Windows Media Player Extension "Add-on for this website failed to run" except for Administrator

This is on a Windows server 2008 r2. I am trying to allow users to watch help videos at a vendor site. If I remote desktop using the Administrator, I can play the videos and if I check the "manage add-ons", I see Windows Media Player as an extension.
If I remote desktop on as a "normal user" and try to view the same video, I get the error message "An add-on for this website failed to run" and if I check the "manage add-ons", Windows Media Player extension is not there. That
makes sense, since if it is not there, it won't run.
Why isn't Windows Media Player extension showing up in IE 10 on the server for anyone other than Admin? How could I make this work? If I am somehow preventing this from taking place, where would I go on the server to change that?

Hi,
Have you try adding this video website into trusted sites zone or compatibility view list?
Generally, improper security settings may casue failure to run some add-ons. So, please attempt to  decrease  security level for Internet Zone to check if this issue still occurs.
How do you think your issue is related to Windows Media Player extension? Based on my knowledge, Flash player plug-in can lead to the problem. Please reinstall your flash player for the current user.
Also, Please check in event log for more clues.

  • Windows Media Player Extension Overrides Quicktime Plugin in IE 7 & 8

I have some .mp4 videos on my website that stream brilliantly with the Quicktime plug-in, in Firefox.
If I use IE, the information bar drops down and wants to use "Windows Media Player Extension." If a user allows it, the player turns into a WMP GUI. At that point it is impossible to switch back to the Quicktime Plug-in.
I'm afraid users will allow the WMP Extension and then never be able to watch the videos. Any suggestions?

Proper html page code would "force" the QuickTime browser plug-in be used instead of Windows Media Player even if the user had the .mp4 extension assigned to it.
    http://www.qtbridge.com/pageot/
Free software that can write the code. You need only copy/paste it into your page.
You could also put the same codecs into a .mov container (simple Save As using QuickTime Player Pro). Nearly all users have the .mov file extension assigned to QuickTime.

  • Webcast in Windows Media Player format - Can I save this to my iPod

There are news events that are webcast the next day using RealPlayer and Windows Media Player. They play as nice little videos in my web browser, complete with audio.
Is there a way that these things can be captured and converted to a correct format for the iPod. I tried control-clicking (on Mac, equivalent to right-clicking in Windows) and 'download source' only yielded a 24k html document. So, I guess the first goal would be how to download the video file itself.
Anyone have experience with how to do this? Please let me know how to go about it.
    Thank You,
    Ken

I guess I am finding out that they are streaming and can't be downloaded. When I try to download they just download the link to the video.
Maybe someone with experience in capturing online video can look at it for me and see if they know a way to capture it to my computer so I can convert it.
It's so I can get the state of the union address that I missed part of the other night / webcast right at the top:

Thank you so much for your help with this.

  • Windows media player extension is installed but does not pass the plugin test...what do I do now?

I followed the instructions to install the Microsoft Media Player Extension in order to be able to listen to the radio in the Youtube Toolbar. I checked to make sure it was installed as per the instructions, then I tried the test that is provided in this link: http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/wmp11.html, but the screen was just black, and the radio still doesn't work...what should I do now?

OK...but I still can't get the radio to work...I get an error message that says:
"None of the Radio Player's stations or podcasts work.
If none of the stations or podcasts work, then check whether your computer meets all the requirements below:
    - Operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS.
    - Windows requirements:
    - JavaScript is enabled in your browser .
    - Cookies are enabled in your browser .
    - Windows Media Player version 9 or higher is installed
    - If you have an older Firefox toolbar version, you may need to install Media Player ActiveX .
If you have met all the requirements above and the Radio Player still doesn’t work, please contact our Support Center . ''
I've done all of the above, all requirements are met, and it STILL doesn't work!! Now what please?
Last thing says "please contact our Support Center"...isn't this the support center...if not, please let me know who I should write to?

  • I cannot hear real player or windows media player extensions

My iphone 4 SAFARI doesn't open real player or windows media player forms.  What should I do?

Until the 2.0 software is released, it's not possible to download an application to your iPhone at all. Once the new software is out, it might be possible, but it will be up to Real, Microsoft or a third-party to develop such a player. I think the likelihood that Real or Microsoft will pony up to be very low. Whether someone else will, we'll have to wait and see.

  • Windows Media Player Won't Open for Some Streaming Audio

I run almost every day, and while my friends think my iPod is playing music, the truth is that I stream and record NPR programming for playback during the runs. I'm hooked, but suddenly when I go to the NPR web pages and click on the "listen" link, nothing happens, or I'm told that I don't have a player installed (I have both WMP and Real Player) installed.
Any idea why this might be happening? I can play audio from other web sites, but I'm just guessing that the problem isn't on the NPR side, but rather on my side. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Ditch WMP and try the free Flip4Mac WM QuickTime plugin from flip4mac.com

  • Windows Media Player in Windows 7 displays the same album art picture for nearly all songs!

