Windows 'My Computer' does not recognize my iPhone?

When I connect my iPhone 3GS to me Dell Windows 7 laptop 'My Computer' does not recognise the phone at all whereas iTunes does. The system just opens an error window saying "Device Driver software was not successfully installed. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? Or of any other way to get my pictures off of my phone?
Also, when my partners 3GS is plugged in, he just recieves an error message saying USB Device could not be recognized, neither iTunes nor windows recognizes it.

Uninstalling iTunes will not cause you to lose any music.

My new Dell Computer with Windows 8.1 does not recognize my iPhone 5 when connected via USB.  I have reinstalled iTunes to no avail.

Hey, I may have to if I can't get this one to work!!
I have tried a different USB to no avail.  Both cables work on my old Dell so I don't believe they are the issue.
I uninstalled iTunes as directed by Apple Support and reinstalled.  Apparently, Apple Mobile Device Support is not loading with it because it does not show up in programs.

    Hi kathyt8952 ,
Would you please share us more details of the issue ?
Have you checked the driver issue from the device manager ?Have you tried to connect the device from another USB port to have a check ?
We can take the following steps to have a check .
1.Open "run" from the start menu, and run "services.msc".
    2.Search "Apple Mobile Device".
3.On "status" column right click and then click on "Properties"
4.In the "general" tab find the "startup type" drop-down arrow menu and make sure "automatic" is selected.
5.Also in the general tab check the "service status". If it does not say "started" then click the start button.
6.At the bottom of the properties window click "apply".

If your iPhone 4 was running iOS 5, you can't install iOS 5 on an iPhone 3G which means you can't restore the 3G from the backup of the iPhone 4 running iOS 5.

  • My computer does not recognize my iphone

I am frustrated!  My computer (which I just restored from an older time machine version and got mountain lion on, does not recognize my iphone now.  I'm not sure what is going on, but I need to figure it out because I have a new iphone 5 that I am ready to plug in, but want to make sure the latest version of my phone is on my computer.

    Mac, Windows, Linux?
If you have Windows, make sure you have run Windows Update, reboot, or turn off your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that is blocking the device.  The last one is what was stopping my iPod from talking to iTunes.

  • HT201269 My computer does not recognize my iphone 5, or my two ipods.  Is there any easy fix?

Suddenly, my New Dell PC desktop does not recognize my iphone 5 or either of my ipods.  I have downloaded the most recent itunes software.  My iphone and ipod software is all up to date.  I suspect the PC needs a setting adjustment. My device manager indicates that all of my usb ports are functional.  Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

I found a webpage where a user reported the same issue as me.
He said he determined that "foreign pictures" -- meaning any pictures not taken using the iPhone's camera -- were the cause.  Once he deleted the "foreign pictures" -- such as pictures obtained from receiving texts from others which included pictures that he saved onto the iPhone, then iTunes worked.
In my case, the fix was to upgrade the iPhone's OS from 5.1.1 to the latest version.
    Now, both issues are solved:
Windows recognizes the iPhone as a storage device.
iTunes can see pictures that I've saved on the iPhone.

  • My Windows computer does not recognize my iPhone.

Hello. When I plug my iPhone into my laptop (Windows Vista) the iPhone does not appear in "My Computer." It does sync with iTunes. I searched around and apparently the fix is to delete and reinstall iTunes. Will I lose all of my music when I delete iTunes? What about videos, popcasts, etc?
    Thanks.

  • Windows 7 computer does not recognize SX50HS when connected by cable

My computers, both of which run Windows 7, do not recognize the Powershot SX50HS when it is connected via the Canon cable. In other words, even after the cable is connected to the USB port and the camera's power is turned on, the camera does not show up as a device when you go to "Computer" and look at the list of drives, etc. How can I fix this? Thanks.

If you don't know run the software disk that came with the SX50. It has the correct files that your computer needs in order to communicate with your camera.

  • Must have OS 10.6.5 to be compatible to the iphone 5 but the computer does not recognize the device

I downloaded OS X 10.6.5 in order to sync my new iphone 5 to my mac.  After doing so the computer does not recognize the iphone.  I switched the backup from iCloud to sync to the computer when plugged in but nothing happens.

If the Software Update application is not in your Applications folder, then apparently you've inadvertently done away with it. Downloading and installing the standalone Combo Update, as the previous poster has suggested, may install a new copy of it. If it doesn't, you can reinstall it from your original OS installer DVD using Pacifist:
