Windows Mobile Device Center no longer supported?

I have a customer that has some Motorola Windows Mobile 6.5 devices.   They were trying to get their devices connected to their PCs with Windows Mobile Device Center and were running into problems.  They contacted Microsoft Tech support and were
told that the Windows Mobile Device Center is no longer a supported product.  Is there any truth to that?  How the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS still be supported but the Windows Mobile Device Center is not?  Their IT team will not let them install/use
Windows Mobile Device center now.

I think this is what you need. you can find the Microsoft product support lifecycle in here:

  • How to run windows mobile device center via remote desktop

I am developing mobile application in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. I connect to my computer via remote desktop and my operating system is Windows Server 2012 R2. In order to test the application, I use mobile device emulator. I can run device emulator but
there occurs a problem when I try to cradle the device. I found out that this is because wmdc cannot run via remote desktop. Is there any way to run wmdc via remote desktop? I searched other topics but there is no solution to this.
Note : WMDC works when I directly use the computer not with remote desktop.

    Hi Omer,
Please check this thread to see if there is one solution may solve your problem.

  • Not Connecting To Windows Mobile Device Center

I want to be able to connect with a Windows Mobile Device through Windows Mobile Device Center, within a Virtual Machine.  When connecting through the Hyper-V Manager and through Remote Desktop, under "Other supported RemoteFX USB devices",
I can see the Symbol USB Sync Cradle.  In the VM, in Device Manager, I don't see a USB connection.  In the VM, I don't see any meaningful errors in the Event Viewer.
Host:  Windows 8.1 Enterprise Hyper-V on a Domain.  Upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro.  When this computer was originally installed with Windows 8 Pro, Hyper-V was enabled.  I removed Hyper-V, and installed VMWare Player, because I wanted
USB Pass-through.  I then uninstalled VMWare and installed VirtualBox.  Recently, I uninstalled VirtualBox, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and enabled Hyper-V.
Virtual Machine OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 on a Workgroup.  Started out with being a VMWare VM, using VMWare Player.  Moved to VirtualBox.  USB Pass-through was working in both those virtual environments.  Used Disk2VHD to convert the
    VM to a VHDX file.
    On the Host:
Windows Mobile Device Center is connected to a Motorola Windows Mobile Device (MC959X) sitting in a Symbol USB Cradle.  The OS on the scanner is Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 Classic CE OS 5.2.29217 (Build 29217.5.3.12.26).  Advanced Networking
(USB to PC) is not enabled.
    Enabled RemoteFX.
In the RDP file, and in the Registry, added the GUID's for:

Thank you for your efforts. I have followed those instructions, but I am still not all the way there yet.
Now, on the Guest, in the Device Manager, under Mobile Devices, I see the Symbol USB Sync.  But Windows Mobile Device Center still does not connect.

If I click on the Bluetooth icon in the control panel I don't see the bluetooth device of my notebook.

Vista Mobile Device Center support is currently not included. It should be implemented in one of the coming versions.

  • 700w not recognized by Vista with windows mobile device center

    please help:
i have a treo 700w that doesn't want to consistently connect to machine I am working on. when it works (rarely), it works fine, when it doesn't there is no explanation. I have restarted both computer and phone, and I can't seem to get a connection made.
Further I tried to uninstall/reinstall the windows mobile device center, i have removed the sync profiles on both my computer and phone, but nothing is seeming to work. I find it interesting that vista recognized my Smartphone USB device (it shows in the device manager), but that windows mobile device center doesn't show that anything is connected.
I am connecting via USB, but would be happy to connect via bluetooth, but when i try that approach, it only offers headset/wireless stereo (i'm looking for calendar/contacts/etc).
any direction would be wonderful - i have searched in google and subsequent pages for an hour already, and I'm thinking someone must have a better way.
    Thanks,
    -cb
PS - for those who are forum administrators, the registration process sucks: the password limitations are oddly strong for a simple forum like this, and when you don't put in a proper password from the get-go, it clears your prior selection of device/os/agreement registration, so when you fix the red flags (the password) and submit, it (and only then) tells you that you've forgotten to answer the questions below (that you had already answered before you were thwarted by the password reqs). sigh.

    Hi AlanG,
I have tried multiple USB connections, and do not have another sync cable. No luck.
Though, your post gave me an idea and that was to use a safety pin to scrape the contacts at the bottom of the phone. I keep the phone in my pocket most of the time, so there was some visible grime, though i would have guessed that the connection could have been made (it wasn't that grimy, just not shiny).
The other thing that was interesting is that when it was plugged in previous to the cleaning it shows the device connected to be a " smartphone usb sync ". Post cleaning, it now shows as a " PocketPC ". I'm not sure what the difference is, nor if I should be hoping that it reads "treo 700w", but hey, can't look a gift horse in the mouth, right?
So, that, in addition with removing all partnerships on both the machine and the treo (and after restarting my phone) it finally connected.
Wow. What a remarkable pain.  Let's hope it keeps working.

