Windows Mobile 5.0 and PEAP

We have successfully configured a group of 1200 series access points to use PEAP. I have installed a puplic Thawte certificate on ACS and configured group policy in Active Directory to issue certificate and set wireless settings. All of this works great with XP. I am now trying a Dell Axim running Windows Mobile. This handheld uses the Odyssey client and has all the required PEAP settings. This device works fine if configured with LEAP. I am getting an error on ACS "EAP-TLS or PEAP authentication failed during SSL handshake" .Since this handhelp and OS is not a domain member how does the machine authentication take place? I have tried creating AD accounts that match the device name, I have tried creating local ACS users that match the device name and nothing seems to matter. I am also not clear how the handheld knows how to deal with the certificate from ACS. I purposely purchased and installed a certificate from a well known CA so that the trusted Roots would be in the handheld so we would not need to deal with importing Root certificates from our internal CA. Also I should say we are running ACS version 3.3 and the latest 1200AP firmware.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Well an update on this issue. I am not able to get the PPC to connect with WPA and TKIP. It either get's and SSL handshake or fails machine authentication. The only way I can get this to work is to add a local account in ACS and supply the ACS username and password to get it to authenticate.
I realize that the PPC or Windows mobile device cannot be a domain member therfor mapping to a machine name in Active Directory would be a challenge. Is there any way to get these devices to access a domain username and password? I have tried creating dummy domain account for the machine name but it does not seem to matter. I have also tried creating a dummy machine account in ACS but that does not work either. Does anybody have PPC or Windows Mobile devices authenticating using ACS and Active directory? Any help appreciated.

  • Remote Desktop Connection between Windows Mobile 6.5 and server 2012

    Hi all,
We have problem with remote desktop connection. The server that I want to connect is 2012 R2.
We have no trouble with server 2008. I searched from internet, there are solutions on server side(I am not sure if these suggestions solve the problem), but our customers don’t want to solve this problem
on server side because it is diffucult and risky.
Is there a solution on handheld terminal side to do?
Operating system: WM 6.5 classic(Professional o.s. has no effect, same error continues)
Any help will be appreciated from your side.
    With Best Regards.

    Hi,
What is the precise error message you are seeing?  What are the exact symptoms?
I don't remember what version of RDP/featureset is supported by Windows Mobile 6.5.  Perhaps the client does not support Network Level Authentication, which is required by default on Server 2012 R2.  You can enable non-NLA connections by
unchecking Allow connections only from computers with Network Level Authentication in Server Manager -- RDS -- Collections -- Properties of collection -- Security tab.
Lack of NLA may not be the cause of the issue you are experiencing, however, if it is the only way to solve it would be to change the server setting or to potentially install a new client on the device that supports NLA.

  • Windows Mobile PDA WiFi and Palm Pre Plus Hotspot

I can't get my PDA, which is running Windows Mobile 5, to connect securly with my Palm Pre Plus.  I can make the WiFi connection if the hotspot is set to open, but if the hotspot is set to wpa/wpa2 personal the connection doesn't happen.  Does anyone know what settings are required in the network setup area on the PDA to make the secure connection work?

Try doing a system update.  The steps are below.
From the Home screen, touch the launcher icon.
    Touch Updates.
If necessary, swipe horizontally or vertically to locate the application.
    Touch Download now.
    Touch Install now.
    Touch Done.
    Hope this helps!

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 and Windows Media Player URL Problem

Is anyone having a problem playing videos or music by URL (Menu/Library/Menu/Open URL)?
I am trying to open an audio only HTTP URL at port 8080. If I use the IP based URL (example: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080), I get a "Cannot Find the File" error message. If I use a DNS based URL (example: http://abc.xyz.com:8080), I get a "The parameter is Incorrect" error message. Both URLs are verified to work on XP desktops on both DSL & cable modem networks.

  • Windows Mobile Device Center no longer supported?

I have a customer that has some Motorola Windows Mobile 6.5 devices.   They were trying to get their devices connected to their PCs with Windows Mobile Device Center and were running into problems.  They contacted Microsoft Tech support and were
told that the Windows Mobile Device Center is no longer a supported product.  Is there any truth to that?  How the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS still be supported but the Windows Mobile Device Center is not?  Their IT team will not let them install/use
    Windows Mobile Device center now.

  • Adobe Air on Windows Mobile 5.0

    Hello,
Are Air Apps supported in Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Symbian ?  If yes what needs to be done to install them on these platforms ? Is Flashlite sufficient ?
Also, is there a automatic online/offline synchronization mechanism between server and disconnected databases ? Or does it have to be explicitely coded ?
    Thanks,
    Prajor.

