Windows mail server migration

Hi all,
I have a client who wants to migrate his windows mail server to Mac OS X Tiger. Is it possible? If yes, how?
Thanks in advance
regards,
Pradeep
  Mac OS X (10.4.4)

We migrated from MS Exchange 2000 to OS X Server Mail, just 15 users but tons of gigabytes of mail. What i did:
-set up IMAP on Exchange 2000 (we already used it), all mail has to be stored on the server
-set up Mail Service on OS X
-set up User Accounts on OSX Server, activated Mail for each user
-synced each user account from an OS X client computer using "imapsync". It works like an IMAP client copying all mail to the new mail server, it can keep the seen flag and does not produce duplicate mails. there is a description how to invoke imapsync automatically for a list of users.
-did a reconstruct -r on OS X Server to be sure the mailboxes are clean
you can get imapsync via darwinports.
it's worth the work...

  • Windows Mail - Server Terminating Connection when ...

This is a message related to a very well established forum full of many, many irate BT customers. I'm posting this long standing complaint here because in the forum I speak of, we are all being totally ignored by BT.
BT, after months of dissatisfaction, can you (a) acknowledge / confirm the problem and (b) fix the problem.
Here is the link to the forum in question - 8 pages worth of extremely dissatisfied and angry posters:
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Windows-Mail-Server-Terminating-Connection-when-download...
If you don't take action, I (and many others, I'm sure) will go public on this issue.
At the end of the day, we don't want to continue paying for service that doesn't deliver!

To both people who replied to my post - I know only to well what forums are for but I'm so angry that all our posts in the forum (the one with 8 pages worth) just evapourate into thin air. You have to question the intrinsic value of at least some of these forums. I don't speak by any means for all forums but in ours we are all at our wits end - and furious because we are paying good money to BT for a "service" that doesn't deliver.
It's not good enough despite you correcting me as to where I should and shouldn't post. Have a look at the forum and you'll see what I mean. Yes - we have supported one another but we now all know exactly what the pronblem is after many months. The Sage has made around 4 posts all of which advocate we should all change to IMAP but this is missing the whole point. Our BT e-mail service is supposed to work through POP3 and indeed BT has standard POP3 settings for mail clients.
Myself and numerous people have been through all the official help and support channels to no avail. Customer Service is really poor. They tell you to follow a standard set of instructions by way of a "fix" but they refuse to recognise the issues we have.
But to finish, where do we all go from here when (a) many people have known for months what the issue is - it's a BT Yahoo server-side problem and (b) many people have reported this long standing issue (since Feb-12 or earlier) through the official BT support channels and still nothing has been done.
OK. No more posts from me. I'm at my wits end and both your replies have discouraged me from participating any longer. Very disappointing.

  • Windows Mail server error 501

Every time I foreword an address or web page etc. using the "File" E-Mail Link the following happens. The e-mail is sent but there are five old error messages shown below. The e-mail goes trough but I have to hit the [close] box to clear the sent message. I can't figure out how to remove the old rejected e-mail addresses.
Here is a copy of the message.
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was '*****@picturetrail.comAccount:2051017:return'. Subject 'Account:2051017:return', Account: 'Dave's Mail', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '501 Syntax error in arguments', Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 501, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

This has nothing to do with Firefox. Mail is being rejected as you have set up your mail in a wrong way with incorrect ports etc.. Please contact the appropriate people for this issue and not here.

  • Mail Server -Migration

    hi,
how to backup data on serveradmin at maintenance that shown email user and qouta to new mailserver, i already backup all user and mail storage using mailbfr and LDAP(WGM) but when i check on new mailserver using serveradmin on maintenance division there has no content.
    i already backup cyrus..what should i do?
can anyone recommend to me how first thing first i should do.
procedure to backup old mailserver to new mailserver
    pls help me

I presume you are looking to migrate emails currently stored on a mail server to your new proposed Mac mini mail server.
There are generally three approaches, if the old mail server stores the emails in a suitable format, one option is to migrate those, however with the wide variety of different servers in use this approach is rarely one that will be possible unless for example you are moving say a postfix implementation on Linux to one on the Mac.
The second more common and generally more successfull approach is to use a tool that logs in to the old server via IMAP and then copies the messages for each user account to the matching account on the new mail server. Some utilities might be more successfull than others are preserving things like read status and any message flags so testing would probably be advised.
The third approach is to export the messages from the users email client and then reimport them once they have been switched to the new server.
By the way, a lot of people including myself prefer Kerio (on a Mac server) to using Apple's own Mail Server software.
What is your current (old) mail server software?
Kerio provide a free IMAP migration tool for migrating to their mail server from another IMAP server. See http://www.kerio.com/connect/imap-migration-tool there are many other IMAP migration tools out their e.g. Google provide one for migrating to Google Mail service, and some of these are free some are commercial, an example free one that can be run on a Mac is imapsync see http://freecode.com/projects/imapsync it's written in PErl and hence can be run on a Mac although you might need to install Apple's (free) XCode in order to be able to compile any extra Perl modules you may need.