    Hello,
I have just installed Windows 7 Home Premium as a clean install on my PC.  I then imported all my music files back onto the PC and opened up Windows Media Player and found that probably 95% of the songs have the same album cover (Timbaland - Shock Value) against them, instead of how thety were before (either the correct album art, or no album art at all).  Does anybody have any ideas what is going on here as it is pretty annoying that nearly every song has the same album art cover.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Ian

    Hi Parkesian,
I would like to suggest you reset the database for Windows Media Player 12 to check the issue.
Clear the Windows Media Player database
    ========================================
    1. Close Windows Media Player.
    2. Press Win + R to open Run, copy "%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Media Player" (without the quotation marks) to the Open box and press Enter.
    3. In the Media Player folder, delete all of the files.
Note that it is not necessary to remove the folders that are also in this folder.
    4. Restart Windows Media Player.
At this point Windows Media Player will automatically rebuild the database.
    What’s the result?

  • Cannot download Windows Media Player for Mac.....

On this intel-based mac, i cannot seem to download Windows Media Player, or Flip4Mac components for Quicktime...has anyone found a solution for this problem....although i think Quicktime is a really nice media player, Windows Media Player is used much more frequently and i need it to view videos that Quicktime Player cannot open and that are only available in WMA format..please help me!...

OK here's the deal, you can download www.flip4mac.com and load onto your Intel MBP. First thing to do before launching the flip4mac installer is to go to
Applications-->Utilities - Find the application "Installer" and right click- get info and check box "open using rosetta".
Go back to flip4mac installer and launch. It will now allow you to install onto Intel Mac. Previously, you would get an error not allowing you to install on Intel Macs. Should be gone now. Once installed, you can go back and change the installer back to original. Once flip4mac is installed, find the Safari app in the applications folder and right click- get info and select "open using rosetta". All Windows .wmv files will now play within the browser window and not download to your HD. The sacrifice is the hit in speed you'll take while Safari runs in Rosetta mode. But you can toggle on and off as you need.

  • Bloomberg Videos don't play (Windows Media Player for Mac installed)

Hi - I tried to watch a video from Bloomberg.com. It did not work even after i installed the Windows Media player. Has anyone resolved this issue, which many users must have given the popularity of the Bloomberg.com site? Thanks.

That program is out of date. Use Flip4Mac with QuickTime Player or your web browser instead.

Versions of Windows (and WMP) prior to Windows7 and WMP12 do not as standard support playing AAC format files, which is the format that Apple sell tracks in from the iTunes Store.
Windows7 and WMP12 do support playing AAC files as standard.
It is possible to install free plugins and codecs for use with Windows XP, and Vista and WMP 9, 10 and 11, so they also can play AAC files (and Apple Lossless). See my article on this page http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/SW/WMP/FileFormat.htm this allows WMP to fully support .m4a files including reading the meta-tags and putting them in the correct music section of the WMP library.
Note: The above only applies to .m4a AAC files, also known as "iTunes Plus" format tracks. If you have older tracks purchased from the iTunes Store, they may have the .m4p files extension which means they are protected using Apple's "FairPlay" DRM and cannot be played in any version of WMP.
Once you have successfully got your iTunes tracks in WMP, they will also work in Microsoft Media Center.
As per my article on the above web-page, it is also possible to get WMP to play Apple Lossless files. For Windows7 however you need to disable the built-in AAC support first. The codec pack on this page, will let you disable the built-in AAC support, and also add a replacement codec which can play both AAC and Apple Lossless. See http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html
Note: Unfortunately, due to a typical Microsoft short-sightedness, even though WMP12 in Windows7 can now itself read the meta-tags in .m4a files, and does so successfully for AAC files, and even though the file format and tag format for Apple Lossless files is *100% identical*, and even though if you install the Shark007 codecs, you have installed an Apple Lossless compatible codec, WMP12 will refuse to let you add Apple Lossless files to music section of its library (they show up under "other" media, and do play).

  • Windows media player plugin is not working in firefox 4.if any one know what to do pls reply me

MY FRIEND SUGGESTED THIS TO ME
    I HAVE TRIED THIS
    BUT ITS WASTE
I CANT EVEN FIND ANYTHING AS
    WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
I have had the same problem since I installed Firefox 4.0.
Thank you for letting us know that The RealPlayer plugin conflict, was the source of this problem.
Another way to fix this (for good) is doing the following:
    1) Click on "Tools">Options"
    2) Click on the "Applications" tab
    3) Search in the "Content Type" column, all the applications that start with the words "Windows Media." Click on the content that is listed to the right of each application's name and choose "Use Windows Media Player (default)."
By doing this, Firefox will avoid using the Windows Media Player plugin and will open the corresponding application directly with Windows Media Player.
I just did this and is working perfectly. Try it and let me know how it works for you.

I just saw this posted to the mozilla.support.firefox newsgroup in the topic,<br>

''Just for the record, the extension that conflicted with Windows Media Player is named: Real Player Browser Record Plug-In 14.0.2''
