Windows Media on a Duo Core Intel Mac

I can not play any windows video's on my MAC and the Flip2Mac does not work on my unit. What program do I use?

Hi, box15.
You're most welcome. Glad to help.
You wrote: "Popwire WMV-9 Component seems to work pretty good. Is there another way I can play the video in the web browser rather than downloading the video."It may depend on if the video file itself is setup for delivery via download or streaming. Take a look at the Popwire manual (pages 8-10) or submit a question to the developer via their support link. As I stated earlier, I've not used Popwire, just investigated it.
In my earlier post, I referred you to my post here which contains a link to this archived post on Google addressing how to use Flip4Mac with Safari. Whether that will let you view the content in the browser, I can't say, but you may want to give that a try as well.

  • Mighty Mouse problem with duo core intel mac mini & 26" LCD/TV display

I have an Olevia 26" LCD/TV display connected to my Intel Duo core mac mini and I have been using a Mighty Mouse with it from the start but all of a sudden the mouse pointer will not come out of the upper right corner. It moves out a little and then pops back into the corner.
I connected the Mighty Mouse to my g4 PowerBook and it tracks and scrolls fine. I've also cleaned it and tried it on a solid, dark service while connected to the mac mini and those things don't help either.
Any suggestions anyone. I've been using the Mighty Mouse for months and I love especially the ability to scroll horizonitally as I use Final Cut Pro and that features is GREAT in the timeline window.
I can't seem to find anything here in the discussions specifcally with this issue so any guidance would be appreciated!

    hi there--
if all is fine on the install disk, run disk repair http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672. if not, i would reset the open firmware. do this by holding apple-option-o-f on keyboard while you start up and you get a screen that says "welcome to open firmware". type in following commands, without quotations-- "reset-nvram" (hit return) and "reset-all" (hit return). second command restarts the computer. good luck.[:)]

  • USB Memory Stick won't work on my Dual Core Intel Mac...

Just bought a 4gb memory stick a few days ago - it doesn't seem to like my Dual Core Intel Tower at all. I am plugging it into the USB slot at the front and trying to copy a load of files onto it.
It's got around 1gb on it now and I can't seem to copy another single file onto it. I was copying folders of files, but just trying to copy a single file the finder seems to hang and I can't cancel the copy process - I have to hold the power on button to regain control of my Mac - is this normal??
The stick works perfectly on a PC...
Disk Utility reports no problems, and reformats OK.

Be sure that the memory device is not NTFS formatted. You need to use FAT32 else MacOS Extended for it to work.

  • How to play .wma and other Windows Media Player-format files/videos on Mac?

    Hi again,
I will be asking stupid questions as I'm a newbie to Mac, so please bear with me. There are some video format that QuickTime player doesn't play e.g. .wma files. I tried a couple of times to download Windows Media Player for Mac but it doesn't install on my Mac! Do I require a software similar to Zipfile or does Mac has it all build in?
PS - What is the coequal of "delete" button here in Mac (keyboard)?

Download and install Flip4Mac - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - to play Windows Media files via Quicktime. Also get Perian to provide additional codecs for other video formats.
The Delete key is on the keyboard next to the "=" key.

  • Upgrade Processor form Duo Core on Mac Mini

I want to change from Snow Leopard to Lion on my (aged) Mac Mini. The processor is an Intel Core Duo. Can I upgrade this to a higher functioning processor to allow me to install Lion? My objective is to insall iCloud on the mini.

if you search the web, you'll find upgrade information for the pre-2009 mini's that have socketed CPU's. Google "mac mini core duo cpu upgrade" .

