Windows Media Center and Xbox 360 have stopped communicating

I've had my Xbox and PC connected for years and have never had an issue until now. My laptop is running Windows 7, and has a wireless connection, but the Xbox is hardwired into my router. Now for some reason, the connection just stopped working. I
tried deleting the old extender connection in Windows Media Center and generated a new pass code for it on the Xbox. When I enter it in, my PC tells me that my Xbox is connected to a different network, but it's not. I only have the one network and I know my
PC isn't mistakenly connected to an unsecured, neighboring one. I've unplugged my modem and router, restarted the Xbox and my computer, checked my connection on both devices multiple times, but I can't seem to find a solution. So, what more can I do?

Check the support web site of the manufacturer of your wireless router for the latest firmware update and install it.  If none is available, proceed to
Reset Your Router to Factory Default Settings.

  • Problem streaming from Windows Media Center to XBOX 360 with Airports?

    Good evening,
I have been having an issue trying to stream windows media center from my windows 7 ultimate (64 bit if that helps) to my Xbox 360. My network setup is:
I have an airport extreme (G) that is plugged into my cable modem and my windows 7 machine. In my living room I have an airport express that extends my wireless signal through out the house but my xbox 360 is plugged into it via ethernet. I have a very fast internet connection that is stable but any transfer between my computer and xbox is very limited it seems. I was wonder if there is a way to get this to work better. When I lunch windows media center on the xbox it sees my pc and it shows the available files but when I try and move from one to the other nothing happens and eventually I get a can't connect error. Would I be better off not connecting via ethernet to the airport express and just buying a wireless adapter?
    Thanks

You don't say how your devices are connected, whether through your Verizon router or some other way.  If through, say, an Actiontec then you may be having bottleneck issues.  I used to run all my devices through my Actiontec and got poor transfer speeds (it only handles 10/100).  Moving everything on my network to a 10/100/1000 switch helped my transfer speeds to shoot right up ten fold.  This way only the switch gets connected to my Actiontec and my network devices can still get out on the 'net if needed.
It's ok to try to reinvent the wheel, but just make sure it's round.

  • ITunes and Windows Media Center on XBOX 360

I can't get my iTunes to play through my xbox 360's Media Center. It will play all my pictures and videos but says "a problem has occured" when I try to open iTunes. Please help

  • TS1717 i recently downloaded two tracks from itunes: they will not play in my windows media center even though i have added them to that location. any idea what other trouble shooting i can attempt on this issue??

i recently downloaded two tracks from itunes and they will not play in my windows media center. i have never had this problem but the two tracks play on my PC just not in the windows media center and usually all my itunes music plays in there no problem??? any idea what to do? thanks

I'm searching for an answer to almost the same exact problem, using almost the same exact hardware and software. Has an answer been found?
The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help.

  • Windows Media Center (IE XBOX) problems

I turn on the xbox go to WMC it starts right up,after a minute or two i get disconnected due to this message:
    Extender Disconnected
A program on your windows media center pc has caused the xbox 360 to disconnect would you like to reconnect?
    reconnect                                cancel
But then it reconnects its self and does it again and again
Please help me figure this one out, very aggravating.
FYI my computer was recently wiped completely due to a power outage

    Hi,
It can be caused by some anti-virus software installed in your system or some other 3 rd party applications, turn off the anti-virus as a test.
For 3 rd party applications, you can boot you system into a cleanboot mode, if it disappear in this mode, then follow the instructions in this kb to narrow down the cause.

  • When I click on a photo, I now get Windows Media Center and can't get my photos. Can I get rid of this?

I used to be able to click a photo and have it open. Now I have this massive page of "stuff" titled Windows Media Center. Can I get rid of this or find a way around it to view pix?

Type '''about:preferences#applications'''<enter> in the address bar.
Change that file type to the program you want to use.

