  • Quicktime and windows media player question??

i have sent a quicktime file of a spot i did for a client, they like it and have uploaded it to their website, but they are getting some that say they can not view it because they only use windows media player, i know this maybe a stupid question but how can i send them a copy they can use in media player so they have both?? thanks for you help!!!

you can buy and use the WMV Studio windows media export components from Flip4Mac which wil allow you to export to a windows media format directly from FCP and other suitable QT compliant apps ...
or you can copy the file over onto your own quicktime enabled PC and use the free, and much faster, windows media encoder there.

  • Flip4Mac / Windows Media Player question..

My husband subscribes to a service that allows him to hear audio commentary for his favorite Scottish football team. It requires the latest version of Windows Media Player though. I was thinking that Flip4Mac might be the answer, but when I tested it out, it gave me this message "Flip4Mac WMV is unable to play DRM protected content".
Does this mean he is out of luck and can only listen to his games on a PC? (He's really angry with me for switching us to the world of Mac).
    Thanks...

This is what the support site says.
Content providers can protect Windows Media files from unauthorized playback by using a technology called digital rights management (DRM). A Windows Media file that has been assigned digital rights is called a "protected," or "licensed," or "secured" file.
To play a protected file, you must obtain a license (a kind of electronic key) from the content provider. In many cases, the Player can acquire a license for you automatically when you attempt to play the file. In other cases, the content provider may not issue you a license until you pay a fee or provide additional information, such as your e-mail address.
Content providers can issue several different versions of DRM licenses; however, Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X only supports version 1 licenses. This means that you might be able to play some protected files, but not others.
We have informed our content partners about this issue so that they can decide whether to offer version 1 licenses to their customers who use Macintosh computers.
    Its worth a try.

  • BIG QUESTION/ QuickTime or WIndows Media Player

Tomorrow morning i need to make a recommendation as to what product to go with for handling all web based video content. Stuff like streaming educational videos to live press feeds. Basically It's a no brainer for me, I say quicktime, but this would mean a complete overhaul off their network, which is fairly new. So the question is, what would be the definitive reason to go with Quicktime and what does it offer the WMP doesn't.
This will have an effect on a large amount of people that use windows based PC's. So Quicktime will be a hard sell, but I believe its the way our industry is going and has gone.
Any advise at all would be greatly appreciated. I have studied all I can and just need to hear from people who actually use these products.
    Thank you..
    G4 Dual 1.25 2 GB RAM, Mac Pro Dual 3.66 5 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    QuickTime is really a no-brainer.
Start on the content creation side: EVERY professional media production tool I can think of (well, except for those intended to author Flash...) supports QuickTime natively, most actually use the QuickTime frameworks internally. In my own shop, we use mostly Avid Xpress Pro systems, and every one of them can generate a beautiful QuickTime movie with very little trouble, but about half of the systems will obstinately refuse to export a watchable Windows Media file.
For the content itself, QuickTime provides a scalable multimedia architecture that can easily integrate into just about anything you want. QuickTime Streaming Server and QuickTime Broadcaster are perfectly capable streaming products, and if you don't want to invest in a MacOS server, you can run the Darwin Streaming Server instead; I believe we're running it on a Solaris-based machine here. Best of all, the streaming tools are free.
Are you into custom presentation and Web delivery? QuickTime is the only architecture I can think of that allows you to embed a custom player *into the movie itself*. Do you have special features you wish to include? Once I visited a web page where they used a JavaScript player, an ActiveX control, Windows Media Player, and a ton of JavaScript to provide multi-lingual subtitles for a news videotape. Had they chosen to use QuickTime instead, the text tracks and alternate audio tracks could have been embedded into the movie and some very simple JavaScript controls could have been used to control the QuickTime plug-in. Quite simply, if your needs extend *at all* beyond the most basic problems of presenting audio and video files, QuickTime has the technical capabilities that *no other multimedia platform* can provide. Yes, you can stream or serve any kind of video file. But if you want to go beyond that, you need QuickTime.
Finally, it's worth mentioning that QuickTime, unlike Windows Media, is truly a multiple-platform solution. It stops short of being totally platform-independent, but as a cross-platform architecture it again far surpasses Windows Media, in that the entire QuickTime architecture is available in the freely downloadable QuickTime Player for Windows. By comparison, the MacOS version of Windows Media Player is buggy, incomplete, slow, and was abandoned by Microsoft about four years ago. One may argue that QuickTime is not installed by default on Windows machines (so what? Windows Media Player is not installed by default on Apples, either!), but the market strength of Apple's iPod product line has largely taken care of that problem. Apple offers a generous distribution license for QuickTime, and at least when you install QuickTime on a Windows machine you get full QuickTime functionality.
In my opinion, the decision is still a no-brainer. QuickTime is the obvious choice for multimedia delivery.
Caveat: Do you expect any other opinion on Apple's QuickTime discussion board? Still, I think the case is pretty clear.