No, AIR is not supported on mobile operating systems right now. Adobe has publicly demonstrated Flash Player 10 running on some of these mobile device operating systems (WinMo and I think Symbian), and Palm recently signed on to the Open Screen Project.
Also, is there a automatic online/offline synchronization mechanism between server and disconnected databases ? Or does it have to be explicitely coded ?
There is nothing built into AIR for online/offline database synchronization. I believe Adobe LiveCycle Data Services has some tools for supporting that, but I don't know much more beyond that.

  • Sync Windows Mobile Treo 750 with Vista 64 bit, FINALLY DID IT!

I have just spent 3 hours trying to set up sync between my Treo 750 and my new Vista 64-bit computer.  Here's what I learned:
You have to download the Windows Mobile Device Center and its update (that's why some people felt they were downloading twice).  Even after the second download, it still didn't work, so I was told to uninstall both, then I was directed to the following link, where it only had to download once -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
Once I did that, I kept getting an error message that my device was not recognized, and the mobile device center
said the device was not connected (and the proposed solution on the computer was to replace the device).  I tried the things that others have mentioned on this forum, but it still did not work.  After talking with AT&T, they suggested I do a soft reset on the phone.  That is what finally worked for me EXCEPT that each time my phone "timed out" (the display went blank), it would say it was not connected again.  I finally kept touching the screen so the display would not go blank.  Another option is to change the amount of time it will stay on before timing out, which I may do if this continues to be a problem when I sync in the future.
I hope this information helps someone else along the way.  It has been quite a frustrating process, as are many other things when transitioning to a new computer.

    Hello Everybody.
I downloaded the trial first, which was limited in that no video conversion could be carried out.  Bit of a waste of time as far as writing a review on the software was concerned so I purchased the full version using the link on the trial screen...

  • Alert Box Displayed twice in response AJAX on Windows Mobile 2003

    Hi,
I'm using AJAX in my application. In the inital page of app, I request by AJAX a one verification and in the response is displayed a alert box.
Windows Mobile 5.0 shows perfectly this alert box. But on Windows Mobile 2003, is displayed two alert box with the same response.
    AnyIdea?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Bruno

    Hi Bruno Ambrozio ,
Just to understand AJAX's Open() method...
We use open() method before sending the request to the server and this takes 3 arguments.
    - The first argument defines which method to use when sending the request  (GET  or POST).
      - The second, specifies the URL of the server-side script.
    -  The third, specifies that the request should be handled asynchronously.
Since your problem was solved by changing the third argument may be the server action and the local script action are not synchronous coz of the variation of the processing speed in Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 2003...
    Cheers,

  • Windows Mobile 5.0 not connecting to files on servers hosted on Windows 2008

We recently upgraded our servers from Windows server 2003 to windows server 2008 and 2012. While on WM server 2003, we were using a PDA system that operates on Windows Mobile 5.0, since  our upgrade, we  are not able to connect
to any files on the servers using Windows 2008 or 2012.
Through a ping test of the server's IP address, it shows that the mobile device is connected to the server but it cannot communicate/access the folder/files in that server.
Is this a firewall or security issue ?
Is this is a compatiblily issue of Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows server 2008/ 2012?
What are the possible solutions for this issue?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry to inform you but as per my research, Windows Mobile 5.0 doesn’t allow the connection to server 2008\2012.
Thanks for your understanding and support!

  • WRT54GXv2 Won't Allow Windows Mobile 5 Device to Connect

Using the WRT54GX as a WAP with DHCP and NAT turned off.  Installed latest firmware earlier today.  DHCP is being supplied by a SonicWall SOHO 3.  Both PC's and MAC's can connect wirelessly (WEP 128 bit key) but my new T-Mobile MDA phone tries to connect but then drops.  I verified the WIFI on the phone works by connecing to a T-Mobile WIFI Zone at Borders books earlier today.
Is there an issue with Windows Mobile 5 devices and the WRT54GXv2?  Is there a workaround?
    Thanks!

Try to configure the router this way:
Connecting a Wireless Linksys router to a regular Ethernet Linksys Router
Now since you are issuing DHCP on a Sonicwall SOHO3, make sure your router is on that range instead of the router IP on the directions on that link. Goodluck! Remember it's from a regular port from Sonic wall to a regular port on the WRT54GX..
