When I download a song, the following error message appears
"The file or device is protected by Windows Media DRM and requires an upgrade to a Windows Media component to be downloaded or installed
Click OK to start this process with Adminsitrative priviliges"
I click OK, accept the UAC popup, and the following message appears
"The file or device is protected by Windows Media DRM and requires an upgrade to a Windows Media component to be downloaded or installed
Failed to authorise your PC - please ensure you are connected to the internet (0cC00D2736)"
I'm hopefully connected to the internet as I'm browsing these forums. I only got the phone today and was looking forward to using it as my music player, but so far these problems aren't making it easy!

Hey guys, the problem is solved
I needed to manually change the value explained http://myitkb.net/3107/group-policy-prevent-windows-media-drm-internet-access.html here to 0, and then this should allow you tp update. I updated in WMP but Nokia music may be possible. Then when you click to play a song a nokia screen will pop up asking you to confirm username/password, and then you'll have your license.
Not the easiest problem to solve, but certainly not the hardest.
I managed to fix this problem with the help of the guys at #advice on irc.quakenet.org

I am running the latest version 10.0.5 through a Macbook Pro that has just been upgraded to 16GB Ram and a 960GB SSD which has made it as fast as ****. I upgraded because I was experiencing problems before and it was suggested that I didn't have enough Ram?
I am using a Focusrite scarlett 2i4 and an Alesis Q61 midi controller. Weirdly, just trying to put a bass line down on a track using the Alesis, the bass sound goes out of tune with the track during recording only. This is very frustrating! I surely can't be the only one experiencing this?

Time lost could be a problem, but.....
Sadly, I don't think that there are any Apple docs relating to networked storgae issues with Logic. Other than a 'school' or 'business' setup, NAS/OD/AD setups are not usual circumstances for audio.
If the issue is one of data backup & security, it may be enough to automatically backup the students local work folders to the NAS.
If the issue is one of the Users being able to work from any Mac and pick up their files from the server, you are not likely to resolve this problem, without copying the files to the Local Mac.

I've been updating my CC applications. But PP CC 2014 and media Encoder say: "UPDATE FAILED". Naturally I cannot get through to Abobe. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Sorry, chat and phone support are closed on weekends for the video queue. We only have general support open on weekends. It's been this way for years. Sorry if that caused some inconvenience.
I hope you have solved your issue. If on Mac, you can update NVIDIA drivers in the NVIDIA control panel in System Preferences. AMD GPUs are merely updated when you update OS X.

PC Synch and Windows Media player keep failing

The WMP/PC Synch driver keeps failing, I have to keep de-installing in Device Manager/Portable devices/Nokia 5310 Express Music (says ""the device is not working properly") and then reboot, even then it only works about 1 in 6 times and even when it does finally work it falls over normally during music upload (fails on USB and failing on Blue tooth).
I swapped the phone (courtesy of T-Mobile) but the 2nd one still fails, I tested on my Vista Notebook (still fails)
I have spent hours looking for a fix for this on line(but no joy).
I have WMP 11 and Windows Vista, I have a 5310, sync works fine (lie a dream) in Outlook, file transfer, and messages etc, but in Windows Media player it's a nightmare, I have reinstalled the driver 5 or 6 times (latest version from the Nokia web site) the PC is pretty new and clean, I have a creative MP3 player which work fine.
I get some very strange old 16bit Nokia error messages when it does fail (Vista jumps into compatibility mode)
I've come to the conclusion that this can only be caused by Nokia's PC Synch software, VERY FRUSTRATING ! Even though I love the phone,

Email Setup - Windows LiveMail Error - Update Failed

Hello all, I'll try to be as specific as possible, sorry, until we figure out this first predicament first, screenshots will have to wait.
I've gone around on the email setup merry-go-round for more than a few hours now and I can't seem to figure out what could possibly be impeding such a simple setup procedure. Am I overlooking something ridiculously obvious here?
Snagged a B-Berry Curve 9300 through Koodoo Mobile here in Canada a few days ago.
The package includes 2Gb of Data access, a text and calling package with visual voicemail.
Everything appears to be working normally, by that I mean, I go into Setup > Email Accounts (there is a short pause as the software checks for updates), then I arrive at the email setup window where you can choose from various email clients (i.e. Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Windows Live...)
Clicking on Windows Live, this brings up a submenu (@hotmail.com, @msn.com, @live.com)
I scroll down and select @hotmail.com and enter my full email address and password - hit continue and I get the error message "Update Failed".
Do I need to have BES enabled/installed or do I need to dowload a certain service book?
Do I need to adjust the mobile settings in Windows Live?
Do I throw my B-Berry Curve under a bus and hope for the best??
Kidding on that last remark, but what gives? All assistance appreciated and many thanks in advance to all contributors.

