Windows ME - Is it possible to install Itunes?

Received a nano over a year ago. Cannot install it as my computer is old and has Windows ME. Is there anything I can do short of updating my Windows?

iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay, Anapod or Ephpod which will work with Windows 98/ME. However XPLay and Anapod are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP (which you may find at a discount price now that Vista is out) if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

Is it possible to install iTunes on Windows 8?

I tried everything to install itunes 64 bit to window 8,
Running the itunes64setup.exe as an administrator or changing the compatibility to windows 7 or vista didn't work for me.
The trick is itunes64setup.exe can be "exracted" with winrar or winzip or similar programs.
But my windows 8 laptop "can not execute" it so my husband exract the itunes64setup.exe file for me on his computer.
    The folder contains 6 files.
    AppleApplicationSupport.msi
    AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
    AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
    Bonjour64.msi
    iTunes64.msi
    SetupAdmin.exe
You can try to install them one by one and see if it is working for you.

    Hi Tamekia,
I am sorry to hear nothing has worked yet. I have looked up some additional information and possible solutions. Follow the steps in this document to perform a level-three uninstall, register the Windows Installer Service, and then reinstall the HP software. An uninstall and reinstall of the software deletes and overwrites any of the files that might cause the error and resets the Windows Installer. HP recommends that you download the latest software from the HP Web site to remove any files that might be causing this error.
Level-three uninstall, and register the Windows Installer Service

  • Looking to run windows on my MBPro through Bootcamp or Parallels, but would like to use a downloaded Windows 7, is it possible to install without the Windows Disc?

Looking to run windows on my MBPro through Bootcamp or Parallels, but would like to use a downloaded Windows 7, is it possible to install without the Windows Disc?
Need to set up a workstation on my MBPro that will only run on Windows. Im willing to use Bootcamp or Parallels to see what works best. Need to get this set up this week to enable working from home on my MB - rural and hoping to buy Windows 7 online - am I able to get windows working through either bootcamp or Parallels without the actual Windows disc? Bootcamp set up guide calls for a disc.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, the answer to your question is yes, it IS possible to install Windows in Parallels without a disc, using an .iso image file.
Boot Camp since OS X 10.8 also installs Windows without a disc: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4889551?tstart=0
Parallels has complete documentation, series of forums, and a knowledgebase. You can also download the current release of Parallels 9 and try it for free for a few weeks before you decide to purchase it.
The Parallels Desktop for Mac product page: http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/
The Desktop for Mac forums: http://forum.parallels.com/forumdisplay.php?58-Parallels-Desktop-for-Mac
    Documentation: http://www.parallels.com/support/desktop-virtualization/desktop/#c12970
The Knowledgebase for Desktop for Mac: http://kb.parallels.com
The primary difference between a Boot Camp installation and a Parallels installation is that in the Boot Camp installation, you're installing Windows into a separate partition on your internal mass storage device (hard drive or SSD) and then rebooting your Mac directly into Windows.
In Parallels, you're always running OS X on the Mac and Parallels is running a Windows virtual machine.
Not to get too technical here, but it is also possible for Parallels to run an installed Windows Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine. If you're evaluating system performance with a trial copy, that might be the way to go, because you only have to install Windows once on Boot Camp as a dual-boot system, then install Parallels Desktop and run the Boot Camp partition as the virtual machine.
There is a performance difference between the two, with the Boot Camp Windows installation being faster, but without the convenience of running both Mac and Windows applications simultaneously offered by Parallels. Sometimes that convenience outweighs a performance hit.
I can't give you more Mavericks and Parallels 9 specifics, because I'm currently running Windows 7 with Parallels 7 on OS X 10.8.5. Parallels 7 will not run on OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
I've been using Parallels (to run a few old rarely-used WIndows applications with features that would require a steep learning curve and major expense to purchase and learn a similar Mac app) occasionally since Parallels 3 and Windows XP. With each new release of OS X, each new release of Parallels, and each new Windows release, there are ALWAYS 'early adopter' bugs that get worked out over time.

  • Is it possible to install iTunes WHITHOUT installing quicktime ? because...

