Windows Media Player Error; Troubleshooting Error

Question #1
When I try to play music in windows Media Player I get the following message:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device.  There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.
The sound was working about a week ago, and I do have IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver on my laptop.
Question @2
When I run any Troubleshooting program I get the following error code:
Pkg ID: AudioPlaybackDiagnostics  (This varies depending on what I'm troubleshooting)
Path: Unknown (This varies)
Error Code:  0x8E5E0247  (This error code is always the same)
Source:  Engine
User: Leyna-PC\Leyna
Context:  Elevated  (This is usually restricted)

Hi Mike,
Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When done, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below.
Chipset Driver - Windows 8.1
When complete, shut down the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click Shutdown to temporrily prevent a hybrid boot.
Start the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - restart the notebook and try playing the mp3 file.

  • Windows media Player suddenly can't read some of my MP3, and only with one user account !!!

    Hi!
    here is my problem:
I have a lot of MP3 in my W7 personnal computer at home. I read MP3 everyday with WMP and all was working fine, until some days ago. Some of my MP3 can't be read by WMP. I've looked at their properties, but there is nothing wrong, compared to others
    MP3 that I can read.
The "unreadable" files are correctly read by VLC. So they are not corrupted.
When I swtich to an other user, the same MP3 are read correctly with WMP. (Both usersd are admins)
My MP3 are présents on two computers at home. When I connect from my second computer with a
\\computername\c$, I can read these files. So the files are definitivly OK. But when I connect from my first computer to the second one, I can't read the MPS that have the same name! it's absolutely strange!
I've tried to uninstall WMP, to delete all files related to WMP in my Appdata folder, I have even tried the FixIt from Microsoft, but any of these steps were helpful.
I've copied the "unreadable" files from the Music folder to my desktop, allways the same issue.
I've disabled my Antivirus, but without any results. I've tried the system restore, idem.
My computer is running W7 32 bits, SP1, all updates installed regularly.
Please help me, I want to understand what has happened!!! :)

    Hi Yolanda,
the error message is inside a popup: (French trnaslation) "Windows media Player encountered an error and will close." I have the choice beetween "CLOSE" and "HELP ON THE WEB".
Of course the "help" is totally useless....
I don't see any troublshooter related to "media player". The only troubleshooter where I can choose Media player is for the "compatibility mode", so it's not helpful. On the "audio and devices" troubleshooter I see "read
a DVD with Windows Media Player", but that's not my case.
I've already done the last step. I copy the MP3 from my second computer to the "problematic" one, and I can't read my file. But, on the second computer, i can read this MP3 so the issue is ONLY when I try to read this file with my Windows session.
(in the same computer, with the administrator session, I can read all the files).
To put it in a nutshell:
on computer A logged as CEDRIC i can not read the mp3 called SUPERSONG (it's an example lol)
on computer A logged as administrator, I can read the SUPERSONG
on computer B logged as CEDRIC (other local account but same name) I can read the SUPERSONG mp3 that is present in the music Library (that is not the same file, but it's a file with the same name, and of crouse this is the same song). (all my MP3 are copied
from computer A to computer B in case of failure on one of the computers)
on computer A logged as CEDRIC, if I do a
\\computerB\c$\...\SUPERSONG I can not read it.
I know this is complicated to explain, but if I ask to the Microsoft community that is because I don't know what to do ;) ;) ;)

  • Windows Media Player suddenly not working- using wrong bit..?

This is the error msg I get when trying to start windows media player:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
I have not changed anything, it looks like my computer tried to do a quicktime update however when I when to most recent updates I did not see that wmp had been updated.. I use 64 bit on my computer, but i believe I was told that I can switch between 32
and 64 bit. How do I fix this problem as I cannot use wmp for anything right now? Thanks.