I wasn't able find any answers on this forum as to the error message I was getting while trying to set up my WindowsLive email client.
A quick call to Koodo Mobile quickly resolved the issue. The technician however would not elaborate on the cause of the problem. I do know that Service Books were re-sent to my device, also we had to verify the device was registered on the network by way of accessing the Host Routing Table (Options>Search Bar>type in host then scroll down to select the Host Routing Table - use the Menu Key to register) then I powered down the BB Curve 9300, removed the battery for 30 seconds, then reinstalled the battery allowing the device to start up.
Everything works perfectly now.

Hope this helps anyone having similar issues with their BB Curve 9300.

Media encoder update fail

I have been triying do the update for weeks and I keep getting "Update Failed", no error codes. I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, still the same. Now I have upgraded to Maverick, no change. All of my other CC programs are updating fine.

I am using S230u (i7 / 8GB / 500GB+24GB) with Windows 8 Pro and some time ago I bought Media Center pack (the last part may be important). When I first set my laptop up I chose Polish language, as this is my native language.

I do not suppose the problem is related to Lenovo in any way, but maybe someone else had the same issue.
I am not sure what those mean and searching for 0x80070490 does not show useful results. I have tried the recommendation from:

But after running both DISM commands multiple times, it does not solve the issue. Also, I am wondering if the "Polish ESD Bundle Parent" is just the first part that was checked or if this may be specific to Polish language?
I tried changing the default language for my user and for login screen + new users to English, but that did not help.

Just an update, in case someone else comes across this issue.
I decided to reset my laptop to factory settings (using "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" from settings).
After that, I performed all the updates of both Lenovo and Windows updates. Then I was able to update to Windows 8.1.
I did not find a way to resolve it without full reinstallation.

Media Encoder update fails

I've got web premium cs4 running on 10.5.6 and have now had 3 failed attempts at updating the Media Encoder to version 4.0.2. I just get an Installation Incomplete dialog.
My current version is 4.0.1.078.
Any ideas please?

Since my last post, Adobe suggested I removed the entire Suite and reinstall. I did, but the problem persisted. They then suggested I use the CS3 Cleanscript and try again. I pointed out that my Suite is CS4 and asked if they meant the CS4 script but I'm still waiting on a reply...
To me it would make sense to use the CS4 script, but want to check so I dodn't have to go through reinstalling After Effects and Bridge CS3 if I don't need to. (Bridge CS4 doesn't work with the AE Browse Presets command so I have both versions on my system.)

Windows 10 Preview update fails 0x8046017

Actually the one that failed to get installed was a new build that was NOT supposed to be for general public.
What happened was that MS has been sending new builds to MSFT ( MS employees ) for testing. Somehow mistake was made and the builds were "exposed" to Windows Update. But those "exposed" builds will not get installed and therefore you
see the error message and the error code.
Here is the direct copy regarding this matter.......

Attempts to download the new build result in Error 0x80246017.

There is nothing to be concerned of. The Windows Updates that are meant for us will get installed automatically, and those "exposed" new builds will get rejected and you will see that error code until MS sort it out.

Windows 81. Update Fails with 0xC1900101 0x30017

Updating a laptop form 8 to 8.1 and get the following error at the end of the update. 0xC1900101-0x30017. The system them reverts back to 8.
Any help would be appreciated.

This error might be to the BIOS .
BIOS upgrade may fix the issue.

Windows Media is automatically updating Ipod! WHY?

I have had my Ipod for a while and it's worked fine. I added some new songs to ITunes today, along with the album info and artwork. When I plugged the Ipod in, I got a screen popup that said Windows Media was updating my portable device. I have no idea how this started, but the same thing happens when I plug my digital camera in and Windows Media puts songs on my memory stick on my camera.
How can I turn this function off. Also, the new songs are showing all their info and artwork on ITunes, but not on my Ipod. I've checked Ipod Options and "show artwork" is checked. I think it has something to do with Windows Media Interfering. PLEASE HELP!

