Windows Media Player 12, Windows 7 does not play AVCHD (.mts) video in embedded mode, but does in normal mode

I've run into a problem with WMP 12 on Windows 7 involved in playback of AVCHD files.  When run in 'normal' mode from Windows Explorer, WMP opens the video file and plays it back beautifully.  However, I'm building an application with
WMP embedded.  When running WMP from within the application (c#), the same AVCHD plays audio but no video.
I've seen this type of problem before with respect to audio playback of mp4 files in WMP from embedded-mode:  the MP4 license prohibited audio playback when run from embedded mode but played the audio fine when WMP was launched from explorer.
I was able to solve this particular problem by using a 3rd party codec pack.
In this case, I've tried a number of packs K-Lite, etc., but to no avail.  My problem persists.  I suspect perhaps I've encountered a similar licensing-type issue with a SONY CODEC and the state in which WMP is playing back files but I
have not yet been able to track it down.
Any ideas?

Hello,
It seems that you are using the Windows Media Player control in a window form forum,
as far as I know, the Windows Media Player control does not raise an exception when it encounters an error such as an invalid URL. Instead, it signals an event. Please try to set an event to try to catch the expcetion as described in the link below:

  • Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file...

I am running WMP 11.0.5721.5280. I am running XP SP3 with every update that has come out. I have 4 GB RAM and my processor is a Pentium 4, 2.6GHz.
I have a large collection of music file ripped from my CD collection. Almost every time I want to plat a music file I get a message; Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file, For additional assistance, click Web Help. When this
error box is displayed, a red 'X' placed next to the file in WMP.
When I click the "Web Help" button, I am taken to a MS website (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11b1) which tells me that I should go to the sound device website and make certain I have the latest driver. All of the advice which
is given does not apply to me. My sound device works fine! I can play CD, DVD (movies), and MP3 files. Even when I use RealPlayer, the same thing happens, but not as frequently.
Can anyone offer a solution to this problem?

  • How can the Windows Media Player 12 be made to play WVC210 .avi files?

I just built a new computer and it won't play the motion captured videos of the WVC210. It has Windows 7 Home Premium as the operating system. My machines running XP play the WVC210 files GREAT. Is there a codec I can add to the WMP12 so that it will play the .avi files. I have 3 cameras around the property, 2 WVC210 and 1 WVC200. 1 camera has the audio turned off so switching to MP4 (no audio) made that work OK. But the camera in the office I need to have audio and would rather stick to WMP over something like VLC. VLC plays the files fine but I much prefer WMP. I'm hopeing to find out how to have Windows Media Player 12 play the .AVI files from the WVC210 cameras. Any Help??

There appears to be issues with codecs on WMP 12 and Windows 7
AND\OR your WMP is missing the necessary codecs.
Google the Net and you should find different things to try

    Hello All,
since last week my disk drive does not play any original DVD or CD anymore, but copied ones, no matter which format work fine. I am a bit confused that the copied ones still work.
Anybody experienced the same? Will I have to get a new disk drive? Unfortunately the warranty expired last month

  • Adobe Reader does not recognize file name (filename10.5.11.pdf) but does in Adobe Standard 9.  Why?

I post documents to our Intranet site and found out recently that Adobe Reader does not recognize certain file names in PDF files.  For instance,  when trying to open a PDF file with the name
filename10.5.11.pdf  in Adobe Reader, the web browser will not open the PDF and the display is blank.   When I'm using another computer with Adobe Standard 9, I do not have a problem opening the file.
I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar issue and why Reader will not recognize the file name and Standard does.

The version is Adobe Reader 10.1.0    I will request the latest version
and let you know if that fixes the problem
Actually I had changed the name of the file so our associates could access
the file (changed the  .  to a hyphen)  It still made me wonder why Reader
wouldn't open it at that time.
Thanks again for you assistance and I will let you know if this resolves
    the  issue.

    Hi Susan,
    Thanks for providing the information.
Could you also let me know what is the exact version of Adobe Reader on
your system. You can check the same y clicking on Help > About Adobe
    Reader X.
In case its not 10.1.1, please try updating to the latest version and see
    if the problem persists.
Also, does any other PDF with a different filename open in Internet
    Explorer correctly?
    Thanks

  • Windows media player files will not play. I downloaded the plug in but does not show up under plugins. Why won't it load?

Whenever I try to play a wmv file through firefox it will not load. It was not a problem a few weeks ago. Under plugins it is saying I do not have windows media player. So I tried downloading it using the troubleshooting directions from firefox. But it still will not show up under plugins. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Windows Media Player: all the DVDs are played with cilyndrical distortion in pictures

    Hi
I have Windows 7 (but hte issue I got also on XP in a different PC)
When I play DVDs with Window Media Player (not mater if the 9 or the 10 or the 11, the issue still exist), all the movies are player with pictures that are distorted.
I mean: they look compressed in, the center of the screen, and expanded in the sides. Like if the images are wotched through a cylinder.
It happens only with DVDs. If I play an .MP4 or an .WMV, this issue doesn't occur.
Is there any settings to prevent this please?
If I use VLC this doesn't happen. Thus there should be something else that I don't know.
    Please can you help me?

