Windows Modules Installer - Error 1450 Insufficient System Resources

I've run into a major problem with the release of Windows 7 Enterprise.  It seems that somewhere along the line after installing my applications, the Windows Modules Installation Service has decided to stop working.
When trying to start the service through Services Management I get the following:  "Windows could not start the Windows Modules Installer service on Local Computer.  Error 1450: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service."
This means that Windows Update doesn't find updates, sysprep fails, and I get a blank list for "Turn Windows features on or off".
Can anyone help?
(update: After testing with some clean installs of Windows 7 Enterprise, it looks like the problem happens after installing ArcGIS Arcinfo Workstation 9.3.  Uninstalling did not fix it.)

i hope this gets posted to the thread - if not i apologize, this is my first post on here.
Let me just say this - i've been a Microsoft guy for like... over 20 years now, but I have to say this year this whole platform has really seemed to fall apart for me on so many levels, and when i have the best equipment money can buy its a bit of a let
down to say the least.
Short version is - i tried the above and it didn't work, and i'm getting this Windows Modules Installer constantly trying to run and its failing repeatedly for no known reason... i suspect maybe tied to my backups which are microsoft windows based as well.
This fix above DID NOT work for me unfortunately - i set the limit, did the reboot and still can't run SFC /SCANNOW - it fails with same error and still having the same errors in the System Log - its 7036 and 7023 alternating one after the other nonstop
it appears, every 30 seconds.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
cnorton3
PS: just to note, i DO NOT have ArcGIS installed / funny enough i do know what the software is but i do not (and never have) used/installed it.

    Hi,
I am facing an issue while loading fresh data into SQL server database.
we are able to load data into staging area, but while processing stored procedures system face bellow error message :
[823] [HY000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The operating system returned error 1450(Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.) to SQL Server during a write at offset 0x00000243bd0000 in file 'E:\SQLDB\DBName.mdf'.
Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC
CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online.
we use windows 2008 R2 with SQL server managment studio 2008.
    Appreciate your suggestion.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Manorath

    Hi Manorath,
Based on my research, this issue can be occurred in the following scenarios:
You are running a DBCC command on a large database. For example, you are running the DBCC CHECKDB statement on the database. At the same time, you run many DML statements on the database.
You create a database snapshot for a large database. At the same time, you are running many DML statements on the database.
In these scenarios, the SQL Server service stops responding. The DBCC CHECK statement is never completed, and you receive the error message repeatedly.
This issue occurs because the sparse file for a database snapshot file has exceeded the file size limitation in NTFS file system. When the operating system error 1450 occurs, SQL Server enters an infinite retry loop.
To fix this issue, please download and install Cumulative update package 1 for SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. Besides, because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous
SQL Server 2008 fix release. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix.

  • PR_Accept() failed, error -5974 (Insufficient system resources.)

How can I go about determining exactly which resource was insufficient? Or has anyone encountered this and has an idea of typical reasons?
With about 1000 connections this morning, I saw this in the log:
PR_Accept() failed, error -5974 (Insufficient system resources.)
    Our setup:
    iPlanet Directory Server 5.1
HPUX platform - 6 gigs ram, dual 100mb nics, plenty of disc space.

Thanks Gary. I was going to set the ulimit and the hard and soft limits on the OS. I had done this before on a Solaris system, but with HP, I'm not sure where the equivalent of /etc/system is. I may have to check with our HP guys.
BTW, here's the output of idsktune. I don't see any warnings for only 64 threads being available. We are going to try 5.2 Patch 4, but we cannot apply it in this environment yet -- still doing a POC. Thanks!

  • Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service

[I did intend to start this post with a screenshot of the above error when I initiate the transfer from Windows Explorer, but apparently 'Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account.' so I will just have to do some typing,
    viz the error dialog says:
'An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Error 0x800705AA: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.'
I get this error pretty much 100% of the time from one particular PC when trying to copy a folder of 10 2GB files to a server with both mirror and parity storage spaces.
I recently purchased a Thecus W5000 running Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials. Absent any guidance either way I decided to set up a storage pool across the three 3TB WD Red drives that I have installed in it and to allocate 1.5TB of that space to a
mirror storage space and the remainder to a parity storage space. Having read some faily dire things about storage spaces, but wanting the resilience provided by those two types of storage space, I decided to run some benchmarking tests before finalising anything.
To that end I only went as far through the Essentials setup as creating a handful of user accounts before setting up the storage spaces and sharing both of them, with all authenticated users permitted full control. My benchmarking consists of a Take Command
batch file timing three large directory copies - one with 10 2GB files, one with 10240 10K files and another with a multi-level directory with a variety of files of differing sizes. The first two are completely artificial and the latter is a real world example
but all are roughly 20GB total size.
To test various aspects of this I copied the three structures to and then from a partition created on the internal disk (the W5000 has a 500GB SSHD) and to the two storage space partitions. I also created a version of the batch file for use internally which
did something similar between the internal disk and the two storage space partitions, and another as a control that tested the same process between the two Windows PCs. The internal test ran to successful completion, as did the PC to PC copy and the external
one from my Windows 8.1 64-bit system (i5 3570K, 16GB RAM, 1TB HD) but when I ran it from my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit gaming rig (i7 2600K, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD) I got a number of failures with this error from Take Command:
TCC: (Sys) C:\Program Files\bat\thecus_test_pass.btm [31] Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
(where line 31 of that batch file is a copy command from local D: to the parity space on the Thecus).
The error occurs only when copying large files (the 2GB ones already mentioned but some of those in the real world structure that are about 750MB in size) from the Win7 system to the Thecus and only when doing so to the storage space volumes - ie. copying to
the internal disk works fine, copying from all volumes works fine, copying internally within the Thecus works fine, copying between the Win8 and Win7 machines works fine and initiating the copy as a pull from the server between the same two disks also works
fine. One aspect of this that surprised me somewhat was just how quickly the copy fails when initiated from Windows Explorer - checking out the details section of the copy dialog I see roughly ten seconds of setting up and then within five seconds after the
first file transfer is shown as starting the error dialog pops up (as per the image no longer at the top of this post).
There are no entries in the event log on either machine related to this error and I've had the System Information window of the Sysinternals Process Explorer up and running on both machines whilst testing this, and it shows nothing surprising on either side.
I've also run with an xperf base active and I can't see anything pertinent in the output from either system.
Frankly, I am at a loss and have no idea what other troubleshooting steps I should try. The vast majority of the existing advice for this error message seems to relate to Windows 2003 and memory pools - which both the fact that this works from one PC but not
the other and the SysInfo/xperf output seems to suggest is not the issue. The other thing I've seen mentioned is IRPStackSize, but again if that was the problem I would expect the failure to occur where ever I initiated the large file transfer from.