  • 10.5.x mail server migration to 10.6 (non upgrade)

    Hi all,
So I have been reading up on the various issues with upgrading 10.5.x servers to 10.6 however my question involves going from a 10.5.x server to a clean 10.6 server (non upgrade install). I generally start fresh with a new OS and migrate the data anyway however this is the first time I have experienced a switch away from cyrus (Instead of to cyrus which I have done enough now).
Has anyone done this yet? With the switch to dovecot, I am unsure how this works from a migration standpoint. Can I just use ditto to move the mail stores over and then the new dovecot server will simply recognize everything? I somehow feel like it can't be that easy with cyrus involved (though cyrus has worked well for me).
I recall seeing an imap sync tool some use here to transfer imap mail to a new / different server. Would that be the preferred method? Mailbfr hasn't been updated for 10.6 yet so I can wait for that amazing software as well but I am itching to test our mail stores and scripts, etc out on the test box.
I have a test server that is being freed up this week so I'll try myself anyway but was wondering if anyone had performed this sort of migration yet in a non upgrade fashion?

Kerio provide a free tool to do IMAP migrations to Kerio, something similar for (Snow) Leopard Server would be nice. However it might be possible to do basically the same thing via the command line using Dovecot's own routines.
    See http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration
That page also refers to an open source utility called imapsync to do direct IMAP transfers, it looks like it is a Perl program and should run on a Mac (it will almost certainly need some Perl modules adding and this requires you to install XCode). Ah! I have just found another tool called Larch which is written in Ruby, this looks from reports to be more flexible and more reliable.
    imapsync - http://freshmeat.net/projects/imapsync
    Larch - http://github.com/rgrove/larch/tree/master
Let me know if you successfully do an IMAP->IMAP migration. If anyone manages to use Larch under Mac OS X let us know what was involved. I have done some Perl, and a bit of PHP but never touched Ruby before.
I've used imapsync in the past; it is fairly reliable, although there are definitely a few caveats that you must read the documentation to catch (for example, there is a command-line switch that, if not used, will reset the sent/received dates of ALL transferred email to the current date, and another that is used to preserve the seen/unseen status). Getting it up and running requires (or at least required, as of my last use of it back in July of this year, on a 10.5 server) installing of a few Perl modules from CPAN as well, necessitating the installation of XCode on the server; you are correct on that point. That being said, it's a pretty handy tool for doing a wide variety of migrations, as it doesn't care WHAT the source and destination mail servers are, so long as they both speak IMAP. There are, of course, minor issues if the source server is Microsoft Exchange, since Exchange's IMAP implementation is a bit ... nonstandard ... at times.
Just my $0.02 on that topic

  • Please help, After mac 10.5.8 mail server migrated to snow leopard server?

    Hi,
All my old emails date has changed to the date on which i migrated to snow leopard server, all the old emails show as they arrived on 31st of Dec 2009.
How do I fix it. Very Very important to me to have the arrived date.
    Please help
    Thanks,
    Gulab Pasha

here is a link of other users having wrong date problems after upgrading to 10.6
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2134525
Some people have managed to fix their date problems. The easiest workaround is to add the column "Date Sent" under (View->Columns->Date Sent) in mail.app and to sort by the send date not the received date.
    Hope this helps

  • Re: Windows Mail - Server Terminating Connection w...

Just joined the forum.  I have had this problem for months now and thought it was my laptop which was getting very slow. Setting up Outlook on a desktop PC I find I have the same problem so started looking on the web for answers and found this thread.  I live only metres from the exchange, so speed is not a problem.  Also all emails fail several times during download whether with attachments or not.  Very frustrating.  Still, I have decided to move to another ISP in November once my contract finishes.  Any recommendations would be welcome.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Silverdog,
Based on the limited details you have provided it may be that you have particular problems.
I would suggest that you re-post in the
    BTCare Community Forums
    Broadband
    Other BB Queries  section.
starting a new thread on "Frequent Failures downloading emails".
Give details of your operating system, email client, and ADSL details from your router, and the community may be able to help you.
I would think twice about moving ISP as while BT Customer Care needs to improve most other ISPs are equally bad or worse.

