Windows Movie Player

Hi
Nice new look!
Anyway, I have been recieving a load of WMV and I have WMP 9 installed (which I believe is the latest version) However, when I play the movies it states that it doesn't recognise the format. This happens on all movies (I assume regardless of codec, etc.) Anyway I try them in VLC and I get residue image as it moves and the picture breaks up.
Can anyone help with either issue so I can get them playing properly?
Thanks in advance
Rob

I assume you mean these instruction:
At first, if you've installed the VMP before, please move following files to the trash :
Windows Media Player.app
Windows Media Sample.wmv
WMP EULA
Windows Media Player Prefs /User/Library/Pref
Windows Media Favorites /User/Library/pref
com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist /User/Library/Pref
WindowsMediaPlayer.crash.log /User/Library/Logs/CrashReporter
Windows Media Plugin /Lib/Int Plug-ins
DRM Plugin.bundle /Lib/Int Plug-ins
Then, repair Permissions by Disk Utility.
Go to Microsoft MacTopia and download the .bin or .hqx file.
The .bin and .hqx file formats — what's the difference?
A .bin file is typically smaller than an .hqx file, but is less compatible with earlier Macintosh systems, such as Mac OS 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5.
An .hqx file is typically larger, but is more compatible with earlier systems.
( From Mactopia Page )
The file you've downloaded must be .bin or .hqx format. If it has .sitx extension and you cannot expand, change its extesion to .bin (or .hqx) what you've downloaded.
A file format cannot be changed by changing its extension but here we knew that it must be .bin or .hqx.
Ctrl+click or right click on that file and select Stuffit Expander from "Open With..." menu.
If you still have problem to expand, first launch Stuffit Expander manually and then drag the file on its window. This should work if it's not corrupted.
Run Windows Media Installer.
After installation completed, repair permissions.
Log out/Log in and EMPTY the trash.
Launch VMP and use only Default Skin.
Tried taht and same-o, same-o. Any other clues, I'm getting tired I don't know about the app.
Thanks

Spend some money for one of the upgrades to export to WMP formats.

  • I cant put .xesc in decoder (microsoft Expression Encoder) or windows movie player

tell me how we can decode an .xesc after renaming it cause if I double click it it plays but when I drag into wmm it says it not compatable please send a solution back please

I've had pretty good luck with Flip4Mac. Here's a blurb about what it will translate (thru Quicktime):
Advanced Systems Format (ASF), Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) and Audio Video Interleaved (AVI). The plug-in can also handle Windows Media Video (WMV) containers, which have the same roots as ASF. The Microsoft's audio container, Windows Media Audio (WMA) is also supported by this plug-in.
One quick question....you downloaded it, but did you install it? Sorry if that's a dumb question for you, but, for some, it's a reasonable concern.
All that being said, if you're asf isn't playing, possibly it doesn't conform to a standard compatible with F4M. Occasionally I will run across a file that says it's a wmv, but hiding underneath is an unsupported codec, which renders it unplayable on a Mac with F4M, or anything else.
Sometimes VLC will play content that nothing else will.

  • How do I move my files from Windows Media Player to my ipod?

Please help! I cannot figure out how to move the songs in Media Player over to my ipod.

Hello 03bprice!  Follow the instructions below:
Add files already stored on your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12485 and http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12493
    Do either of the following:
Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window. If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
By default, adding items to your iTunes library places a pointer to each file in the iTunes folder; the original file remains in the current location. For information about copying files to the iTunes folder instead of creating pointers to them, see Change where your iTunes files are stored. If the file is an unprotected WMA file and you have Windows Media Player Series 9 or later installed, iTunes makes a copy of the file and adds it to your iTunes library. The original WMA file remains unchanged. You can’t add protected WMA files or protected WMV files to iTunes.

  • How do I export FCP movie to a WMV format (Windows Media Player friendly)?

I am puzzled. How can I export FCP movie to a WMV format or Windows Media Player friendly?
    Thanks in advance.

You need a third party app to do this... AVI is the only format that you can export from FCP that's windows media friendly... WMF's can be exported with flip4mac... http://www.flip4mac.com Probably the best of the apps...

  • Screensaver ignores settings in Windows Media Player when watching a movie...

    Hello,
Does anyone know how to resolve the problem with screensaver kicking in while watching a movie using Windows Media Player (WMP) even though I have unchecked  the option to "Allow screen saver during playback" option in WMP?
I have found that if I start Windows Media Center (WMC) first and watch TV for example or even listen to Music in WMC  and then later quit out and then load WMP to watch an avi file, after the specified time the screen saver starts up and the movie is no longer visible until i move the mouse to stop the screensaver.  I know if I reboot WMP will work fine and no Screen saver will startup, that is not until i start WMC again and then go back into WMP...

