Windows media centre 2005

hi everyone
i've just completed my 1st self build and i am having problems installing windows media centre 2005,
pc specs are   coolermaster cavalier case, 450w psu, msi k8n neo platinum socket 754(nvidia nforce 3 250gb), athlon64 3000+, connect 3d 9600xt all in wonder,  200 gb sata, floppy drive and craetive audigy 2zs ( not installed yet), 512 ddr
when i run set-up everything seems fine, it lets me install the sata and nvidia drivers and patition the hard drive but during 'copying files to system' it keeps coming up with various .dll files which cannot be copied (kerberos, winscard, devmgr etc) and when the system reboots to hard drive it just hangs out for a while during installing windows or comes up with error-box stating 'could not find ________ file in directory.
is there a patch or something i need to solve this problem and if so where can i get it?
any help would be much appreciated

I dont have Windows XP Media Center Edition myself, and just for curiosity i checked from microsoft what it is like... and they say this:
Quote
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is a Windows XP operating system available only on Media Center personal computers. Because of their special hardware feature requirements, Media Center PCs running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 are available only from Microsoft PC manufacturer partners.

So are you sure your PC is suitable for Media Center PC?

  • Windows Media Centre on 8.1 - Please Help

I am an IT professional... I've spent the last 30 minutes going round in an endless loop of pathetic instructions that lead me nowhere. I'm trying to install Windows Media Centre on Windows 8.1 Pro.
    I firstly found this page:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs
    Following the instructions
    "Enter add
features in the search box, and then tap or click Settings."
Either takes me back to the same webpage in the URL above or to the legacy "Add/Remove" Windows features, neither of which is helpful.
So I looked up another page:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/get-started-with-windows-media-center
    Enter Windows
Media Center in the search box, and then tap or click Windows
    Media Center.
The only result for this as it isn't installed, is a web page. Which surprise, takes me around in another loop eventually back to the same web page after clicking eventually on
the link that says "Get it".
I can only assume there is something that is supposed to be appearing about adding features to the OS that actually isn't showing at all.
This entire experience is absolutely unacceptable.
Can someone PLEASE provide for me simple instructions to install this feature that actually work or resemble in the slightest what I am seeing on the actual operating system.

Try the procedure at http://www.ghacks.net/2013/09/18/install-media-center-pack-windows-8-1/ - just hit the Windows key and type features when the Start screen
    appears.
There is no box to type in, just type the word.

  • Boot Camp and Windows Media Centre Edition?

Just curious ... has anyone tried installing Windows Media Centre Edition with Boot Camp on their MacBook Pro? If so, how did it work out? Any issues?

    Look here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2090789??
In general, I'd say the Boot Camp forum is a better place to work on Boot Camp issues than in the model-specific ones.
Also, searching first is always recommended. In most cases, a person coming to these forums with a question or an issue is not the first one. With one exception, of course…

  • Windows Media Centre - Windows Media Foundation - Windows Apps. Replacement for WMC

Still looking for a PVR replacement but DVBLogic looks like it might do the job.
Have gone down the Plex Windows App route (The clostest replacement to WMC player so far) but they are saying they are hamstrung by limitations of the App sandbox? and Windows Media Foundation.
I need some concrete information from the Windows Media Centre People or Windows Media Foundation people so that developers can be steered in the right direction to help people like me switch over from WMC to something else without major headaches, frustrations,
days and days of conversion and metadata reentry.

    Hi,
Since Windows Media Centre almost didn't make it into Windows 8 I have been looking to move to something else before it disappears for good.
While it might just make it into Windows 10 there certainly won't be any future development.
I not a big fan of Microsoft products but WMC is one application they nailed
    Some additional smart recording options
i.e. I had to add "The Big Bang Theory - Return", "The Big Bang Theory - New", "The Big Bang Theory - Finale" etc to my series recording
A proper library manager (Plex does a great job of this) e.g. by series, season, episode - Movies - Documentaries etc with additional data downloaded.
    A few more playable formats/containers
    It would be perfect.
A proper Library wasn't as important as most of the metadata could be viewed directly in windows explorer.
    Not supported with other containers.
This brings me to the first obstacle.
All the alternatives I have looked at so far can't or won't support .wtv files
Converting the files to another format/container loses all the explorer properties. (And some of the metadata completely)
Discussions I have had so far are pointing the finger at the "Windows Media Foundation"
I.e. Developers can't do anything with .wtv files because WMF doesn't support them.
So the question is: If Windows Media Centre is no longer viable for Microsoft why haven't they atleast provided the tools for developers to support the format/container they forced upon so many users of their product.
    i.e. Metadata reader/writer
    Codec/Container? player?

When I import a video I recorded to my laptop from my Iphone 5c  it won't play on window media centre or vec or any medium. Please help??? It plays perfect on the phone.