  • Elements 11 does not allow me to use Windows Mail to send photos

I used to use element 7 to send photos to my friends, and the program understood that my default server was Windows Mail. I bought a new camera (Nikon D800) which has very large file sizes and Elements 7 could not handle these large files and I was advised by Adobe to buy Elements 11 and this program could handle these large files. The unfortunate thing is that when I tried to send photos to friends, it would not allow me to access my Windows Mail server and only showed Microsoft Outlook or Adobe Mail to choose from. I don't use either of these servers for my e-mails, but now I have this programs that does handle the photos from my new camera and allows me to organize and adjust my photos, but I can't send them to my friends with this program as it does not recognize Windows Mail as my default. how can I fix this!

    Hi,
Please refer to the following KB article to set up Windows Mail as your default client  <http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/freeze-or-error-no-email.html>
    Hope it works.
Just in case it doesn't, please mention the following-
    1. Version of PSE
    2. Version of WLM
    3. OS you are on

  • How do I get my Third-Party Mail Server to deliver Mail quickly to BlackBerry?

With Gmail and Yahoo! the mail delivery is very fast.  We own/use a Windows Mail Server that is IMAP/POP/Etc. but sometimes it take mail quite some time to display in the BlackBerry device.  Is there a trick to it?
    Thanks for the help.

With BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) accounts e-mail accounts are polled every 15 minutes for mail. If mail is found then it is pushed to the device. Then the mail account is polled every 3 minutes (for 5 cycles) for mail. If there is no mail found, then it will be polled again in 15 minutes.
Gmail and Yahoo! Mail have special agreements with RIM that allow the mail to be delivered instantly, thus the instantaneous push. If you want your mail instantly pushed then you would need to create a BlackBerry E-mail Account (via your carrier's BIS web site) then configure your mail account to forward the mail to the BlackBerry e-mail account.
For example, let's say you have T-Mobile. You could create an e-mail account called [email protected] Then you would configure your third-party e-mail account to forward any e-mails received to the [email protected] address. This way the messages would come through instantly. More information on this is here: Methods of Receiving E-mail on BlackBerry
The only other option would be to use a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) or a Hosted BES provider (like MailStreet or ExchangeMyMail).

  • How do I copy my windows mail contacts to my iPad mini?

how do I copy my windows mail contacts to my iPad mini?

If your contacts are stored in the Windows Mail server i.e Hotmail, now Outlook.com, you can go in the iPad into Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars ->Accounts->Add Account,  Tap on Microsoft Hotmail, and add your Windows Live account there, and all your contacts will be synced over.

  • Best Way to Migrate to Mail Server

I want to get off of Google Mail. I have a mini with Lion Server 10.7.3 on it. I had my ISP add a PTR record to their DNS server. I'm thinking I should be able to just point my DNS server to the new server and then point my Mail app to the server on the mini. Of course, I am thinking that if this doesn't work, it might make a mess and reverting might be a nuisance. (I am a programmer, not an admin.)
Should I maybe make a subdomain and get that working first? e.g. webmail.<domain name>.com?
    Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately keeping the OS-X Server alive as an archive is not an option because there's major corruptions in this server right now and I need to completely format it and reinstall from scratch once the mail is migrated into Exchange. The problem is the server's datas as been transferred/copied/migrated from an old XServe (10.6 Server) into a Mac Pro Server (Mid-2012 generation, bought in summer 2013), then upgraded to Lion Server and finally to Mavericks Server.
Actually Mail/iCal/Contacts are the last services running on this server (with Open Directory for authentication). After the format/reinstall the OS-X Server will only act as :
    - Profile Manager
    - Software Update
    - Caching
I'll probably use the MacPro (12-core, 32 GB) to video processing and use a MacMini i7 as server.
Everything on the server's side will now be running on few Windows Server 2012 (R2) on a true servers hardware (HP Proliant) incling Active Directory Domain, File Server, Print Server, DHCP, DNS, Terminal Server, VPN, etc. And mail service will be provided by Microsoft Exchange 2013 hosting service (Office 365).

  • Migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server

    Hi all,
I'm looking to migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server.  I work for a company with roughly 30 employees and they use exchange for mail, contacts and calendars.  We want to take full advantage of OSX Server and to completly get off of exchange.
What are the best ways to do this?  Are there any tools available to help this process?