  • Contivity VPN Client, Windows Media Center and Linksys

Has anyone had any issues connecting through VPN on Windows Media? I am using Contivity Client V6.01 (I've also tried some previous versions) and going through a Linksys router with a wireless connection. My laptop, which runs XP Home, runs flawlessly with the same client and the same connection parameters through the same Linksys router.
When I first connect to the VPN site, it appears successful. Just a few seconds later, my wireless connection disappears. It's not just the media center, either -- it brings down my whole internet connection. Once the VPN client detects the loss of the connections, just a few seconds later, the internet connection reconnects. It's as though the VPN connection and my home network's internet connection are mutally exclusive.
    Anyone else find a solution?

you might need to upgrade the firmware of your router and make sure that the configuration is right. because losing internet access at the same time will also be the cause of the configuration of the router.

  • Windows media center on the xbox with wrt110

I have my network set up, and it works really well. My only complaint is that I can not get a conection between my PC & xbox 360 so I can use windows media center. I can connect to the internet with the 360, but I can not get a connetion to my pc.
    I am using a Wirless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster & 2.4GHz 802.11g. Windows Vista,  & WRT110.
How can I get this to work????????

To use Windows Media Center with your Xbox 360 console, you must have a PC running Windows Media Center. You have a compatible Windows Media Center PC if you have:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Windows Vista Ultimate
Note : Windows Media Center is not included with Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Home Basic, or Windows Vista Business.
To set up Windows Media Center on your console:
       1. On your Windows Media Center PC, go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup to make sure your software is up-to-date.
       2. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open Windows Media Center.
       3. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish Windows Media Center setup.

  • E3000 + Windows Media Center

    Hello --
I am trying to setup my laptop (and hopefully my desktop) to an XBOX 360 for Windows Media Center. I configured the XBOX so that it changed from Moderate to perfect by configuring the port forwarding and sent to a reserved IP address on the XBOX. I can browse my internal network on my Windows 7 laptop and see both the laptop, desktop, the XBOX and the router all on the same network (they are all connected to the same band, but I tried doing it in seperate bands too with no difference).
I get the Windows Media Center codes from the XBOX and I plug them into Windows Media Center and it cannot find the XBOX. I turned the Windows Firewall off too and that made no difference. I opened up the ports (on the XBOX and tried it on the laptop) based on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728 for configuring the XBOX as the extender. I am not sure which device (XBOX or laptop) gets those ports forwarded but I tried it both ways and it made no difference -- the device could not be seen.
I tried it with uPNP and with it off -- made no difference.
Anyone with any ideas or experience using XBOX Windows Media Center Extender with the E3000??? Thanks in advance.

Hopefully this thread will get a solution.  I have the same problem.  I can not get Windows Media Center to recognize that I have an (new) Xbox 360 and I can't get the Xbox to see any PC's.  I can see the Xbox in Media Sharing and have it checked to share media.
When moving through the steps of the Media Center -> Task -> Add Extender it tells me that my Windows Firewall settings need to be changed, but it's turned off.  As is the firewall on Norton.
Don't mean to hijack the thread here, just hoping that a solution is found.
    Thanks,

  • Windows Media Center Crashes

    Hi!
I tried to connect my Xbox 360 with my PC through Windows Media Center Extender. WMC asks for a setup key given by the Xbox. I entered the key and when i clicked on "Continue" button WMC crashed. This happened every time I tried. I also tried in
Clean Boot mode, but the program chrashed just the same as in normal mode. I need help, because I have no idea why is this happening.

    Remove the existing computer connection
To fix this problem, remove the existing computer connection. Here's how:
On your console, go to the Settings and then System.
    Select Computers.
    Select Windows Media Center.
    Select Disconnect.
Go back to Xbox Home. Select Apps and then My Apps.
    Select Windows Media Center.
You should now see a setup key:
Set up Windows Media Center on Windows 7 and Xbox 360
Troubleshoot the connection between Windows Media Center and your Xbox 360

  • Boot camp & Windows Media Center

    Hi!
I'm thinking about buying Windows 7 because I'm interested in using Windows Media Center and streaming it to my Xbox 360.
Before I take the plunge and buy it, I wanted to make sure that Windows Media Center is in fact compatible and works on a Mac. A Google search brought up some old problems where users were having to make some weird install discs to get it to work on older versions of Windows, and it made me a little nervous about purchasing...
    Thanks!

