Windows Media is automatically updating Ipod! WHY?

I have had my Ipod for a while and it's worked fine. I added some new songs to ITunes today, along with the album info and artwork. When I plugged the Ipod in, I got a screen popup that said Windows Media was updating my portable device. I have no idea how this started, but the same thing happens when I plug my digital camera in and Windows Media puts songs on my memory stick on my camera.
How can I turn this function off. Also, the new songs are showing all their info and artwork on ITunes, but not on my Ipod. I've checked Ipod Options and "show artwork" is checked. I think it has something to do with Windows Media Interfering. PLEASE HELP!

I HATE using iTunes (it's a pain in the bleeping arse) so, despite what someone from Apple told me, I tried to sync a song from Windows Media Player onto my ipod. The sync appears to be successful, and yet when I ejected my ipod to check to see if the song was on there, it was not. Why? And how do I get it on there? I want to avoid using iTunes at all costs.

Try MediaMonkey or Winamp. Unlike Windows Media Player which will just blindly throw the files onto the iPod's hard drive these two at least (there may be others) know that they have to update the device's database if you are going to be able to access the content that has been added.

Because iPods will only work with iTunes. Your computer only sees an iPod Touch as a digital camera. What are you trying to do with your iPod?

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.

You should import the music (that is listed in Windows Media Player) into your iTunes Library - on your computer - to add it to your existing iTunes Library. I take it you have moved (or copied) your music from the old computer to the new computer, haven't you?
Then Sync your iPod to that Library.
iPods will not respond to Windows Media Player, they're designed to connect to iTunes.

How to prevent iTunes from automatically updating iPod?

On the Mac, you can hold down Command+Option to prevent iTunes from automatically updating the iPod when it's plugged in.

Do either of the following:
Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window.If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
By default, adding items to your iTunes library places a pointer to each file in the iTunes folder; the original file remains in the current location. For information about copying files to the iTunes folder instead of creating pointers to them, see Change where your iTunes files are stored. If the file is an unprotected WMA file and you have Windows Media Player Series 9 or later installed, iTunes makes a copy of the file and adds it to your iTunes library. The original WMA file remains unchanged. You can’t add protected WMA files or protected WMV files to iTunes.

First, I suggest to reset the router, meanwhile disable the network card and enable it again, because it is obviously network issue.
Then, as you post this happened after windows update, try to find the update that was already installed on your computer

Working on Windows 7, ran automatic updates recently, now Photoshop CS5 not working

Hi there. I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7. I installed PS CS5 and have been using it with no problems until I ran automatic updates the day before yesterday, now my PS CS5 ACTS like it's open but really isn't. I can't view the screen, see any files, open anything from Bridge, etc. But when I go to shut down the computer, it tells me PS is running. I can shut it down in Task Manager but otherwise, I can't see that it's open. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled and the problem still happens. Any ideas? Did some service pack wipe out my ability to view PS? Bridge opens just fine, as does Lightroom. Any ideas? I'm a professional photographer and this totally has affected my workflow!! Please help. By the way, I can open PS CS3.

Don't ever allow windows to run updates in the auto mode. Change it to where you can run the updater but choose what you want to update. Video card drivers are the worst offender in auto-update. You never know what hits you until the update is done.
You can also do a system restore too. Go back to a date before the updates. Then see if that works. Then go into windows update and change it from auto to manual so you can choose the updates. Stay away from the video card update.
You can go to www.amd.com and look for your crad drivers. Some laptops allow AMD to publish updated driver and some don't. Since you did put the name of the laptop in your post it is best for you to go there and look. The drivers will be mobility drivers. Download the 10.8 mobility driver package.
If you find the drivers download them to your desk top. A download icon will be made. Click on that Icon to download the software. This new icon is the actual software.
Right click on that icon, choose properties, general tab. There should be something about unlocking the file below. Click to unlock then hit apply. Then choose compatibility tab, put a check mark in run as Admin, hit apply, then ok to close. Some people don't do this step but I do to ensure the proper security levels are met (but not needed to do so your choice).
Click on the icon again to install software. when you come to a screen with the option to install/uninstall the software, choose uninstall. Let it run its course. The screen will flicker and you will see the screen go away and come back bigger (no drivers). When done reboot computer.
Click on that icon again but now you want to choose install software. Let it run its course. The screen will flicker and screen will go away and come back.
Reboot computer.
Hope the drivers work. If they don't go back to system restore and choose a point where you had the good drivers and CS5 worked.

Since my windows 8 has automatically updated, I am unable to access itunes store. It comes up blank, and sometimes my downloads say 'the network connection was reset'. Any ideas?

I have checked servers and ports, done the winsock bit (only bonjour shows), have checked my antivirus, everything. But still I can't sort it and it's frustrating me, as it picks and chooses when it downloads apps and songs I have recently purchased too. Nothing has changed except for the windows 8 automatic updates, and it was working fine beforehand.

DRM for Windows Media Player on the ipod

My ipod is worthless, if it can't play files with DRM for Windows Media Player. My library, that offers this files for download says, it would cost 50.000 dollars to provide also ipod-compatible files. Because they can't spend this money, I will need a new mp3-player!

The specs for the iPod (box, website) are pretty clear about what formats it supports. Unfortunately, protected WMA files are not supported.
If the rights you have for those files includes burning them to an audio CD, you might want to do that.

Windows Media Player found my iPod ? ? ? ?

I bought a iPod last night. It's the 30GB 5G model. I love this thing. It's the first one I have ever had. I found podcasts using iTunes . . . anyways, on to my question.
I plugged it in this evening while I was ripping CD's with iTunes. I also had Windows Media Player up and paused because I was watching a TV show (mpg file) that I had recorded. WMP saw the iPod and started writing to it somehow. Do I need to somehow clear out the iPod and re-sync from scratch?

It appeared to be writing to it. It found it as a generic media player/drive even though I did not enable "drive use" on the iPod. So if wrote stuff, and can't play it, then there is stuff wasting space . . . So maybe it would be best to wipe it and start over.
I think there is a option to "factory reset" it with the software. If I remember right, it clears the unit of music etc. Then I could resync right?

Automatically update iPod after podcasts download?

I'd like iTunes to automatically update my iPod after all my podcasts have downloaded. Is this possible, or do I always have to manually update the iPod after downloading podcasts?
Ideally, I'd like to be able to plug in the iPod in the morning, walk away to brush my teeth and shower, then come back and grab the iPod with all my podcasts ready to go.

I agree, it drives me nuts and is an iTunes design flaw IMHO. If there are any podcasts being downloaded the iTunes should hold off doing the iPod syncing until all the podcasts have finished downloading. This way the problem would not occur.