I agree with the points made by Strontium90. If you have any PCs then Apple's mail/contacts/calendar software is a poor choice. Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server would not only support Macs but would also do a good job supporting PCs running Outlook.
If you are going to become a pure Apple site, then you could use just the Apple software and this would be cheaper than using Kerio. For 30 users this might be a suitable solution, however even in a pure Apple environment many people prefer Kerio. For example I find Kerio much more pleasent when dealing with email addresses across multiple domains, email aliases, email group addresses, and so on. Kerio also has built-in email archiving, that is keeping a record of all emails. Kerio also provides a web-browser client for accessing email, calendar and contacts. It is worth noting that as standard Mountain Lion Server no longer includes a webmail feature. While I personally find the Kerio webclient rather ugly it does work.
There are some annoyances I have with Kerio, firstly they have always charged a 'maintenance' fee for their software. This provided access to software updates, and in the past also provided access to Kerio technical support. Unfortunately they now only let you make two (2) support cases per year for that cost, and you now have to pay extra for any more cases. Also while they added support for EWS (Exchange Web Service) to allow using Outlook 2011 for Mac as a supported email client, they did a poor job of this so that it does not work properly with any other EWS compatible client. This means it will not work in EWS mode with Apple Mail, nor with Outlook for Windows. While there are other ways to connect these other clients, this seems a foolish move and there have been plenty of requests to fix this.
Apple's Mail client uses EWS to connect to a 'real' MS Exhange server.

  • Migration from Small business server 2011 standad to Windows 2012 Server Standard

    Hi everyone,
I have a network with SBS 2011 standard (that is the only server) and now we are moving (migrating) to windows 2012 server standard with an exchange 2013 (not yet installed).
The main thing is that when trying to install the migration tool on the SBS server, it will not install because it is not a 2008 R2 server.
is there a workaround for this problem?
I Hope this will help. Amir Ovadia

    Hi,
Would you please first let me know how did you perform the migration? Regarding the migration tool, is it the Windows Server Migration Tools in Windows Server 2012 R2? Since you need to install
the Windows Server Migration Tools on the source SBS 2011 server, I suggest we could perform the following steps to install it.
Create deployment folders for ource computers by running the
smigdeploy.exe tool (included with Windows Server Migration Tools) on your destination server.
Register Windows Server Migration Tools on source computers that are running Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows
    Server 2003 by using SmigDeploy.exe.
For details, please refer to the following article.

In addition, here are some similar threads about how to perform the migration from SBS to Windows Server 2012 Standard, maybe they are useful to us.

  • Content Server Migration to Windows 2088 Server

    Hi,
All our systems are on windows 2008 server. Since during time of Implementation CS was not supported on Wind 2K8 we had to install it on a separate hardware (Win 2K3). Now that it is supported we need to migrate our server from this separate hardware to our SolMan server.
I need some advice on how too go ahead with this activity.
I believe below are the steps.
    1. Upgrade MaxDB in our current CS from Version 7.6.03.10 to 7.6.5.12 or above as per SAP Note 1399009.
    2. Install SAP CS on the SolMan Sever.
    3. Do a Homogenous System Copy - restore of Backup of source MaxDB. Note 962019 & 129352
    4. Copy the ContentServer.INI file and the security directory to the
new server. As this is not backed up in the DB Backup.
Is this Process correct? Is there any guides for this. Please help.

    Hi,
I have not done a migration yet, but I´m introducing ArchiveLink in a larger scal right now and migration is also a topiv for later tasks. What I have found is OSS note 1043676. Here you can copy docs from one repository to another. Thats how I would try:
    1. Make a new rep poiting at your new CS (e.g. Z2)
    2. Copy all docs from Z1 (your old CS) to Z2 by using OSS note 1043676
    3. Change customizing that all your relations point to the new rep.
Cause I guess the final repository is not transparent to the application therefore a switch to a new rep should be possible.
I did not try this but this may be the way I would suppose to go.
Hope I could help you anyway
P.S.: If you found the right way, please post it
    kind regards Matthew

  • HT4796 When I run migration assistant on my PC, I get a message saying windows mail is running and won't let me proceed.  Windows Mail is not running. I checked Task Manager's applications, services and processes and found no references to Window's Mail.

Got a new iMac 27" for Christmas (well a little after) and tried using Migration Assistant to transfer some files.  I can't get past a window on the PC that pops up indicating Quit Other Programs  Before you can transfer your information, the following programs must be shutdown:  Windows Mail  Close these programs and run Migration Assistant again.  If these programs do not appear to be running, restart your computer and try again.
I've rebooted.  I've searched Task Manager - Applications, Processes and Services and there are no references to WMail.  I don't or haven't knowingly used Windows Mail and Outlook isn't even installed on my PC.  Does anybody know how to get around this without using external drives, USB flashdrives, etc.

Lots of fun.... The superdrive in my Macbook seems to have gone off kilter since my install. Now the CD-R won't work regardless of which operating system I use. Normal CD's and DVD's are fine, but any CD-R is taken as a blank disk.
Using an external CD drive solved this problem.
