Windows media player with safari for windows

Hi everyone
just a little problem of mine...
safari seems unable to detect windows media player. I get a message about 'content of MIME type application/x-mplayer2' when I safari tries to use media player. I tried installing the plugin on this page http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html which didn't seem to work. I don't know if this is a mistake but the file name suggests the plugin is for firefox...
i have also tried installing quicktime and realplayer with no effect
help appreciated; thank you in advance!

Hi on_safari,
I don't know if this is a mistake but the file name suggests the plugin is for firefox...
Safari and Firefox (and other browsers) use the same interface for handling plug-ins so Safari should be able to use it nonetheless.
I tried installing the plugin on this page http://www.apple.com/safari/download/plugins.html which didn't seem to work.
Can you describe in more detail what you mean? What did you try and what happened? Were any error messages generated?

  • Since I updated to firefox 5.0, the windows media player plug in for firefox doesnt work anymore :(

Ok I recently upgraded to firefox 5.0, and then when I went to a website that uses windows media player to watch videos and news reports, it said I needed to download the windows media player plug in for firefox. And yet I had already done that in the past. So it directs me to the plug in for windows media player 11, I download and install and it doesnt work. Website repeats the same message, you need to download plug in. It was working fine with firefox 4.0! I use the OS Windows 7, 64bit. Any help please?

Yes I did, at first it identified it as already there, so it gave the option of repairing it, etc, so I uninstalled the Windows Media Player, then Installed it again, and it still doesn't seem to work! I have the same problem with several other plug ins, in the add ons and plug in section of Mozilla tools, I see that say, "incompatible with firefox 5.0" but as days go by those add-ons, that are built by those other websites seem to be repairing it, but I wanted to know for something as important as windows media player plug in, am I the only one getting this problem? :/

  • Windows Media Player with 10.4.6

My first post here so I hope I do it right.
My question relates to using the Windows Media Player with the new Operating System. I just upgraded from v.10.2 to 10.4. Once I upgraded I was no longer able to open any files in Windows Media player. I figure,no big deal, I just need to upgrade my Media Player. I downloaded Windows Media 9 Player for Mac. Installed no problem but when I try to open I get the message "The application Windows Media Player closed unexpectedly". I then downloaded and installed Flip4Mac as well, but I got the same error messsage.
Am I just missing something obvious?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Both work here without any problem. I suspect a bad installation. Start over by first deleting these from ~/Library/Preferences/: com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist, Windows Media Favorites, Windows Media Player Prefs; these from /Library/Internet Plug-ins/: /Disabled Plug-ins/Windows Media Plugin, Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin, and Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin; and the Flip4Mac WMV.prefPane from /Library/Preference Panes/Flip4Mac WMV.prefPane, restarting, repairing permissions, reinstalling WMP and see if it launches. If so, reinstall Flip4Mac and see if that launches. If you have any problems, report back.

Pages render the same for Mac and Windows in Safari.

  • Windows Media Player 9.0 for OS X

This is more of a windows program-mac compatibility, rather than a mac program-windows compatibility (because we all know that everything apple makes is universally compatible, not so for Microsoft, which is why apple ROCKS!) but anyways...got a little sidetracked hehe: Why is it that when I try to download Windows Media Player 9.0 for OS X: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/windowsmediaplayerformacosx.html it downloads as Windows Media.sitx, which is a windows application because it is unable to open it in OS X...isn't it supposed to be FOR OS X? Any help would be great, thank you!

    Michelle,
You can download media components for QuickTime which will enable you to play WMA files through QuickTime on your Mac:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-media-components-quicktime
Alternatively, Get the free VLC player for Mac, which will play almost all media types:

If the interview requires Windows Media Player to be running to conduct the interview, then I fear you may be stuck, there is not a version of Windows Media Player for Mac - It is for Windows.  Your options in this case would be to borrow a Windows PC or install a valid copy of Windows on your MacBook under BootCamp.

  • Strobe media player with aspnet

I want to use strobe media player with my aspnet application. Can I access it on server side. I want to read one video at one time and display using strobe media player. Also I want to control current position of the video from server side. Truly it feels like I want to use Strobe media player as Windows media player in visual studio. Can anyone has some idea..please.

