Windows media stream from behind firewall

I'm hoping someone in the know can help me. I need to open a port on a
firewall, to allow Windows Media Encoder on one of our LAN workstations to
connect with a Windows Media Server on the outside of the firewall. Where
do I configure ports with Bordermanager? Do I use brdcfg.nlm? filtcfg.nlm?
Something else?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Actually this forum is for questions about the Novell Client Firewall
that ships with Border Manager 3.8 The most appropriate place for your
question is novell.support.bordermanager.packet-filtering
However to answer your question. If use a version prior to 3.7 you use
filtcfg.nlm If using 3.7 or 3.8 you use iManager.

  • Windows media stream in iTunes -- How??

I am struggling to find a way to load the following Windows Media stream (an online radio station stream) into iTunes (mms://196.35.64.36/highveld_22?WMThinning=0) -- I have an Apple TV and I'd like to stream the audio on my Mac and then have iTunes play the audio out of my TV which can be done through the Apple TV. I just can't get iTunes to play the stream at all though.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

iTunes cannot play Windows Media streams. QuickTime Player can play that stream, though, if you have the Flip4Mac codecs. You could then use Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil to send the output of QuickTime Player (or VLC Media Player) to your Apple TV.

  • Can I use quicktime to watch windows media streaming with authentication?

I everyone. I am running into a problem here. I have a Mac Book Pro and would like to watch some windows media streams. Until last month I was using Quicktime to watch them because they were not protected. But beginning on this month they implemented a security access where we need to put login and password in order to watch the stream.
If I try to acess that mms using Windows Media Player or Real Player on Windows, it opens a pop up asking for my username and password. However on my Mac Book Pro I can't get to this authentication screen using any player.
I have tried Quicktime, but also tried VLC, Real Player and Windows Media Player 9 for Mac. None of these play the mms since they started using the authentication scheme.
Can anyone help? Can I somehow authenticate to the sever and watch the mms on my Mac Book Pro? (I know I can use a Virtual Machine and watch this on Windows, but I would prefer to not depending on Windows)
    Appreciate any help!
    Denis

Sorry, I should have clarified that. MMS is the stream protocol used by Microsoft Media Services (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicrosoftMediaServices) .
I know Quicktime could run it if I have Flip4Mac installed, that's why I could watch those streams until last month. The problem started after then applied authentication to those streams. Now when I go to Quicktime, select "Open URL" option, and add the stream mms address (mms://link), it just doesn't do anything. It is something with the authentication because when there was no authentication it just worked perfectly.
Is there any way to make Quicktime authenticate to a Windows Media Server?

  • Can't play videos on Windows Media Player from Xperia z3

I have recorded som videos and while trying to load them onto my computer via USB some show up and others just play the sound without the video?
Can anyone help with this problem?

Hi Gearld, welcome to the community!
I would advise transferring the files through PC Companion using the Media Go app like Phy has suggested & also playing the videos through VLC player rather than Windows Media Player as this VLC player can read a large number of formats and is most likely to play your videos smoothly.

  • Installing Windows Media Player from the .bin format

I am trying to download WMP. I just downloaded it through the apple site but when I downloaded it the file was in the .bin format, titled "WindowsMediaInstaller.bin". I then tried to open this file with stuffit, and this produced another file titled "Windows Media.sitx". I am unsure about how to open this file to complete the installation.
    Thanks!!!

  • Error line 68 in DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP when trying to debug from behind firewall

    Hello!
I am using sqldeveloper on a windows client, connecting to an Oracle 10.1.0.4 database on AIX 5.3 behind our internal firewall. No sweat, I have an sql*net "hole" through the firewall to the database listener.
But when trying to debug a PL/SQL procedure, the debugging session cannot start but gets the following errors:
ORA-30683: failure establishing connection to debugger
ORA-12535: The requested operation could not be completed within the time out period.
The cause is readily seen in one of sqldeveloper's own windows, namely that the procedure call
    CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '192.168.205.143', '1290' )
fails. Our internal firewall quite rightly doesn't allow a connection from "any port" on the database server to "any port" on my PC.
Is there any workaround for this issue, short of trying to get my security officer to open up so that "any port" on the database server can connect to "any port" on my windows client? I can change "debug preferences" in sqldeveloper to point to only one port on my windows client, but since I cannot control what port on the server the DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP procedure chooses when it tries to connect to my client, that is only a halfway solution as I see it.

Wrong install Disc, that one is machine specific, & doubtful a reinstall will help all that much.
More RAM will likely help, but not awfully likely it'll be 50%.

  • HomeHub 2, Xbox360 and media streaming from ReadyN...