    Hi,
Firstly, if the issue did not occur before, please try to use the system restore to return to the point which the problem did not appear.
You may run Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter and then test.
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter
If the issue persists, reinstall Windows Media Center via Turn Windows features on or off
    a. Open Control Panel/Programs and Features.
    b. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane.
    c. Expand "Media Features", uncheck "Windows Media Player". Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart.
Sometimes, this error message appears because a installation file is corrupted. You can re-download or re-copy the setup file (Wmplayer.exe) for a test.
If the issue persists, I would like to suggest you use Event Viewer to check the related logs.
What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer
    Hope it helps.

  • Windows Media Player in Windows 8 Pro-64 Bit - Server Execution Failed

I'm running Windows 8 Pro - 64bit.  I have also installed Windows Media Center add-on.
Windows Media Player returns an error "Server Execution Failed" when attempting to load any non-music media file, such as .avi, .mp4, .wmv, etc.   These files open and play properly in the base Windows 8 "app" Video, and in Windows Media Center.
WMP opens OK from a desktop shortcut and updates it's music libraries.  It plays all types of audio-only media files properly.
I have tried all the various "fixes" for various versions of Windows and WMP including removing WMP as a feature, rebooting and "re-installing" it as a feature... I've run regserv.dll, etc. all to no avail...
I just want WMP to be the default "media" player for all standard file types...
    Anyone have any suggestions... ?
    Thanks... MTGB

You can try the following suggestions.
    Method 1.
    1. Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Find the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, stop it temporarily.
    2. Close Windows Media Player 12 if it is started.
    3. input %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\ to Windows Explorer to find the folder.
    4. Move all files in the folder to another place as a backup. Move files in the specific folder will reset database.
    5. Restart service and Windows Media Player to check the result.
    Method 2.
    1. Open command prompt with Admin.
    2. In the command prompt type the following command
net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add
    3. Restart the computer to check the result.

  • Windows media player does not play all videos

This laptop s a HP G71-340US model... Before it played all of my music and video files but lately it began giving me te error message... windows media player encountered an error when opening this file. It still plays quick time and mpg files but avi, mts, mod, movie clips, video clips.... they do not open or if they do they dont play right. I am frustrated as I have a project due i n a few days and I am working wth several movies taken with different cameras. Any ideas. I have uninstalled and reinstalled media player and tried running trouble shooters but no answers so far. Thanks.

    Hi,
Try the following to force Windows Media Player to re-build the Library Database.
A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.
    http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=107872&a=7122339&tag=601108&loc=10
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.
Make sure Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre are closed.
Launch Free Commander, double click Users, double click 'your user name', double click Local Settings, double click Application Data, double click Microsoft and double click Media Player.  Delete all the files that have the extension .wmdb - do not delete any folders.
Close Free Commander and open Windows Media Player - it will now begin to re-build the library database which may take a while, but when it has finished see if the movie files play Ok now.

  • Windows Media Player keeps stopping

    Hi,
I probably am in the wrong forum for this so, if someone can first move this to the appropriate forum, I'd be pleased.
Anyways, my Windows Media Player constantly stops whenever I play a movie through the CD Rom Drive and I'd like this issue resolved. I haven't uploaded or installed any files that would cause this problem. I believe I have Windows Media Player 11 (my laptop
is a Windows Vista if that helps). How do I permanently prevent it from stopping whenever I play a DVD on my laptop? Thanks.

    Hi,
I suggest you run the Media Player Settings
    troubleshooter and check.
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter
    Please login with
    Clean Boot
to see if the same issue occurs.
    If the issue persists,
1: Run System File Checker (SFC) scan.
SFC scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.
    a. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    b. Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    c. In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow
Step 2:  Disable and re-enable Media Player.
    a. Click on start and then go to Control panel.
    b. Now click on programs and features.
    c. Then click on “Turn Windows features on or off”.
    d. Expand Media features.
    e. Uncheck Media Player.
    f. Restart the computer.
To re-enable Media Player, follow the same steps and place a check mark next to Media Player in Windows features and restart the computer.
    Hope that helps.

