Windows Media Won't Start Up - Big Error Message - wmploc.dll, etc

"Error" message when trying to open up Windows Media Player:
"The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 12.0.7601.18150 where
12.0.7601.17514 was expected.
Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to reinstall the Player from the Microsoft web site?"
I click on "yes" and go to the site.
Many reinstall attempts fail everytime. The WMP seems to download and install properly, but always get same red circle X box message
This is where MS takes me:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/download-windows-media-player
Thank you very much in advance for your help,
Jim

Hi,
From the error message, it indicates the version of wmp.dll is out of sync with what is set in the Windows registry.
Please attempt to fix it through the steps below:
Reboot your system.
Open cmd.exe as an administrator by selecting Start/All Programs/Accessories.
Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
Type in unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
Press enter.

  • ITunes won't start up, no error message, appears in task manager

    Hi,
I have been running this system since quite a while and haven't had problems with iTunes for a while. I updated to the recent version not to long ago and it worked then once or twice, I even bought a game for the iPod (Tetris)...
Now iTunes doesn't start up anymore. I haven't installed anything new and I am virus free.
I try to launch iTunes and but the UI will not appear. I can see that it's loaded (or stuck somewhere) as the application is in the processes tab in the task manager and doesn't disappear.
Obviously I did the usual: curse a lot, removing everything incl. any traces of quicktime and itunes in the reg, 'application data' folders, the mysterious 'My Music' directory in my docs, reinstalling different versions of iTunes and quicktime, running hijack-this to see what processes I can't recognise, curse even more (**** MS monopoly) and reading a lot on the net and on this particular website.
There are holes in my firewall to accomodate iTunes. I use Sophos anti-virus software (not becasue I chose too).
Is there anything you could recommend?
Reinstalling windows is really not an option here, as I use this computer for work too.
I also use Linux on a seperate partition (Fedora 7), but I know that there were issues with iPod support on Linux and it once broke the whole **** database. Maybe Apple can one day release some software for Linux users? Afterall OS X is just a unix based OS anyways...
Please help, I wasted so much time on this already

    Hi, dengar.
Let's try to get an idea of what might be going on by running through b noir's "smack" for iTunes launch failures.
Based on your original post, I'm going to bypass some of the preliminary questions and make the following assumptions - if any of these assumptions are wrong, post back and we'll follow a different path.
    Assumptions -
    1) There is no error message associated with your iTunes launch failure.
    2) QuickTime itself launches on your computer without any problems.
    3) When you reboot your computer and attempt to launch iTunes, iTunes.exe appears and remains in the Processes list.
If those assumptions are all true, I'd refer you to this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.

  • Downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, worked fine, Turned computer on today, Mozilla Firefox, it won't start. Get error message, Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion =5.0.1 maxVersion =5.0.1" What do I need to do to fix it?

We downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, began working with it. It did fine. After about an hour, I turned off my computer. When I turned on my computer, I click on Mozilla Firefox and it won't start. I get this error message, " Error: Platform version '5.0' is not compatible with minVersion >=5.0.1 maxVersion <=5.0.1" from XUL Runner. What do I need to do to fix it?

The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions.<br />
    Do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • ITunes won't start after upgrade--error message

When I launched iTunes after upgrading to 6.0.1, I got the following message after agreeing to the usual legal terms:
"The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder."
    Any suggestions?

    Jeff,
Thank you for the reply and your suggestions.
Yes, I did take a look in the Music folder--and no, the file was not there. I then used Spotlight and did find an iTunes Music folder, but when I tried to copy it to the Music folder I got error message -36, saying that parts of the file weren't readable and, therefore, not copyable.
I also used my disk utility to repair permissions and re started the computer---with the same results.
I'm not sure what else to try and may take my computer to my local expert.
    best,

  • Premiere CS6 won't start. Getting error message.

I am getting this error message:
The procedure entry point ? DrawPixels@DC@UIF@@QEAAXPEBXHHHV?$ParamPoint@VCPoint@@@ASL@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library UIFramework.dll.
My computer crashed and I had to reload Windows 7... fresh install and then have to reload all my programs. Photo Shop CS6 opens okay, but Premiere does not. Any ideas what I need to do?

Wasn't able to wipe the drive myself... computer probably has a virus that is preventing me from doing this. Took the computer in to my computer guy in Reading to have a clean install done on the c drive. Also, I have been editing for a an ad agency client on their CS6 system... the first job I did for them, I exported the CS6 edit file to a usb thumb drive and brought it to my computer to make a very minor change to an edit done by their inhouse video editor (he had been let go). Long story short... in a 3 minute video the timeline was nested... and clicking on the nested sequence took me to another sequence that had multiple nested files... clicking on them did not take me to another sequence! There where 11 different sequences for this 3 minute video and none of the other sequences linked to anything... which is why I took it to my office and re-edited the 3-minute video on ONE timeline! Still not sure why this editor had nested everything... very strange way to edit what was esssentially was an interview... person answering 3- questions... with a transition which was basically the question on the screen followed by the interviewee's answer! Since doing this edit I have had issues with my computer. In the meantime I have been editing some videos for this agency and their computer was having issues including freezing and not being able to open the task manager to shut down CS6 after a freeze. I would have to just shut the computer off to re-boot! The last edit I did for them last week took 6 hours to do something that should have taken 3 hours at the most.