    Hi Tormy ,
Except for running the troubleshoot tool to have a diagnostic ,please take the following steps to have a diagnostic.
1.If you got another DVD player application in the machine , this issue can occur because different DVD players install different software that is used to decode the DVD video so that it can play back. Please try to remove the other
DVD player application to have a check.
2.Considering the other formats will play well ,there is a possibility that the format of these DVD are not supported by the Windows Media Player. It`s recommend to download the codec you need from the website to have a check .
For the codec questions ,here is a link for reference:
    Codecs: frequently asked questions
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/codecs-frequently-asked-questions#codecs-frequently-asked-questions=windows-8
3.Sometimes the antivirus software may cause this issue, please turn off the antivirus software temporarily to have a check.
4.Apart from all the above suggestions, please ensure you have got the latest video card driver or reinstall it from the device manager.
    Best regards

    Hi,
Windows Media Player 12 is compatible with Windows 7, other editions will be not compatible, so where did you download this WMP?
In addition to the solutions provided by Balaji Kundalam, you can also try this,
If you have any other 3 rd party music player installed, I suggest you uninstall them first, cause some 3 badly code program can cause the corruption of WMP, then go to Control Panel\Programs and features\Turn Windows Feature on or off, scroll down
to Media Feature, untick it, restart your PC, then go to the same place, re-tick this option, restart PC.
If for some reason the re-installation of WMP is not clean, once uninstalled, try go to %ProgramFiles% (and %ProgramFiles(x86)% for 64-bit OS) folder, and delete the Windows Media Player folder.

  • Windows Media Player on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition

I have a server with Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition installed. This server is being used as a terminal server and I needed to have Windows Media Player installed in order to use a certain feature of a program running on the terminal server. After
researching online I found that all I should need to do is install the Desktop Experience feature and Windows Media Player was included in that. After installing the Desktop Experience feature and restarting the server, I was not able to find Windows
Media Player anywhere. I tried the same process on another server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with the same results.
I was curious as to if this was a Datacenter thing where it was specifically not included with Datacenter edition. I was not able to find any documentation stating that WMP was not included in Datacenter, and everything that I found stated that the feature
sets for Standard and Datacenter were the same, it was just the licensing for them was different.
Curious to see if it would get installed with Desktop Experience on Standard, I spun up a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard VM and installed Desktop Experience and sure enough WMP was installed as well. I then upgraded the Standard VM to Datacenter with a
Datacenter product key and after a restart WMP was still present.
I have also tried this exact same process with Windows Server 2012 (non R2) Datacenter edition and WMP was installed as expected, so it appears that this is only a problem with R2.
My question is, I this "works as designed" and I was just not able to find the documentation to support it or is this a bug?
Update: After doing some more playing around I noticed that if I did a clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and then installed the Desktop Experience feature and WMP does get installed. Then I remembered that on the servers that I was trying to
install WMP on and it wasn't working were upgraded from 2012 to 2012 R2. So I created a brand new VM and installed Server 2012 Datacenter (non R2), then upgraded to Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and installed Desktop Experience and sure enough, WMP did not
install. So now I really think it is a bug and it is related to the 2012 to 2012 R2 upgrade process.

  • ActiveX: Opening a separate Windows Media Player 9 window and controlling playback

    Hey all,
I am trying to open a video in WMP4 automatically in Labview and control it. There is an existing ActiveX container but it remains on the front panel. I can control its playback, but cannot pause and resume.
I can also open the video on a WMP9 window outside of LabView through Labview, but I have not been able to control it. Merely start it, and then watch it till it finishes. This is the preferred operation I need to figure out.
    LabView Version: 8.6
ActiveX application: Windows Media Player 4
    OS: Windows XP
    My questions are:
    a) How do you pause and resume a video file if using the ActiveX container for which LabView provides
    b) How could I access the playback controls of an externally opened WMP instance through LabView (because I want to automate the playback based on acquired signals)
Note that the ActiveX refnum is WMP4  whereas the installed version on XP is WMP9.
Thanks in advance for your help,
     Hasan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I do not have the
Vision Development Module in LabView. I think it would have been under
`Vision and Motion', however that menu is empty.
    I have
managed to do what I want in the ActiveX container that shows the video
as a part of the front panel. I start the video, I pause it and the
screen goes blank (I want this feature. I could also get it to show the
frame at pause, but that does not suit my needs). When I resume the
play, it seeks to the point at which I paused the video.
    To
do this, I use the invoke property -> controls ->
methodforcontrols-> play / stop functions and the currentposition
property as both read and write. I do not have the windows media
    software development kit.
I have attached the VI which
describes what I have managed to do. Changing the first property node
to an invoke method -> openplayer node will open an external player,
but still do the required control of video playback on the wmp
container on the front panel, without affecting the video being run on
the external window. It seems like I should be able to tweak it and get
it to do the same thing on the external instance of WMP, yet I have not
been able to figure it out.
    Thanks for looking at this,
    Hasan
P.S. - I couldn't upload the video that I was using, hst_1.mpg because it is not a valid extension. Please substitute it with another file before running. Sorry for the inconvenience

  • Windows Media Player in Windows 7 displays the same album art picture for nearly all songs!

    Hello,
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium as a clean install on my PC.  I then imported all my music files back onto the PC and opened up Windows Media Player and found that probably 95% of the songs have the same album cover (Timbaland - Shock Value) against them, instead of how thety were before (either the correct album art, or no album art at all).  Does anybody have any ideas what is going on here as it is pretty annoying that nearly every song has the same album art cover.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,

    Hi Parkesian,
I would like to suggest you reset the database for Windows Media Player 12 to check the issue.
Clear the Windows Media Player database
    ========================================
    1. Close Windows Media Player.
    2. Press Win + R to open Run, copy "%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Media Player" (without the quotation marks) to the Open box and press Enter.
    3. In the Media Player folder, delete all of the files.
Note that it is not necessary to remove the folders that are also in this folder.
    4. Restart Windows Media Player.
At this point Windows Media Player will automatically rebuild the database.
    What’s the result?