  • How can I convert the metadata tags on my mp4s to xml files so that they can be read in Windows Media Center?

I have a library with almost 3000 movies and TV shows that I have fully tagged. However, I have decided to start using Windows Media Center and it does its metadata tagging through XML files.  I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if there was a way to extract the metadata from those mp4s and convert them to a format that WMC could read?  Thanks!!!!

iTunes can make XML playlists so it might be all you need, I made a simple one file playlist and exported it from iTunes. The result is shown below. In principle I could delete the playlist and the entry from the library, as long as I don't delete the file, then later reimport the XML playlist file. I haven't tested this particular scenario, but I assume that iTunes will read all the properties as listed unless it can read some kind of tag from the file itself in which case the current value of the tag would take precedence.
What I don't know is what media center would make of this file, or what its files look like, however assuming they have a similar structure that can be decoded then it should be possible to read data from the iTunes library and write out a text file that will make sense to media centre.

  • Recovering Downloads not in Windows Media Center

I download an item and when I try to open it, it goes to Windows Media Center and I can not find it their or any other downloads I have.
I am using Windows 7 and this did not happen in XP - Why?
How can I open my downloads without Windows Media Center?
    Thanks for your help
    Leon

    Hi Leon,
If you are using Internet Explorer, when you click to download a file, choose Save when the download window appears.  This will then open another window showing you where the file is going to be saved.  If you are happy with this, click Ok.  When the download has finished, click Open Folder to go straight to where your file is.
    Hope this helps.

  • Envy 23 Protected Content Error in Window Media Center

I have a brand new HP Envy 23 with Windows 8 and Intel HD Graphics.  I run Windows Media Center and have an HD Homerun Cable Card TV Tuner attached on my network so Media Center can redord HD Cable programs.
Recorded programs play back fine to my XBOX360 Media Center Extender, however, if I try to watch a recorded show on the HP Envy (which is the machine doing the actual recording) I get an error message that the Display Device Does Not Support the Playback of Protected Content.
I was hoping a display driver update might fix this, but I don't see any available.  Since HP offers this machine with a TV tuner, and with Blu-Ray, I would think the Intel HD Grapics Hardware and the display would support HD playback.
Has anyone else encountered this, and found a solution?
    Thanks!

    Hi jfmcgowan,
I have been researching the problem that you are having and came across several other people that were having the same problem. The closest thing that I could find to a solution was the link below. It is regarding Contect Protection Messages Interrupt View of High Definition Movies. Try that out and let me know.

  • Windows 10 update deprecates Windows Media Center

I was looking forward to the Wnidows 10 upgrade until I heard that Windows Media Center was going to be deleted during the update. My PC has great hardware integration with this software; DVB-T firmware and a really usefull remote control. All of which is likely to be unusable after the upgrade. Does HP have any future alternatives under Windows 10 planned that may be adopted by current users to maintain similar functionality?

According to the Device Manager, the internal TV Tuner is from AVerMedia, an H323 MiniCard Hybrid DVB-T.I have tried a few applications to connect to this tuner, but none have been successful, nor offered functionality similar to Windows Media Center. AVerMedia do not even acknowledge this specific hardware on their site, and their software is bundled with the hardware, which HP have not provided as part of this PC. DVB-T hardware aside, the remote is designed for Windows Media Center, and may not function with other software. The original enquiry was directed towards HP's future computers which will be bundled with Windows 10. If these future computers also have a TV Tuner, will that associated software be functional with current TouchSmart PCs?
