  • Windows Media Player 9.0 for OS X

This is more of a windows program-mac compatibility, rather than a mac program-windows compatibility (because we all know that everything apple makes is universally compatible, not so for Microsoft, which is why apple ROCKS!) but anyways...got a little sidetracked hehe: Why is it that when I try to download Windows Media Player 9.0 for OS X: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/windowsmediaplayerformacosx.html it downloads as Windows Media.sitx, which is a windows application because it is unable to open it in OS X...isn't it supposed to be FOR OS X? Any help would be great, thank you!

The following list covers most all video playback needs for the Mac:
    Flip4Mac Flip4Mac
(Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported)
    VLC
    Real Player
    Perian
    Adobe Flash

  • Since I updated to firefox 5.0, the windows media player plug in for firefox doesnt work anymore :(

Ok I recently upgraded to firefox 5.0, and then when I went to a website that uses windows media player to watch videos and news reports, it said I needed to download the windows media player plug in for firefox. And yet I had already done that in the past. So it directs me to the plug in for windows media player 11, I download and install and it doesnt work. Website repeats the same message, you need to download plug in. It was working fine with firefox 4.0! I use the OS Windows 7, 64bit. Any help please?

Yes I did, at first it identified it as already there, so it gave the option of repairing it, etc, so I uninstalled the Windows Media Player, then Installed it again, and it still doesn't seem to work! I have the same problem with several other plug ins, in the add ons and plug in section of Mozilla tools, I see that say, "incompatible with firefox 5.0" but as days go by those add-ons, that are built by those other websites seem to be repairing it, but I wanted to know for something as important as windows media player plug in, am I the only one getting this problem? :/

  • Since loading Firefox I can no longer access video replays on Windows Media Player. I get a message saying the material has downloaded but that it can't be played for reasons that are not correct

I have been playing the video replays from Lone Star Park for years with no problem. I loaded Mozilla Firefox and now I can no longer access the replays. I get a message that data downloaded,Windows Media Player opens, but when I try to download, I get a message saying the video cannot be played. This is very important and I am thinking of removing Mozilla!

    Hi there
I had the same problem and I found this answer to a similar question to ours, so I copied and pasted it for you
Reset the device by holding down the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for approximately 10 seconds.  After it resets the message will be gone and you can go to settings > icloud and put in your password.
That seems to be a bug with the password alert where it won't respond correctly sometimes.
    Hope this helps

  • Windows media player with safari for windows

    Hi everyone
just a little problem of mine...
safari seems unable to detect windows media player. I get a message about 'content of MIME type application/x-mplayer2' when I safari tries to use media player. I tried installing the plugin on this page http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html which didn't seem to work. I don't know if this is a mistake but the file name suggests the plugin is for firefox...
i have also tried installing quicktime and realplayer with no effect
help appreciated; thank you in advance!

    Hi on_safari,
I don't know if this is a mistake but the file name suggests the plugin is for firefox...
Safari and Firefox (and other browsers) use the same interface for handling plug-ins so Safari should be able to use it nonetheless.
I tried installing the plugin on this page http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html which didn't seem to work.
Can you describe in more detail what you mean? What did you try and what happened? Were any error messages generated?

  • When will the problem of Window Media Player Plug-in for every upgrade be ever resoled? It's getting VERY IRRITATING with every upgrade. Thank you.

With every upgrade, be it 3 or 4 and even the coming 5, many videos will hang that requires the Windows Media Player Firefox Plug-in or the LATEST Adobe Flash Player. Most plug-ins are compatible BUT not these two. Otherwise things will go smoothly.
    Thank you.

    1. Plugins aren't Mozilla's responsibility. Microsoft is responsible for the WMP plugin, which doesn't look like it is even installed in the Firefox you posted here with. You don't have the latest version of Adobe Flash AFAIK, but that is Adobe's responsibility, not Mozilla's.
    2. As far as Firefox version numbering, Firefox 4.o0 hasn't even been released yet and not even a tentative release date has been mentioned for Firefox 5.0.
Quite honestly, WMP isn't usually that big of a problem, but Flash is very problematic - enough that Steve Jobs has it banned from iOS which runs the iPhone, iPad, and deluxe iPod (whatever it's called). HTML5 is probably going to eliminate the need for the Flash Player in a few years; good riddance to bad rubbish, IMO.

  • How can i listen to windows media player files on a mac?

cna i listen to windows media files on a mac without paying for Flip4Mac?

To my knowledge, you cannot. As you apparently found out, Flip4Mac is now $5.95 (not exactly a big outlay). The company indicates that Microsoft has eliminated the free version. I "assume" the free version will still run.

  • I have installed Windows Media Player Plug-In for Firefox but the test video doesn't work, how can I solve this problem?

The plu-in is definitely there and installed

Not related to your problem, but you might want to consider upgrading to a more current version of Firefox, unless you have a specific reason for using Firefox 3.0.x. '''<u>The last</u>''' version of the Firefox 3.0.x series ('''''no longer supported or updated, even for security issues''''') was Firefox 3.0.19 which was released on 03/15/2010.