Ff it works from the win 8 box, it must be in the win 7 box?
I'm going to answer this one first because much of the rest of this is not going to be pertinent to the problem at hand. I've been over and over this aspect whilst trying to think this issue through and you are right, except that it only happens when copying
files to the Thecus and only then when the target is a ReFS partition on a mirror or parity storage space. So the best I can come up with is that it is most likely an issue on the Win7 box that is triggered by something that is happening on the server side,
but even that is a bit of a stretch. This is why the lack of information from the error message bugs me so much - in order to debug a problem like this you need to know what resource has been exhausted and in which part of the software stack.
Now that may not be easy to do in a generic way, and since programmers are inherently lazy it is tempting just to return a simple error value and be done with it. However, I've been in the position of doing just that in a commercial product and ended up
having to go back and improve the error information when that particular message/code was tripped and I was expected to debug the problem! Obviously there is a significant difference between a Microsoft consumer product and a mainframe product that costs many
times as much and comes with a built in maintenance fee, but the underlying requirement is the same - somebody needs to be able to solve the problem using the information returned. In this case that simply isn't possible.
You spend your time testing file copies, where I devote most of my time to backup and restore
I don't really want to be testing file copies - the initial intention was to benchmark the different storage space and file system combinations that I was intending to use but the error whilst doing so has spiralled into a cycle of testing and tweaking that
really isn't achieving anything. My primary reason for having a NAS at all has always been backup. My current strategy for the two boxes participating in this testing involves having a local drive/partition to hold backups, running a daily incremental file
copy to that partition which is then immediately copied to a NAS and backing that up with a regular (needs to be at least once per month to be totally secure) full image copy of the local disks that is also copied to the NAS afterwards (hence my fascination
    with copying large files).
There is a weakness in that strategy because I've never been very good at performing that full image backup regularly enough, so one of the reasons for buying the W5000 was the possibility of making those backups automatic and driven from the server end.
However, that takes the local backup drives out of the equation and leaves me with the need to backup the NAS, which I don't do with my existing unit because there are (nearly) always copies held elsewhere.
The other reasons for going with the Thecus were a desire to backup the other machines in the household - I've always dreaded a hard drive failure on my wife's laptop but getting her to perform any kind of housekeeping is nigh on impossible and also to provide
a file server capability protected by a single set of userids (the existing NAS data is open to all household members). So my goal is backup and restore too ;)
I meant a different nic on the beast (win 7)
I should have realised that but obviously wasn't thinking straight. I don't have a spare gigabit NIC to hand (although perhaps even a megabit one might provide an interesting data point) although there is such a card in one of my other (less used) PCs that
I could cannibalise for testing purposes. Another project for the coming weekend methinks.
put some limits on it to keep the lawyers happy. 2gb ram, OS loaded on a drive, limit the # of Hard Drives
That statement got me thinking, because I've never been able to find a definition anywhere of what the restrictions are with WSS 2012 R2 Essential - if I bring up the software license terms on the box itself they are for 2012 Standard!?- and wonder whether
they'd stop me doing things like adding RAM or changing the processor.
Even my buddies at wegotserved do not seem to have done any hands on reviews and they get "everything."
The cynic in me wonders whether that is because Thecus know that they've just shovelled this onto a handful of existing boxes that barely meet the spec. and which simply aren't up to snuff as anything other than a box full of disks.  The Thecus boxes
look like good value because they include the server OS (the unit cost me roughly 50% more than I could buy Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials for) but if you can't realise that value then they are just an expensive NAS.
if perhaps the algorithms in the Seagate SSHD do not know ReFS?
I haven't put a ReFS partition on the SSHD, only on the three 3TB WD Reds.
I will ask my contacts at MS to take a look at this thread, but they stay so busy with v.next I don't know if they will spend many cycles on it
    Perhaps you could ask them if the next version of the OS could do a better job of identifying which resources have been exhausted, by what part of the stack and where in the maze of connectivity that makes up a modern computing environment?? {gd&r}
    Cheers, Steve

  • Hibernate - Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API (Tecra M4 )

I just thought that I would pass on my experience with this problem.
I recently upgraded the memory of my Tecra M4 to 2GB of RAM. Everything was fine except everyonce in a while it would not hibernate. It would suspend to RAM (standby) however. It seemed to happen after the antivirus software kicked in (which I had changed around the same time). I investigated that route but it also happened if I had a lot of programs running. So, a quick google search revealed why almost all laptops ship with only 512MB of RAM.
There is a problem with Windows releasing the memory in a way which allows it to be written to the hard drive, preventing hibernation and creating the very vague error message "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API".
The solution is to contact Microsoft by telephone and ask them for the hotfix from Knowledge Base article #909095. The hotfix is free although the MS website makes it look as though you will have to pay 200 for contacting MS support.
This seems to have solved my problem!
    Hurray!
Here is the Knowledge Base article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909095
Here is the Blog that I first found the solution on:
    http://www.ntwizards.net/2004/10/13/hibernate
Of course, the one problem with contacting MS support is that I have recieved LOTS of phone calls asking me what I thought of their support... it was pretty good so I don't really mind but I do find it funny that I keep getting called and asked the same questions!

    Hi Kelly
    Thanks for this useful information.
Its very nice that you have posted this tip. I think its very helpful for forum users which could have the same issues on the notebooks.