OK, I'm fed up and perplexed with this one. I've had kit in the subject hooked up for a little while now. LAN is wireless and the NAS is hardwire connected to the hub. My PC can access the data on the NAS wirelessly absolutely fine.
I was under the impression that I should be able to access the media from my Xbox wthout the PC serviing the content via another app. In fact until yesterday I'd pretty much given up.
Then yesterday, I tried again - and lo and behold I was playing music and movies via my Xbox to TV and Hi-Fi, wirelessly, and no PC serving the content. On the Xbox guide, it could "see" the NAS by name, and list all media contents. Lovely!
This morning, the Xbox can't even see the NAS.
What's changed? nothing. Both devices have merely been powered off overnight. I've restarted console and hiub. No difference.
Can someone, somewhere, explain what is going on here?
If there is some config of the hub settings I can modify I'd happily try.
Ideally I'd like some direct help from BT tech support on this, but would welcome any solid advice from other customers too.
    thanks

    Numb3r6 wrote:
    Thanks once more
After changing router settings to fixed IPs for devices, that is behaving ok. I've now also told the NAS to mirror that fixed IP setting. All seems ok there too. However the Xbox still cannot see it as a network resource, whereas my PC can see the NAS content just fine. I think the issue is somewhere in the UPnP/DLNA mix between the NAS and console. Oddly enough when I went to the NAS forum, I can stilll see some of my earlier messages where there are plenty of reads, and no useful replies! I might post once more as I cannot believe I am the only person in the UK with that BT hub, Xbox and NAS!
Was going to suggest twonky but have been beaten to it however, I had a similar problem and discovered what I had done was share a root folder, it wasn't the fact that the ps3 and xbox couldn't see the nas box, it actually couldn't 'see' the share. To solve this I created a folder say media created a subfolder called media shared that then added folders for pictures, video and music.
But I think that twonky would be the best solution and turn your nas into a media centre.

  • Launch Windows Media Player - from a HTML snippet

    Hi Guys
anyone got the HTML code to launch WMP from an iWeb Snippet, I can launch QT as a seperate player and play my media (movies etc) from a Snippet, but I'm having problems tracking down the code to launch WMPlayer - I'm developing a local intranet site, and most if not all have PC's - shame as QT is far superior to WMP and just works - it does what it says on the tin -
    thanks for ya help

Roddy has some tips on that: convert to flash or use an html snippet to add the QT file. Why, the snippet I don't know. You can peruse his site here for his tips:

  • Client issues from behind firewall (login delays)

I have a Novell 6.0 server outside the firewall and am beginning to set
up clients on the inside of the firewall. There appears to be no
issues with the outside clients connecting to the outside server.
However I am having strange issues with the inside clients
authenticating to the outside server. (all clients are WinXP)
If I do not sit for at least 10 seconds at the novell login screen on
the client at first boot-up before attempting to login, the client will
fail. If I try again after that, it goes right in. If I do wait for
the 10 seconds, the client authenticates the first time.
If I put an IP address in the server name field of the login dialog
box (instead of the servers FQDN) the client authenticates the first
    time.
Has anyone seen this before or know where to begin looking? There does
not appear to be a delay issue with the DNS server, as once the desktop
is up all web browsing and pings respond quickly.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • Prepositioning windows media content with centrally managed CDM and CEs

We have recently installed a configuration of Cisco CEs and one CDM (model 566) to support windows media streaming from our intranet IIS/Windows Media servers. We have configured routers in area locations to transparently re-route WMT requests to a locall CE. We are trying to preposition windows media content from our web servers to the CEs. We have configured a device group for a channel associated with each web/windows media server but are UNABLE to get any content replicated down to the CEs. The failure begins with the root CE. I have tried content channels requests by IP number and specific wmv references within the WIndows Media publishing point, using mms protocol, by FQDN with publishing points and specific single file references and by FQDN crawl jobs. Nothing is working. I am able to open up specific wmv files using the same paths within a windows media client or IE browser with no problem.
IS there something special to be done here? The configuration is for on-demand--not multicast access--and I have only tried using the CDM's gui interface to set up the job--no manifest file.
This should be easy but it is proving to be very frustrating and Cisco CE support has not id'd the issue. Is it an authentication issue between the root CE and web/WM server? something else?

thanks, believe or not, I'm just now getting back to this issue due to a prolonger issue affecting all of our Content Devices that I won't bore you with....anyway, do you know whether the newer versions of ACNS, spec. 5.5.5 fix this issue...currently running 5.3.5

  • Problem streaming from Windows Media Center to XBOX 360 with Airports?

    Good evening,
I have been having an issue trying to stream windows media center from my windows 7 ultimate (64 bit if that helps) to my Xbox 360. My network setup is:
I have an airport extreme (G) that is plugged into my cable modem and my windows 7 machine. In my living room I have an airport express that extends my wireless signal through out the house but my xbox 360 is plugged into it via ethernet. I have a very fast internet connection that is stable but any transfer between my computer and xbox is very limited it seems. I was wonder if there is a way to get this to work better. When I lunch windows media center on the xbox it sees my pc and it shows the available files but when I try and move from one to the other nothing happens and eventually I get a can't connect error. Would I be better off not connecting via ethernet to the airport express and just buying a wireless adapter?
    Thanks

You don't say how your devices are connected, whether through your Verizon router or some other way.  If through, say, an Actiontec then you may be having bottleneck issues.  I used to run all my devices through my Actiontec and got poor transfer speeds (it only handles 10/100).  Moving everything on my network to a 10/100/1000 switch helped my transfer speeds to shoot right up ten fold.  This way only the switch gets connected to my Actiontec and my network devices can still get out on the 'net if needed.
It's ok to try to reinvent the wheel, but just make sure it's round.