  • XP Mode won't start. Gives Error Message; The requstd Op cannot b compltd becs the Terminal Connectn is currently busy processing a connect operation.

Hi Bob. I found this thread from quite a while ago. I attempted to delete the .vsv file but it was in use by vpc.exe. Once I killed that process I was able to delete the .vsv file (Almost 600Mb). But when I launch the Virtual Machine after deleting the .vsv,
I still get the error and that .vsv file (same size) is back where it was. Am I doing something wrong? Its almost like it is pulling that file back from somewhere. Thank you in advance for your time.
    John Woelz

    Hello,
deleting the .vsv file is just a temporary fix for a virtual machine that's
stuck in an indeterminate state.  It's basically like pulling the power
    plug on a real PC.
The .vsv gets created again anytime you start XP Mode.
It sounds like your problem may be more that something is blocking the
communications with XP Mode.  Perhaps a firewall or antivirus product.  You
could try disabling those temporarily to see if it makes any difference.
There's also a couple RDP updates that don't play nice with XP Mode, but it
doesn't sounds like that's the exact same problem.  It's KB2592687, and you
can try uninstalling that to see if it helps.

  • POWER MAC G5 WON'T START !! error message: panic: we're hanging here

I recently made an update (several apps were listed with available updates(I was using tiger 10.4.10), next thing that happened (after the update was successfully completed) , a gray screen saying I should restart
my mac. When I did, I couldn't get into my OS!! instead a long list of techy messages appeared on the screen and the last one read: "panic...we're hanging here"
please help I'm supposed to edit an important video and now this happened!!! I read on another forum I should use my restore dvd something like that but I bought this machine on ebay, and it came with many CD's I don't know which is which, right now, what I did is that I put the tiger installation DVD, So I might re-install the whole OS...but I don't know if this is right (aren't I supposed to erase the damaged os first?)
Anyway I hope you can help me, I'm new at mac and I don't want to mess up my computer

First I would try a Disk Repair with Disk Utility, while booted on your Tiger disk.
    Apple doc.#106214 covers this subject.
It sounds like you had a Kernel Panic, as shown in Apple doc.#106227.
If the Disk Repair doesn't do it, FJ has some good KP tips.
Or, do everything, in order, in Dr.Smokes Resolving Kernel Panics and don't leave out any steps (most used KP site in the forums).
Quote from Dr.Smoke "My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein"
    Cheers!

  • I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format"

I have restored my iPod classic and everything has been wiped off, now when I connect it to the laptop, iTunes doesn't recognise it and windows won't format it, an error message comes up "unable to format". Can someone please help me sort this problem, it's so frustrating!!!!!!

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

I cannot install Creative Suite 5.5 on my Windows 7 Professional. I keep getting error message: "Exit Code: 15 - Media DB sync failed". I have disabled UAC and Startup items and Services with no luck. Can you please help?

I am sorry Erickkasner but there is no longer direct support provided for Creative Suite 5.5 installation issues.
You are welcome to post any specific errors you are able to discover within your installation log to this discussion.  Since you are using Windows then Exit Code 15 could mean one of the following:
    Installer database is corrupted
Update pending to your operating system
Improper permissions set for the Media.db
The installation log file should provide additional insight into the exact error you are experiencing.  Please make sure to use the find command to look for the words 'ERROR' and 'FATAL' to locate the relevant error messages.

  • Windows 7 Won't Start Up from Boot Camp

I got a new 21.5" iMac and set up a boot camp partition for a Windows 7 64-bit installation. It worked. I installed the latest boot camp drivers into the Windows 7, which was wonderful because it fixed the display to match my iMac's specs. Then I installed the latest Parallels 5 and had it recognize that Windows 7 system, and have been using it without problem. But I tried this evening to use boot camp to start up the Windows 7 system by itself and although I got a choice of Mac OS or Windows via the option-startup process, and selected the Windows startup, Windows 7 won't start up that way. I just get a black screen with a blinking white horizontal line in the upper-left corner. I keep waiting but it never gets past this. Tried turning it off and starting again, still no luck. Booted back into Mac side and Parallels VM of the installation still works.
Any help appreciated. I should still be able to boot into Windows 7 straight using boot camp, no?

I should add that I just installed 8GB of RAM to the 4GB the iMac came with. Possibly now that the total machine has a 12GB of RAM the Windows 7 system is confused and can't start up?

    Hi,
reboot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option key to get a Selection Screen on which you can choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