  • Error: insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service

    Hi,
Hope all are well. I am getting this error "insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" while trying to install Lookback Adapter on my Windows 7 Professional OS installed on my HP Laptop.
Well, there is more to this problem. Actually I have VMWare installed on my Laptop where everything was working fine. At one fresh boot, I found VMWare Host-Only adapters were missing. So I tried to enable them and could never do so. I tried to troubleshoot
a lot but couldn't get it working. Not sure why but I thought of uninstalling Lookback Adapter and reinstall and see if that works and there you go, I am getting "insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service". I am sure if
I can solve this one for Loopback Adapter, I can also make VMWare environment working as there definitely appears to be a relation between these two.
So by now, I have at least read 20 different articles and did a "Clean Boot" of OS and uninstalled all unnecessary applications from it. But I still can't install Loopback Adapter.
Can some Microsoft expert provide a solution? I can see many people facing this problem and many of them haven't found a solution. Note that I have admin rights on my OS.
Any quick help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    N Jo

Based on the information found on the internet and on the Microsoft website, there is nothing wrong with the OS.

  • Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API on Windows 2012 R2

    Dear sir/madam,
I got an error message in Windows Device Manager when plugging-in my scanner to Windows 2012 R2 (driver installed):
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.
     Could someone please help ?

    Hi Do Son,
The Code 10 error is mainly related to hardware and device driver issues or to compatibility issues between hardware drivers and additional software that is installed in Windows.
Therefore, we recommend that you troubleshoot these issues by focusing on device drivers, on device configuration issues, and on hardware compatibility issues.
Personal experience is sometimes the USB device connected to a hub and 3rd party antivirus filter drivers also can cause this error.

  • Insufficient system resources error

Quick question....I keep getting the following error after my LabVIEW
7.1 program has been running for a while:
"Error -1073807300 occurred at agn330xa Initialize With Options.vi
    Possible reasons(s):
Driver Status:  (Hex 0xBFFF003C)   Primary Error:  (Hex 0xBFFF003C)
    Insufficient system resources to perform
    necessary memory allocation."
It varies on which instrument's driver it occurs on, but it alway seems
to occur on the initialization VIs after my program
loops back through itself a few times.  This error causes me to close
out LabVIEW completely before my program will run again.
I am closing out the VISA sessions after each of my tests for all
    instruments used in that test.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks,
    Ryan

The upgrade didn't help.  Still get the error.
Since my last change, the error is consistantly occurring at the exact same place every time, on the same driver VI, and on the same iteration through my program.
My program basically loops through the bulk of the program 6 times, and it is now on the third time through that it gets stuck on this error.  Before I put in the VIs to close the VISA sessions, it was always getting stuck on the second loop through.  So putting the VISA closes in helped.  What else more can I do??
Is there a way to allocate more resources for my program, or some way to free up more memory to use for it?
Any other thoughts at all would be helpful.

  • While Browsing SSAS 2005 Cube Getting Error " The following system error occurred from a call to GetOverlappedResult for Physical file: Logical file: '' : Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service."

    Hi Guys,
When I try to Brows Cube (SSAS 2005), I get below error (Sometimes):
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services
Server: The operation has been cancelled.
The following system error occurred from a call to GetOverlappedResult for Physical file: '\\?\F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\XXX_2012.0.db\XXX DC.0.cub\FACT_XXX.0.det\PARTITION_2013Q31.0.prt\674.fact.data', Logical file: '' : Insufficient
system resources exist to complete the requested service. .
The following system error occurred from a call to GetOverlappedResult for Physical file: '\\?\F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\XXX_2012.0.db\XXX DC.0.cub\FACT_XXX.0.det\PARTITION_2013Q23.0.prt\385.fact.data', Logical file: '' : Insufficient
system resources exist to complete the requested service. .
    BUTTONS:
    OK
and I think due to above Error, Index on a Particular Attribute (EMP_ID) of a DIMENSION DIM_EMP is getting dropped from FEW of the Partitions (Folders) and started getting new error:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services
File system error: The following error occurred while opening the file '\\?\F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\XXX_2012.0.db\XXX DC.0.cub\FACT_XXX.0.det\PARTITION_2013Q31.0.prt\688.DIM_EMO.EMP_ID.fact.map'.
    BUTTONS:
    OK
I followed the above path and did not find file 688.DIM_EMO.EMP_ID.fact.map in folder PARTITION_2013Q31.0.prt. Once I rebuild the Index (ProcessIndex) for this partition, I am able to See file 688.DIM_EMO.EMP_ID.fact.map.
But again when next time I get error "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service", Then 688.DIM_EMO.EMP_ID.fact.map will be dropped and will not be available in folder PARTITION_2013Q31.0.prt.
Anyone had similar issue. Could you please share your experience and resolution if any.
Thanks Shiven:) If Answer is Helpful, Please Vote