  • Loss of internet connection from windows side of imac duo core

I have cable modem as internet hookup. When I am in Mac I have no problems, but every time I either change to the Windows side, or the computer is turned off or goes off, when Windows comes up, I can't access the internet.
I have gone into control panel and it states that the cable modem is unplugged or not connected. I then have to literally unplug the cable from the computer, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in.
This has been going on several months and started after I had a cable issue at the house and the cable guys came out and fixed it. they changed some things on my computer.
I think something on the MAC side was actually changed and that is impacting the windows side.
Prior to that I could access the internet from either side w/no problem.
Now, even if I unplug the cable and then plug it in, the computer is not recognizing that the cable is plugged in. As you can see, I am still having NO problem w/the MAC side.
Any ideas what command or default setting might have been changed to impact the Windows side in this fashion. thanks

what is the firmware version on the router?? try reducing MTU to 1452...let me know if you have any issues will get back to you.
    thanks

  • Firefox/Windows: some forums, strange behaviour on Intel/Mac

    At the site: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums...
No-one's avatars show up in Firefox for Windows. But they do in IE. I have my personal settings for avatars set to enable.
Safari and Firefox in the Mac environment show avatars at this site okay.
I'll probably have to ask the question at Mozilla.

First thing to try: go to System Preferences>Universal Access and turn Voiceover off.

  • Hotmail/intel duo core

Has anyone successfully downloaded the plugin for hotmail in mail on the new intel duo core and managed to get it to work?
v grateful for any advice on how to do this. i have installed the plugin but it doesn't seem to be recognised in the options for account set up.
    thanks
iMAC intel duo core 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't believe the httpmail plugin is Universal yet which means it runs/works for the Mail.app on a PowerPC Mac at the present time only.
An Intel Mac includes Rosetta which is a translation process that runs a PowerPC binary on an Intel-based Macintosh computer—it allows applications to run as nonnative binaries.
For the Intel based Mail.app (which should be Universal), try selecting run as a PowerPC binary (which requires Rosetta) using Get Info for the Mail.app application via the Finder.
This should allow the httpmail plugin to work.

  • Could we get a new category? Plug-ins - Safari- Windows media - Flash

I posted this on the iMacs (early 2006) forum but it seems better placed here.
With the new Intel iMacs, it doesn't make sense to post over on the other threads (eg. Safari) when the issues are undoubtedly related to the new iMacs.
It would be great for us to keep each other up-to-date when plug-ins and a solution to Windows Media become available.

  • Best app for QT on Intel Mac Mini kiosk?

    Hi all:
I've sent variations of this message off to various folks and fora pertaining to Flash, Director, Livestage, etc., so I thought I'd ask here as well.
I'm working on a very high profile exhibit here in NYC, which is opening to the public on Sept. 11th (draw your own conclusions). It involves a number of standard definition (not HD) video-based kiosks.
These are running on bottom of the line off-the-shelf single-core Intel Mac Minis w/ 512MB RAM. No, we cannot change the platform. We have to make it work with what we have.
We built our prototype in Director. Unfortunately, using QT in Director projects on Intel-based Macs is a non-starter, because Director executables are not Universal Binary yet.
The app is very simple -- a black background that just waits to trigger the video on a mouse click and returns to the black background when the movie is done playing.
The key thing is we need to display the highest possible image quality. We had hoped to use H.264. We've also tried 3IVX and Motion JPEG B, all of which play beautifully in the QT Player but stutter noticeably once in Director. This turns out to be a known problem, and a Universal Binary version of Director isn't due until next year.
I've also tried making a QuickTime Media Link (QTL) file that allows us to "quit when done" so that we can use BuddyAPI to open the program with the QT Player and then drop back to the Director app when done.
That works great, except for the fact that as of OSX 10.3, you can't hide the menu of an app when switching to another app, which looks terrible. Arrgh.
Flash's Player v9 (which is Universal Binary) only runs in a Browser, not as a standalone. So unless there's a browser that will run fullscreen with no chrome, that's out for the foreseeable future as well.
So now I'm thinking about building the whole thing as a self-contained QT movie in Livestage.
Livestage only runs in Rosetta, so I don't know if the QT file I build run natively in the QT player, so that I can use h.264 or 3IVX or whatever without it stuttering. I'd be perfectly happy w/ 3IVX, by the way...
Any help or direction appreciated. We have to have this up and running on site by next Monday, the 14th.
    best,
    FBC