  • Windows Movie Maker won't play on DVD player

    I have the OS7 now
The instruction say that a burned MASTER disc will play on DVD players and most computers???
I have used Mp4 and WMV formats with Windows Movie Maker, but none will play on DVD players but play well on computers???
I had formally use the Windows DVD Maker and the final file was UBF which seemed to work on all players and computers. My DVD Maker will not allow completion of Movie, it  notes, " I need the proper codes to make it work"??
I have looked on the Microsoft site for these support codes but cannot find them??? Windows Movie worked well on my Vista OS. What has MS done to screw up this software???

You need to read the owner's manual for your DVD player to find out exactly what video formats it will play.  Then you must ensure you record your video to DVD in a format that is recognized by your DVD player.  The Windows 7 Windows Movie Maker
may have a different default video format output that what you were using in Vista.  You have the option to specify the format of the video you record to DVD.

  • Have sansa mp3, Windows media player on old pc now want to move music(mp3) to ipod touch and Mac itunes can't find a way to do this

I have a Sansa mp3 which I used Windows media player to download music to.  Family made the move to Apple.  Now need to move mp3 music to itunes on Mac.  Can not find way to do this.  MP3 device does not show up when connected to Mac by USB. Please help!

In the iTunes folder there should be a folder saying "Import to iTunes". It is either in Music/Itunes or Music/Itunes/Media. Put the music you want on your iPod in this folder, start iTunes, and sync.

  • Download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod

download windows media player movies to itunes to ipod?  downloaded music ok

I saw that post... but it doesn't match the screen in Windows Media Player 0. On the Sync tab there is a Start Sync button a Edit Playlist button and Set up Sync button. The 'Set up Sync' button is always disabled.
I can't figure out how to get the playlists downloaded to the Zen Touch. Windows Media Player 0 would be the way to go if I could get the playlists to download.
I have played around over and over with the screens etc... I just can't figure out how to make them download with the Zen Touch anyway... 40 gig, for what it's worth.
If someone has been able to do this with a Zen Touch, I would love to know how to do it.

  • Is there a way to move files from Windows Media player to Itunes?

I have a lot of files in windows media player from Walmart.com. Is there any way to move these into my itunes library to sync onto the Nano?

Do you know what format the video is in and if its protected? most likely you will need to convert it, there quite a few converters out there. (i can't remember any)

  • How can i play downloaded movies in windows media player

  • .MOV exported to .AVI with QTpro fails to play in Windows Media Player

I have a .MOV file that I converted with 7.1.6 of QTpro to a .AVI ( DV/DVCPRO - NTSC / Best / 4:3 ) ( uncompressed 48kHz / 16bit / 2 channel ). The converted .AVI file will not play in Windows Media Player or load in Premiere. The converted .AVI will play in QT. I have previously converted .DV files to .AVI without any problems. If I load the converted .AVI with VirtualDub it says there is a missing "index" and precedes to read the entire .AVI file to "re-create" the "index".
Can anybody offer any clues as to what is going wrong?

Are you referring to a Lynda.com Compressor tutorial or one of their many PPT tutorials.
I agree that 10 Mbs is a nice general quality level – depending on your footage, of course – the content, the lighting, etc. WMV is probably the safest – although MP4 should be good as well,
Hard to be more specific except to say, Test. A preset that works well for one movie may look not-so-great applied to another.
Take a short, representative section and encode. Project the output file and see what you think.
    Good luck.

  • How to move albums that were saved using windows media player

I have a number of albums that are saved on my computer using windows media player. These were saved before I got itunes. I tried moving some of the albums into itunes but they don't show in tunes. Is there a way to do this rather than read all of the cd's into itunes.
    Thank you

    Sure thing.
In iTunes, go to File -> Add Folder to Library or Add File to Library. Select the folder which contains your music, or select individual tracks.
If in your iTunes settings you have iTunes copy music to it's folder and manage it for you, will then make a copy of the music, and put it into the iTunes location for music. It will even convert WMA files for you, into whatever file format you have under Import Settings in your iTunes preferences.
If in your preferences, itunes does NOT make a copy of your media, then it will simply reference the location it is in currently. If this is the case, then do not move the location of the songs from WMP. However, by default iTunes does make a copy into it's own directory, and if this is the case, you can actually delete the older files, as now you have a copy of these files in your iTunes directory.
    Does this make sense?