  • "Accessed denied" for Windows Media Player in Firefox for specific video

I get an "Access denied" error message after the video loads, it plays the intro video and the I get the error. Why?
    Specifically, here: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/video_player/popup.php?sid=6145418&pid=927204
The video will appear, show the intro, then give the "Access denied" error message. This happens to me in Firefox 1.5.

Install Flip4Mac WVM, http://www.flip4mac.com/, and see if that fixes the Safari problem. As I mentioned earlier, all trailers play without any problem.

  • How do I download Windows Media Player for Mac?

I keep downloading it from the Microsoft website..and...it doesn't work. My husband bought a new MacBook (Leopard) and he's trying to figure out how to look at something on a website that gives him a link to download this. I helped him download Flip4 Mac...Windows Media Player 7.1 for Mac. Quicktime something-or-other. Windows STX 1,2,3 4, 5 and on...and...It still doesn't open. What am I doing wrong?

WMV's player application will work as a standalone application, but the browser plug-in will not work because it is not a universal binary. For that you will need to install Flip4Mac. The last Mac version of WMV is 9.0 and can be downloaded here. You will need an appropriate dearchiver such as Stuffit or The Unarchiver - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Be sure you properly uninstall whatever items you've previously installed. You should quit the browser before installing any of the above.

  • Having trouble using windows media player in a browser

Everytime I try to open streaming video in Safari I get an error message, sometimes I get "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again" and sometimes "error creating unique tmp file". I have installed wmp I don't know how many times but I just can't get rid of this. I tryed this in my friend's mac and it worked fine but mine is giving me trouble. I have also tryed this in other browsers like Omniweb, firefox and even Internet explorer (internut exploder), what can I do?

I do not know why it works on one Mac and not another. From a Microsoft Bulletin:
    Playing protected files
Content providers can protect Windows Media files from unauthorized playback by using a technology called digital rights management (DRM). A Windows Media file that has been assigned digital rights is called a "protected file."
To play a protected file, you must obtain a license (a kind of electronic key) from the content provider. In many cases, the Player can acquire a license for you automatically when you attempt to play the file. In other cases, the content provider may not issue you a license until you pay a fee or provide additional information.
Although it is usually possible to play protected files by using Windows Media Player 9 Series for Mac OS X, in some cases you may encounter one of the following issues:
    * The Player displays the error message "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and file name are correct and try again." In this case, verifying the path and file name will not solve the problem.
    * A Web page is displayed that informs you that you should upgrade to a newer version of the Player. In this case, you already have the latest version of Windows Media Player for Mac OS X, so upgrading will not solve the problem.
In both cases, there is no way to resolve the issue, and you won't be able to play the file.
However, I have sometimes been able to extract the url for the media file from the page source and put it directly into WMP and then been able to listen to it.

  • Office for Mac: windows media player and Napster?

I have recently bought an iMac g5 and have had Microsoft Office for Macintosh installed. Last night I was having my first general rummage and discovered that I appear to have a Windows Media installer included in the software for Office. I have a Napster account and had previously assumed that I would not be able to access it from my iMac.
Could anyone advise me whether it would be sensible for me to try to install Windows Media from this Office for Mac package, and whether it would cause any issues with iTunes or otherwise?
If anyone has any experience using Napster on an Apple (hope the coincedence of those words in the same sentence is not too sacreligious), please shout, whether good or bad.
    Thanks in advance
    James

    Hi,
There is indeed a version of Windows Media Player for Macs. However, it is version 9 whereas there is a later version for PC's that is much more full featured. In addition Microsoft have recently officially discontinued Windows Media Player for Mac after not updating it for years. This means that it does not work with Napster unfortunately. However you can use Windows Media Player for Mac to play back Windows Media Files without copy protection (DRM) such as windows media files from the internet. To do this you can install Windows Media Player for Mac. Alternatively Microsoft suggests that you use the Flip4Mac windows media player plugin (www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm) which allows you to play back Windows Media files using Quicktime Player.
I find this to be a superior solution (It is also free) as the experience is more seamless and it supports more formats. Therefore I suggest you download and install this and do not install windows media player.

  • Windows Media Player for mac

I just downloaded it and it has an icon on my desktop that says Windows Media.sitx. When I click on it it says :
There is no default application specified to open the document windows media.sitx

Download and install Flip4Mac; Windows Media Player is outdated on Mac OS X, and should not be used. If you want to use WMP anyway, open the file with StuffIt Expander.

  • Windows Media Player in Mac OSX 10.4

I recently upgraded to 10.4 a few months ago, and before I did that, I had Windows Media Player installed on Saffari. When I Upgraded, it still worked, but when I upgraded my other Mac to 10.4, I tried to install Windows Media Player on Safari but it did mot work. My guess is that 10.4 does not recognize the .sitx format that previously worked on my 10.3. So is there another version of Windows Media Player that I'm just not seeing, or can I download another player for Safari?

    Hi Tanner,
My guess is that 10.4 does not recognize the .sitx format that previously worked on my 10.3
Mac OS X 10.4 no longers comes with StuffIt Expander. You'll need to install that to be able to use .sitx files.