The format from the phone is :
h.264 encoded video, AAC audio. Both standards of MPEG 4.
You need Windows Media Player version 12 or above to play MP4 (or add the codecs to your current version).

  • I Have an Apple iphone 4.  It will import my photos but when plugged into windows media centre it says connect a device even when the phone is connected.  Why is this?

I have an Apple iphone 4.   It will import my photos but when I am in Windows Media Centre and want to sync music   it asks me to Connect a Device when my phone is already connected.    I have been able to do this in the past but for some reason this fault has just begun   Do you know the reason for this?

Are you certain that it is locked to Orange?
Regardless, Apple does not lock devices, carriers do.
If the carrier refuses to unlock the device there is nothing that can be done.

  • Mega sky 580 and Windows Media Centre

First of all, hello to you all! this is the first time i have ever uesd a forum, and i hope that someone can help me.
Just yesturday a purcahsed a mega sky 580, with the intention to use it with windows media centre.  It does work ok in media center but there is one thing that bothers me and that is the aspect.
As some chanels are transmitted in widescreen, i.e. BBC 1 you get the two blak lines at the top and bottom of the screen when watching it on a non-widescreen telly, which is fine if the program is in widescreen but if it is not you also get two black lines down the side of the screen.  this means that there is a massive amount of the screen not being used.
Is there anyway to change the aspect so that the tv picture fills the screen? ... on my old digi box there an option for centre zoom, is there something like that offered either by the 580 or media centre.
    Thanks for any help!

in Media Center, press the (i) More button on your remote, and then select 'Zoom'
BBC broadcasts all its output in 16:9 format, even older recordings which were not widescreen, hence the black side bars on 4:3 shows. the BBC channels are the only ones that do this, other channels will automatically switch from 16:9 to 4:3

  • Windows media centre only alowing 2 chanel stereo(audigy2

I have built up my media cantre pc first using windows xp home, and had full 5. surrond via the 3 cables from the back of my pc into a set of logitec z5500 speakers!
Uptill yesterday when i formated windows to put on windows mediacentre 2005 version all was well.
After i loaded my motherboard drivers, loaded the driver cd for my soundcard i only had stereo .
The sound test goes from front left to right and no front, sub or rear sound at all.(all 6 speakers show up on the test but dont work)
Yet prior to this all was well.
I have net framework . all windows updates, driver updates for my asus terminator 2 pc.
I had to download the mediacentre edition driver for my ati saphire 9600xt card and also installed the media centre soundcard add on from here too.
I have checked and rechecked the cables and they are plugged in correctly ,i have told windows that i am using 5. speakers i get sound everytime i boot up but only from the front 2
I have even removed the soundcard and re-inseted it
I cant believe i have forked out for media centre and cant use it fully with my speakers, the other half is unimpressed as i told here how good it would be!
Please someone if there is a fix or if i have missed something help if you would be so kind

ok seemed to have sorted it ,there is a setting on the speaker pod (on the reciever/ input device) and had got changed to the wrong imput (strange as it never gets chaged as the pc is the only imput i use) but there you go lol
I am now a happy bunny as the the other half.

  • Why can't I update my Audigy 2 ZS? Windows Media Centre Editi

The message subject says it all. I'm not able to update from the 2003 drivers that are included on my CD. The 2006 XP drivers did not work with my Windows (XP) "Media Centre" edition. This is causing problems with a lot of new games I'm trying to enjoy.
Where do I go from here?
Seriously, If I had known that I would have to use dated audio drivers I wouldn't have paid $20 of my hard earned money for this card...

Have you tryed removing the drivers within device manager?
Right click on My Computer > properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound?Video?Game Controllers?> Creative Audigy 2 ZS (thats a guess at the driver name).
just right click and uninstall then restart your PC (remember to let it do its hardware check first and it shouldn't reconise the software)?and install the new driver. Just incase of conflicts
If it still does it the remove all the Creative software Inlcuding Programs like THX, Audio Console, Drivers etc.. Media Source Should be OK to leave in but i would uninstall it anyway just incase.
Then install the new driver FIRST!?And do a Custom install on the Main CD but incheck the drivers.
If this doesn't help then it gets more complicated Regedit ETC... But thats your choice to play with registry :S

    Hi,
Is there any reason you have pipenames in your listener.ora? Make a backup of your original file, then try to remove extra entries by making it simpler. After each change, attempt to start the listener. Also, it may prove helpful to post your listener.ora.

