Windows Media Player Problems and MacBook Pro

Hi!
I installed the Windows Media Player 9 for Mac on my MacBook Pro, used it a couple times and now it just won't work. I have deleted it and re-installed it several times and the same thing happens. WMP starts to load and then i get an error message saying the application ended abruptly and other apps and OS have not been affected. I then sent the report to Apple by pressing the "Report..." button. So, now i just want to get rid of the program and all its files. I deleted the WMP folder and it's preference files, but when i initially installed the program, the VISE installer said it installed 510 files to my HD. Really?
My 2 questions are:
1- what are all the files I have to delete to totally get this application and all its files off my system? I want a clean uninstall as possible.
2- have i done any potential harm to my MacBook Pro? Any diagnostic checks I should run?

The [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player MozillaZine "Windows Media Player" KB doc] explains installation and troubleshooting in-depth including a link to test the plugin, which should help you solve this problem.
Do note - if your Windows 7 OS is a 64-bit version, make sure that the plugin actually ends up in the Mozilla Firefox plugin folder (default '''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\'''). There are reports of the plugin (or actually Firefox) ending up in the wrong folder. 64-bit Windows systems has 2 Program Folder locations - "Program Files" for 64-bit applications, and "Program Files (x86)" for 32-bit applications.
Also note that the Windows Media Player is required to use the plugin - if WMP has been uninstalled from the Windows Control Panel, the plugin will not work.

Not able to open Windows Media Player files with Quicktime Pro

Hi,
I have recently downloaded a couple of videos that I am planning to use in FCP. The file extension of the downloaded videos is .asf and I am able to play them with Windows Media Player. However, to use them in FCP I have to convert them into Quicktime format. I have Quicktime Pro version 7.0.4 and I was told that I should be able to open the files in Quicktime therefore automatically converting them into quicktime files. It's not working and I am completely out of options and ideas.
Please help if you ever had that problem.

As I understand it M$ is providing additional distribution as a sort of "seal of approval."
Don't forget WMV/WMA is a proprietary codec from M$ and involves licensing. In that sense they're providing resources. Apparently the Flip4Mac folks are actually building it themselves though.
Think of it as being in the construction business and you're required to buy the lumber from only one source but you still have to build the house yourself.
I've just got done downloading the newer version and
I hope for improvements.
It looks like M$ is giving some resources to the
flip4mac creators. Maybe a M$ "plant" all along?

Safari/Windows Media Player problem.

I have a bit of a problem at the moment with viewing video content on some sites - when I click the link/button/whatever this message appears -
"Safari can't display content on this page
Some content on this page requires an Internet plug-in that Safari doesn’t support. The application “Windows Media Player” may be able to display this content. Would you like to try?"
When I do try WMP, it opens ok, tries to play it, then gives me this message-
"The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"

Do you also have Flip4Mac installed?
If not, Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows Media Player for OS X but Flip4Mac will continue to be supported which adds a plugin for Safari and other browsers that should work.

Windows Media Player Problem after upgrading to 8.1

Hello, I upgraded my Yoga 13 from windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and now Media player 12 gives me this error message:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
I had Divx Codecs installed prior to upgrading so I tried uninstalling them which did not work, then I tried reinstalling Media Player which did not work either.
Any ideas??

This problem is actually caused by the Conexant audio driver. Something about the Windows 8.1 installation screws up the this driver installation. The fix is to reinstall the Conexant audio driver from the Lenovo driver page:

HT1567 why does Windows Media Player read and play a CD-R but iTunes won't?

I created a CD-R using a Windows laptop running Vista. When I attempt to import that CD-R into iTunes, it will not correctly recognize it as an audio CD. Yet Windows Media Player handles it properly. What is the problem?

It is hard to know, except that CD-Rs are finicky.
However, if WMP can handle, rip it in WMP and then add the files to your iTunes library using the command File > Add Folder to LIbrary.
Make sure that your WMP Rip Settings are for MP3, not for WMA.

Windows Media player problem after 4.2.2

Since the KitKat update WIndows Media Player won't show my phone so I can't sync my music.there.
Yes I know I could use Media Go - but WMP is a LOT easier to use.
I can get the Z1 through My Computer ok.
My Xperia Z tablet with KitKat works fine with Windows Media Player so why doesn't the Z1? Using same cable / USB 2.0 port
This is annoying me so I hope it's a quick answer.
I've reinstalled the driver in Device Manager.

