something wrong...
    Thanks for your assistance

  • Printer Sharing with Mac on a Windows dominated network

    Hey guys,
So basically, for the past few weeks I've been trying to get my printer connected through the network so I can print wirelessly. Basically, from my research, I need to get my Mac connected on the "homegroup" of the Windows network. However, when I try to connect, it asks me for a username and password. My computer doesn't have a password -- and I don't want to put one because it's a shared computer. Is there a default password? Or am I forced to put a password on that computer?

If a Windows computer was sharing the printer that you want to connect to, then this would be the correct action to take. But if the printer is networked, either wired or wireless, and not shared by a Windows computer then you could connect your Mac directly to the printer if you connect to the same network.
As for the "homegroup" this is a WIndows only setup introduced with Vista. Your Mac cannot connect to a homegroup. So do mean workgroup?

When you want to connect to a Windows shared printer you will get prompted to enter a Windows username and password before you see the shared printer. So you do not enter your Mac user details. Have you been provided with a Windows account you can use?

  • Printer shared from my Mac is not seen from a PC using Bonjour for Windows

I am going nuts here, hope someone can help.
I have a Canon multi-function printer (MP830) attached via USB to a Mac G4 (with Mac OS X Tiger). At one time, I had it set so a Windows 2000 PC could print to it but deinstalled it after some printing issues, and have been unable to get to working again. The machines are connected together via a Netgear router. As far as I know, everything is the same as it was before, yet I cannot get it to work as it did.
    - The printer works fine from the Mac.
    - If I connect the printer to the PC, it works fine.
    - On the PC, using Bonjour for Windows, I cannot see the printer attached to the Mac but I can see, and print to, an Epson printer that is attached to a different Mac.
    - And from the second Mac, I am able to see -- but not successfully print to -- the Canon printer. The print job stays in the queue of the second Mac and says "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry... Error: Connection failed with error."
    - I have tried:
-- de-installing and re-installing Bonjour for Windows and the Canon print drivers on the PC
-- and have de-installed and re-installed the Canon drivers on the Mac
-- I have removed and re-added the Canon printer on the Mac. Printer Sharing is on, and this printer is checked in the Sharing box.
    Any suggestions?
G4 Quicksilver and Dell PC with Windows 2000   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Canon MP830

Thank you. Those are beautifully written procedures.
Looks like it's a network issue. I reach the step, "Adding a printer using the wizard":
You must enter the following URL, you must use the Queue Name you noted down earlier
    http://<IP address of Mac>:631/printers/Queue Name
    which I do, entering
    http://192.168.0.4:631/printers/MP830
and I get the following error:
"Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server."
    And then I am toast!
Using the other procedure, I simply don't see the Mac's printers in the Bonjour Wizard's "Browse for Bonjour Printers" window.
Not sure where to go from here -- any ideas?
The Mac's IP (set via DHCP) is 192.168.0.4, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The PC is 192.168.0.5, I can't find the subnet mask.
Pretty sure it's a network config issue, especially isnce I can Bonjour to my other Mac.
    TIA...

  • Printer Sharing...Mac-- Windows

Hello, I just purchased an HP PSC-1510. It is not a network printer. I read how to setup printer sharing based on what I read in mac help. It assigned the printer an IP address. I would like to be able to print from my dell over our wireless network, to the ibook and print. I need help setting it up on the Windows PC because it says it can't find the specified IP when trying to set it up on the windows machine. I am trying to set this up asap so any help appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am facing a similar problem... my father uses WinXP at home, with a HP Deskjet 3920 attached to it. I convinced my mother to buy a G4 iBook, and now she's all happy about it. I just set up a wireless internet connection at their home, and I am trying to use dad's printer from mom's iBook. The printer is being shared just fine, and I guess my problem is driver related as well.
Printer type is set as PS as default, and I believe this printer isn't PS-capable: print job gets into XP's queue, but printer refuses to print it. However, if I try to set its type to the right printer model, my printer simply doesn't appear on the options of HP printers. I then went to HP's drivers site and apparently they do have a driver for this model: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=44544 2&lang=en&os=219
I downloaded and installed both the HP Inkjet Driver and the web installers for Deskjet printers; installations seemed to go by just fine, but still the Deskjet 3920 doesn't appear on the list of available HP printers. Any ideas? I am probably missing something, but I can't figure out what it is...
On a related issue: since they did me no good, how do I uninstall these drivers? (I am a seasoned Linux user, but I am still finding my way around on Macs; so, please bear with my newbie questions =))
    TIA

  • Can't find printer shared on Windows machine

I don't know how to connect my MacBook Pro to a printer shared by a Windows machine on my network. I have the Windows path to the printer but I don't know how to get Leopard to see the printer. (I tried the Windows tab in the Print and Fax control panel.) Can someone please tell me what is going on?

Okay, some things you need to confirm for me.
What is the workgroup name of the computer sharing the printer?
What is the ip address and subnet mask of the computer sharing the printer?
What is your Mac's ip address and subnet mask?
If your Mac and the PC have the same subnet (usually the first three numbers of the ip address) and the workgroup name is the same, then you should be able to see the share. If not, there is a manual method of connecting to a Windows share.
What you need to do is customise the add printer browser. After selecting to add a printer, control-click next to the More Printers icon to see a menu. Choose Customize Toolbar. Move the Advanced icon to the toolbar. Now click the Advanced icon to see a new menu. Change the top menu to Windows Printing. In the field after smb://, you can enter the computer name or ip address of the sharing computer, followed by a / then the printer share name. For example,
    smb://192.168.40.12/Canon
    Note that sometimes you have to also use account information in the queue name, especially when the guest account is disabled. In these cases, the queue name would be entered as follows;
    smb://username:password@computer_name/printer_sharename
Once you enter the queue name you can then select the printer model. For some models of printers, you cannot use the driver supplied by the vendor. So you have to look at using CUPS based drivers such as those provided by Gutenprint.