...I already have installed QuickTime Lite on my Windows XP Pro SP3 PC and I want to keep iTunes installation as lean as possible.
    Thanks

I have no idea what Quicktime Lite is so I can't speak to that.
It's a third-party chop-down of QuickTime, Meg, made by the same Codecs-Guide folk who made QuickTime Alternative, and still make the K-Lite codec packs. Roughly speaking, it's QuickTime componentry without a QuickTime Player, for folks who want to be able to play QuickTime content in their web browsers or, say, Media Player Classic, without having to install "QuickTime itself".
There's less of a "leaness" advantage to using QuickTime Lite or QuickTime Alternative nowadays with iTunes, instead of a standard Apple-supplied QuickTime, because QuickTime and iTunes both share a lot of program files via Apple Application Support. The last time I checked a QT Alternative installation, all the Apple Application Support componentry had been stashed in the QT Alternative program files. So the iTunes/QT-alternative combination "doubles up" all that componentry in Apple Application Support, even though it doen't include some of the Player componentry.
Also, as of 15 July 2010 Codecs Guide seem not to be supporting either QuickTime Lite or QT Alternative anymore:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickTime_Alternative
... so, you're likely to run into troubles if your iTunes version needs a higher version of QuickTime componentry than the ones in your current QT Lite. (Codecs Guide used to be really good about updating their QT Alternative componentry when a new version of iTunes came through ... if they aren't maintaining it any more, I'd be a bit worried about staying up to date with it.)
So I'd uninstall QT Lite and go with the standard QuickTime if you're going to be installing iTunes, nowadays.

  • TS3212 I have a new computer, a HP with windows 8. I try to install itunes and get error. Says the installer has encountered an enexpected error installing thics package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 2503.

I'm having problems installing Itines on my new computer with Windows 8. I always get problem with install. the error code is 2503. How do I correct this?

Although you're getting a different error message, perhaps try the procedure from the following user tip:

  • Windows 7 will not launch after installing itunes 11.1.5.

I initially tried updating itunes but it wouldn't so I uninstalled all Apple products in order per another post I found. Then reinstalled all products and itunes worked fine. I then shut down my computer for the night, then next day windows wouldn't launch.  I did a system restore prior to the itunes update and windows works fine.  I tried reinstalling itunes again and had the same problem.  So now I don't have itunes installed. Anyone know how to get itunes to not prevent windows 7 from launching?

My MBP (15", early 2009 model, 8GB RAM, 1TB internal drive) showed in Software Update as not needing any other updates, and I downloaded from Apple's site directly and installed iTunes 11.1.5 rather than doing it via Software Update (I've had some glitches with the 'direct' install from SU in the past, so I manually download updates from Apple's support website instead).
Hoping Apple will figure out what's wrong with this version under 10.6.8...

  • No possibility of installing iTunes on XP64

Is this true? I just tried to install iTunes for the new iPod my daughter got for Christmas. The regular installer told me I need to use the 64 bit installer. OK, I went and found the 64 bit installer. That one tells me it's only for Vista 64 or Windows 7.
Tech support basically told me that I'm out of luck. They don't have an installer for Windows XP 64 bit. Can you be serious? They didn't offer to help me with any kind of work-around. I'm definitely not a happy Apple consumer on this Christmas eve.

Yes it's true. There never was an iTunes for XP64.
Some people have had varied success in getting it installed.
Search in these forums or Google iTunes XP64.

  • My Windows 8 laptop keeps downloading and installing iTunes 10.2.1.1 even though the latest version is 11.0.3

Hi everyone, I'm having a really annoying problem in installing iTunes 11.0.3. I use a Dell laptop with windows 8 installed. I tried to download iTunes 11.0.3 for Windows 64 bit on apple.com. The size is actually 85Mb, but my downloads keep downloading the 77.5Mb version. So when I installed it turns out to be iTunes 10.2.1.1, the problem is iTunes 10.2.1.1 can't even recognize my iPad and I can't sync anything to it right now. Please help me because this problem is really getting on my nerves. Thank you

I tried the back-up and restore option tonight and it worked a charm.
Not sure why I had the problem in the first place but that was a relatively quick and easy fix :-)
    Just do the Factory restore...
    Works like magic!

  • Windows 7 BSOD randomly occuring after installing iTunes 10.6 with iPhone 4 in dock

After installing iTunes 10.6 and IOS 5.1 on my iPhone 4, Windows 7 computer was randomly blue screening with the iPhone 4 in the attached dock. After removing the phone from the dock, system works fine.

Re-installed iTunes as you suggested and it worked.  However, started experiencing random BSOD's.  Disk check found a number of file errors on the boot drive - which it fixed.  It then took a number of re-boots before computer became stable.
Then, upgraded iTunes on a HP workstation (no iPhone attached).  On reboot windows had to attempt a boot repair 3 times before it would reboot.  Couldn't even do a disk check without first reverting to the last restore point.  It also corrupted Norton.  The end result was 2.5 hours of wasted time.
Being an expert pc user, I can safely say that I believe Apple has some serious issues with 10.6.

  • I got a brand new windows 7 computer and can not install itunes

I tired to install itunes on my new windows 7 professional 64 bit computer. I downloaded "iTunes64Setup.exe" and get during execution of that program the error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Does anybody know what to do to get this install running to completion?

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
That's an interesting variation. It's a 1723 error message. (1721 and 1722 are more common.)
Even though the following user tip is about slightly different errors (the 1721 and 1722), perhaps try it with your one too:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows
