Windows media center on the xbox with wrt110

I have my network set up, and it works really well. My only complaint is that I can not get a conection between my PC & xbox 360 so I can use windows media center. I can connect to the internet with the 360, but I can not get a connetion to my pc.
I am using a Wirless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster & 2.4GHz 802.11g. Windows Vista,  & WRT110.
How can I get this to work????????

To use Windows Media Center with your Xbox 360 console, you must have a PC running Windows Media Center. You have a compatible Windows Media Center PC if you have:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Ultimate
Note : Windows Media Center is not included with Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Home Basic, or Windows Vista Business.
To set up Windows Media Center on your console:
   1. On your Windows Media Center PC, go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup to make sure your software is up-to-date.
   2. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open Windows Media Center.
   3. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish Windows Media Center setup.

  • Problem streaming from Windows Media Center to XBOX 360 with Airports?

    Good evening,
I have been having an issue trying to stream windows media center from my windows 7 ultimate (64 bit if that helps) to my Xbox 360. My network setup is:
I have an airport extreme (G) that is plugged into my cable modem and my windows 7 machine. In my living room I have an airport express that extends my wireless signal through out the house but my xbox 360 is plugged into it via ethernet. I have a very fast internet connection that is stable but any transfer between my computer and xbox is very limited it seems. I was wonder if there is a way to get this to work better. When I lunch windows media center on the xbox it sees my pc and it shows the available files but when I try and move from one to the other nothing happens and eventually I get a can't connect error. Would I be better off not connecting via ethernet to the airport express and just buying a wireless adapter?
    Thanks

You don't say how your devices are connected, whether through your Verizon router or some other way.  If through, say, an Actiontec then you may be having bottleneck issues.  I used to run all my devices through my Actiontec and got poor transfer speeds (it only handles 10/100).  Moving everything on my network to a 10/100/1000 switch helped my transfer speeds to shoot right up ten fold.  This way only the switch gets connected to my Actiontec and my network devices can still get out on the 'net if needed.
It's ok to try to reinvent the wheel, but just make sure it's round.

  • WRT610N, WET610N, XBOX, Windows Media Center Setup

I've searched the heck out of these forums and others.  Most of the posts regarding connection problems between the Xbox and Windows Media Center using the WRT610N are fairly old and seem unresolved.  I fear the people that had the problem have either solved it, and didn't return to post the solution or worse, gave up and returned their router.
I have the WRT610N V2 and I'd like to know if I can reliably use it with my xbox before the opportunity to exchange it ends.  I've always been a fan of Linksys.  But I am not inclined to suffer this degraded performance.  Is there a recommended WRT610N setup for reliable performance with the Xbox?
Yes, this is the second time I've asked the question here.  But I got nothing on my first and suspected the subject didn't draw enough or the right attention.  Please help.  I really don't want to give up on Linksys.

    Follow up to the situation.
Keep in mind that most of the suggestions regarding the 610n and the Xbox 360 problems are pretty old and I believe related to V1 of the router.  The lack of response I've gotten lead me to believe these suggestions were not applicable to V2.  But rest assured, I'm not imagining this problem.  The connection from the Xbox and WMC is inconsistent at startup, halts occasionally, and hiccups in streaming music pretty regularly.
I have really only tested in the few hours I have available on weeknights.  I don't have the time to completely rearrange the network configuration every evening to try all of the suggestions I've read.  Especially since I can't change much on the adapter remotely.  I have to pull out my equipment rack, pull the power plug out of the surge protector to bring it into the office where the desktop computer is to reconfigure it.  Because of this, I have been hesitant to make a lot of changes hoping that someone would post the "no shyt solution".
What's really got me is that since buying this router just this past weekend (at BestBuy by the way) I've had such varying results with little configuration change.  Sunday I got everything up just fine, but had hiccups in the streaming music.  Monday I had to power down everything to get the xbox to connect to WMC and I switched to static IPs at that time.  Once connected, I had the hiccups in the streaming music using WMC and LastFM.  Then on Tuesday evening, I still had the hiccups.  Then on Wednesday night, everything worked perfectly (both WMC and LastFM).  But I hadn't changed anything since the hiccups on Tuesday night.  I thought maybe the router needed time to settle in?  Yeah, pretty crazy notion given we're talking about networking.  If it's going to work, you'd think it would work right off the bat or not work.  So Thursday night, last night, the hiccups were back (both WMC and LastFM).  And they seemed worse than ever before.
I would like to note that I have frequently tested the alternative method of streaming music with the xbox that uses the Windows Media Player vice Windows Media Center.  That capability has had no problem at any time.  The WMC is a more pleasant and richer interface but I didn't have a WMC capable computer before.  So in a pinch, I can continue using the WMP interface if I'm entertaining and haven't gotten this WMC thing worked out.  But I had the WMP interface with my old Linksys G equipment.  I just spent a fair dollar to gain N and WMC, I feel I have wasted my money if I have to drop back to the WMP interface.
Anyway, back to results...  I'm off today and figured I'll try some of the suggestions.  This morning initially, the xbox will connect with WMC, but won't maintain the connection.  This is before I even fire up any music.  So, here I am again scanning the Linksys forum for the suggestions.  I figure I'll try the recommendations that don't require me to pull the WET610N into my office for reconfiguration.  Ok, so a few easy recommendations (mind you, these were all provided for the V1, I haven't read anything particular to the V2), is to change the Beacon Interval to 50, Fragmentation and RTS Thresholds to 2306 and 2307 respectively.  So far, that's all I've done, and of course powered the router and adapter down.
Everything is working perfectly.  Am I convinced I have a solution?  No.  As I've read and in my own experience, things in this router change day to day.  What works today might not work tomorrow.
So if there is anyone out there that is familiar with this problem, your insight would be invaluable to me!

  • Windows Media Center Crashes

    Hi!
I tried to connect my Xbox 360 with my PC through Windows Media Center Extender. WMC asks for a setup key given by the Xbox. I entered the key and when i clicked on "Continue" button WMC crashed. This happened every time I tried. I also tried in
Clean Boot mode, but the program chrashed just the same as in normal mode. I need help, because I have no idea why is this happening.

    Remove the existing computer connection
To fix this problem, remove the existing computer connection. Here's how:
On your console, go to the Settings and then System.
    Select Computers.
    Select Windows Media Center.
    Select Disconnect.
Go back to Xbox Home. Select Apps and then My Apps.
    Select Windows Media Center.
You should now see a setup key:
Set up Windows Media Center on Windows 7 and Xbox 360
Troubleshoot the connection between Windows Media Center and your Xbox 360

  • Windows Media Center Weak/No TV Signal until I restart...

    SYSTEM INFORMATION:
I have Windows 7 x64 Home Premium installed on my system. I have a dual TV DVB-T Tuner installed (Geniatech T1880). I have an ASUS M2N68-CM Motherboard, 3.1GHz AMD 64 Dual Core CPU, 4GB DDRII RAM, 1TB HDD space, ATi Radeon HD 4350 512MB Graphics Card.
    PROBLEM:
Sometimes, when I try and watch TV on my PC, I get either no TV Signal, or Weak TV signal, no matter what I do, whether its rescan, try new cables, try another Arial socket, none of these work, however, if I just restart, it seams to kick the tuner back into action again, this works every time, although I cannot find what could be causing the issue in the first place.
Any ideas? Any suggestions would be helpful!
    Michael.

I have tried the software that the user recommended on the other forum from PetrPruner 's post. That proved for me that my drivers seam to be fine, however, I'm currently in the process of installing some of the latest drivers, and I will report back on that soon!
I also just received a Windows Update from Microsoft regarding Windows Media Center for x64 systems, so I'm going to run some testing, and I'll get back to you on that as well, hopefully with some details on the update itself, and where it can be downloaded if it doesn't come through for anyone.
Update: The latest Windows Media Center update hasn't worked at all for me, no better no worse.
Incase anyone else wants to give it a go, and it hasn't come through Windows Update yet, here's the link:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=179608
Update: I've now updated all of my drivers, and flashed my BIOS... Updating the drivers did nothing but waste time for me, but for others it may work, so try it! Flashing the BIOS seamed to have improved the issue, although after leaving it running for some time, its back, and just as bad, so that hasn't worked either :(
Just done a bit more research following up on PetrPruner's link, which also sugested finding drivers that use the same chipset, but what would be for a different card. This has fixed the slight spiking the DPC Latency Checker software was reporting, although it hasn't fixed the issue with Windows Media Center loosing the signal over time.

  • Windows movie maker/ windows media center question

I have a camera that records video in .mov .h264 format that I save on my pc using windows live movie maker. It converts it to a wmv video format still in the 1080P resolution it was shot in. The question I have is that when I go to burn these files to a dvd using windows media center does the resulting video end up down converted to standard definition instead of the HD it was saved as. Is there something I have to change in the settings on windows media center to be able to burn these files in same 1080P resolution it was filmed in, or do I have to convert the .mov files to something other than Windows media video to be able to keep the HD quality, or do I need a different burner other than DVD(blu-ray) for example to be able to burn these files. I have a blu-ray player.

I'll let others answer the question on Windows Movie Maker...
Keep in mind if you put an HD video on a DVD... not all DVD players will support it.  You may wish to burn to a Blu-Ray disk.
Personally I use Premiere Elements or Pinnacle Studio.  I create an MP4 file and then save it to a DVD for those without Blue-Ray

  • Media manager and windows media center

How do I set the Fios Media manager to stream content from the Windows media center to the TV?  I was able to set up media manager on a Vista desktop.  Would like to set it up on 64 bit new laptop that can be upgraded to windows 7.  Please provide step by step instructions.

I do not think you can do this unless you can convert the Windows Media Center recording to a type of file which is supported by Verizon Media Manager.  Media Center files have an extension of  *.dvr-ms.     Verizon Media Manager ONLY supports .avi, .wmv, .flv, 3gp/3g2, .mpg(non-mpeg 2 videos) and .mp4/m4v  files.  I have been meaning to try this as well,  but have not yet.
Can anyone recommend a good and free video converter for this?
Blame MS for this... that is using a propriety video format...
    Let us know if successful.

  • Using the Apple Remote with Windows Media Center

    Hello guys
First of all, I am Swiss, so excuse me for my bad English (grammar and stuff...)
So, my problem: I bought the Apple Remote and I think it is very awsome! But since Apple has removed Front Row in Lion, I don't really can use it anymore. So I'd tried to use it with Windows 7 Media Center. But it doesn't work correctly. Does anyone know, how to fix that?
    Thank you

I had a Green Button remote provided with HP PC XP, Vista for Windows Media Center prior to getting Mac Pro.
Now in Lion, I have Hauppauge WinTV HVR-980 USB adapter (less than $100) including a remote that works in Lion for the Hauppauge TV app.
In Windows, the same remote works with all "Media Center" processes Music, Pictures, TV... instead of mouse/keyboard. If your TV service requires set top box, then you have to use its remote to change channels.
If ISP's internet Co-Ax also carries TV signal, you can get Cable Splitter (smple picture):
    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-Way-TV-RF-Coaxial-Cable-Splitter-CATV-Signal-/320868649 227?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab543090b
and feed 1 co-ax to USB TV adapter, the other to your Modem/Router.
The Hauppage USB was a good choice because it serves Mac & Windows.
Also, In Windows, if you have an XBox, it can be used as "Extender" for your A/V output.

Although this may not answer your question, it describes other options.

Based on what you've posted, your computer does not have the right tuner.   You need a QAM tuner to record locals from FiOS, or a CableCard tuner to record all local and cable channels from FiOS.
QAM tuners to record local channels only
This requires Windows Vista or Windows 7
    Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250
SiliconDust HDHomeRun (info on a sale)
CableCard tuner to record local and cable channels
This requires Windows 7 + one CableCard from Verizon for $3.99/mo
ATI TV Wonder Digital PC CableCard Tuner (records one channel at a time) -- $200-$250 on ebay
Ceton MOCUR tuner (records four channels at a time) -- coming in early 2010 for $400-$600
Make sure your computer has Windows 7 Home Premium (or better) installed.   That's necessary to support CableCard tuners.

  • How can I convert the metadata tags on my mp4s to xml files so that they can be read in Windows Media Center?

I have a library with almost 3000 movies and TV shows that I have fully tagged. However, I have decided to start using Windows Media Center and it does its metadata tagging through XML files.  I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if there was a way to extract the metadata from those mp4s and convert them to a format that WMC could read?  Thanks!!!!

iTunes can make XML playlists so it might be all you need, I made a simple one file playlist and exported it from iTunes. The result is shown below. In principle I could delete the playlist and the entry from the library, as long as I don't delete the file, then later reimport the XML playlist file. I haven't tested this particular scenario, but I assume that iTunes will read all the properties as listed unless it can read some kind of tag from the file itself in which case the current value of the tag would take precedence.
What I don't know is what media center would make of this file, or what its files look like, however assuming they have a similar structure that can be decoded then it should be possible to read data from the iTunes library and write out a text file that will make sense to media centre.

  • How can I use the FM tuner in Windows Media Center?

    Hi everyone.
    New to the threads.
Found this site while looking for answers to a problem I'm having. ?:|
I received my Toshiba Satellite computer as a Christmas gift. I noticed it has a cool FM tuner feature.
I also have been playing around with Windows Media Center.
However, I cannot figure out how to operate the FM tuner inside WMC....?
I added the NXP FM tuner program to the "extras" on WMC, but instead of opening up the tuner inside WMC it just opens the separate program.
Does anyone know how I can use the FM tuner (or a different one perhaps?) inside WMC?
    Thank you! :)

    Hello
I don't have any experience with this because my Satellite doesnt have FM Tuner but nice discussion about it you can find under
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=138027
If you will find final solution it will be nice if you can describe own experience with it. It can be useful for other people here.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Premiere Elements cause problems with Windows Media Center while streaming to TV.