     Adobe Flash Player 64-bit Plugin 11.0.1.152
with error codes 6BA and 80070661.
Hangs in my update center since November 2011.

However, it would be interesting to know what gone wrong and how could I prevent this.
Also, I don't know how Flash updates work, but it would certainly be good, if I could update from my Windows Update server.
Consider my company: most users (about 250) have weekly internet-traffic limit of about 50 MB (no problems with bandwidth, only to force people not to visit entertainment sites).
Hence, most users will ignore Flash Player updates, just to save few precious MBs.
Update:
Errors have returned few hours later after reinstall [1].
I've noticed that update process passes "download" and "creating recovery point" phases,
and error occurs on about 30% of installation of 32-bit plugin update.
If you'll point me at some system log, I'll be happy to provide more info.

Maybe the problem is in our Windows Update server ?
[1] I've unistalled both "Flash Player 11 Plugin" and "Flash Player 11 ActiveX",
     maybe I should have also uninstalled AIR ?
     Edit2 I've uninstalled both and then rebooted once. Maybe I should have rebooted
     after each uninstall (i.e. 2 reboots in total) ?

Easiest way to access windows media files with DRM?

hi,
i've got a whole bunch of music and vid files from an old PC that I can't access on my MBP because they use windows media DRM that is not available for OSX. they won't play with flip 4 mac either.
my question is: what's the easiest and least invasive way to get access to these files on the MBP? I realise I could use bootcamp and install XP, or do the same with parallels.. but, I don't want to sacrifice the huge amount of drive space needed to get XP working (nor do I really want to have to buy a copy of XP) with either bootcamp or parallels, because I'd really never ever use windows.. only ever to access these files.
I've heard there is another virtualisation option out there that doesn't even require a full copy of windows, but I don't know what it is or if this was just mistaken hearsay. if anyone has any ideas about if something like this exists, I'd like to hear about it..

You might be thinking of Crossover. Not sure if Windows Media Player works under it, but their website has info on requested and working apps.

Windows Media Player 12 under Win 7 Pro 64 nolonger able to play DVD

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."
It seems that I have recently joined the chorus of MS users who have a Media Player DRM issue, where DVD's that would work perfectly well in WMP12 and MCE are nolonger being recognised. The error message above is displayed now, every time a commercial DVD
movie is inserted into the DVD drive where WIN 7 Pro 64 autoplay is used to open WMP12, The instruction to update video drivers is also not the solution.
Considering that I have until recently, been able to play DVD with my current NVIDIA driver 314.22Whql (now updated to 332.21Whql) and my DVD drive remains exactly as before, the Codec's installed with Win7 Pro 64 WMP 12 are unchanged and were working
fine. I do not know now what has caused the removal of DRM or the suggestion that my MPEG2 codecs can nolonger allow access to commercial DVD content.
I have tried all the suggestions raised about this issue from other MS users and MPV's in the forum, I have renamed the DRM folder and reset Windows Media DRM as directed. I have checked for a suitable MPEG2 codec/decoder on my system of which I have
several choices, including the one installed with Win 7 Pro 64 / WMP 12.
I have checked to see if I have a region issue with my DVD drive, and can confirm that the DVD drive will play DVD content when Playing DVD with "NERO 9 Showtime", this proves to me that the codec/DVD decoder is working in
my system, I then try Win 7s MCE (Media Center) and WMP12, the result is a black unresponsive screen in MCE, and the error message noted above in WMP with a black screen in the player.
I would like to know if MS are working on a rectification for the issue, as none of the proposed solutions deliver any functionality back to MS default DVD players. Is there an update in the works to provide a definitive solution for WMP12 and MCE DVD functionality.
Could you provide any new ideas, other than those already proposed to regain DVD function under MS default DVD programs.