  • I definitely have put this under the wrong catergory but i don't care, I was wondering why everytime i click on a video to play it says: Windows media player has stopped working

Ok, so I made a video with Bandicam, and every time I click on it to play it (it is saved as an MP4), it just says: Windows Media Player has stopped working. Then it gives me two choices: Close the program OR look online for a solution. I REALLY want to
post these videos, but I can't. If anyone could help that would be great!

    Hi juderocks14,
Please first take a check with the other Players and see if they could play the MP4 file normally. If it can't be played, which means it might be corrupted. You may ask at the Bandicam side, or save the files again.
If issue insists, take a try with the Troubleshooter (For Windows 7, 8 and 8.1):
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter
Fix Windows Media Player video, and other media or library issues
Or you may try to turn Windows Features on or off to reset Windows  Media Player:
Turn Windows features on or off (Before turn it on again, please remember to reboot first)
    More reference:
What happens if I turn off Windows Media Player?

THIS FEELS LIKE THE COMMERICAL ...

WMP for Mac has been discontinued and is not written for Intel Macs.
Instead you should use the free Flip4Mac QuickTime WM plugin available free from Flip4Mac.com
If you choose to stick with WMP, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office> rather than an Apple forum.

  • Error with Windows Media Player ActiveX control

When I try to drop in a Windows Media Player control I get an error:
    "Error loading type library/DLL"
    Any ideas?

If upgrading is out of question. Like a budget stopping it. You could try to this http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8002 That will allow you to run XP inside windows 7. It is also other media players like VLC and Apple quick time that have ActiveX controllers. I have tested the Quicktime version and it is quite good.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • HP Pavilion dm4 - Windows 7, 64-bit. Error message: Windows Media Player won't play my DVD

Here is the actual error message. The video card has an updated driver. I can't figure out how to resolve this -
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

    Hi,
First of all, if you've recently installed any virtual drive software ( an exmple of this is Daemon Tools ), temporarily uninstall it, restart the notebook and see if this has corrected the error.
If the above doesn't apply, try downloading and installing the free KLite codec pack on the following link.
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/
When the installation has completed, restart the notebook and check again.
    Let me know.

  • I am getting an error saying "Your computer doesn't seem to support any version of Media Player". When I look at my list of plugins I do see that I have Window Media Player Firefox Plugin 1.0.0.8. Why am I getting this error?

I am trying to load a page & I get the error "Your computer doesn't seem to support any version of Media Player". I then go to the tools & to add ons & to plugins. There under the plugins is Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin 1.0.0.8. It is enabled. My question is what does this error mean? Do I have the Media Player I need or not?

    Notes:
    1) Please use the code tags when posting code or JNLP/HTML. It helps to retain indentation and avoids asterisks and plus sings being interpreted as formatting marks. To do that, select the code/JNLP etc. and click the CODE button seen on the Plain Text tab of the message posting form.
    2) That launch file is invalid. You might check it (and the project in general) using JaNeLA.
    3) The only place that SimpleSerial class could be, that the JRE would find, is in the root of aeon.jar. Is it actually there?

  • Windows media player error

I have been trying to burn an audio cd. I start the program and it prepares my disc and burns about 5 tracks out of 20 then it stops and finalizes my disc and says the tracks are complete. then a dialog box pops up and says the process was unable to burn
my cd because the burner is busy or needs to have a software update. I checked the update status and it says it's up to date. I tried burning at a slower rate bur the same problem persists. I also uninstalled and reinstalled and the same problem persists.
media play plays any type of cd with no problem.
Windows Media Player could not complete burning because the disc is not compatible with your drive. Try inserting a different kind of recordable media or use a disc that supports a write speed that is compatible with your drive.
this also pops up from time to time. is there any solution.

    Hi,
This error message usually caused by incompatible between DISC with CD drive. Maybe the speed of Disc was too high, please try to use other type of disc for test.