I was having the following problem:
The audio from the streaming process of a recorded TV show on my HP computer to the remote receivers, a Sony Blu-ray player and/or a Sony Streaming Player, results in the loss of audio signal at exactly 30 seconds from the beginning on either devices. The video continues on as normal.
A user on the Windows 7 forum had the following possible cause and solution.  His response was as follows:
I "solved" my issue, at least partially. Turns out for me a codec installed by Adobe Premiere Elements for audio (Main Concept) was causing mfpmp.exe to fail (you should see it getting an appcrash in the event log two or three times as soon as you start playing the media remotely.) This program is used by microsoft for DRM. I went through and one by one remained the various attached (non-microsoft) modules until i found the one that caused the appcrash. I haven't fully figured out if Elements is now negatively effected, but that's for a different forum.
I tried the quick fix by un-installing Adobe Premiere Elements.  The uninstall solved my problem with Windows Media Center, but I want to re-install the software but I do not want to recreate the problem with Windows Media Center.
Is there another solution for this problem?

I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and the above mention problem reoccured.  With a little detective work I was able to determine that the file causing my problem was "mc_dec_dd_ds.ax".  I am not sure what this does to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 since I removed (renamed) the offending file.  A strange side affect, renaming the file did cause an increase volume. Strange.

  • No compatability with older printer hardware/software and no windows media center

What can I say except that Microsoft is the only company that releases an inferior product after years of having a great product. Windows 8.1 and 8 would be fine if it were compatible with old hardware i.e. printers and had Windows Media Center. This is
now a very bare bones product. I certainly won't be paying the $129 price tag for Windows Pro 8.1 pack, just to get media center - not when there's so many free alternatives around for that. In future, don't purchase a photo quality printer that costs a fortune.
Buy a nasty cheap one with inexpensive cartridges, as eventually you won't be able to install the older software for your far superior printer i.e. Epson stylus photo 1270.  Sounds like a collusion with both Microsoft and Printer manufacturers to get
folk purchasing hardware they don't want or need, while they're older hardware works just fine - it's the new operating systems that don't. No thank you.

    Hi,
Please understand that Microsoft's partners have shared clear concerns over the costs associated with codec licensing for traditional media playback, especially as Windows 8 enables an unprecedented variety of form factors. Windows has addressed these concerns
in the past by limiting availability of these experiences to specialized “media” or “premium” editions.
That's why the Media center is separated for additional cost.
For the compatibility thing about older device, you can use the compatible mode to install the related driver on Windows 8 and 8.1 to get it work.

  • Problem connect mac to internet with pc w/windows media center os

I share a wireless DSL connection with my roommate. Everything was working fine for a long time until she bought a Sony PC with Windows Media Center OS on it. Every time she connects to the internet, she doesn't think it works very well for her. But, if she leaves the house (and therefore is not using her computer online) I can reset the DSL modem and the wireless router and then my internet connection from my iBook works like a lovely breeze. Then she comes home, connects her computer and the internet doesn't work for either of us. She insists it is not "her computer" and doesn't believe that I could be receiving such a seamless connection when she's not around. Does anyone know (1) if there are issues with Windows Media Center OS that would cause this problem and (2) What I can do to fix the situation?

Actually, it sounds like her computer might have a Static IP set, which tries to grab your IP... you might cure it by changing your setup to "Using DHCP with Manual Address" and using a couple numbers higher than what it says when it does work.

  • Windows Media Center and Xbox 360 have stopped communicating

I've had my Xbox and PC connected for years and have never had an issue until now. My laptop is running Windows 7, and has a wireless connection, but the Xbox is hardwired into my router. Now for some reason, the connection just stopped working. I
tried deleting the old extender connection in Windows Media Center and generated a new pass code for it on the Xbox. When I enter it in, my PC tells me that my Xbox is connected to a different network, but it's not. I only have the one network and I know my
PC isn't mistakenly connected to an unsecured, neighboring one. I've unplugged my modem and router, restarted the Xbox and my computer, checked my connection on both devices multiple times, but I can't seem to find a solution. So, what more can I do?

Check the support web site of the manufacturer of your wireless router for the latest firmware update and install it.  If none is available, proceed to
Reset Your Router to Factory Default Settings.