    Hi Shiven,
In your scenario, the issue occur at sometimes, right? Base on my research, the issue can be caused by that calculation estimate exceeded available memory. Possibly due to possible number of dimension members and sizes of keys. And 32bit environment didn’t
allow for any expansion to the SSAS memory space.
To avoid this issue, please try to use userva to fine tune the 3GB setting down to 2900 since /3GB is the likely
cause (has been for most other customers who encountered the same problem before). The KB Articles below discuss that setting in detail.
How to use the /userva switch with the /3GB switch to tune the User-mode space to a value between 2 GB and 3 GB

  • Windows Modules Installer - Autostart Service Not Running

I'm receiving in my health reports for four separate WSE 2012R2 deployments the below error.  I've set the service to restart upon failure, but it seems this occurs upon every server reboot until I manually go in and start the service.  However,
from my understanding this service only runs when it is needed, which would leave me to a false negative in the BPA scan.
Just curious if anyone else is getting this.
    Autostart Services Not Running:
    Windows Modules Installer

    Hi MattSla,
On current situation, please type services.msc in RUN to open Services panel. Then navigate to Windows Modules
Installer service and open Properties. In General tab, please check Startup type of this service. Did set as Manual? Meanwhile, in Log On tab, please check which account this service used to log on as? Did log on as Local System account?
I check the Windows Modules Installer service in two Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials in my Lab environment.
It seems that this service was set as Manual. Then Generate a Health Report in Dashboard, and didn’t find any error which was related to ‘Autostart Service Not Running’.
If this issue still exists, please open Event Viewer and check if find some relevant events. Those may help
    us to go further analyze.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Hyper-V 'Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service' after turning hypervisorlaunchtype off and back to auto

    Hello everybody,
I've looked far and wide for anybody who has experienced the issue that I am currently dealing with in hopes of not duplicating an already answered question. I found nothing, but please forgive me if it slipped by me.
My issue began after installing VirtualBox to virtualize one of my favorite Linux OS's. Of course, I changed the BCD hypervisorlaunch type to 'off' so I could take advantage of HAV. Everything went great with Virtualbox, and my OS was running perfectly smoothly.
Today, I needed to boot into one of my Windows virtual machines in Hyper-V. I changed the hypervisorlaunchtype to 'auto' in BCD and rebooted my machine.
At this point, everything seemed normal. Windows took a few seconds longer to reboot and gave me a message about making configuration changes. After reboot, I logged into my PC and fired up Hyper-V. While one of my VM's was booting, I received multiple errors
about why my VM couldn't boot - every single aspect of my VM was getting an error. I am getting 'Failed to allocate resources' errors, 'Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service' errors, 'could not find virtual switch' errors.
It seems like they hypervisorlaunchtype did not actually change, but when I tried VirtualBox I received a 'VT-X is not available' error, so Hyper-V has taken ownership of that part of the chip. I rebooted another time after that, then a cold boot after that.
It seems like I'm missing something pretty obvious, but I can't find any information on what it might be. I've never had any issues like this before, and have been using Hyper-V on this laptop for around 9 months. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro x64, 8GB DDR3, Intel i7. Guest machines included Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The virtualbox networking stack is not compatible (I know that).
Beyond that, details could only explain what else VirtualBox is locking.

  • Insufficient system resources

    I have a LenovoEMC px4-400r firmware: 4.1.108.32627 running in a domain environment.
Randomly I'm getting:    Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service
on clients trying to connect to shares on the NAS.
After rebooting the NAS everyone is able to access the shares fine until it happens again.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hello robinp1
Could I have you create a local user(s) via the px4-400r's web interface.  Then try accessing the shares from the same workstations using the local NAS user(s).  This should allow you to test if the issue is being affected by the domain controller(s) or not.
If the error persists I recommend that you contact support to start a support incident and diagnose the issue further.