Right -- well, I'm not concerned with editing the video (I use FCP, too).
I completely understand the role of bitrate in making videos look good, and for the record, I've gotten decent looking videos from Motion JPEG B at the Medium (default) quality settings...
But that's not my question here. The problem is playing back any QT codec as an asset in a larger application (eg, Flash, Director, Livestage) running specifically on the Intel Mac Minis. At the root of the problem is lack of universal binary projectors.
At the moment, the best option I have so far is using SAFT to put Safari into Kiosk mode (no title bar, etc.) and using that to play back a Flash SWF file (which give me the needed interactivity) as the default home page.
We're also going to try to roll our own Cocoa app as a wrapper for a 3ivx file. That will almost certainly look better than even a very high bandwidth FLV/SWF.
    Any other ideas appreciated...

  • Actiontech router and Windows Media Center on Win8

While waiting for Verizon to solve their network problems and actually get light to the ONT, they left the actiontech router in my house, so I took sometime to get to know it.
It's definitelly something I don't want or need in my network. It's not a bad router if you didn't have a business class product from before (actually it is pretty much the best you can get short of going to hardware firewall routers in the class of Zyxel, Watchguard and some high end, business class, Dells, Ciscos and Netgears).
Well... needless to say, I am running such a router (a Watchguard XTM-26W) and have security subscriptions with them to protect my network. In addition, it offers functionality and discrete access controls otherwise impossible with consumer grade products.
Now, back to the basic subject: I noticed something ominous and wonder if anyone else has noticed it too. I run my TV service through a machine that uses a Ceton 4-HD PCI-E tuner card with a multistream cablecard. It is installed on top of Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit and I use Windows Media Center as my core TV interface (guide and all). The machine is set to go to sleep by itself if no activity (and TV it's the only thing designed and intended to do and the only thong it does) is detected on the tuner for 5 minutes. This works flawlesly  and always did while on Comcast service.
Now, the problem: you put the Actiontech router in the network (regardless of whether it's before or after the firewall gateway) and the machine fails to go to sleep. The router introduces some dort of chatter in the networkk that keeps the HDD active and the computer alive in perpetuity. Did anyone notice anything similar? What is your experience with this?
Obviously, I have no intent to keep the Actiontech router in the network under such conditions. For what I know, it is illegal in fact to put out products that send unsolicited traffic through one's network. Not to mention that it is a security risk. Might Verizon re-consider their insistence on deciding what routers to support and what don't or simply drop all support for all the routers since none is ever really needed? They only have the job to deliver a public IP to my equipment and I should be left alone otherwise (according to FCC). Which they otherwise fail to do by putting a piece of equipment that is theirs in the way and mandating that I use it, since 192.168.x.x is NOT a public IP, according to Internet Council.

    LeoZ wrote:
Actiontec responded to my inquiry. See below.
It turns out it's another Verizon problem...
"Honestly no idea what would cause the chatter on the network to prevent sleep\stand-by to function.
Verizon would have to review the issue and see what in the code programming would cause this."
Stop the chatter. Put your Media Center hardware behind another firewall. Like I said mine is Linux IP-COP, which constanty drops these trash packets from the single STB I have on the MOCA COAX.
All from the Verizon network router. Almost like a broadcast storm!
This is a Motorola STB, My Cisco had two real IP addresses asigned by DHCP, and they did not do this. I turned in all my STB hardware and ordered a single STB, and was sent Motorola when I had been using Cisco.
wan-1 in into my Linux box and lan-1 is out of it. Then all my harware which includes Media Center PCs are gigabit switches, not exposed to this. I guess you could use another router and not a Linux PC. This STB is going back soon.