  • New to MacBook...question about running windows media player....

Bought my wife a new MacBook a few weeks ago....she appears to enjoy the laptop, but one thing we can't figure out.
How do we get Windows Media Player files to play when all we have is QuikTime? For example, tried watching some of the performances from 'RockStar Supernova', but only get an error.
What do we need to do so anytime we try to watch a Windows Media Player file it will default and play in QuikTime?
    Any help is much appreciated.

I am frantic. I have been up all night and feel dreadful. I am not familiar with all this stuff but am better than many people i know.
what has happened is that I downloaded Itune and the quicktime thing that went with it. Now I tunes has 'taken over'.
I cannot get if off the start menu..and quicktime too...thus taking up resources i need for other things.
but worse. Now it is Itunes that reads the cd...not media player as before (I guees I must have ticked that or it is by default) but it cannot read the CD. everything is shown as Itunes 1 or 2 etc. with file ext .cda. also impossible no to attch to an email.
I would be happy to just get read of itunes and all that is associated with it. I only downloaded it in preparation for getting an ipod but now I do not wnat anything to do with the whole thing but I cam scared to uninstall it for fear of what it might do to register.
I do not even know how to put a post on this site and have just got desperate so amy trying to email somebody who can help me.
    Please help.
I just wnat to get back to where I was before I tunes with paying penalty.

  • Windows Media Player -- please URGENT question

    Hey,
I only recently bought a macintosh computer.. it's working great and i'm very pleased with it.
There's just one thing.. i had loads of songs and thing that i used with Windows Media Player, and there was some compatibility problem so i was just wondering if there was a substitute for Windows Media Player on Macintosh ( Mac OS X 10.4.6 )
please help, I really need this soon,

For most audio files, you can use iTunes instead. For audio files that use Microsoft's DRM, you'll have to use Windows Media Player for Windows. You can also download Windows Media Player for Mac from Microsoft's website, or install the Flip4Mac plugin (which allows you to play Windows Media files in Quicktime) from the same page. Many people also recommend VLC Player.

  • Windows Media Player on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition

I have a server with Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition installed. This server is being used as a terminal server and I needed to have Windows Media Player installed in order to use a certain feature of a program running on the terminal server. After
researching online I found that all I should need to do is install the Desktop Experience feature and Windows Media Player was included in that. After installing the Desktop Experience feature and restarting the server, I was not able to find Windows
Media Player anywhere. I tried the same process on another server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with the same results.
I was curious as to if this was a Datacenter thing where it was specifically not included with Datacenter edition. I was not able to find any documentation stating that WMP was not included in Datacenter, and everything that I found stated that the feature
sets for Standard and Datacenter were the same, it was just the licensing for them was different.
Curious to see if it would get installed with Desktop Experience on Standard, I spun up a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard VM and installed Desktop Experience and sure enough WMP was installed as well. I then upgraded the Standard VM to Datacenter with a
Datacenter product key and after a restart WMP was still present.
I have also tried this exact same process with Windows Server 2012 (non R2) Datacenter edition and WMP was installed as expected, so it appears that this is only a problem with R2.
My question is, I this "works as designed" and I was just not able to find the documentation to support it or is this a bug?
Update: After doing some more playing around I noticed that if I did a clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and then installed the Desktop Experience feature and WMP does get installed. Then I remembered that on the servers that I was trying to
install WMP on and it wasn't working were upgraded from 2012 to 2012 R2. So I created a brand new VM and installed Server 2012 Datacenter (non R2), then upgraded to Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and installed Desktop Experience and sure enough, WMP did not
install. So now I really think it is a bug and it is related to the 2012 to 2012 R2 upgrade process.