  • DMA2200 and Windows Media Centre

    Hi All,
I've just purchased one of these, and am already having WMC problems - which a quick look through this forum suggests is not uncommon!
Anyhow, I'm hoping someone has the answer to my problem, which shows the same symptoms others have reported, but none of the replies seem to fit my case.
I spent last night trying to set this up, without success.
I can't get any files imported into the Movie, or Video Libraries - I get the "There are no files...." error.
    (1) The Music lib is fine, so it's not the connection to my NAS, confirmed by point 3 below.
    (2) The usual power on/off; resetting to factory defaults and start over; run the setup wizard for the DMA22000 again, and again; setup WMC afresh; reinstall the extender interface from either or both the PC or DMA200; and checking for updates, doesn't help.
(BTW I've set up WMC on several PCs, all of which work and I can get a WD box to work - okay that's not WMC but it suggests I'm not completely hopeless at this sort of thing).
    (3) Finally I can discover and play files via the "share" item in the Video library on the DMA2200, so it's not a missing codec or divx/xvid issue. But, that gives me a list of 1500 files all called VTS..., so is no help.
How do I get the Movie lib to work as it's supposed to?
The PC is fully patched, 64 bit, Win7 pro, if that matters.
Many thanks in the hope of a fix (that doesn't involve recoding all 1500  files, or buying 3rd party software, please!)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hai,
    I've setup 2 DMA2200 with Win7, works like charme.
    DVB-T, Movies, music etc.
To play movies i use MyMovies. A movie database plugin that kan transcode al kind of movies.
There are also some other tricks to let Win7 play movies on the extender.
But it will always be only the main movie without menu
Check out thegreenbutton.com or the australianmcecomunity.
Lots of info, tools en tricks

  • TV with Media Centre

First of all i cant believe you cant talk to anyone at MSI on the phone what the hell is that all about.
I have a Mega 856 Pro PC with MS Media Centre 2005 and a Mega MSI TV Card.
when u select TV in set up on the media centre it says there isnt one, and the tv program u get with the card, starts to tune in some channels that look rubbish but u cant select anything. Can anyone help at all before i go mad.

MCE 2005 is very picky.. I just installed it on my Mega 180 2 days ago. It wouldn't work with the MSI 8606 tuner.. so I went with the AVerMedia M150 card. Its cheap (about $55 on Newegg.com).  Then, the tricky part is finding a MPEG2 decoder that will work with the Windows XP MCE 2005 operating system. I went thru almost all my programs I had and finally Cyberlink's PowerDVD 6 v1102 worked flawlessly. I have the Microsoft MCE remote ($29.99) and everything working perfect. It sure beats the original Mega remote and Media Center Deluxe III.. I love it so far.
So what you need to do is just get a compadible TV Tuner. Stick by exactly what it says on the Microsoft website, or else u will run into conflicts. Also stick with what it says on their site about video cards and DVD Decoder codecs. Those happened to be the main issues for nearly everyone I talked to.

  • SB Audigy 2 + Media Centre Edition 2

    Hi
I recently purchased a SB Audigy 2 Card for my Media Centre 2005 machine.
I installed the drivers that came on the CD but and all works fine (In theory). All 5. Channels work but now my games crash so I have tried updating the drivers and software with the Windows XP one but it says they are incompatible with my Windows although it is the Xp drivers I initially installed. All of the games including GTA SA worked fine on my onboard Realtek AC97 drivers.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

I recommend you to use one of these DVD players: PowerDVD (http://www.gocyberlink.com/) or WinDVD (http://www.intervideo.com/). There are a lot of glitches, bugs and problems with WMP DVD playback so it's not advised to use it for watching DVDs.
If you choose to use one of the specified DVD players you'll have to select Use SPDIF in Audio options of the player. Also, make sure you've got the latest drivers for the sound card.
    Good luck.

    windows media centre edition
    p4 3.2 terminator 2 rig

I would like to hook up this rig as the sole media role ie movies music
    (dont play game on it)
i am using the analogue connection with it at the moment as i cant find anyware that sells the digital phono to optical or coax adapter/converter ,so i can free up the analogue inputs on the speakers for the rest of my kit ie my sky box.
Any pointers as to the best way to proceed with this would be apreciated.

Sadly I do not have a TV Tuner Card. I run Windows Vista Home Premium (x64). It is also a custom computer I built. But based on the replies it's suggesting I need one? That a simple USB connection between the two will not be sufficient?
I dont think that your cable box can stream contents thru its USB ports, that wont work. Also check your video card s-video plug, most likely it's video out only (for TV monitor). You need some kind of input device for your pc to be able to connect it to your cable box, either a TV tuner card, a capture card (usb or pci card) etc.

This laptop s a HP G71-340US model... Hi,
Try the following to force Windows Media Player to re-build the Library Database.
A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.
    http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=107872&a=7122339&tag=601108&loc=10
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.
Make sure Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre are closed.
Launch Free Commander, double click Users, double click 'your user name', double click Local Settings, double click Application Data, double click Microsoft and double click Media Player.  Delete all the files that have the extension .wmdb - do not delete any folders.
Close Free Commander and open Windows Media Player - it will now begin to re-build the library database which may take a while, but when it has finished see if the movie files play Ok now.