  • Windows Mobile Device Center fails to open on Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines

    Hello,
Our domain based machines cannot open Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows 7 and Windows Vista). You click the application and nothing happens. There are no errors in the Event Viewer that relate. In Task Manager I do NOt see any processes that look related
to Windows Mobile Device Center. Our Group Policy Objects are very lean and limited, and we do not have any policies that specify how Windows Mobile Device Center should behave. The only GPO that I could think would interfere with this is to prevent malware
and viruses, we have disabled Autoplay on removable devices.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks!

  • Uploading data from a windows mobile device to a server using GPRS

I want to upload data from a java application in pda (a Windows Mobile 6.1 device) to a server using a GPRS connection. My application uses a IBM weme VM.
I want to know whether I can do this in Java itself, because otherwise I would have to resort to some C++ methods(that uses the connection manager api) and call that using jni. But if there is some java method for this,it would have been helpful and straightforward..
Can I do this using socket connection in java? if so, Would somebody provide a code snippet ?Which port to connect to in that case?
Plz let me know about this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey forum....
When I dock my Windows Mobile device in a Windows 7 PC, the Windows Mobile Device Center opens and I can browse the device and copy files between it and the PC. However, I'm looking some kind of way to automate this process. All I'm really interested in
is a single file named TEXT.TXT which is stored in the My Documents folder. Basically, I'm looking for a script that will detect the Windows device (it's USB-attached) when docked, find the file TEXT.TXT in the My Documents folder and then copy this file to
the /Temp folder on the desktop.
I've tried using the synchronization feature of WMDC but it copies the file to a documents folder set up for the specific device. Instead, I'm looking to find and copy the file to C:\TEMP regardless of the device.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Just configure the device to sync the folders you want to sync.  Start by reading the help very carefully.
This is not a scripting question and this forum is not for end user questions.   I suggest posting in the Windows Phone forum.

Good afternoon,I am trying to get the WM Device Emulator to function on my Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine. I have tried quite a few things and am still stuck on the issue. This is a new install which is where the problem is. I am installing Windows Mobile Device Center (for Windows Vista, because there is no such copy for Windows 7) andWindows Mobile 6.5 Professional Developer Tool Kit. Once installed, I go into WMDC and adjust the connection settings to "Allow connections to the following: DMA" and uncheckmark USB. going into WM device manager and pulling up the Emulator I am able to see something to connect to, when I go to cradle the device, nothing happens.I have installed and uninstalled these applications multiple times, going as far as installing Visual Studio 2015, which still didn't resolve a problem. I have also tried downloading...

  • How to install the JRE that comes with JME 3.0 to a Windows Mobile device

    From Sun's JME download page:
Integration with 3rd party emulators and Windows Mobile devices
The new Java ME Platform SDK architecture allows integration of 3rd party emulators and devices. Java ME Platform SDK comes with Sun's Java runtime environment for Windows Mobile. A user can install this runtime on a Windows Mobile device or a Microsoft device emulator and experience all the on-device features of Java ME Platform SDK.*
My question is, how can I install the Java runtime environment that comes with Java ME Platform SDK 3.0 to a Windows Mobile device. I am a newbie in this device programming and I'm setting up my development environment. So far, I have installed JME in my computer, and have also installed both the Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 emulator. I've been searching the internet for answers, but it always points me to using a third party java runtime such us Mysaifu, etc. I would like to stick with what is packaged with JME if possible.
If anybody assist me or direct me to an online documentation on how to do this. All help is greatly appreciated :-)

I had some success installing on a real Mobile 5 device [http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5344195]
There is a link to a doc on the main download page, item 5 under How to Install. [http://java.sun.com/javame/downloads/sdk30ea.jsp] I used this for the real device, Treo 700w. Did not try it with an emulator.
The support looks to be an emulator rather than a JVM per say. But then again I could be wrong on that. I too had poked around looking for a JVM, CrEme, J9, etc..
I do have a commercial app installed on the Treo that uses IBM's J9, which is seems requires a contact with a sales person to get ahold of. I had hoped to find something that might clue me in on how to "hook up" my own J2ME app with the J9 installed by the commercial package. But I've pretty much decided to get a real J2ME handset rather than continue to waste my time hacking up something with WM. Now the question is which one makes a good reference platform?