  • ITunes Store files don't work with Realplayer or Windows Media Player

I tried posting a question but it did not allow me so I am going to try posting it here. I need some help but not sure where to go to post the questions or what e-mail address I can use to e-mail the appropiate place to get help so if you can help me out that would be great.
Problem 1. I won a ITunes gift card recently and set up a account and downloaded some music. Now the I just learned the file type cannot be played through Realplayer or Windows Media Player that are on my desktop nor can the tracks be put on to my MP3 player. I have deauthorized my computer and still no luck. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can do so I can do what I mentioned above? If so what?
Problem 2 - If there is no way to covert the music who do I get contact and how to go about getting a refund for the tracks purchased.
Problem 3 - Sorta linked with #2 Once I get my refund applied to my account is there away for me to cancel my account and or transfer it to a person that does have a IPOD or is able to play Itumes files on their desktop?
    Thanxs in advance.

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • Screensaver ignores settings in Windows Media Player when watching a movie...

    Hello,
Does anyone know how to resolve the problem with screensaver kicking in while watching a movie using Windows Media Player (WMP) even though I have unchecked  the option to "Allow screen saver during playback" option in WMP?
I have found that if I start Windows Media Center (WMC) first and watch TV for example or even listen to Music in WMC  and then later quit out and then load WMP to watch an avi file, after the specified time the screen saver starts up and the movie is no longer visible until i move the mouse to stop the screensaver.  I know if I reboot WMP will work fine and no Screen saver will startup, that is not until i start WMC again and then go back into WMP...

  • Windows Media Player does not recognize new downloaded songs

I have a Pavilion a4310f Prod Nr:  AY014AA-ABA running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I just discovered that Windows Media Player does not recognize songs I recently downloaded from the Wal-Mart Music Download Site.  The songs can be seen in the Music Library in a folder named "Downloads" and I can open each song and it will play when double clicked.  The problem is that I can not create a playlist containing the new songs and burn a copy of the playlist because the songs are not listed in the Media Player library no matter hot it is sorted (Artist, Album, Genre, etc).
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You might also want to consider moving the songs to my Music or the folder you have WMP set as your Music folder. You can find/change that folder in WMP by going to File ---> Manage Libraries
Launch WMP ----> Tools ----> Options --->Privacy and be sure that the Display information from the internet box is checked.

  • View Log Function on Palm TX opens in Windows Media Player, instead of a new window.

    hi,
when i clicked on "view log" after a hot sync operation a few hours ago, it brought up windows media player which, of course, could not display it. this is the first occurrence. i am using a palm tx with desktop version 4.2 and a hot sync version of 6.0.1. Strangely, view log opened up on my handheld as it has done many times. i closed the hot sync program, then opened it, and tried a hot sync--no go, media played still opened.
i'm running the palm program on an IBM Thinkpad, with windows xp pro, SP2.
thanks, in advance, for your advice.

Your computer has a File Association problem.
The HotSync log file on a PC has an extension of .htm.  Somehow, your computer has associated Windows Media Player with that type of file.
Open My Computer, then pick the Tools tab.  Choose  Folder Options, then the File Types tab.
Scroll down to the HTM file extension, and see what program is associated with it.  I'm betting it says Windows Media Player.  Tap the "Change" button, and pick the web browser program you use (mine is set to FireFox).  Click the checkmark in "Always use this program" then click OK.
    Now it should open correctly.