Yes I have already tried - Reset DRM using the method described in a post by another MS MPV here in the forum.
This is the method I used :
1. First open My Computer go to Tools>FolderOptions>View> uncheck >Hide Protected Operating System Files >
so that I can see the DRM folder and its contents.
2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM >Delete the contents of the DRM folder, these hidden files and the Cache folder with its contents. (Cache,
blackbox.bin, drmstore.hds, IndivBox.key,
IndivBox_64.key, v2ksndv.bla, v3ks.bla,
v3ks.sec) DRM folder empty ready for DRM Reset via web link.
3. Go to start menu Find InternetExplorer > right Click icon select > Run as Administrator > Blank Web page opens > I then paste the link provided (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp)
into the Url space > click Enter > a web page for Windows Media Technologies (Security Component Upgrade) opens.
4. I then click on the 'Upgrade Button' and wait for it to search for upgrade components (Progress Status: Upgrading security components.... ), A download dialog then appears asking me to proceed. I then click 'Upgrade' and wait for it to
finish downloading & installation
(Progress Bar). . The install then completes saying the upgrade was successful I then click 'Done' close Browser and restart Computer.
5. I then recheck inside the DRM folder that I had erased - the new downloaded files and Cache Folder with contents are all back inside the folder, as expected.
6. Upon restart I place a DVD that I know was working before into the DVD drive and wait, the DVD autostarts WMP12 with the onscreen DVD Disk navigation menu appearing. I then click 'Play' with in the menu option, to begin the
Movie.
7. The resulting error reappears when clicking Play
"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder,
and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."
I will try once more to Reset the DRM using the Tool you have linked to, and follow your instruction exactly. Will see how it goes! ............stay tuned
It would be much appreciated If you could research which MS update has broken DRM, the recent updates which I can think of right now would be :
nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275
now replaced by Nvidia v332.21Whql Drivers.
Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
Possibly,
Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 64bit ( which I have had to remove, rolling back to IE10 to allow use in another Forum without errors and glitches). something about IE11 Browser is not right, maybe a security component from IE11
has interfered with DRM (Just guessing though)
But I think it is more than likely a security update that was downloaded and installed at the same time as these other major Microsoft Update offerings.

It is recommended that a backup of all data be made prior to starting the Windows 8.1 update.
Official Lenovo Windows 8 and 8.1 Support resources - list of officially supported systems, information on license keys, activation, upgrade / downgrade rights and more.
Update Drivers before upgrading to Windows 8.1. At this time Lenovo recommends that customers who are planning to install the Windows 8.1 update, first update to the latest version of device drivers and BIOS on the Lenovo support site and apply Windows updates. Lenovo customers who are using ThinkPad, ThinkStation, ThinkCentre systems may elect to use the System Update to accomplish the Lenovo driver updates before updating to Windows 8.1. System update 5.03 should be used. If system update is downlevel, it should first update itself to version 5.03. Windows 8.1 drivers are being packaged and made available for automated install through System Update; therefore initially a limited number of 8.1 updates may be reported through System update. Updated drivers can still be installed manually by downloading from the support site. Lenovo is currently working on the release and availability of Windows 8.1 drivers through system update.
Not finding 8.1 drivers for officially supported models on the Lenovo support site?  The driver list for some systems ( Helix for example) currently reflect a mix of drivers for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. The Windows 8 drivers should work and have been tested, and compatibility designations are being revised to clearly reflect compatibility with Windows 8.1. This updating of descriptions is expected to complete in early November
SOLVED -SecureBoot advisory message appears in lower right corner of the screen after updating to Windows 8.1. This appears to occur if SecureBoot was not enabled when the update was installed. This community article may help resolve the issue. Microsoft has released an official solution here
Windows 8.1 update is not listed in the Microsoft Store. There are certain prerequisites that must be installed before the Windows 8.1 update will be installed. Be sure to run Windows update and install all updates. Reboot according to instructions, then re-launch the Windows Store and select Microsoft Windows 8.1 update. Windows 8.1 update fails with an error code. Try to refresh and ensure all Windows updates have been applied. If a backup of all data has already been made, customers may elect to reset back to factory, perform all Windows updates, update Lenovo drivers, and then attempt the Windows 8.1 update again. SOLVED - Black Screen with flashing pointer after install on some hybrid graphics equipped systems , S440/540, T430/530   W530 could potentially be affected. This issue has been addressed and Windows 8.1 updates on these models conducted after 10/29/13 should proceed normally. A Lenovo support tip for S series has been released to assist any previously affected customers. Another tip for T430/530 and W530 series is available, too.

I have a z580 Ideapad that came with Windows 8.0. Some materials on the Lenovo site indicate that this laptop should not be updated to Windows 8.1 due to provides with the video driver, other materials indicate that it is OK.