You can control SMP via JavaScript, so if your app can dynamically write values to the JavaScript used in the app, then you should be fine.

Does the media player plug-ins for? How can I watch videos.

No, to connect iPad to your TV, use one of the following cables:
Apple Digital AV Adapter and an HDMI cable
    Apple Component AV Cable
    Apple Composite AV Cable
Apple VGA Adapter and a VGA cable
Apple cables are available for purchase in many countries. Go to www.apple.com/store or check with your local Apple retailer.

  • When will the problem of Window Media Player Plug-in for every upgrade be ever resoled? It's getting VERY IRRITATING with every upgrade. Thank you.

With every upgrade, be it 3 or 4 and even the coming 5, many videos will hang that requires the Windows Media Player Firefox Plug-in or the LATEST Adobe Flash Player. Most plug-ins are compatible BUT not these two. Otherwise things will go smoothly.
    Thank you.

    1. Plugins aren't Mozilla's responsibility. Microsoft is responsible for the WMP plugin, which doesn't look like it is even installed in the Firefox you posted here with. You don't have the latest version of Adobe Flash AFAIK, but that is Adobe's responsibility, not Mozilla's.
    2. As far as Firefox version numbering, Firefox 4.o0 hasn't even been released yet and not even a tentative release date has been mentioned for Firefox 5.0.
Quite honestly, WMP isn't usually that big of a problem, but Flash is very problematic - enough that Steve Jobs has it banned from iOS which runs the iPhone, iPad, and deluxe iPod (whatever it's called). HTML5 is probably going to eliminate the need for the Flash Player in a few years; good riddance to bad rubbish, IMO.

  • Windows media player on safari???

I want to listen to the radio. I can do that with a stream on the website of the station but I need a plug in for windows media player

There is no Windows Media Player plugin for the iPod touch - in fact there are no plugins available for Mobile Safari at all.
Neither is there any standalone player.

  • Windows Media Player in Safari - Rosetta

There have been some videos embedded in web-sites that I have not been able to view with Safari. They are Windows Media videos that most often I have been able to access with Flip4Mac - a plug-in that translates the .wmv into QuickTime.
I now find that certain Windows videos can only be viewed when I disable Flip4Mac and go back to using Windows Media Player v. 9. However in order to do that, I have to use Safari in its Rosetta mode.
I've figured out how to do this. It's quite easy really. In case anyone is wondering: Go to Applications and Control Click on the Safari icon there. Open Get Information and check the Rosetta option. Re-start your computer and voilá - the video can now be rendered correctly. (Remember to disable Flip4Mac via System Preferences first.)
OK - but why is all this necessary? Can someone explain why doing this actually works, and how come some Windows media-made video clips are fine with the Flip4Mac conversion to QuickTime whereas others require this Safari Rosetta - WMP v.9 procedure? Moreover, besides trial and error, is there a way of knowing which method to use, when I see a link to a Windows Media video link in a web-site?
    Thanks in advance,
    ~ john

Just a follow-up. Since learning about how to run Safari in Rosetta mode - so simple really, just ctrl click on the Safari icon in the Application folder, Get Info, and as pointed out, check and de-select the Rosetta option as needed. I just want to add, that if some of you are also finding it difficult to run some Windows videos, ie .wmv - with Safari and Intel Macs, in addition to changing Safari to Roseta mode, you also need to de-select the Flip4Mac option from Systems Preferences to run those videos. Only then will Windows Media Player launch (using Rosetta Safari) and play the .wmv clips that are embedded in the webpage - and currently not viewable with Flip4Mac.
It's worked for me on countless sites I was having difficulty with before.
    Thanks everyone.

  • Windows Media Player plugin & Safari - Quicktime opens up???

Everytime I'm on a website and I click on a video clip that is a windows media player video file (wmv), the file opens up with the quicktime plug in - and the whole wmv won't play. I have to download the clip to see the whole thing in my Windows Media Player.
How do I set up Safari so it will play wmv clips with a windows media player plug in so I don't have to download a bunch of video clips that I just wanted to see on a website.

This is what you need flip4mac. Just go to the link and download it.