Well I seem to have sorted it using the Z2 driver mentioned in another post.
WIll try this on my daughters laptop / Xperia Z as she has the same problem since the Kitkat update.

Windows Media Player problem

I use Windows Media Player as my default player. Starting today, any video (whether from a DVD or already existing on my computer) comes up in a tiny window. The media player screen itself comes up filling the screen as always, but the viewing area is only 3 or 4 inches. Clicking on the buttons in upper right to expand to full screen or the middle button has no effect. Normally, the picture comes up much larger, filling the media player framework completely. I can click the media player control at lower right to expand to full screen, eliminating the media player frame, but I want it to come up like it always has. Can anyone help?

Adobe Player problem on MacBook Pro

I have both an iMac and a MacBook Pro.
I have the latest Adobe Player on both.
Using Firefox as browser on both.
Yet when trying to watch videos embedded at sites on the MacBook Pro, videos that play fine on the iMac don't play on the MacBook Pro.
For instance, both videos on this blog posting show and play on my iMac, but on the MBP this error message shows in the black video box: "The video can't be played with your current setup. I have tried re-installing Adobe Flash Player on the MBP, but the problem persists.
I don't even know how to begin troubleshooting this, so any help appreciated.

I just tried that site. Works ok for me.
You did remember to restart FF after installing the flash player didn't you?
Try also installing Perian.

Using a Creative Media Player on my MacBook Pro

Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX. Don't have an IPod, unfortunately. I do have a Creative Vision:M 30GB media player. Anyway to hook this up to my MacBook Pro so I can sync music, etc with Itunes or something else? I don't believe the Creative site has Mac drivers.

Audio problem and macbook pro very slow

Hello,
I have a macbook pro for less than a year.
The latter has begin to be very slow. In addition, I have no sound which are emitted from my Mac, setting apart the opening gong. By the jack, there is no red light that are emitted. I tried to go in the program "audio setup midi" but it does not even want to open. So I tried to open the configuration panel go to select a new audio output device, but to my surprise, after an interminable waiting times, I got a list of blank audio device .. .
I noticed that it started when I put my Mac to version 10.7.4 ... So this is very recent ...
When downloading the update, I was editing a script with automator and my Mac was rammed by an HDMI cable has a television, if it ever can help.
I was wondering how to solve my problem.

j'ai un macbook pro depuis moins d'un an.
Ce dernier a commencer a être très lent. De plus, je n'ai plus aucun son qui es émis de mon Mac, mise a part le gong d'ouverture. Par la prise jack, il n'y a pas de lumière rouge qui es émis. J'ai essayé d'aller dans le programme "configuration audio midi" mais celui-ci ne veux même pas ouvrir. You almost need to have it if you're going to be using most web sites. As great as QT is, it doesn't seem to be universally utilized.
You can get version 9 from Microsoft, but a lot of later content won't work. Flip4Mac is available and works well enough, though there's just something intangibly inelegant for me. Hard to explain, really. It works, though.

Problem in stretching video using windows media player control

Hello
I am using windows media player 9 and set the stretchtofit property to true.But when I play a video of size 256X192 on a window media control player whose width and height is set to 640 and 384 respectively I find black areas on left and right side of video.My system has windows 2000 and is set to 1280X720 resolution.I am using labview 7.0.
If anybody encountered the same problem or any suggestion please help to solve the problem.

Are you sure that this property means that the image is "stretched"? It might mean that if the video size is X and the control's size is 2X, the picture will be stretched to fit the control without losing the aspect ratio. I know that the regular WMP does not stretch images. You can easily test this by playing a file smaller than the control and setting the property to F. You can also search google\Microsoft for the WMP SDK.

I have the latest Firmware installed (found it easiest to do using the Software AutoUpdate section of the website) even installed with WMP on my pc.
Also I updated my creative media explorer, which allowed me to convert more video files from the same place. I found this really usefull.
I have?NOT had the problem of my player not being recognised when connected to my pc and unfortunately I do not know how to solve that problem, sorry, hope some one else can help you with that.

Well I figured it out. Turns out if you go to Sync(little down arrow)>DEVICE_NAME>Advanced Options>Quality if you leave it on automatic it will transfer wav files, but if you change it (I did without knowing) then the highest quality you're going to get is 92 WMA.

.avi video clip audio not working in premiere pro but play is windows media player

Using .avi video files. They play fine in windows media player. In premiere pro, the video plays fine, but there is no audio. When moved to a sequence, it builds an audio track, but it is silent. Any help is appreciated.
